I brought my car to the shop for rust repair, bumper alignment, and a repaint. On my first visit I got a price quote when the owner looked at my car. When I brought it back the next week to start work, I also brought them a spoiler, which they handled. However, the rust repair was not done. All they did was paint over the patch job that I did myself at home. I paid them to cut out my patch job and weld in new metal. But they didn't do that. No one responds to my emails. I called and I talked to the owner on the phone about it. He wrote down my phone number, said he'd talk to "the body shop guys" and call me back. That never happened either. I paid for a budget paint job. I got a budget paint job, but I also paid for body work that they didn't do. I got ripped off. If they wanted more money to do the whole job I hired them for, then first of all - communicate with me and tell me what's going on. Second, a higher bill would be crap because I shopped around and I have a written estimate for another shop for the same work. I mistakenly went with Colunga because the location was closer. Let's be honest a visit to a body shop is always depressing. First you recognize your car looks like it had an accident, which it did. Second, you know its going to cost and arm and a leg to look better. You know its going to be expensive and the outcome is uncertain. The only thing for certain is you want it to be over. So you get to Colunga's which you found on Yelp, and you see all these very cool cars in front, customized and painted like works of art. That makes you feel better because you think, wow these might actually be craftsman here. They are friendly, they look at everything and they give you an estimate. Of course it looks like a lot for a little bodywork, but that's how it goes. I did find they were more reasonable than any of the three other places I went to. Best is to drop off the car for a few days, don't try and rush them, you're only hurting yourself if you do. Wait as many days as they ask and show up and the car looks great, everything looks better than you hoped. I'm dropping off my second vehicle here because after their first job, there's no other place I'd take a car for repairs. I'm even having them do some other minor repairs just to make the car look "newer". read more

Our last experience with colungas was horrible. Looked like a new boot worked on our car. Bad color matching, over spray in and out o the car, paint in the key hole and on and on. The fact that they told us car was ready for us makes it worse. I would NOT recommend them to anyone. My wife picked up car and even to her the car didn't look right.I never complained because I could not afford to leave car there to be done right and pay for a rental. I am giving J. Colunga's 4 stars mainly because of the price. I was charged $600 for work on the front end of my car, compared to quotes of over $1000 elsewhere. I also got them to replace an exterior door handle for $30+the cost of the part. I have a 13 year old car with 140,000 miles, and this is a very good option for me since I'm on a budget. The work was definitely not flawless. The PAINT looks good, but the body pieces and headlights are not quite as snug as they're supposed to be. It looks decent, but if you have a new-ish car and want it to keep looking perfect, they may not be the best option. When they fixed that door handle, they didn't connect the cords for the electric windows and locks properly, and they came loose after 3 days and didn't work. So I called them, took it back, and they fixed it promptly for free. I think my car was ready by the time they promised (or a day later?) both times. They are also very friendly and honest. If you want to save 30-50% and aren't too picky, this is a good option. read more

I got into an accident at the end of March. It took over a month to figure out liability so I was already frustrated with not having my car. I called around and got estimates based on photos (since I couldn't drive my car due to front end damage). I picked J's because they are a mile away from my apartment, they had cheapest quote, and the quickest turn around time. I was quoted a week to get my car fixed. I was not told that the are CASH ONLY (they're right across from IBC bank for debit card withdrawals) until after they had arranged to pick up my car via tow truck. Fast forward to a week after I had given them a deposit (the day my car was suppose to be ready-a Tuesday) and I was told it wasn't ready and would not be ready until the end of the week but most likely the beginning of the following. I talked to one of the men and they promised they would have it ready for me to pick up Monday. I called Monday and they said I could pick it up at 3 on Tuesday just in time for my doctor's appointment (which they were aware of). I got called at 2 saying that my car would not be ready until the following day- despite them promising me just a few hours prior that it would be ready. It was FINALLY ready on Wednesday (twice as much time as they had promised). When I picked it up, my window would not roll up and my door would not open from the inside (my door was not effected by the accident and was not repaired). My lights are also not flesh with the body of the car and I had to get them to fix the passenger side (it was clicking every time I opened the door). They also took my antenna and lost it (as of right now they are suppose to be ordering me a new one) and for some reason they got into my trunk. I know because they left cigarettes in there (no one I know smokes). They also messed up my steering. IN SUMMARY, they are really nice people, extremely polite but will NOT call you back when they say they will (I had to call them- and I saw one guy take a call and take someone's number without writing it down- how is he suppose to call them back?). Also, the work is not the best. The pieces are good but they are not put together right. Make sure you allot twice as much time as they say and make sure you inspect it when you pick it up. read more

Got my 10 year Acura painted there about 2 months ago.... He did an excellent job on it. I had my color change from a dark blue metallic to a pearl white. I had lots of sun damage to the roof and trunk and didn't want to buy another car plus my car is in very good shape under the hood. He charged $1300 including door jams the pearl white is a premium color so it was a little extra, it would have been $900 had I chose to keep the same color but I think I'm done with dark colors in Texas. Plus changing the color sort of made me feel like it was a new car. The turn around time was 4 days and thousands less than some of the other places I went to quoting $2500 to $ 5000 and 4 to 8 weeks turn around time. I'd rather spend kind of money painting my house ....This place you can also make payments ..the only thing is he's cash only no debit or credit cards which is a real inconvenience going to the bank to withdraw large sums of money...otherwise very pleased with his work. He does a lot of tricked out and candy paint jobs ..he also does some interior work, very nice guy with old an school mentality. FYI he also puts 3 layers of top coat instead of the standard 2 layers ...due to the extreme heat during the summer months which starts in late March for us :( Check him out I highly recommend read more

I got into a fender bender and needed my car fixed pretty quick. After getting quotes at other shops around town and getting turn-around time, a friend recommended I visit the shop. I got my car back in the time he said as well as him fixing a few other things for the same price he had quoted. This place really sucks, they didn't put my doors on right one was higher than the other and they used all the same parts they also left the side panels loose. My husband had to fix them because I didn't want to take my car back to them because they left the inside of my car really dirty when they worked on it. They never call back like prommised, the only person you can deal with is Cynthia because johnny the owner doesn't know anything you ask him. For him being the owner he's clueless about what's going on. I would not recommend this place to anyone they take no pride in their work at all. I was very dissatisfied with their work. read more

J. Colung'as Body and Paint did excellent work in repairing extensive front end damage to my 2008 Hyundai for about half the cost that I was quoted at another auto body shop. The structural repairs and high quality paint restoration were done in the five days estimated. As long as you are prepared to pay cash (bank cashier's check or money order) with a down payment in advance, they provide good reliable results at a very reasonable price. read more
