    Pulled pork sandwich
    Jennifer W.

I searched Yelp to find a pulled pork sandwich in the area and called in my order. The meat itself was just okay but that bread. Oh no. It was very hard on the outside, and I could not bite through it. I had to scoop the bread on the inside with a fork and eat it that way with the pulled pork. Such a disappointment, and it was $8.25 for that small sandwich.

Stopped into J Dean's on our way home from a dinner trip after seeing it on our way. Their sign got our attention and a chuckle so we had to come back. Let me start by saying the staff working were super friendly and welcoming. They came by offering samples in addition to the ones available in the store. On to the store-I can't believe how many samples of jerky there were! So many varieties from venison, beef, to turkey and even elk. They also had a variety of cheeses as well. We ended up getting the Hawaiian Pineapple Teriyaki because it was too delicious not to buy. We also ended up buying some ground buffalo as this is extremely hard to find in stores and we love buffalo burgers. They also carry some local produce, tons of organic and grass fed meat and some sauces. If you wanted to pick up a sandwich, they carry Boar's Head lunch meat. Glad we made the stop in and I can't wait to go back.

I've driven by this store three times now within a week so I really wanted to stop in when I finally had a spare minute.. I'm so glad we did! The store looks brand new, everything is super clean, it's a nicely decorated space and just very nice. Speaking of nice, the staff is very friendly and informative.. they constantly offer samples and information about their specials and products, which is great. Aside from a large selection of jerky and sausages/meat sticks, they also carry a good variety of summer sausage, brats, and breakfast meats. The cold meats (i.e. jerky, sticks, etc.) can all be sampled, same with their cheeses.. check out the wine white cheddar, it's very good! They have warm sample stations where they heat up brats, steak, etc. to try. I was a big fan of the turkey chorizo.. you get all of the flavor but with a lot less fat than traditional pork. Aside from cheese and meat they also have plenty of (wild caught) fish; salmon, whitefish, swordfish, and more. I loved the thick cut smoked salmon chunks and salmon jerky (try the cajun one!) and the smoked whitefish filets also looked great. They have some different seasonings and spices, barbecue sauces and snacks like tortilla chips and corn puff things. The corn puffs are called 'Yum Yums', they're a little odd but very addicting.

Just a little vacuum sealed deliciousness!

I am/was up for the White Sox/Tigers game this weekend and had to check this place out. All my fam out here said it used to be the florist but now that it's something cooler...I'm in! The girls that welcomed us today were amazing! This place is great and I think they literally had samples for EVERYTHING they sell! And I guess they process too for all the hunters. ***PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT*** Please do all human kind a favor and watch your kids here and yourself. USE A NEW TOOTHPICK while sampling. They have GREAT sausages and burgers. The jarhead mild salsa was really good, so was the queso! My favs are the turkey jerky, cherry beef stick, cheddar jalapeño beef, smoked salmon, smoked cheddar, well there were a lot more actually... Swing in give it a shot and enjoy!

All the ingredients are there no hidden crap! Real quality meat!

Quality meat at a reasonable price! You can find pretty much everything your looking for here. Plenty of varieties of cuts, meats, and plenty of samples. The jalapeño and cheddar brats are delicious and a good size. Love all the beef sticks, the Michigan cheddar cherry is great as well as the pepper jack one I believe it's called. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable on what's in the store. Don't live on this side of town any more but still find frequent trips a must!

Very good place. Choice, tasty foods here. Tons of samples and nice people. This will be a regular stop for us. Good job guys!

I seen this store one day driving by. It caught my attention for the sole purpose of venison. I stopped by today for intentions on getting some back straps or chops. They had a variety of stuff but no fresh venison. I got 3 items. Elk jerky sticks red snapper and mahi mahi I got home and realized that I spent $34.00. They overcharged me and didn't notice. Lesson learned I guess. I will be back just because of the type of meats they have available.

He was kind and told me he has delivered steaks to some of my neighbors and appeared to know details about them that backed up this statement. I had never heard of nor tried their products before. I told him I would buy half of what he was offering, thinking it would cost me a little over $150. Even after telling him I wasn't a big fan of cheesecake, he told me still he would throw it in for "free." By the time he took my card and called in to run my card, he told the person on the other end to run it for $259. I was caught off guard by the amount but took the meat and cheesecake inside then did some research. The prices online did not seem to match up with what I got and paid for (6 steaks and 4 pounds of hamburger patties). I felt horrible about spending so much money on such little food and felt scammed. I then called the main line to ask for an itemized receipt. I explained the prices online appeared cheaper than what I paid. The owner was the one who answered the phone; he was extremely polite and assured me he would look into this right away and get back to me. The next day, he called me and was again very polite and honest with me. He explained his sales guys make commission, but that I should have received 2 additional steaks in one of the boxes I purchased. He told me he would deliver me these 2 steaks, plus a box of strip steaks at no extra charge. He showed up the next day and delivered it as promised. He texted me to let me know when he was coming and sent a photo of the delivery at my door. So far, we've tried the sirloin steaks, hamburgers, and cheesecake. The cheesecake was great! The sirloin was pretty tender and tasty. The hamburgers were perfectly sized and were also very tasty. Although my experience started off a little poorly, the owner's customer service and the quality of the product changed my initial impression of them.

I was leaving a Chinese food restaurant yesterday (I do food deliveries part time) at around ~7pm, when a man came out of the JJs Prime Steaks van and told me he "had some extra steaks. Do you eat steak? Do you want any?" It was dark outside, and caught off guard, busy putting the delivery bags into my car, I politely told him "no." Me, not knowing what his business was even, told him he should perhaps give the steaks to a homeless person (I figured he was talking about cheesesteaks!) He proceeds to then offer me *cheesecake*. He explains the different kinds of cheesecakes he has, and me, figuring he's still talking about extra product he's trying to give away, is a little more interested. Fast forward ten seconds, he's handing me a raspberry cheesecake and he says, "20 dollars." I tell him I'm not interested, and he scoffs at me! And then he passively aggressively says, "Oh, and what sort of food do you eat? Oh, I see, Chinese food." I respond, while getting into my car and driving away from this rude "businessman," that this isn't my food and I'm a delivery driver! I can't believe the level of unprofessionalism of this company! And reading other reviews, it sounds like this isn't a one-off episode! It doesn't matter how good your product is if you are this unprofessional to potential clients!

They also offer food options and that's what brought me in. Wanted a little bit of everything. So I ordered a Chicago style pizza, an 8" Italian sub and a small antipasto salad. Took about 15- 20 minutes to make, as it looked like it was closed when I inquired about their food. There was nothing being made, nothing hot or fresh offered in a warmer or at the counter. All made to order I suppose. The food is okay. It's not banging by any means. The antipasto is weak. You can count the olives and toppings they added to basic bed of lettuce. $8 for this and its true value is probably half that. Tomatoes were translucent and super thin. The sub is nothing more than a gas station pick up. Very light on the meat for an Italian. Like the onions though. $10 for that, true value is probably $6 or less. The Chicago style pizza smelled awesome and looks pretty good but they didn't add the sauce on top?? Not sure why. Ended up being more of a large arsed calzone. Still decent and cheesy but also seemed very salty. Very filling as well. Overall a dense pie that I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way for. Overall a fine stop for quick pick ups but I felt as if any top shelf gas station or convenience store matches what they offer and at a lesser price.

Beautiful thing about these smaller sized Korean grocery markets is that they have mom n' pop feel…read moreto them. No, they wouldn't have as great of selections as your giant chain marts, but they have the essentials ready for the locals, and their owners are usually very friendly and helpful. When you become regulars, they're usually very good to take care of you in one manner or another. (Please note that I'm not speaking specific to Kappa only, but more in general.) As for my experience at Kappa, it was pleasant enough. Mark-ups weren't as bad as some of the other smaller places I've been to, and I loved the fact that they have house-made prepackaged food available. They also heavily advertise their banchans a lot, which is in line with most of these smaller joints. Koreans call it "son mat" which our trusty AI friend describes it like this: "Son-mat (손맛) is a Korean word that means "hand taste" and is used to describe the unique flavor that comes from a cook's skill, care, and personal touch. It can also refer to the idea of passing down the love and care that mothers put into their cooking to their loved ones." This is especially important because it's what will get your customers coming back for more. The trouble is that these smaller groceries are mainly targeted for locals nearby. I happen to live 90 minutes away, and if I have to do my quarterly Korean grocery shopping, I'm more inclined to go to a bigger chain mart, unless there's a very specific reason to pick one over the other. I would certainly recommend Kappa for people who are in the area, not looking to stock up for the next 3 months. As for me, one visit was very pleasant, but enough.
