I am a frequent visitor to Assumption Cemetery, (located in Austin, Texas) & have been for many years because so many of my family members are buried there. And the one thing that I can say is consistent about Assumption Cemetery is the inconsistency of the maintenance & upkeep of the grounds at Assumption Cemetery. During my most recent visit on Father's Day 06/15/2025 around 6pm - which was a rainy day. there were so many areas that were flooded w/ water completely covering some of the tombstones (see pic & video included in this review). I have called the cemetery on Monday, 06/16/2025 & left a message to report the flooded areas. I also left a message about the following issues needing to be addressed: -- - - trash needing to be cleaned up & not enough trash bins located on-site so visitors can throw away their trash. Only 2 regular sized trash bins currently there & the trash was overflowing because cans weren't big enough. -- - - no markers on-site to list the section #s of the burial grounds so 1st time visitors can easily find grave sites. During my most recent visit, there was a woman looking for her dads grave stone & she did have a section # of the stone but since there are no signs listing the sections, she wasn't able to locate it. - - - clearing the weeds & grass from covering any gravestones - some stones are partially covered by grass and others are completely covered Each time I visit, I always bring gloves & trash bag(s) w/ me so I can pick up any trash that I see on the grounds & to pull up any weeds covering any of the stones. I do this for my family members AND for any other grave stones I see that are not my family members, out of respect but I do wish that the Assumption Cemetery grounds staff did a better job of keeping the cemetery grounds clean & maintained. I will continue to follow up on the issues mentioned above until they get resolved & I would also encourage any other cemetery visitors to contact the cemetery staff for any concerns they may have, so together we can keep the pressure on those who are responsible for the cleanliness & maintenance of Assumption Cemetery. read more

Sadly, the reviews are true. The lady we spoke with on the phone was EXTREMELY rude and unpleasant. We just wanted to visit an old friend who is buried here, and needed help finding his grave. Assumption Cemetary in South Austin. The on-site staff desecrated my brother-in-laws plot. We cleaned it up and added decorative flowers, and the on-site staff discarded all our items into the trash. When we inquired as to why, the staff stated because we didn't purchase the flowers from them. The before photo displays the artificial flowers we installed, and the after photo displays all items removed. We didnt see any rules posted about this as you enter the cemetary. read more

Do not bury your loved ones at Assumption Cemetery in Austin, Texas. We buried our mother-in-law here in Nov 2021, and she still has not received the Marker for her gravesite. We have called and emailed several times. When we purchased the Marker, they said it would take 14 weeks. It has been over two years, and we still do not have a marker. read more

My mother in laws picture on her headstone was broken by Assumption Staff while opening the plot next to hers. We have called multiple times 7 to be exact with little to no response from the front office. We were originally advised on 2/7 that the picture was reordered and was en route however, it is now 5/6 and there has been no progress made. Each time we call we are told that the director is in a meeting and she will call us back with no returned phone calls. This cemetery has gone downhill, the roads are narrow, the grounds are not kept, and the staff is unresponsive. If I was you I would not bury your loved ones here read more

I have never been so disappointed, distraught or devastated in my life. I have had problems after problem dealing with Assumption. They refuse to keep the Cemetery or Mauselim clean. They refuse to answer the phone or address the complaints. I regret putting my love one at Assumption. The Mauselim was not in good condition. I am so upset about what I endured this week. BEWARE -- I DO NOT recommend Assumption cemetery. It's a chase in getting someone to respond. My experience - Family member recently died and buried there. When asking about the headstone we the family determined current deceased was to be added to the headstone of spouse. However, the headstone for spouse who died years ago was not in the garden next to current spouse's grave. When we inquired, we were told the spouse's headstone already had 2 names on it. When I called to follow up on this information no one wanted to take ownership of providing this information. For my spouse failed to get the name of the person who provided information. This led me to believe the deceased spouse (with headstone) was buried in the wrong section of the garden/cemetery and they added the wrong name to it as the other spouse. After several phone calls, (voice mail say they will not return calls unless it's a new burial so I never left a message.) I talked to Jennifer Jackie and rude Emily. I explained the issue several times and left a message w/Jennifer for Jackie to call me back. Never happened. Eventually, I told them no headstone was in the garden and was told perhaps it sank or it was removed to dig the other grave. I said why remove it... this make no sense for they weren't buried on top of each other, but side by side. Jennifer finally told me the information given to my spouse about the names on the headstone was incorrect, but again, she never said who provided the incorrect information. She said they located the headstone and it was broken and would be repaired and placed in the garden. Jennifer followed up and the headstone has been added back to the garden and is ready to have the spouse's information added. We will never know the truth... if the headstone had the wrong name and if husband and wife are exactly buried side by side. For all we know they covered it up and did what they had to do placing replacement headstone next to the deceased spouse. Nonetheless, the headstone is now where it's supposed to be and ready for the spouse's information to be added. Jennifer B. provided pricing information to have the information added; however, I've called 2 times and emailed for additional information. Each time I've called I Emily who is extremely rude. Emily is rude, lack empathy and her customer service skills are lacking. She definitely needs training and appears to have very little professional experience. If she doesn't want to "SERVE" she should find another job or should be fired. I asked for Director, Paul Krotzer and his email address is paulk@assumptionaustin.com and Emily said he was on vacation. I asked who was in charge and what was her last name. Emily refused but there are other comments regarding her. I told her I was going to write a review and post to LinkedIn, however I didn't see a link for Assumption Commentary. Assumption cemetery has gone down hill. To start the maintenance and basic upkeep has gone to crap. I have been going to assumption many years. Growing up in the Austin area we have always gone here to pay our respects to our loved ones. But as of late this establishment has taken a turn for the worst. When we buried my mother we were in some concern about how little space they had at the time.. we were assured they had plenty of space. Little did we know that when they meant of space was literally having your loved one buried along the the roadways in the cemetery meaning when you park and open your door it's to a grave. When before we had room to park and walk to our loved ones grave.It's like they made space for more people only to minimize the amount of space to drive through its become a one way route it's so sad that money per grave has become what this place wants more of. After a while of going to visit my mothers vase was broken i did notice a new grave was dug near by i assumed her vase was broke in the process but im sure it was due to lack of shear respect for our love ones resting in peace. When I did go to walk over to talk to the office personnel a pathetic sign hung in the door way saying they were closed due to the pandemic. Really it's 2023 Here we are yrs later and the offices are still closed to the public are you kidding me. REALLY!! OH Except for those who are to be buried there. CAUSE YOU NEED THIER MONEY RIGHT. This place is owned by st edwards university a well established private university and the catholic cemetery association. You would think the staff would AT least talk to you face to face and being one of the largest burial grounds in Auatin Texas. They would make time to do so but no All I'm saying is the managers are there to talk a good game to get you in and your left being without. Think twice when considering Assumption. A burial from Oct 2, 2020, is still unfinished at Assumption Cemetery. A pile of unleveled dirt and an unsightly, unremoved stump is still there over five months later. Assumption Cemetery does not accept emails, only voicemail message. I have left two messages without a return call. Cemetery meets needs and budget. But management and or customer service is NOT customer oriented. The answering machine flat out stated they don't return most calls. But good luck having someone answer phone. I'm trying to get an answer for when Niche plaque will arrive and the lady will only say they will call when it arrives. Will not answer how long it has been on back order, when is reasonable delivery etc. For all I know, the vendor never got the order. I asked for a return call from someone in management. What a horrible cemetery. They don't return calls when asking for pricing on a tomb stone and they don't respect your belongings. Even though we pretty much bought the small piece of land and even though we respected all their rules, they decide to throw away our flowers time after time. Not only that but they also dug a huge hole on my grandmothers grave and decided they were just going to put rocks on top of it when we've spent money to put grass. I'm so upset that we chose this cemetery for my grandmother and I'm hoping that others can see this review and decide to choose elsewhere to bury their loved ones. Worst customer service I've ever had.. Call to make apt to design head stone for my moms grave, was on hold multiple time because whoever answer the phone didn't know the answer to what I was asking.. Just to tell me I couldn't do it because my dad was the owner of a the space and I needed permission from him to it myself which he had already done previously they even took copy of ID and sign, I mention that to the lady put me on hold one more time and told me something had happened with the permission and they couldn't discuss that with me only with my dad who was the owner and if he couldn't go in I wasn't going to be able to put a stone on my mom graces, which make no fucking sense !!! So yep it is wierd that I am reviewing a Cemetery. Hope it is nothing that any of us become a fan of anytime soon, that is for sure. Especially when the cemetery is called Assumption....I thought we were never supposed to assume anything because, well, I guess it does not matter or apply here. I work super close to this place and it is lovely. There are services daily, I know this because I see it. Which compels me to wonder how such a small place can have so many guests but whatever they are doing is really working. I have compared cemeteries and this one feels warm. For those who are into family this is the one that feels best to me. People actually come and visit their relatives and the graves and add decorations and flowers. I have been to others that felt cold and you can see that none of that celebration is allowed. To many families this works and that is great, not for me. we compared this one to Cook-Walden and there was just no comparison. People don't just bury their dead here and go away forever, they keep them in their thoughts and come back when they can. They have allowed statues, benches, wind chimes, etc. I chose to bury my brother here this year and my husband has his father buried here, his Mom's parents and others in the family. read more

This cemetery is poorly taken care of. Someone stole my Mom's vase. My Aunt's picture on her headstone is off. My Stepdad picture is gone on his headstone. My Grandfather vase holder was stolen. Went out today to put flowers on my daughters grave, found a pile of trash someone raked off their love ones and left it on her grave. Called the office the person answering the phone could only put in a work order, could not tell me when it would be done, because the priority for the grounds keepers is to prepare for funerals. If I could give 0 stars I would. We paid for my moms headstone Nov 4th 2018 and they told us 12-18 weeks. They missed up the first headstone with wrong name and the date she passed. We corrected it a month ago and my brother in law calls today February 11th 2019 and they never turned in the corrections and now its going to be some time in July 2019. If i could give zero stars i would. This place has definitely gone down hill. I last visited pre COVID in March for my brothers birthday. His headstone was completely visible no signs of sinking nothing. I went out a couple weekends ago on Dec 12th only to NOT FIND MY LOVED ONE anywhere within a 10 ft radius. Not only could i not find him i couldnt deliver flowers to him for Christmas. I called the office and spoke with Rose one time only for her to tell me you cant talk to someone in charge nor do they follow up. Where is the compassion , respect? You guessed it with these people. There are NO EXCUSES as you have day laborers and tractors all over the damn place yet no one has the time to "probe" to look for my brothers headstone. This place is directly behind a home depot so go buy a shovel and start digging . I agree, it might seem weird to review a cemetery, but why not. Buried our father here about 12 years ago, and it is awful. Yes, there are signs posted that flowers will be removed on the 1st Friday of the month, but if you look closely you will see very old, faded, plastic or silk poinsettas or Easter lilies year-round! Grave markers are sinking, the "grass" lawn is rarely mowed and is really weeds! Made a complaint to St. Edward University who seems to be the sponsor, but little has been done. A new fence was finally installed to replace a falling down one. The caregiver just rides around in a golf cart. What happened to the Catholic Work of Mercy of burying the dead with dignity?! [As an aside: "Assumption Cemetery" -- it is a Catholic cemetery and the name is referring to the Assumption of our Blessed Mother (the mother of Jesus), whom the Catholic Church teaches was assumed (taken up) into heaven, body and soul because she was conceived without Original Sin. My 8 month old son was buried there on May 13, 2011. They have signs that say that the remove the flowers ever 1st Friday of the month. Which is fine. My family and I had placed 2 solar lights, a butterfly pinwheel and a hanging hook and chimes there were also 2 stuffed animals that my other kids placed on his grave. Well we go to visit him on the one month anniversary of his death and everything but a bunch of artificial flowers that we had placed were gone. I am not sure if all this stuff is supposed to be picked up before every 1st Friday like the flowers. If they are they should make it very clear. It was very disappointing to show up to visit my little boy and everything is missing. It tore my little girls up. There is also a gate that is open to the Walmart beside it. The last time we went to visit him these homeless people come walking in through the gate sit down by a light pole and crack open some beers. Both of my parents are buried here. They do not keep up the grounds. I arrived on Good Friday to place flowers on the grave. The headstone is overgrown with weeds, there are fire ants all over the headstone and there is no vase or even a hole to put flowers in. I left in tears!! I have complained to the staff on numerous occasions and they don't seem to care at all. Once your loved ones are in the ground and they've received your money, no more maintenance on plot(s).
