And the one thing that I can say is consistent about Assumption Cemetery is the inconsistency of the maintenance & upkeep of the grounds at Assumption Cemetery. During my most recent visit on Father's Day 06/15/2025 around 6pm - which was a rainy day. there were so many areas that were flooded w/ water completely covering some of the tombstones (see pic & video included in this review). I have called the cemetery on Monday, 06/16/2025 & left a message to report the flooded areas. I also left a message about the following issues needing to be addressed: -- - - trash needing to be cleaned up & not enough trash bins located on-site so visitors can throw away their trash. Only 2 regular sized trash bins currently there & the trash was overflowing because cans weren't big enough. -- - - no markers on-site to list the section #s of the burial grounds so 1st time visitors can easily find grave sites. During my most recent visit, there was a woman looking for her dads grave stone & she did have a section # of the stone but since there are no signs listing the sections, she wasn't able to locate it. - - - clearing the weeds & grass from covering any gravestones - some stones are partially covered by grass and others are completely covered Each time I visit, I always bring gloves & trash bag(s) w/ me so I can pick up any trash that I see on the grounds & to pull up any weeds covering any of the stones. I do this for my family members AND for any other grave stones I see that are not my family members, out of respect but I do wish that the Assumption Cemetery grounds staff did a better job of keeping the cemetery grounds clean & maintained. I will continue to follow up on the issues mentioned above until they get resolved & I would also encourage any other cemetery visitors to contact the cemetery staff for any concerns they may have, so together we can keep the pressure on those who are responsible for the cleanliness & maintenance of Assumption Cemetery.

Terrible terrible terrible My husbands grave has no grass…read more When it rains he has water pouring over his grave, so much so that I cannot get near it for days. They have homeless people who take showers near his grave because of the location of the spigot. They always throw away his flowers, which are expensive to me. Cannot go inside anymore, one has to call. Kids go over there and play in the cemetery, wash their cars there. Its horrible. I wish I could move him to another cemetery.

I just wanted to thank them for giving my friend the respect he deserved. His family appreciated the kind way they presented his ashes to them. Very respectful and caring.

The older section of Oakwood cemetery is just as painted by literature and movies - crumbled down gravestones, crawling vines, unnamed dead, multiple generations of families buried together, and wrought iron fencing. Go find the graves of John Henry Faulk, Andrew Jackson Hamilton, and Ima Hogg! I hope I have not disturbed any of the dead during my visits there or my Yelp review. I simply like to stroll through Oakwood and take in the haunted beauty. Just thought I'd share one of my favorite, lesser known spots.

Bio: Susanna Dickinson was the wife of Captain Almaron Dickinson and was the sole adult Anglo survivor that witnessed the massacre at the Battle of the Alamo. On the morning of March 6, 1836, as the troops of General Antonio López de Santa Anna stormed the mission, Captain Dickinson ran to his wife, reported that all was lost, and expressed hope that she could save herself and their child. Although he died at the Alamo, his wife and child Angelina survived. Following the fall of the Alamo, Susanna was escorted from the Alamo mission, interviewed by Santa Anna himself and sent by him with a message to Sam Houston. Fred greeted me at the gate along with another staff member and immediately made me feel welcome. He asked if I was meeting anyone, looking for someone specific, or if there was anything in particular I wanted to see. What followed was one of the most unexpectedly meaningful experiences I've had in Austin. Calling what Fred did a "tour" honestly feels too shallow. He walked me through the grounds like a historian and storyteller preserving something important. He shared stories about the people buried there, explained the architecture and monuments, and had an unbelievable depth of knowledge about Texas history. But more than that, he knew how to read the moment. He knew when to pause and let you take it all in. He knew when to speak, when to move on, and somehow seemed to anticipate my questions before I even asked them. Fred was not only incredibly knowledgeable, but genuinely funny, engaging, and an amazing ambassador for the cemetery and for Texas history itself. You could tell he truly cared about preserving the stories behind the names. A cemetery may seem like an unusual destination to some people, but I see it as a place of remembrance, sacrifice, service, and history. Visiting here, especially after also seeing the Alamo, helps you understand the absolute, unmistakable pride Texans have in their state. There's just no question about it. One detail I especially appreciated was learning that the visitor center was intentionally designed to resemble the Long Barracks at the Alamo. It was a subtle but powerful connection between two places dedicated to preserving Texas history and identity. If you appreciate history, storytelling, or quiet places that make you reflect a little deeper, this is absolutely worth visiting.

As you might guess from the name, this graveyard is populated by Hispanic decedents. I've seen some Hispanic graveyards which have been well kept up by family members, but unfortunately this acreage seems neglected. Many of these graves date back to the 1920s, 30s and newer. I do not believe this is an active graveyard as there were no recent decedents to be found here. The most recent grave that I could find here was from 1964. First time visit to Evergreen Cemetery…read more Travis Audubon and Austin Parks & Recreation scheduled a group event here, birding and exploring one of Austin's historic cemeteries. Established in 1926 as a public cemetery to serve the African American communities of Travis County, this place is also home to mature live oaks, pecans and cedar elms, and is flanked by woodlands that support a nice variety of birds. It's always nice to learn a bit more about the city one lives in, and of the people who helped make Austin what is is today.

It is located at Airport Boulevard and 12th St. Many of the people buried here were born in the 1800s. This site would've been just on the outskirts of Austin back in the day, but of course it is surrounded on all sides by urbanization today. This is a nicely manicured and well cared for graveyard with a couple of port-a-pottys on site. You could easily spend an entire day here reading names. You can find graves that date from the 1800s all the way to the present day including many military service members. There is probably about a mile worth of roadway winding through cemetery. I drove through the entire graveyard but I never found a place where you could find a comprehensive listing of all those interred here. One other thing I was surprised not to find was a Texas historical sign that would've had some good historical information concerning the cemetery. I'm quite certain there are some very influential people from Austin's history buried within the confines. There are some posted scan codes throughout the cemetery that do give some historical insights . This is definitely one of the nicest graveyards within the Austin area. Check out the photos below.

Not only did the family not expect his death in the family but the staff was completely rude. Although our loved one had family in Texas we were unsure whether we were going to bury him there or in California ultimately we decided California which took some time for that decision and King -ears could not wait for an answer. The staff member Brandon Lanes not only was pushy and very aggressive in the decision making but also very rude. He was threatening family members that they would just have the county come pick up the remains and he will be buried in Potters Field and many others unprofessional statements. Whether it was an email or phone calls the staff was completely unprofessional and when dealing with this type of matter you would not expect in regards to this business. Their goal is clear and concise which is to collect payment and money but at the same time the business that they are in you need to show empathy and sympathy to those they serve. I wish that no one has to to go through these times with this business as I would not recommend them. As for the previous reviews that have been left seems to be spot on. This was truly a disappointing experience.

The funeral home is so inattentive to the families needs. My father-in-law had to leave to go and get bottle waters for our family because they had nothing for us. Once the service began, no one from the funeral home was in attendance to ensure things ran properly. My 20 year old sister-in-law, who was completely distraught at the loss of her grandfather, created a picture slide show to music. Prior to the service, the funeral home lady (the one with glasses and tattoos all over her legs) helped her to make sure it was working (what a miracle!). Well, once the service began, they had turned the volume on the sound system down, and apparently it is controlled from a different room than the one where the service was being held. When we went to play the slideshow, no sound. I promptly ran into the lobby to try and find someone who worked there. They told me they would turn it up. So, I ran back into the service to tell them it was okay. We tried again, no sound. I told the girl was glasses, and she VERY rudely stated that she had turned it up as high as it would go. I said, okay so should we try and turn it up from the computer (not knowing the presentation was on a USB owned by the funeral home). And she said I mean, I don't know what to tell you. Who says that? Really? Their lack of customer service and compassion for a grieving family DISGUST me. You should never tell anyone who is grieving the loss of a loved one that "you don't know what to tell them." You know what you do. You work tirelessly to assist them until the problem is resolved. The Deleon family refused to give their tax ID number to the employer in order to receive payment. I brought a company check to them and told Bryan Deleon it would be good the next day because I had just deposited the employer check in my company bank account. He rushed immediately to the bank to cash it and then called the cemetery where I was paying them to tell me the check was no good. I had to bring him a cashier's check the next morning.
