This J Crew is inside the Shops at 900 North Michigan on the second floor to the left. This is a typical J Crew not that different from any other I've been to. We arrived when it first opened so everything as far as the displays and racks were all neatly organized and such. This particular J Crew seems a lot smaller than the ones I'm used to seeing in some of the malls. My favorite item are the khaki pants. I've bought many a pair of pants from J Crew because their quality is really good and they last for years because the material is durable. Some stuff was on sale this past Labor Day weekend at 40% off.

Keep in mind: I used J. Crew to dress my wedding party. This review pertains to my experiences with the J Crew "weddings" shtuff, and nothing else. If you're thinking about using J Crew for your wedding, read on. Please! Alright, so let me start off by saying that the dresses my girls bought were kickass. They looked great. We picked out the Cotton Cady fabric in the Spiced Wine color. And it was awesome. Now that that's been said, the fact that the dresses were awesome is the ONLY even remotely decent part of this J.Crew. (I realize the actual product goes a long way, here - but I still feel like future customers should be warned.) If you want customer service, do not use this J.Crew. If you think you're going to be treated any differently than anyone walking in off the street just because you "Scheduled an appointment 6 months in advance," or "Talked to someone about the appointment up to ten times," or "Are getting married," then you are wrong. I had five ABYSMAL experiences with the "Wedding Specialists" here. We were crammed into one dressing room the first time (not one whole area. one STALL of a main dressing area.) I was trying on my wedding dresses in the middle of a crowd, basically. The girl who was helping us gave us a slew of dresses to try on. My girls all picked the ones they like. Our girl then told us "Ohhh, Im sorry you like that one. We actually don't carry it anymore." to TWO of my bridesmaids! Why on earth would you give us TWO dresses to try on that you can't actually buy?!?!!? This wouldn't be so bad, but my third bridesmaid picked a dress, they had it, and she asked if she could come order it next week, because it was a bit more expensive than she thought it would be, and she was short cash. Our helper girl said "oh yes! This is our most popular style. It will surely be in stock, so don't even worry about it! You could probably order it the week before the wedding!" My bridesmaid called in to order the dress the following week - and was informed they no longer make that dress, and had to pick a different one. I realize these are all things that could happen on the brink of changing seasons, etc - but this isn't all. My husband bought his pants from J Crew, and had the same experience. No returned calls, emails, etc. Getting a hold of anyone who has even a remote idea of what they're talking about is nearly impossible. At one point, I had scheduled an appt to have one of my bridesmaids try on a few other dresses (I had requested they had three of the dresses available in a size smaller than 8, because my friend is a shrimp, was promised they'd all be there,) and was then greeted by the same girl I had met about 3 times with "Okay, who are you? Why are you here? What dresses do you want?" And then given three random dresses, not the ones I wanted, and all in a size 8. And then she didn't actually reserve a dressing room for us. So I got to clip my friends boobs into her dress (No, they don't help you with this,) in the middle of the men's dressing room. Bottom line, the customer service blows beyond anything you could possibly imagine. But if you know what you're going for with your wedding, just have your party try on the stuff, and order it online. (Unless you are students - then make sure to get the 15% discount through the store!) Our wedding party looked awesome, and wouldn't have been the same if it weren't for the dresses. So there, J.Crew. You get two stars.

Overall experience is 2/5, though the actual customer service itself has been more or less great…read more First of all, the phone system for 90% of the departments are AWFUL. It's nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get ahold of any department (I was calling nearly all of them). And the only department that picked up was Finishline. Jose from this department helped me immensely trying to wrangle the women's shoe department, calling me back to check on my inquiry when I called towards closing and was waiting for a call back from the department I was really trying to reach. I had to do my entire purchase over the phone, as this store was the only store to have the shoe I wanted in my size (I live in a different state), and I needed it ASAP for a special event. Since I called towards closing, I was supposed to get a call back. The women's shoe department failed to do so, so I called finishline again the next day (took me them an hour to pick up). It just felt like a lot of teeth pulling, but finishline and the manager of the men's department (Leticia I think but I don't remember I'm so sorry!) were really trying so hard to get the right apartment together (they physically had to run up stairs to communicate to them)! Super sorry I inconvenienced all the wrong departments, but I am immensely grateful for them! I got my shoes in time. Thank you! But please fix your phones at the cash registers or tell corporate to change the messaging in the automated phones because it was super frustrating spending hours trying to ring a phone.

I needed to find my bridal shoes and she needed to start looking at bridesmaids dresses. First of all, this is one of the prettiest Macy's I've ever been inside. I'm not sure if this is a normal big city thing, but feels like the entire store was just Macy's and not a mall which was cool. There seemed to be a lot of special deals on different items. Most of it was what you'd expect from a Macy's in terms of pricing. We had so much fun in the shoe section. They had a gorgeous selection of shoes to pick from. I ended up falling in love with some bridal shoes from Dolce Vita. I was so happy to be able to order them for pick up at my store back home so I didn't need to fly with them. We also tried on some other gorgeous shoes like ballet heels. In terms of formal dresses, it felt like they still mainly had their winter selection out, so we weren't able to find the exact green bridesmaid dress we were looking for, but we did get a good idea of what looked good vs what didn't. I highly recommend coming to this Macy's.

**Kari's Rating: 8/10** *(Would easily be a 9.5/10 if the beauty department weren't so…read moreoverwhelming.)* TL;DR * The beauty associates are *far* too aggressive--it feels impossible to browse without being approached every few seconds. * The café is still one of my favorite places in Chicago. * Free alterations on Nordstrom purchases and $25 for outside items is a huge plus. I've lived in River North for over eight years, and honestly, there's no place quite like Nordstrom. I grew up coming here with my mom, sitting in the café, eating pizza, and leaving with a "Nordy" balloon. Those are some of my favorite childhood memories, and to this day I still think about their margarita pizza. Now that I'm older, I bring my dog shopping with me, and she absolutely loves all the attention from the associates and other shoppers. We've been to the café countless times, and she would unquestionably give the kids' chicken and veggie meal a 10/10. Nordstrom is still my go-to department store because it's convenient, consistently carries the brands and style I wear, and the customer service outside of cosmetics has always been excellent. It's the first place I think of when I need clothing, shoes, or gifts. That said, the beauty department has become incredibly frustrating. I completely understand that many of the makeup associates work on commission, and I genuinely respect that they're doing their jobs. But there is a huge difference between being available to help and making customers feel like they can't exist in the department without being approached. Every time I walk through the makeup area, I can barely look at a product before someone is asking if I need help. If I say "I'm just browsing," another associate from a different brand approaches me literally seconds later. Then another. Then another. It gets to the point where I'm being interrupted every few steps. Instead of enjoying the experience, I feel anxious and rushed. I don't get to compare products or discover something on my own because I'm constantly trying to politely decline conversations. It honestly feels less like shopping and more like running a gauntlet. Ironically, the constant pressure makes me want to spend **less**, not more. I've actually skipped buying products because I just wanted to get out of that section as quickly as possible. I still love Nordstrom and will continue shopping here because it's my favorite department store and has everything I'm looking for. I just wish the beauty department adopted a more relaxed approach. Customers should be able to browse comfortably and ask for help when they're ready--not feel like they're being followed every few seconds.
