Everybody has rough days, I'm guessing but the service I had done was a pedi and a fill in. The guy who serviced me looked at me , went to his station smoked his vape, and maybe 5 mins later got up , and had the nail colors you choose and try's to hand it to me, no hello, not even a good afternoon. So I didn't make a huge deal, I said I want the color white, on my toes and hands. He walked back to his desk still not saying a word, I'm a very transparent person I was not expecting a conversation cause trust me I get it, but at least would have like to be treated like a human. Finally he starts on my feet and each time he needed me to move my foot he would tap or pull . So finally I said " are u able to speak " he said " what " from the look on his face you would have thought I just called this man out his name. I said you keeping tapping and pulling and you can tell me what it is you need me to do. His body language became even more tight. Honestly I felt bad cause I don't want to be seen a difficult customer. He started using his words but everything was very short and sharp. I felt so uncomfortable but I needed the service done so I stayed. Moments after finishing my nails , I sat in the back to get my eyebrows done. The same man with his next customer who was a white woman , who had just turned 20 . I know this because I heard the conversation. He greeted her, asked how her day was going , talked about his kids and wife . While it's fine not to connect with all your customers it is not alright to be in the business of being a service to people but being mean and rude to some. I was just honestly in the neighborhood and decided to try this place. I will never spend my money in here again. read more

Every time I have been there the place is full. There is frequently a wait but it is well worth it. I tried 2 different locations and regretted those choices. One my nails were crooked and all different shapes ands the skin around them was scabbed for about a week. The other I was in the second chair and the woman treated my like it! She was greedy-she knew I tipped well so that was a wrap on that. At Jay Nails I am always confident I will leave with great nails and no wounds. They even take time to explore things if you want a different look - experiment with different glitter on gel polish, make a thin white line in-between 2 different colors or do some other art form for you. I have gone here for years - moved away and tried a different place. Cost me over 100 bucks to find out it was not the place to go. Jay and Lin are amazing as is the job they do. If it is not right they fix it. I described something i saw online and they were able to duplicate it nearly exactly without ever seeing a picture! Lin does the best nail shapes in the STL area. I got a pedicure and they cut my toes in 3 places and they were bleeding. They said SHHH. Never sorry. Then I got individual lashes from a different tech because a customer there said she got strips and they were ok but started to come off the same day. I was in a rush for a special occasion didnt have time to go somewhere else. One side was longer and the other side thicker and she said she will not fix them and I still had to pay. She said don't come back here. Then I went to pay and she charged me 10 more for pedicure then what I was told when I sat in the chair and I got no add ons. I asked her why they are treating me this way and lied to me about the price as well as messing up my eyelashes and refusing to fix them or not charge me. Terrible. Absolutely terrible. Took the staff two and a half hours to do a mani and pedi. Two and a half hours!! The television was blaring with other random music playing in the background. The staff was incredible inattentive to my wishes- for the calf massage (my favorite part of a pedi) she did only one leg for exactly 3 seconds. Me and my 2 friends went there today we arrived around 6pm we didn't get service until 8pm. I got a pedicure and my friend was supposed to get a full set and pedicure which she told them on arrival. The shop closed at 7pm and we were still in there. They did a pedicure on one of my friends after they finished pedicure she asked about her nails,the young chin argued with my friend about how they were closed and that she didn't tell them that she wanted her nails done prior to getting in her feet done, and that they were closed mind you we were still in there because my other friend was getting a pedicure as well. Same as always. great! Yesterday I brought my mom in for a gel Polish initially the first girl didn't do enough coats so it didn't look like the color my mom wanted. The nail tech didn't speak much English so I asked John to help. He came over took his time and fixed my moms nails while giving the other tech a quick lesson on how to properly do the Polish. Which was nice of him. He also said it may have been because my mom was slow to put her hands under the black light. Which I agree she had a hard time with. Overall I was happy that there was no fuss about it and my mom still tipped them BOTH. When I came in today for my appointment John was finishing up another customer. Not a big issue. Its like a salon. Don't expect your stylist (tech) to be waiting for your arrival. They gotta make their money. Lol. I picked my colors showed him 2 designed for him to chose from because I trust his opinion and his ability to execute the design. He was honest in telling me my acrylic was old and needed to be removed which was fine. He did it as gently as he could. Filed my nails and cut them down at my request. When he did the design he gave me control of how I wanted the design, letting me decide each detail. He always smokes the vapor which actually smells amazing. Its not harmful to you and it's actually calming to know he can stay focused with his headphones and his vap. I was happy with my results and I even got a gift card! read more

They charged me $92 for a fill in and pedi and I asked him to break it down due to I've never ever paid that amount and he jumbled something charged my card and left me standing there looking lost while he serviced another client. I told the lady to cut my nails back but she cut them all the way off. I have long fingernails to begin with but because I had two that broke she decided to cut them all off. I can barely pick anything up with fingers because the nails are so short. When she cut the first one I almost left. Then the paint job was awful. She missed a side on one of my nails and left paint in my cuticles. My son could have done the same job. Not personable at all. I will never go back. So upset that my long nails are completely gone. The vibe quickly changed as the young men who work there or own the place talked loudly on their phones, cursed & took up 3 of the pedicure seats. My manicurist did a horrible job. She refused to allow me to wash my hands before polishing my nail and simply painted right over the dust and flakes from the filing. I had to request a second coat & even that was shotty. I asked about the sugar scrub & she flung some oil on my cuticles and said "wash hand". The gel manicure only lasted 2 days but the horrible experience will be everlasting. This place is awful. I got a gel French manicure that started peeling the next day while out of town. The next day I had them fix the ones that peeled off. The next day started peeling again so had to go back again to get fixed. Again started peeling off so I went back to just get a new color and they charges me for a color change. I paid extra for a gel French manicure but was willing to settle for a solid color just so I don't have to fix it every day but they want to charge. I will never go back and sadly I live around the corner and have a teenage daughter so that's a lot of manicures, pedicures and eyebrow waxes you are losing out on. read more

I left with a cut on my finger from the electronic nail filer, uneven gel that eventually cracked and peeled, and gel polish unevenly distributed which left me with several shades of black and grey on each nail. My nails were filed down but not smoothed out so I had holes in the tips of my nails. Within 4 days, 5 nails chipped off. At no point did this manicure look even remotely good. Told me 10 min wait, was put in pedicure chair right at 10 mins, but then sat there with feet in cool water for another 15 mins. Their massage chairs were aggressive enough to jolt me around in the chair, not relaxing at all. During my pedi, the technician had to get up twice to stomp on a roach that went running by...TWICE! The floors were dirty up front with crumbs of chips and food everywhere. No way to tell if tools were sterile, they were laying in their caddy when she sat down. Used the cheese grader looking tool to remove dead skin, which I believe were banned by the health board. Got a French pedicure and while decent, I've had much better. The employees were not friendly at all. I will NEVER return to this business and make sure to tell people not to patronize. Gross! read more

Up until recently I loved J Nails, but this past weekend completely changed that. I walked in to J nails pleasant, AS ALWAYS, to be denied services with NO explanation as to why, and the funny thing is I was just there TWO WEEKS PRIOR with no issues. I was told my nails were "too long" for J to do so I agreed to have them taken off and redone so that they would be a comfortable length for him to do. His exact words were "OK" I sat there for an hour, another employee attempted to service me I politely declined because anytime I go to this shop J DOES MY NAILS. Shortly after, J walked over to me & said "I don't wanna do your nails, go back to where you've been going" and walked away. Confused, I waited for him to walk back to his station to ask him what the problem was because again, I was just there 2 weeks ago, for whatever reason he was afraid to come back to his seat, so his wife? I'm assuming, stated "he told me you are not welcome here anymore" I stayed and waited for him to come back to his station just to say "I don't want to do your nails" again I asked him why & there was NO explanation. I've always liked J & bragged on how professional he was, the only reason I stopped coming is because I now live 30 minutes away, so for me to have went out my way to come to his shop and be treated unfairly is beyond me. I was in this salon late before closing on a Saturday night. A young man completed my service in a rush. So much so that I have two nails that are coming off. After speaking with someone at this salon I was told that they would not repair my nails for free as I had waited too long. My nails should not have been coming off after 2 days. My first visit was excellent. The owner made my nails look beautiful. The pedicure was average. My second visit was a disaster. The nail tech with blonde hair rushed through my fill-in, left my nails looking clumpy and uneven. Two days later, the acrylic was separating from my nail and there was extra acrylic around my cuticles. The nail tech even started smoking her electric cigarette while doing my nails! I called and spoke with management who told me the same nail tech had to fix my nails. The salon was opened late on a Saturday morning. The pedicurist rushed through my service, was very abrasive with the exfoliant scrub. When scrubbing my heels she was too rough and was scratching my legs in the process. I told her but she smiled and kept doing it. She didn't put any lotion on my feet. The young guy with glasses who gave the Mani was unprofessional, act as if I was bothering him, bad attitude, no eye contact, no smile, no hello, didn't ask how I wanted my nails shaped. Just started filing them square which I didn't want. By Wednesday the gel was peeling off. My girlfriend recommended them, her nails always looks nice but she only let's J do them. I like the convenience of the location, but every single time I go there for pedicure, they cut my foot, to the point it bleeds. They are too rough when they do pedicures, I also had an average wait time of 45min- 1hr before they get to me. By the time they do get to me, my feet are water logged and I think that is what makes my feet too sensitive. I have decided NOT to use them again in the future. I can't believe I even had to give this place a star before writing my review. They don't deserve a star at all. I came to J Nails on a busy day and decided to allow J's wife to do my nails. I should've known something wasn't right when she didn't greet me with a "hello" or even eye contact. She began doing my nails and was being very sloppy. I asked her to fix a nail and when it still didn't look right she decided to try to clip ALL of my nails off very rough and rapidly. I screamed stop twice and slide my chair away from her work station. She then told me to leave and ran away. I then turned to her husband who didn't even apologize for his wife's childish actions. He stated "he didn't want to get in the middle of it". As a husband he should've pulled her to the side and talked to her. She's bad for his business. She decided to work in this field and her having an attitude prior to doing my nails SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN TAKEN OUT ON ME. I cannot believe J didn't have any sympathy for the way I was treated, especially after I've referred several people to his shop. I will not be going there ever again. I will continue to share this story in my career of broadcasting, because I do not want this to happen to anyone else. That lady is inhuman and miserable. read more
