DO NOT TRUST JE MOWERY--Unreliable, Excuse-Driven, and Costing Us Thousands We hired JE Mowery in November 2024, signing a contract and paying a $21,950 deposit after Lee assured us they work through the winter and would complete the job quickly. However, after weeks of silence, I had to reach out in December, only to be met with excuses. When I expressed concerns and requested a refund if they couldn't start soon, they promised quick action--but nothing happened. Finally, in March 2025, they sent workers for just two days to start digging the leach field. Then, they demanded a second deposit of $10,987.50, threatening to pull their crew off the job if we didn't pay. To protect ourselves, we had Lee sign an agreement that this payment covered the full completion of the job, including: Excavating the disposal field Installing a 1,500-gallon, two-compartment tank Properly abandoning the seepage pits Backfilling, grading, fertilizing, and seeding Fast forward--our septic system is failing, and this delay is costing us $7,500+ per month as we were planning to list the house for sale. And now, Lee's latest excuse? He's "waiting for sand." This company is completely unreliable, deceptive, and financially damaging. Lee was recommended by a neighbor when we thought we had a problem with our septic system. He came right away and determined that the problem was a clogged drain in the house, not the septic system. It was the day after Christmas, and a Saturday - December 26th, 2020. We had a backflow into our basement of dirty water and realized it was coming from our septic system! We had to turn off all the water - no toilets, no shower, no water for drinking or dishes. We called several companies, all of whom said that they would not be able to come to our home for at least 3 or 4 days. We would need to vacate our home and go to a hotel, at the height of the pandemic... Then we reached JE Mowery and Sons, who had an emergency number. They promised, at 2pm, to come and visit us that same day! They arrived at our home just as the sun was setting and pumped out our septic tank just before it got dark. Outstanding customer service, the guys had a great attitude and we so appreciated their willingness to help us out on a holiday weekend!! read more

I purchased a home that needed a new tank. JE Mowery agreed to replace it via contract dated 2/27/20. They took 50% deposit for the job and never came out to complete it. After numerous calls, he finally agreed to come in mid-April and again, never did. It's now mid-May and we continue to call only to get assurances he will be out eventually and is now telling us to find another company! We have gone months with a failed tank! read more

This company was so wonderful! They are family owned and operated which I love. They are professional, punctual, and did impeccable work. They even took the time to put the end of the hose in a bucket to not drip ...yucky stuff... across the lawn. In 45 years of living with a septic tank no company has ever taken the time to do that. They replaced the lid to our tank and didn't try to over charge us by saying we need extra work done. I highly recommend them. They are now my go to company. God Bless them! read more

We had a good experience with this company a few years back when looking for help with a drainage issue in our front yard. This year however we've tried well over 10 times to get them to come out to help us solve another drainage issue on the side and back of our house. After repeated assurances they stop by, months ago, we have never heard back from them and continue to have the same issues. Grateful a new company, based in Edison, is looking for new customers in Monmouth county. Hopefully we find a "dry" solution soon. Shame that a local business, recommended by family, didn't even meet the minimum standards this time. read more

We moved to Holmdel NJ last year and were told excavation work required including septic system had to be changed. We did our research asked for recommendations and the best was LEE MOWERY from J E MOWERY INC. Lee is great he is responsive informative honest and professional. He was knowledgeable gave us the facts a reasonable estimate. We went with him from the start. Everyone waits for Lee and his crew because he is the best. He maintained our septic system throughout the winter until spring summer to do all the work required. He came monthly right on time for the maintenance. Mother Nature was working with us so we finally got the work done. We initially thought we would need to put in new septic system but Lee said we could work with we had and did what had to be done. These guys are very hard working. They did what had to be done and wanted to make sure you were satisfied with their work. This crew takes pride in their work. They are up for any challenge. This crew was working Sunday in the heat of summer and they did it to stay on track and on time. We highly recommend Lee and his crew. Lee will continue the monthly maintenance. Although the previous reviewer gave a negative review, there were reasons for the delays. J.E. Mowery, the father, passed away this past year. Plus, one of their septic trucks was badly damaged in an accident, which set them back. Also, the rain has hindered the completion of many of their jobs. Lee Mowery is extremely trustworthy and knowledgeable. He has done his best to please, working one man down now since his father passed. They are doing our septic system now and are being very careful working around all of our landscaping. I would trust no one else to do a septic system, but you have to be patient. He is not a huge company, but he is the best in the business. read more
