If I could give them more than 5 stars, I would. Kristi was PHENOMENAL! Seriously the best dining experience I have had in as long as I can remember. My friend and I were there for a little over 3 hours. We got there at about 5 so it hadn't hit the dinner rush. we sat in a booth and were promptly greeted by Kristi. We told her we would be there for awhile, drinking, eating and hanging out. She did not pressure us AT ALL. I told her about my "tiny tummy" (I had gastric sleeve surgery) and she was so receptive and amazing! The food was bomb.com. we had the blue cheese fries appetizer (so good!), quesadilla, chicken sandwich and buffalo shrimp tacos. Everything was great. I think if they wanted to improve it would be the following: corn tortillas on the taco with the option to go breaded, and extra cheese in the quesadilla. First time eating here but it will not be my last as I had the taste for a burger while visiting Sumter. I could have gone anywhere but that is the thing I can get those other burgers from anywhere and I am speaking of certain chains that are here in Sumter. The staff is very welcoming and this is proven as Tonie was about to give me a playful whack of the menu because she mistook me for someone else. I did not tell her but she has great ink on her arm. I came in a little after 1700 as they close at 1430 (230 for you civies) and there was no wait. The place is small and quaint but not so small to the point you are brushing up against someone if it gets crowded and their is outside seating which would have been perfect today with the warm weather. I opted to sit inside. I ordered the onion rings as an appetizer and the jalapeno ranch dressing was great with it. The onion rings were ok but not something that will wow you but once again the side of jalapeno ranch was great. I even put it on my burger which I am getting to next. This place reminds me of a BGR with all the selections on how you can build your burger. The burger was very tasty and it along with my fries came out hot. I admit it was very good and you cannot beat the price. I like the menu as it does offer other options but this place has a foundation based on good burgers. This is good because so many places have a large menu and cannot do any of it well. There is a saying "Instead of practicing a 1000 moves once, practice one move a thousand times" and this is an idea that JO is sticking to. The bar is also great as they made a great Moscow Mule and Hurricane. Parking is on the street but I had no problem finding a spot right in front of the store. In my opinion this is no issue. To say I have mixed feelings would be a lie.... I didn't like this place or food but I'd go again in a pinch.. why you might ask? Because they were quick and cost about as much as a fast food meal but the food left a lot to be desired like a fast food meal. They had pork skins on the menu so I thought why not, it's a restaurant maybe they add their own twist.... Nope ! I've had better from the gas station. They were hard and flavorless Taste like they just came out of a bag and they didn't add any seasoning. They tacos were way too wet They drowned them in sauce. Beer was good with a wide selection but don't expect more past that. Not the best service either. I was sitting at the bar and still waited a good while for a check. I remember thinking if they walk past me again I'm outa here. Visited J O' Grady's last night for a later dinner after reading the tempting reviews about their burgers. Hubby and I arrived 8:30 which is sorta late for dinner, however they do not close until 10! Upon entering we were quickly seated, handed menus, and offered water glasses. The restaurant is laid out in an intimate bar setting with a few booths and tables that run parallel to the bar. There are several TVs above the bar making this a great place to watch a sports game. The small amount of seating may limit the influx of people who can dine here at any given time. However, this is something that I really appreciated about this resturant. The lack of crowds and the cozy setting made it easy to even talk to the bartender right from our table. Now onto the food, they offer build your own burgers as well as a wide list of their signature burgers each having a custom array of toppings. I ordered the Gamecock which comes with thick cut bacon, cucumbers, swiss cheese, guac, garlic aoli, and even alfalfa sprouts! I also ordered the pork rinds with pimento cheese to pair with my burger. The pork rinds were extremely crispy and delicious on their own but once I spread the cheese on them they were crazy good. My burger was cooked nicely and the meat was tender and juicy. The fresh sprouts and cucumber paired well and help to cut through the richness of the beef and bacon. The awesome burgers and atmosphere will have me coming back for sure. They also have a nice local craft beer list that I will have to try out. read more

This was only my second visit to Sumter. The first was to attend a great Brad Mehldau concert at the Opera House a few years ago. This visit was due to water system problems in Florence County that forced us to change hotels. What a great find J O'Grady's was. The decor is nice. The waitress was friendly and provided excellent service. She also authoritatively answered an allergy question (something that is not always a given). The menu has more vegetarian and vegan options than you usually find around these parts. Each member of our group was pleased with their food, which included a burger, vegan tacos and chicken sandwich. The beer selection was solid as well and the total price was good. A+. Good casual place to eat in downtown Sumter! Has some seating outside, a bar area and tables for 4,2, 6 people. Pretty intimate!! The menu has so many options. I tend to stick to the same items every time.. the corn poppers as an appetizer are so good! They have a little kick to them and are different then your normal fried corn bites (a southern restaurant staple). Next I ordered the tuna tacos! Comes with three tacos that have pineapples, jalapeño ranch, tomatoes, lettuce and tuna on them. So dang tasty! My boyfriend got the a burger and asked for it to be on Texas toast he loved it and then our friend had the black bean burger (also on Texas toast). Also! I had the grilled chicken Cesar salad. It's difficult for a salad of any kind to separate itself from the menu. However, when the waitress tells said that it isn't on the menu, it sparked my curiosity. This thing was full of grilled chicken! I also enjoyed the fact that the lettuce was shredded. Great meal from start to finish! Totally worth the 15 min detour from the usual I-95 stops to enjoy the local town. Tried both varieties of pulled pork tacos and both were an amazing display of flavor. Generously filled, we could barely make it through 2 of the 3 tacos. Visited here 03/16/21 with my husband. Being seated was a little odd, I think she was distracted. It's always been good in the past. Table server was very pleasant, happy, helpful and kind. Food is consistently good. I had the Buffalo tacos. They were ok, hardly Buffalo hot though, very mild!! To the restaurant: I recommend making your own cut fries. My husband commented that they were the frozen Ore Ida extra crispy (we think) fries. Definitely not fresh. It doesn't take much time to make fresh!! The few times I did come here to eat, I did find something enjoyable to eat, but I can't quite put my finger on why I didn't like this place that much. I worked in Sumter for 6 months and ate here a few times but never quite understood why the reviews of this place were so high. The food was good, but not 5-star outstanding. I typically came here with a group of 4-5 people and two of the three times we had 5 people, we were crammed into a table for 4 with an extra chair on the end, which was uncomfortable. We were in the area and searching for food. We wanted a place with basic pub fare and craft beer. Our search led us here and we were, frankly, expecting just basic everything. The atmosphere upped our expectations and the service was amazing. We sat at the bar and the two bartenders were friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to go above and beyond. Our food arrived much faster than we anticipated (it was fairly busy) and it looked like food you see in pictures. It tasted even better. Fries come with a garlic aioli for dipping, something I have not had before, and the flavors were incredible. I am not often in the Sumter area, but when I am I will visit this place again. Overall this is a 4 star place, but its 3 stars for food, bumped up to 4 b/c the inside sports bar atmosphere and or sit outside on the patio when its nice out. Its "known" for the burgers, which aren't bad and many options on the way to build it. They also have some decked out french fry options fully loaded which are good. The queso I don't recommend, not a large portion but if you do get them consider asking it w/o olives. I know, it's not usual so unless your in love w/olives make sure you ask for it w/o. read more

Been here several times. Service always excellent and fast. Food choices i have had are really good for a sports bar. I like the pecan chicken cranberry salad. Wife loves the pacific island tacos with ahi tuna. She won't try anything else! Burgers are good and all dishes come with a fried pork rind. Great atmosphere, great food from this pub style restaurant. Only been open a few days when we went (9/13/13) but they had everything down pat. Instead of the usual rolls or peanuts at the table they bring out a bucket of fresh cooked pork rinds that were some of the best I've had in years. Menu has a lot of unique combinations of sandwiches & you choose what style you want then choose burger, chicken or black bean. Most everything was named after local people or events, we had fun deciphering a few. The food was a massive amount. First time in years I couldn't finish, had to throw in the towel after 3/4 of my meal. Burger tasted fresh ground & is from a brisket cut, really tasty & juicy, cooked to a perfect medium well. The place is beautiful, lots of renovations & a beautiful bar. I don't drink but I was impressed with the layout & variety they had to offer, supposedly the largest beer menu in town now with at least 40 types if I heard correct. This little burger bar/ regular bar is located in downtown Sumter. It's got sidewalk parking, which wasn't bad for me on a Sunday evening. Id imagine it'd be difficult to find parking if it was any more busy. You're immediately greeted by the greeter, and seated if there are open tables. If you have a party, they won't seat you until you're whole party is present but you can wait at the bar. They have lots of options that range from beer, cider, hard liquor and spirits etc. The bartender was courteous in providing a recommendation, as I don't really drink often. The food came out in a timely manner. I built my own burger with a beef patty, with pineapples, guacamole, and jalapeños-- My all time favorite. It was delicious and juicy. The pineapples were the "icing on the cake," so to speak. I also got the chili fries pie-- it's essentially a pile of fries with chili, sour cream, and jalapeños . I prefer fresh jalapeños but that's a personal preference. The establishment was clean, and although it has a bar, there were also families there, so family friendly establishment? They also have an outside patio with the view of the Sumter Water wall (my nickname for it) Overall, it was a good experience. When we first moved here the burgers were amazing. The patties were hand made, the meat had taste. I haven't been to the restaurant in a while and was surprised that you have switched to tasteless premade patties. I honestly don't see coming back without the old burgers. I would rather bring a beer to Hardee's. I posted this on their FB page over a year ago and you think they would've responded. At a minimum with a rationale for the switch. I guess the competition isn't too stiff in Sumter to worry about this and $$ over quality has taken over as the number 1 factor. read more
