During a recent trip to Chicago I decided to stop by one of my favorite clothiers, Ralph Lauren. The store is the largest one in the United States and it's truly the best Ralph Lauren store I've ever been to. The selection is endless with many departments for men, women, children and houseware. The customer service was phenomenal, our assistant was very helpful, professional and knowledgeable about everything Ralph Lauren. This place is really nice! I would always walk past but had no idea they had a restaurant! My friend who is a regular here was nice enough to take me out for lunch. Since he was a regular I felt like we got special treatment since he knew most of the employees. We easily got the best seat in the restaurant without having a reservation which was a nice treat. Our waiter Terry was very accommodating to me as I was trying to find a wine that I would like (I like sweet reds). Terry consistently checked on me to make sure I was taken care of. Fried calamari w/ rock shrimp: This was good. It tasted like what you would expect fried calamari to taste like. The added fried shrimp was good too. I've been looking for a specific jacket for a long time. It was selling out so quickly that I thought I would never land one. A beautiful green corduroy down jacket caught my eye and it was one of the things I just had to have. Finally, after checking everyday on the website, I called RL in NYC to see where they might have one in my size. They had one in Chicago on Michigan Ave at the store on Mich and Chicago Ave. The salesperson (Nancy), went above and beyond to give me a fantastic buying experience! Over the phone, she took care of me to the point where I was gushing about her wonderful attitude. This was at 11:00 AM on a Thursday at Christmas time. She was as excited as I was that she helped get me the jacket. She even sent me a picture to make sure it was the one I was looking for. I'm a big RL fan. Went there yesterday with my wife, looked around and had a great experience. We returned today to buy something I had seen before. No sooner did I get it in my hand I was almost accosted by a sales associate, Bruce. He almost took the item from my hand saying he'd "check me out right away." I told him I wanted to keep shopping. As I shopped, he kept following me around like I was a shoplifter. I finally told him to leave me alone and put him in his place. I'm a 59 year old trial lawyer and I haven't been treated so disrespectfully in a store in probably 30 years. I'd like to think it wasn't because I was wearing shorts, a sweatshirt and a golf hat but perhaps that didn't meet RL's or Bruce's standards. Very disappointing. read more

Flew in from Atlanta specifically to visit RL on Michigan Avenue. Disappointed to find 4th floor home collection and half of the men's collection on the second floor blocked off with barriers. I was told that the store was undergoing a "refresh". Reports varied with claims the entire store would be open the next day (Wednesday), Thursday, or the following Tuesday, depending on who you asked. Mind you, the website didn't indicate that any portion of the store was inaccessible. A real gut-punch in that I booked a flight and hotel just to visit. And their visual display teams treat customers like they are statues in a park! They totally ignore the fact that there are living, breathing people in the store ready to spend money. Again, had I known that the store was under renewal, I would not have booked the trip. read more

I love this restaurant! I also love the bar. The bar is perfect for a date. The ambiance is superb. I like all of the salads, and the cheeseburger. My brother is a big fan of the liver (don't ask me). The brussels sprouts make a good side to share. Last time that I dined there, I split the lobster roll and the cheeseburger. What could be better! Every few years I step into Ralph Lauren to look around and see if there's anything remarkable from the RL aesthetic that pretends to whisk you off to Bal Harbour, Manhasset, or The Hamptons. Problem is, people from those affluent towns are more likely to wear Brunello Cucinelli, Rag & Bone, and Theory than they are RL Purple Label. RL is a narrow aesthetic that doesn't veer far from the idea that the sporting set (e.g., anyone who rides a horse) wants to wear clothes that look like theatrical reproductions of vintage polo fashions, the people who watch them, and people who think The Preppy Handbook is a REAL thing. I'll let you decide if it's worth spending $325 for a pair of men's cotton shorts. The actual store itself is pure theater: The idea that you're walking around a townhome set in an Edith Wharton novel. What I did enjoy were conversations with the sales staff, who were intelligent, hardworking, and down-to-earth once they figure you're going to ask them more than where is the bathroom. I ended up buying a $30 pair of purple socks that quite frankly, are stylistically no better than a nice pair of Gold Toe socks. read more

I am really happy to write this review for a great company and a great sales location located just off Michigan Ave. I love Ralph Lauren and love that they make clothes that fit pretty much all sizes and shapes! I have to say when I was in the store most recently I told them that and they gave me the grand treatment at this location. The sales team is amazing! They make sure they take great care of you from the moment you enter till you leave. I pretty much had a sales associate with me the whole time. I was in to buy a new suit and they treated me like a king! Maybe it was the fact that I was going to spend some serious money, but they really treated me great. Like the restaurant RL, a trip to Chicago is not complete without shopping at Polo Ralph Lauren. I love finding items here that are not available back home in St. Louis and the ambiance of the store adds to the experience. What is frightening is that some of the sales professionals remember me from previous trips. This almost scares me. Do I wear to much Ralph Lauren or are they just providing top notch customer service? Either way, the staff is friendly and provide a good old fashioned personalized shopping experience. This store is what makes Magnificent Mile shopping special in that the store of this type for Ralph Lauren has it all. Men's, Women's, Purple line, house wares, furniture even a restaurant. All the newest lines and styles come to this yet another flagship store in the North Michigan shopping district. Customer service is very attentive and helpful. Here's the thing about Chicago. The people are absolutely awesome. So my aunt wanted to buy my uncle these tumblers from RL. They were out of stock at the store, so the associate who helped her went and put an order in for her and said they'd be there within a week. Very nice food menu. I like the bar area. Unfortunately they measure the wine glasses and half the time for $15 a glass you get a small portion of wine. The lamb is very good and the lake perch is a classic. The people that go here are a cross section of Chicago locals and people that travel to Chicago to enjoy the great city. I was in need for a sports jacket in a jam for a conference. Being tall and lanky, with really long arms makes it pretty difficult to find anything in my size. Luckily, I just happened to be in the largest Polo Ralph Lauren store in the US. Honestly, it can be pretty hard to buy stuff from Ralph Lauren. Some of their clothes are really, really nice, but some can be a bit of a miss. Their oxford shirts are quite good, but the fit can be challenging. Suiting is also a bit difficult to get right. The sales associate for the suiting section was extremely helpful. He showed me a few candidates and what the costs would be. It really is hard to describe their suiting, as there are a lot of different variants. Some are unstructured, some are half-canvassed, and some are fully canvassed. Shoulder structures are more traditionally English vs Italian, and most are double-vented. Lapels also range from really narrow to rather broad. I wish I could have bought off the rack, but for some reason there was always some lift-off from my left breast on the chest piece. If you are in the neighborhood, I would still definitely check this place out. Although they didn't have what I needed, the staff is amazing and they will do your best to help you out with what you need. read more

I love this store because it's so beautiful and full of everything you could ever want from RL. BUT.....the people are just terrible. On a slow day they'll be nicer but the just don't know anything about their product. They kept telling me prices only to come back later and say "oh sorry it's actually $300 more expensive woops". This happened multiple times! And the mens department isn't any better. Once my husband got fitted for several suits only for them to tell him after that it would cost $150 per suit for tailoring because the suits were on promotion. Fine, but you say that BEFORE the suits are filled with pins. It's not just an add on at the register. I have to say the best service comes from the home department on the top floor. Other than that, come for the visuals but go somewhere else for all your fine suede vest needs. read more

Which is worse? Bad service or No service??? This visit is from 12/21/16. I do my RL shopping online or through other vendors. So when the company sent me a gift certificate and suggested that I visit their Michigan Ave location to spend my certificate, that is just what I did. I wish they would have not sent me in that store. If you ever want to know how it feels to be invisible, I will suggest to drop in. I'm sorry, let me clarify, they could see the other three customers, just not me. No one spoke or acknowledged me which is a shame being that the store was pretty much a ghost town. The tall friendly male cashier did say hello eventually. Now I was impressed by the interior of the store. However, after I passed associate after associate, there wasn't so much as an "hello" or even a cracking of a smile. I would have preferred that the sale went to the cashier instead of the sales lady named Siham. She grabbed the box of cologne that I wanted, but act like she was to busy to answer my questions about the scents. AGAIN! It was only three people in there! I was very disappointed in this visit. I live in LA and shop at the Ralph Lauren store in Beverly Hills. The service is extremely attentive and the premises are in great shape. The Chicago store, by contrast, is polished in the public areas but dingy in the dressing rooms and especially on the stairwell leading from the second floor (menswear) to the third floor (womenswear). The service is incredibly apathetic. I wandered the entire men's floor twice and no one offered to assist me. I even said hi to an associate, and she just walked past me. On the women's floor, I had a complete armful of clothes and had walked through several rooms before anyone offered to start a dressing room for me. I inquired about some clothing, and the woman I spoke to was borderline condescending. This was when I was literally the only customer on the floor, and the store is not at all under-staffed. One associate was helpful about finding sizes. I will say that I was not exactly over-dressed when I entered. Nonetheless, I was wearing actual clothing and I acted like a civilized person. I understand that I get BETTER service when I'm dressed up, but I think there is a minimum level of attention and civility that one can expect no matter how one is dressed. Note: After I left Ralph Lauren, I stepped into Banana Republic next door, and I hadn't gotten two steps in the door before someone offered to help me. read more

Have visited this great place since 2012 very often. Today 12/7 visited with my family RL restaurant and have reserved table for 2:28. We arrived at 2:25 they told us table is not ready, and we need to wait. We said no problem we will wait, and try to find a space between entrance to main room and bar area. My two old son try to to touch a chair and by fireplace was no people there, but in the same minute lady came and said we can't touch this table it's reserved, we said no problem.. after that very interesting person came and try to tell me we need to wait in rude way ... I was confused first and try to explain him we don't have a problem to wait, but let us know where and how long... he said he is not sure and it's not 2:30 it's 2:29, I lost after he told me he is a manager.... WTF is going on with market if this kind of shi... is a manager in RL.... He doesn't care about this place, he doesn't care about customers. If he did this in my company, it would be his last day at work... I told him your customers pay you a salary and you should care to make your customers happy... he doesn't get my point, and told us if we want we can leave and he is not care about that, I said no problem we left this place and went to NoMi cross the street and spend around $800. Do you think this guy will care about this comment? Of course no, people who own a business please don't allow this kind of personality run your company. RL is public company and doesn't count a money but small business will not survive with kind of management. this kind of people is a disaster and shame for any company... Casually strolled in looking for work dress pants. Asked where they were, and here we go, Alanna has got 10 pairs of random pants set out for me without even asking more than "what's your size?" I grab a couple on-sale in the $150 to $200 range, which is right about my threshold for a pair of pants. Ok, I'll bite, maybe she has good style. Next red flag: she recommends chinos with cargo pockets. I pass, and she insists, saying "I'll show you how to wear them." But I work at an investment bank, and there is no chance I'm going to work with cargo pockets. I must have told her no five times, but she kept pushing. Turned out to be the story of the day. I tried on a couple pairs, and didn't like them, but it didn't matter. No matter what i said, Alanna just said the tailor can fix it. Too baggy? the tailor can fix that no prob. Too loose in the thighs, the tailor can fix that. "let me just show you how they'd look," she says. Before I even know it, Jose the tailor is hauling in his tool box, the pants are marked with chalk and pinned, and Alanna has got the work-order ticket ready to attach the pants. I felt like i had already bought them, when all i'm thinking is "get me out of here!" As i'm in the fitting room, she brings out two random blazers that don't even match the pants; i'm trying on linen dress pants and she brings a corduroy blazer? Hahah what?! I insist that i just don't like the pants, but that doesn't stop her from asking "why?" I just finally tell her "listen, i just don't like them." She starts folding them up and just walks away. I never want to go back: pushy salesperson, and she didn't ask any questions to gauge the consultative sale. This place has nice apparel, just stay away from Alanna. I mean, who hired this girl? Does her boss know she does this? Totally ruined this place for me. read more

Being taller than average, and with legs the size of tree trunks I have been reduced to have my clothes custom made, and tailored to fit just me. Rarely will I find something off the rack that will cover my Ogre of a body and have it fit. Well apparently that's where I went wrong, and I needed someone else to find what would look good on me. I was pleasantly surprised and not once did I question her sense of style. Normally I dress very conservatively, yet the suit, shirt combo I got from here is something I will be able to wear for years to come. The tailor, Jose, was very detailed oriented and concise with his measurements. Maintaining the old saying measureasure twice, cut once". There I times when I feel that I am buying a "name" instead of quality, but not in this sense. I left the store knowing that I bought something very well made that will last me for a long time. I was pleasantly surprised by this store. I've lived a couple blocks down the street from it for years, but I've never walked in. When I did finally visit, I wondered why I had waited so long. The ambiance of the store is fantastic... plenty of dark woods mixed with the color of the clothing items. The whole place feels rustic without feeling worn-out. Quite impressive. Unfortunately, due to a time crunch, I wasn't able to poke around the second floor, but I look forward to visiting it in the future. The sales clerks were very nice without being pushy. They have the kind of attitude that makes someone like me excited to spend my money there. I'm not a huge fan of Ralph Lauren's merchandise (the quality can be very good but can also be just okay) and especially not a fan of his faked heritage feel, but that shouldn't affect my rating of the store itself. read more

The ambiance of the store alone, is worth stopping in for! This is what I consider RL's flagship store (It's similar to the store in Greenwich, but a lot bigger). It has incredible things you won't find anywhere else. They even have a vintage watch collection (think Omega, Rolex, IWC, etc...) and vintage cuff link collection. They do carry all the new RL watches as well. The 2nd floor is where I spend most of my time. That is where RRL and the Purple Label collection are located. The RRL collection here is great and they also carry random one of a kind things in here too. Awesome stuff. The Purple Label Room is a very dangerous place to step into. Woah. I touched some pants in there *yes, they were on a table and not a person* that were 100% cashmere. Whoa is right! I think they were a Lincoln short of $1k. The real reason I went in that room was to look at the shoes. This is where they keep the good stuff fellas! Shell Cordovan and a MTM program that lets you decide what you'd like to have on your feet. This floor also has the regular POLO stuff and RLX and that is awesome stuff too. Not to mention the fact that you'll see here that you won't see anywhere else. If you're a fan of Ralph Lauren or are just in need of some ambiance reminiscent of a lodge in Colorado - go here!
