I live about 2 miles from Sam's Auto Care for many years but all the while paying for overpriced maintenance services at a dealership and other area "brand name" shops. I have an upscale low mileage used car of a reliable automaker that's 12 years old. When 2 of the other local auto repair shops closed their South Lamar locations I decided to check out Sam's. What a rare fortunate find. Sam (yes there's a real Sam) directs the business operations and he's the kind of professional who's ALWAYS genuinely smiling while engaged with his clients. He gets real pleasure from helping customers with honest explanations that make it easy to understand what's involved in the repair or service. Sam spent lots of time showing me the correct minor parts I could buy myself to save money and then he installed them. I've used Sam's Auto Care to repair several minor episodes of body damage to my car caused mostly by my careless backing out of my long tree-lined driveway or maneuvering into ridiculously skinny commercial parking lot spaces. Sam ALWAYS charges unbelievably affordable prices that make me want to add on a gratuity which he does NOT allow any customer to pay. And the speed of the repairs is remarkable given most shops take days or waiting for very minimal repairs. I went to my dealership for the maintenance services they recommend to keep the car in good condition. The most recent time I went primarily for an oil change (before I met Sam) and was told my car needed almost $1,000 of other maintenance services. I declined them then took the list of the services recommended to Sam to confirm if they were needed. He told me most were and those will now be done at Sam's in the following week. My certain expectation is the total cost to do those at Sam's Auto Care will cost at least half (or more) less than the prices quoted by my dealership. My good friend who lives in my same area recently got scammed by another "brand name" auto care business because he doesn't know how to tell what the necessary services are that he does NOT need. That's a common upsell technique used by many auto care services shops as most people aren't knowledgeable of what those maintenance services actually are. So the customer says "okay" then pay a completely inflated invoice for services the car actually didn't need. I used to be one of those people until the miracle of finding Sam's Auto Care located within walking distance from my house!!! You'd be wise to check out Sam's for yourself then save big bucks for important things like gas and groceries! read more

My F150's low coolant warning light popped on after a trip to San Antonio. I checked the coolant level and it was really low. I added about 1.5 gallons to the correct level and brought it in to Sam's to check for a leak. Sam's called me next day to say that the test showed no leaks... no issues with radiator. The big surprise was they charged me nothing! I continue to check the levels after a few weeks and there is no apparent loss of coolant. What probably happened is nobody (not me or the guys doing my annual oil change) had ever checked the level and just over time the fluid has been burning off little by little.... its an old truck! The point is Sam's is honest and incredibly didn't charge for their time to do the test. Thumbs up for Sam's. read more

Yet again, Anmar and his crew truly made a difference. The other week, my ATT light came on, and ll the other flashing icons on the dashboard when something goes awry. So I called Anmar, and visited the shop on Wednesday and was informed that my AT was out of fluid. Not a good thing, BUT, I had driven it gingerly from home to the shop so when he told me this, I was frankly seriously bothered. However, they flushed the transmission, put in new fluid, tested it, and told me that there were two pressure lines that looked dodgy, so they went ahead and ordered them. On the Friday, I returned, they installed the new lines, topped off the AT becuase of the switching out the lines, tested the car, and thankfully, the little blue beast was okay...PHEW. The level of service, and kindness, honesty from Anmar and the crew is a rarity these days. I have a 2011 Subaru Forester, and they know Subarus, and I will be going to see Anmar and Co as long as i have this car becuase they truly car about their customer.. New to Austin and my check engine light came on Sunday night. I started Monday morning at Auto Tek- they told me they were booked out two weeks even for a diagnostic. They referred me to their "overflow" shop Lopez Auto Repair but I opted against. Next I went to Dave's Ultimate Automotive- they told me I could drop my car off Wednesday afternoon and should expect $160 for diagnostic. Finally, I called Sam's. I was told I could drop the car off later Monday morning and they'd have a diagnosis by mid day. Sure enough at about 2:00, I got a call that I needed new spark plugs/ignition coils. The car was ready to be picked up by 5:30 before they closed- amazing!! The repair for my 2017 Ford Edge came out to $760. When I called Dave's and asked for a quote for the same repair, they came back with $842 PLUS the $160 diagnostic. Well done, Sam's. I now have my new auto shop established! ***UPDATE 2 WEEKS LATER*** As it turns out, my vehicle unfortunately had deeper issues than Anmar had originally anticipated. 2 days after the first repair, the engine light came back on. Hoping for the best, Anmar (at no cost) replaced the spark plugs saying they could be defective. Unfortunately the check engine light then came back a week later meaning the plugs were fine and there was a deeper issue. Knowing about notorious issues with Ford EcoBoost engines (side note- NEVER BUY A FORD), Anmar even printed the bulletin from the Ford website for us. We took the car to the Ford dealership and they confirmed the car needed a completely new engine- estimated repairs of $9K. We let Anmar know of this diagnosis (which came at a $120 fee) and he told us if we brought the vehicle back to him he would replace with the original spark plugs which he had saved, and give us a FULL REFUND. Sure enough, an hour later the car was ready with a check for $760. Moral of the story, I will never take my car anywhere but Sam's as long as I live in Austin, and you should do the same. Absolutely love this place. I'm super skeptical about mechanics in general, like most people, because it would be easy to take advantage of people who don't know much about cars, but Sam's Auto Care is fair with pricing and gets things done in a timely manner. And most importantly, they know what they're doing! I've been here a few times and they've always taken good care of me. The latest problem was that my engine was misfiring. They did not charge me for a diagnostic! Most places definitely would have. They were also able to fix my 6 spark plugs and a coil in one afternoon. All around, another great experience! Both Sam and his son, Omar, seem to be a very well oiled machine(no pun intended). I will continue to come here and will tell anyone I know with a car issue to do the same. read more

I came here because the side of my rear bumper was coming off. The person I spoke to here was very helpful and took a look. He said he could try to repair, but it was possible that the plastic bracket might break and I may need to get a replacement part.
