I called a local plumber, J L Hearn Plumbing of Timberwood Park, who has a great reputation and lives in my community, to replace a faulty pressure regulator valve (PRV) that blew out, damaging the pre-filter on my new water softener system. I set an appointment and met Joseph, of Blue Ribbon Plumbing at my home. It turns out that Mr. Hearn retired and Blue Ribbon acquired his business. I found Joseph to be well trained, well informed and an excellent communicator. I have a much better grasp of plumbing, and my specific issues because of Joseph's clear way of explaining things. I appreciate his visit and his advice. But unfortunately, the service and equipment offered by Blue Ribbon are too expensive and did not address my needs. Richard, and his supervisors, informed me that they no longer sell, install, or repair pre-filters, preferring a Whole House Refiner for $7,670.00. I am happy with my new water softener and 2-stage pre-filter system; my desire is to merely replace a $236.00 pre-filter. Blue Ribbon quoted $2,200, labor only, to replace my defective PRV, which is unconscionably overpriced, and the other repair/replacements went up from there. I cannot afford Blue Ribbon when the same service is available from a local plumber at a fraction of the price. The PRV has been replaced for $520, which includes parts and labor. The 2-stage pre-filter is being installed as I write this review. If you have a plumbing repair/replacement issue at your home or business, my recommendation is that you secure a quote from a local, licensed business before you sign any contracts, regardless of the amazing financing and lifetime guarantee they might offer. JL Hearn is a top notch company that you can not go wrong by hiring. From the initial call, their office administrator and scheduler Rebecca is the best when it comes to customer support and service. She is polite, patient, and most of all knows the details of the business (what questions to ask)! If I didn't know any better I would think she is the master plumber with extraordinary administrative skills as well. I have used JL Hearn several times now with repair irrigation and water main pipe/joint leaks. Plus replacement of a pressure regulator valve. In each instance, they were on time, assessed the problem, and got to fixing it right away--no lolly gagging! Each job was done efficiently and professionally. It isn't every day that you meet a company owner that still rolls up their sleeves to do the work. I had a sewer line clog and they came out same day. The plumber seemed to be knowledgeable and unclogged main line for $300. But the reason I gave three starts is when I asked how much to dx issue and give estimate they wanted 300 more just to use camera and their solution would be to rip up whole yard. JL Hearn has been there for us in the worst of times. During Snowmageddon we had a busted outside faucet. Water was spraying through the sheetrock in our garage. Because we had to shutoff our water main to stop it, we were without water. Fortunately we didn't have to wait long because JL Hearn squeezed is into their schedule. so, like anyone at anytime we have a plumbing issue. our front gear out is stopped up and not flowing due to google coming thru and cutting a trench in our driveway, anyways fast forward to now and its clogged again. we researched and found this company to have great reviews however, its not the case with us. This review is based solely on the pricing of the new company who bought out JL Hearn. They used to provide stellar service at a reasonable price but no longer. They wanted to charge $280 labor for a $15 part. Other plumbing companies have bid the job at 1/2 hour and far less for the hourly rate. I miss the old company. read more

We're in the military and managing our home from California and had a rare issue with the kitchen faucet... it decided to just stop working all together one day and while Jerry said that was rare, he said he'd take a look at it and let me know exactly what the problem was. No problem with the work performed. I have an issue with the billing. Cindy called one of my employees and harassed him into paying for work that was not created by our company, which resulted in an unauthorized use of cc. (My employee was asked to call for a plumber to fix the the leak, by the other company.) The invoice actually belonged to the other company and I guess there process was taking to long for this companies liking. I had received emails from this company and returned emails asking for her to contact me regarding this invoice - I never heard from them. We just bought our first house, and lo-n-behold our main water line sprung a leak. We looked around for a plumber near-by with good reviews and found JL Hearn Plumbing. We gave them a call, I believe it was after hours, and the owner showed up first thing in the morning. He was very courteous and made quick work of patching up the leak. He let us know that the entire main line would probably need to be replaced soon. Sure enough, a short time later we sprung another leak. Again they showed up first thing in the morning, gave us a quote, and when the work was complete they stuck to their quoted price. No hidden costs, or any of that jazz. I called around for other quotes on the cost for the same work and he was by far the best priced, nobody else even came close to matching him. I have dealt with some other issues with our house, electrical and a/c, and found poor service as the norm with the companies hired to fix these other issues. Couldn't be happier with my service from JL Hearn! Plumbers were very neat (cleaning up after themselves), professional, courteous, honest and informative. And, the best bonus is that they must have the best prices anywhere. I first called AAA Auger, but they wouldn't quote me a price over the phone as JL Hearn did and once here quoted me a price of $382 to install 2 toilets and dispose of the old ones. Once I told them that I could get it done for less than half that price they went down to $300. I paid half of $300 plus three dollars to JL Hearn. We had a water leak crisis in our attic. My husband turned off the water once the leak was discovered at 12 AM. We called J L Hearn first thing in the morning, a friendly 2 man crew showed up, fixed the problem within an hour. We thought the cost was going to be in the hundreds of dollars, to our surprise, it was $108 with including tax. We have used this company one other time from a recommendation of our daughter who used them in their home remodel. I wanted to give them more than 5 star rating for the honest and efficient work. Other company's would of taken advantage of a crisis situation, not this company. It's so refreshing to deal with a company with high integrity and reasonable fair prices. I called a different plumber out the day before, he quoted a price of $375 dollars for a 20 minute job. I had to ask him to leave my house because I felt he was a price gouger.. Not at all happy. He left 2 assistants to snake out outside vent due to washer backing up into kitchen sink. No problems with sink or dishwasher draining at all as his assistants saw when they ran my water full blast for extremely long periods of time..hot and cold together! I told them the washer was draining better but they insisted on taking apart my sink to snake through there, told me I needed $200 more to run a camera, and claimed there were roots but NEVER showed me evidence despite my standing right there watching everything! Now my sink and dishwasher back up and the washer problem is worse than ever. I tried to get them back to fix what they screwed up but not able to talk to the owner just the wife and I doubt she reported my call. I would be very careful using this service. He installed my hot water heater and you have to be a contortionist to read the control dial and they left greasy hand prints on the wall and closet door. read more

Jerry responded quickly to my call for help - the floor in front of the kitchen sink was very warm and the water company had notified me there was a small leak on my property. Turned out to be a hot water leak under the slab in front of the kitchen sink. So he spent about 2 hours that day in stopping the leak. He and an assistant came back the next day and spent about 2.5 hours to finish the job. He had told me it would be $1100.00. That seemed fair because he did not break up the slab but went up to the attic crawl space and ran PEX down to solve the issue. Two small holes in the dry wall and a tiny chip in the floor tile which is covered by the Dishwasher. Here's the issue: He charged $237 for the first day's activities then added $1100. The corker was when he would not put the dishwasher back without charging me again! He said that was because I did not use his recommended fellow to arbitrate the claim with the insurance company. There wasn't enough to place an insurance claim unless I lied and I can't do that. So I suggest you don't use this fellow - he gouges and misleads. I used him twice before and he didn't do this but he's changed. read more

Actually we have used JL Hearne plumbing since he started on his own. We havent used them alot, but when we did need them they were great. Until this last time. I knew we had a collapsed line from the kitchen sink. I explained that to Rebecca, Jerry's wife and she sent a crew out without a sewer cam. So we had to reschedule it. They next crew came out with the sewer cam and ran it and saw the line was collapsed. The plumber that was there said he would have me an estimate by the next day at the latest. Several days went by and nothing. I wrote an email to Rebecca and she wrote me something back that was not relavent to my house. I wrote another email explaining that I needed a tunnel job proposal for the insurance company. She finally sends me a proposal that will not work for insurance companies. I sent her back what the ins. company requires as in itimized, which she sends me back an email that says, and I quote "Let me spell it out for you ! CALL WHOEVER YOU WANT ! As long as it's not me !JL Hearn" and that is copied and pasted. I will NEVER use JL Hearne AGAIN!!! read more
