Hands down best smash burger and slaw dog in Grady county. Don't settle for the imitators.

I've been craving a delicious coney, so on my trip up to OKC, I stopped by J & W. I loved bellying up to the counter of this classic diner, the sign says its been here since 1954! It doesn't appear that very much has even changed here since 1954, including the prices, which is a-OK by me. The restaurant is simply a long counter with comfy little stools to sit on. They seem to do a great business. The server and line cook were a great team and people were in and out really fast. It was 9:40 AM when I stopped in, everyone at the counter was eating breakfast. I sat at the counter directly across the grill to watch the action, their grill cook was amazingly fast and efficient, I loved seeing fresh cracked eggs versus that other carton egg junk that lots of restaurants have started to use. I ordered two coneys topped with cheese and onions. She also offered to top it with slaw, but I held off on that. I also had an order of fries. The portion sizes were bigger than I expected, lots of coney places tend to use really small dogs, this was a regular size hotdog. The bun was soft and slightly toasted, the dog itself was a little bland, I like a nice card casing and more seasoning. Unfortunately, I didn't really love the coney sauce either. I like it a little bit spicier/saltier, but thankfully Tabasco was on the counter and it helped . There's cheddar and fresh diced onions over it, and they looked terrific. These are very filling, I ordered two, but really only needed one. The side of fries came in a large basket. They were outstanding fries, they appear to be hand cut, and they were fresh and hot out of the fryer when they were served to me. I ate the coneys over the fries and lots of Coney sauce and cheese fell on the fries, so I had impromptu chili cheese fries by the time the coneys were eaten! I bet I only ate 1/4 of the fries, the portion was enormous. I drank a soda and the server seriously refilled it every time I took a sip, she was super efficient! They sell milkshakes that I bet are outstanding. The real star was something I *didn't* order, but I watched a bunch of them being cooked in front of me: the onion burger! I'm new to OK so this phenomenon is new to me. I'd assumed people were exaggerating the amount of onions that go into the burger. If anything, they've understated the amount. They looked amazing! Greasy, soggy, nasty slop that makes me sick every time Im dragged here by a friend or coworker. I know a lot of people in chickasha love it, but a lot of people in chickasha I think would drink burger and fryer grease straight every meal if someone offered it. Actually has potential to be a decent burger. If it wasn't so greasy your bun disintegrated. I'm starting to think there isn't a single decent place to eat in this town. read more

Well, TBH I am not impartial as I worked here in high school. Onions, thinly sliced the night before, are smashed into fresh ground beef (also done in the back with a meat grinder older than my dad) right on the grill positioned behind a counter that seats 16 (?). Endless refills, you have to practically guard your cup if you don't want more soda/tea/coffee. I used to slice my weight in potatoes every night I worked to have fresh fries the next day. Prices that have barely changed! A large everything burger fried (EBF) for less than $5! And don't forget, breakfast runs from 6am-10:30! read more

We went into J&W Grill because it was recommended by a person we know. We are so glad we did! It's just down the Road from the Grady County courthouse and so if you have legal business to do in Grady County this is a great place to go afterwards! Even if you don't have business at the courthouse this is still a great place at least for breakfast! Glen had a ham and egg breakfast that was very generous and I had the biscuits topped with eggs topped with sausage topped with hash browns all of it topped in gravy with tomatoes on top and then they brought me toast! We are definitely coming back to try their lunch but they do close at 2 in the afternoon so you need to get there somewhat early but it's well worth it! read more

Basic, no frills burgers. That's what you come for. Nothing else. I like French fries crispy and salty, so don't drop by if you don't like hand cut fries that are on the old fashioned "floppy" side. Make sure to get the grilled onions with your burger. That is the only way to fly if you're going to pop in for a bite here. Really easy to find off one of the two or three "main drags" here in Chickasha. (You cannot miss it.) read more

This is an American original. It has been in the same location and looked the same for at least 40 years. They make onion burgers -- a small patty of burger meat fried with a handful of onions. Come in during lunch for a real show. Don't worry if there are no seats because they move a lot of burgers. When they ask you ask for a "cheese burger fried and a basket." Then sit back and watch the action. They take the orders like the old SNL skit, except instead of "chee burger, chee burger" they use a different code. See if you can figure it out. It looks and sounds like complete chaos, but everything is in perfect order. Burgers come off the grill in the same order as they went into the cook's head. Half the time, he can tell you who ordered it. These are not the greatest hamburgers in the world, but they are the greatest onion burgers in the world. Go for the experience. So if your looking for a different experience this would be it. So I drive up to the restaurant, i saw the place thinking it's so tiny. We parked along the street, just walked over. You walk in, the place blew my mind! Seriously reminded me of the old dive restaurants from when I was little that were scattered along old state highways. Has just bar style seating around the cooking/service counter. About 12 or 15 stools, I didn't stop and count them. That's it. Funny, we walked in, people just up and rotated to make room for me and my hubby. Place is very much causal, staff just wearing their everyday comfy clothes, no uniforms. Very friendly. Open comfy place. Smiles all around. The staff was chatting it up with customers all round, figured the place has many regulars. We were welcomed and asked right away what we would like to drink. The waitress acted like she was my best friend. Loved all their personalities. You seriously can watch them make your food, so of course it's very fresh. You get instant serive on anything you need since the staff just walks back and forth along the counter. Burger was very juicy, lots of veggies, served on its own little plate. Freshly prepared food + friendly staff - seasoning - sufficiently drained fries = charming greasy spoon. This place is the Cheers of Chickasha. Everybody knows your name, unless you don't live in Chickasha, then they just stare at you. Very fresh food, all cooked right in front of you on the griddle in all it's small town diner glory. I had the fried steak sandwich, served piping hot. Not a lot of seasoning, but the freshness of the ingredients carried the meal much farther than typical fast food swill. They will give you an entire fryer basket worth of fries for a SINGLE order, again, hand cut and sat down in front of you seconds out of the fryer. The problem this presents is 3 fold though: 1. You want to eat the fresh fries, but when you try, you cauterize the inside of your mouth because they JUST CAME OUT OF THE FRYER. 2. No time for the excess grease to drop back off into the deep fryer, so instead they drip all over the basket/hands of the person eating them. 3. Not fried properly as in twice, so many of the fries end up being limp and lacking crispy-ness. I saw several un-kosher practices that wouldn't cut the mustard if an inspector came through, but nothing that would scare me from coming back. It is super cheap, super fresh, could use some polishing & refining, but not much gets polished in Chickasha, OK, and the most refined thing in town is USAO's art gallery. Healthy? Hell no. Tasty? Yeah. Something I'd drive from OKC all over again to indulge in? Not a chance. read more

Even though seating is limited, this is the best fried onion burger around! A small basket of fries is more then enough to feed 2 people and the service is the best in town. This place was all you are looking for in a small town diner. The greasy spoon of you will complete with counter only seating of maybe 15 total. The servers behind the counter were very nice. The place was packed with locals and the servers knew them by name. Coming from the big city I think that's pretty old school cool. The food was delicious. Homemade everything. We came for breakfast and got pancakes, which were homemade with eggs and bacon, both perfectly cooked. We also got some biscuit and gravy situation that had cheese, sausage and eggs on it. That was out of the world. We couldn't finish it all but it was worth it. There could be more room for customers if they would move the cash register off of the counter. Super friendly environment. Great customer service skills. No matter how busy they were they still check up on you and refilled your drink without you asking them. They remember what we were drinking and our names. Definitely a great restaurant to visit if you're from out of town. All the food was super fresh and well made. It is a wonder to watch the employees in action around lunch time. We stopped there on a whim when the burger place at Meers had a line 40 deep out the door. Not terribly hungry after a quick hike in the Wichitas, we waited to eat until we reached Chickasha. Boy am I glad. Fries were fresh and hot and served immediately while we waited on our burgers. The burgers showed up maybe 3 minutes later. Best onion burger I've ever had. Clientele is mostly local and friendly, it's got all the small town charm you could ask for. Simple diner with limited seating, but the onion burger is worth waiting for, not that you'll have to wait long. I have heard about this place for 30 years but never visited until today. I'm kicking myself for not going sooner. It totally lived up to the hype, the burgers were amazing and the service was wonderful. I enjoy an onion burger often and today's was as good as any I have ever had. Great quality, not too greasy, and reasonably priced. I can't say enough good things about the service. They treated us like we were family. The place was packed and seating is limited but we were seated within 5 minutes. We cannot wait to go back soon. read more
