Been meaning to check this place out for a long time and finally got around to it on the tail end of a Dairy Queen visit which is just a short walk away. I was quite impressed with both the quality and variety of meats and sausages they offer. As this was my first time here the manager brought out a sample tray of assorted sausages, which is standard practice at this business, where pretty much every sausage I tried was was very tasty, fresh and with a nice soft texture and not tough and chewy as so many thin sausages are. It was extremely obvious that these sausages are made with premium meats as they were just so darn tasty with great texture! Aside from the large assortment of sausages, there are premium cuts of beef, jerky, fish, Brisquet, pork and higher end Wisconsin cheese to choose from among the food that they sell. Additionally, they have a made to order Deli sandwich counter that includes assorted well known sandwiches you expect to see at a Deli to include some not so typical sandwiches that include Cuban, Pulled Pork and Brisquet sandwiches all at very reasonable prices. As I only ended up getting a couple varieties of their thin sausage I plan on returning near term to sample their sandwiches as well where the Brisquet and Cuban are at the top of my list to try. Additionally I want to buy their Brisquet beef patties as these are harder to find and they make a mean burger on the grill. Overall the uniqueness of this store and the quality of what they produce and sell makes a pretty compelling case for you to check this business if you are in the area especially if sausage is your jam. read more

Great customer service. They had a special for jerky when I was in town. They have a lot of specialty/gourmet meat if your cookbook calls for bison, duck, rooster, venison. The storefront is very clean and the owners also have a small kitchen area where they can make hot sandwiches to go. This is definitely a place I'll try again especially for their hot lunches seeing how close they are to some local stops I make near them. The jerky? I ate them all within the first few days. I searched Yelp to find a pulled pork sandwich in the area and called in my order. The meat itself was just okay but that bread. Oh no. It was very hard on the outside, and I could not bite through it. I had to scoop the bread on the inside with a fork and eat it that way with the pulled pork. I consistently forget about this place and then once I remember it, I crave it. I love the 3 for $20 deal here on all their jerky/ meat sticks; from venison to beef, turkey, elk, bison, etc.! They also have been one of the only places I've been to, to offer marbled Wagyu beef- for $220! They also offer a deli to get sammiches, soups, salads, Mac. I've had several of them and when I want a good arsed Sammy, I head here. I don't think I've ever left this place without spending at least $50 or more. They offer a lot though including fish, sausage, popcorn, sauces, and even free samples- pre- Covid days. Everything seems like it's from a local supply, which I like. Hope they can maintain business and offer continued supply through this pandemic. Great alternative to big chain stores for all your meat needs! read more

Stopped into J Dean's on our way home from a dinner trip after seeing it on our way. Their sign got our attention and a chuckle so we had to come back. Let me start by saying the staff working were super friendly and welcoming. They came by offering samples in addition to the ones available in the store. On to the store-I can't believe how many samples of jerky there were! So many varieties from venison, beef, to turkey and even elk. They also had a variety of cheeses as well. We ended up getting the Hawaiian Pineapple Teriyaki because it was too delicious not to buy. We also ended up buying some ground buffalo as this is extremely hard to find in stores and we love buffalo burgers. They also carry some local produce, tons of organic and grass fed meat and some sauces. If you wanted to pick up a sandwich, they carry Boar's Head lunch meat. I've driven by this store three times now within a week so I really wanted to stop in when I finally had a spare minute.. I'm so glad we did! The store looks brand new, everything is super clean, it's a nicely decorated space and just very nice. Speaking of nice, the staff is very friendly and informative.. they constantly offer samples and information about their specials and products, which is great. Aside from a large selection of jerky and sausages/meat sticks, they also carry a good variety of summer sausage, brats, and breakfast meats. The cold meats (i.e. jerky, sticks, etc.) can all be sampled, same with their cheeses.. check out the wine white cheddar, it's very good! They have warm sample stations where they heat up brats, steak, etc. to try. I was a big fan of the turkey chorizo.. you get all of the flavor but with a lot less fat than traditional pork. Aside from cheese and meat they also have plenty of (wild caught) fish; salmon, whitefish, swordfish, and more. I loved the thick cut smoked salmon chunks and salmon jerky (try the cajun one!) and the smoked whitefish filets also looked great. They have some different seasonings and spices, barbecue sauces and snacks like tortilla chips and corn puff things. I am/was up for the White Sox/Tigers game this weekend and had to check this place out. All my fam out here said it used to be the florist but now that it's something cooler...I'm in! The girls that welcomed us today were amazing! This place is great and I think they literally had samples for EVERYTHING they sell! Just passed this place on my way to run an errand and I had to stop in. I was greeted by a nice guy who told me all about the products they had and the fresh food they had as well. This is a great shop. The workers are all very smart and this place is so clean! I usually don't go into meat shops because the smell makes me sick, but this one was totally different. They have a great range of products and some you wouldn't even think were a thing! We got salmon jerky and really enjoyed it. I lived in W Bloomfield not far from J Deans. Just never stopped in even though I kept wanting to. Now that I no longer live there, I had occasion to be in the area today and thought time to try it. Got an Italian sandwich on a ciabatta roll. Excellent sandwich! Also sell several types of jerky and sausage. Highly recommend this store. Sandwich on par or maybe better than Gonnelas. Quality meat at a reasonable price! You can find pretty much everything your looking for here. Plenty of varieties of cuts, meats, and plenty of samples. The jalapeño and cheddar brats are delicious and a good size. Love all the beef sticks, the Michigan cheddar cherry is great as well as the pepper jack one I believe it's called. I seen this store one day driving by. It caught my attention for the sole purpose of venison. I stopped by today for intentions on getting some back straps or chops. They had a variety of stuff but no fresh venison. I got 3 items. Elk jerky sticks red snapper and mahi mahi I got home and realized that I spent $34.00. They overcharged me and didn't notice. This place is amazing. It's exactly what I was looking for when I moved to this area: a local store with high quality meat. They have an amazing selection of beef, pork, chicken, fish and more exotic things like venison! The venison summer sausage is absolutely amazing, as are the blueberry breakfast sausage links - WOW. There's also cheese, salsa, hot sauce, mustard, bread and a few odds and ends (like jewelry made from bullet casings - my bf bought me a pair) but EVERYTHING is LOCAL. The best way to shop is the 2 for $20 or $3 for $20 deals they have on different items. And if you're not sure what you want they have more samples than Costco. I'm proud to say after a only a few trips we've become regulars and the awesome staff has recognized us as such! Thanks ladies!!! read more

WOW!! This place is amazing. I stumbled upon it by chance and sure am glad I did. Let me start by saying this place isn't cheap, but it's quality is top notch. I ordered a brisket sandwich with chipotle and Muenster cheese and it was far and away the most delicious brisket I've had. It was $9 for the sandwich but it didn't quite fill me up. I also bought venison red pepper sausage and elk sticks with red pepper jalapeño and cheddar and they're both phenomenal as well. It's very nice that you can sample all the meat sticks. The best jerky I have eaten in my life. I stopped in on sunday. (8/30) the girls behind the counter were great. They greeted us and offered us samples for days!!! The sample jerky we ate was good, but the jerky thats packed and vacuum sealed is amazing. This place has the best jerky I have eaten. Seasoned to perfection. I will be back here 100%. The owner was very rude when we tried explaining why we were upset about something a coworker did.

We've eaten there twice now, the second time was actually today and to give it a second chance. The first time my husband ordered the Cuban and I the pulled pork sandwich I also had the potato soup and he had the Mac and cheese, everything was good except the bread of our sandwiches was so hard we literally could hardly bite into it, so on to our give it another try experience, this time we tried the BLT, my husbands ciabatta bun, rock hard and same with my sour dough bread, I actually put mine on our own bread from home, hubby braved through his, again his Mac and cheese was good but this time my soup was cold, like not even kinda warm, but cold! We only live a mile away and last time it was super hot when I got it home, so not sure what happened there. The staff was pleasant both times we have been there, that's the best thing I have to say about this place, it's very pricey for what your getting, I mean $30 for 2 sandwiches and 2 sides seems like a lot, not to mention the sides we ordered were a little less than half full... disappointing and I know we won't be back, not gonna give it a 3rd try. read more
