Review Highlights - J Michaels Jewelers

I walked into J Michaels as a new customer this weekend and the young beautiful lady, Hannah, knows everything there is to know about jewelry.

EDITED TO RESPOND TO OWNER:…read more Please stop with your fabrications. You weren't there when I came in. What you think you know about this interaction was likely already twisted by your girl. I spent about 5mins with her that day - i knew what i wanted when i came in. She was the one attempting to "change my decision", when she tried to pull a bait-and-switch on me, i left your store immediately. There was no back and forth on my decision-making, none of my requests "evolved" into something different, i knew what i wanted when i called and when i came in. I wanted a basket setting w/ push back that has a flap. Polyanna was trying to upsell me with different backs where she immediately doubles the price to $850. So i said no to that immediately. I told her I just want the basket settings and push backs with the flap that she quoted $450 for. When she wouldn't honor her own quote, and still want to charge me $850, i left your store straight away. It's pretty clearly "her word against mine" here, and whoever wants to believe which side, is what it is. All I'm trying to convey is that i was able to find a reputable jeweler (Alfred Jeweler) that was able to do, what you called a "minor service" at a fair price $520 with all 14k white gold. They didn't just spit out a number in the air. They weighed the gold settings and backs in front of me before giving a final price, with all the specs i wanted. No "scrap metal" as you're trying to imply. If your settings and backs are truly priced per piece and "not by weight". Then it makes less sense why the price would go up to $850. I gave her the specific settings and backs that i wanted to purchase. She quoted me $450 total. ------------------ ORIGINAL REVIEW: Please read if you DO NOT want to get swindled by this business! I have a very specific situation, but if you make it to the end of this review, it will become clear how dishonest they can be. Be wary when doing business with Danson. I've been calling around local jewelers to get quotes for mounting 2 matching diamonds (1 carat each) that i own, into stud earrings. I've searched high and low, coz I was very specific about a few things. I was receiving quotes between $400-$500, to set my 2 diamonds into 14k white gold. Pretty consistent price anywhere i called. I'd also mention i want the basket setting, push back with the flap to avoid the earrings from drooping. These are my exact words every time i make a call. So I call Danson jewelers and spoke to this woman, Pollyanna. She said they can do that and she gave me a quote at $450. Again, pretty consistent with other shops, and she said i can even watch and wait for my earrings to be set. I thought... perfect!! Well, i show up there and she was trying to upsell me with a screw back... for $850! So I said "i just want the push back with a flap, that we talked about over the phone, that you quoted $450 for". She wouldn't honor that quote, she said it would still be $850 because of the gold prices". Mind you, we just talked over the phone an hour ago from that time... I highly doubt gold shot up that high within an hour. I have done my research, i've called and been to many jewelers before showing up to Danson. For her to double the price, without even weighing the gold settings and backs on a scale, it was quite clear what she was trying to do. One big positive that came out of this though... is that i got my amazing earrings made, by my (now) amazing jeweler - ALFRED JEWELERS in Glen Rock! I got all the specs i wanted for $520. Yes, this is with the 14k white gold, basket setting and earring backs, that Danson was trying to charge me $850 for! The owner at Alfred jewelers actually weighed the gold right there before giving me the final price. For my peace of mind, he also put my diamonds under a microscope (in front of me), took pictures of what they call a "diamond fingerprint" both in the beginning, and when i picked up, so i can confirm that they're my exact same diamonds I'm taking home. I love my new studs. Sadly, Danson is just another opportunistic business that isn't thinking about a possible long term relationship with a new client.

I usually do not leave reviews but this was a necessity:…read more My first order with them was a custom order for my sister's birthday present - something I was very skeptical about. However, I am so glad that I trusted Preet Jewelers. The diamond hoops they made were better than any other jeweler could have made them. The price, quality, color, and shine of the earrings is unmatchable. The diamonds SPARKLE from a mile away. They were very quick with the turnaround and delivery. The passion the owners have for this business shows through the work. Everyone that saw the earrings has fell in love with them. One of the best purchases ever. I have just ordered another pair for myself!

Preet and Tera jewelers has to be the worst experience that I had out of all of the wedding…read moreshopping and vendors that we used. Karan was extremely unprofessional and gave us a lot of attitude. My fiancé and I had discussed what kind of rings that I wanted and he took a photo and showed it to Karan. He did not offer my fiancé any advice on the ring setting at all. He said he made the ring according to the pictures which it didn't even look like and gave no insight into what choosing the finish and setting would mean long term. I wanted a matte gold finish which he did not advise my Fiancé would scratch very easily (within less than a week of wearing) and he ended up giving us a very very high setting for the diamond which made it very easy to get caught on things. We went back to him to get it fixed, and again the ring did not look the way that we wanted, and when we were discussing the changes to be made, he told us that he really did not need our business because God gave him enough and he could give me attitude (I jokingly said we had beef) because he grew up with "kalay" in queens. Overall extremely disrespectful, horrible experience and I would not recommend this to anybody. Additionally he didn't get the work done in the time he shared the 1st and 2nd time. Took more than twice as long.

A about 3 foot x 2 foot x 1 foot (approx) ceramic and metal sculpture was included in the move as they had appropriately and successfully moved the piece before with NY. As appropriate, the contract included foam encasement of the rather delicate sculpture that only has a few attachment sites to the metal frame (a bike) and multiple ceramic figures with arms, legs, hands, and a sun for a head. Moises packers used about 6-10 loosely folded pieces of paper (newsprint sized - daily NY post not NY times sized paper) around the sculpture, and another 2 ish pieces sort of crumpled around the top (see photo of just opened box w top and top packaging visible.) deliverers took same photo, I assume, since they snapped shots at the same time. In addition, the "box" was folded around the top of the sculpture, which (originally) had sun rays poking through DURING SHIPMENT. As is visible in a photo, some of the sun rays broke off (big surprise), and the rest suffered obvious damage and chipping. Of the 3 ceramic pieces originally attached to the bike frame, two broke off completely and suffered major damage. All figures lost some body parts, most lost fingers and parts of / damage to feet. Notice severe breakage in photo of the broken off figures in photo. Other items also came out damaged, just less valuable and more like cracks, stress fractures, and broken shelving / separators in , for example, a large lucite unit (2ftx3ishftx4ft). Also packing was clearly more intended to create chargeable packing volume than protection. Dishes that were already in smaller manageable boxes were repacked into a huge (now super heavy) box putting the dishes together (still have to check breakage at bottom of huge triple box) with about a foot of mostly open space at top (chargeable space!!!) and a few barely folded (literally 2 or 3) pieces of newsprint on top to "protect" against vertical movement during transport. And an echo dot was the ONLY item contained in a regular 1ft x 1ft x 2ft box - with a little folded paper again for company. And boxes going to 3 locations were supposed to be dropped off at ups, where ups repackaged (at our cost) and shipped (at our cost. Because from ups they went to 3 separate locations, but all went together from starting point to ups, we were charged $500 base charge for each final location - even though moishe's only took a single trip to ups to drop off the about 8 pre-marked for location boxes. DO NOT TRUST MOISHE's - AND THEY WONT EVEN REVERSE SHIPPING CHARGES AFTER ALL THE DAMAGE, INAPPROPRIATE PACKING TO OVERCHARGE SPACE, OVER CHARGE TO UPS... THEY ARE NEITHER RELIABLE NOR RESPONSIVE TO CONCERNS.
