Great customer service from the dispatcher, but the work completed was amateurish. I told them that my kitchen had a clog and it needed to be snaked. The first thing I told the plumber was that I had another plumber out here about a year ago to do the same thing, but that plumber didn't do a good job because he just replaced the air vent instead of snaking my pipe. That I think I needed my pipe snaked from the kitchen grease buildup. I left him to do the work. He diagnosed it as another bad air vent! I showed him that I have 2 other air vents here that I had replaced, or the previous plumber had replaced! Since he is the "professional" I signed off on it trusting him to know what is what the problem was. Next, this plumber goes and takes a trip to Home Depot and after almost an hour returned with an air vent from the box store....wtf. What kind of plumber has to go to Home Depot to pick up supply? The repair worked for 2 weeks and then I had to call back about the kitchen clogging again. They sent out 2 guys this time and finally snaked it. They wouldn't refund me the extra cost of the misdiagnosis for the air vent. It turned out that replacing the air vent which was a simple screw-on cost more than snaking the pipe! I understand that a misdiagnosis can happen, but they should of refund for the difference in price of the repair that wasn't needed. read more

After my usual googling and attempting to diagnose the issue, I was pretty sure that we had a clog in the main line that was causing the sink water to back up into the tub. It was draining very slowly but any water use would cause another backup and it wasn't clearing. I put out a Request a Quote on Yelp and wasn't getting anything immediate. I decided to call a couple highly rated places and while my first choice wasn't available for another day and a half, J Stephens said they could come by at the end of the day. Ryan showed up at my door right on time with a helper to solve our issue. After some quick diagnostics, he determined that I was right and that the main line would need to be augered. It would also need the "larger auger" which would be more expensive. I'm not sure why if you have both tools to do the job, why it would be more expensive to use one than the other, but that's the deal. We needed it cleared asap and chose that route. Within 30 minutes they were wrapped up and the pipe was cleared. I felt like the almost $400 price tag was a little high for the amount of work, but after speaking with a friend in the business, he mentioned it's not much more than he charges either... which made me feel better... slightly. read more

Called on a Saturday and they came for a free estimate on Sunday. Turns out it was a ridiculously easy fix which took all of three minutes. He didn't bill me and was laughed instead of trying to get some money and pissed. 10000% recommend. read more

Imcompetetent and extremely overpriced and rude. They charged over $500 to replace a toilet with a toilet we already had bought and had at the house. Then they replaced the falange for over $300. After the toilet was installed it does not have the proper water flow, therefore it barely flushes and does not fill to the proper level. We asked them to check for a leak that we were having from the shower and they did not do it. Then one of them had the nerve to ask for a tip before they left. I called the owner and calmly asked about these prices and he just started raising his voice at me and was very , very rude. read more

I've used Jay's company three separate times for plumbing jobs... the first was a toilet install, the 2nd was a tankless hot water install and the 3rd was a toilet install in a different bathroom. He charges what he says he'll charge... there are no surprises at the end, and the work is quality. He and his team know their craft and I've never had to wait more than a day or two for non-emergency service, which is super. He responds to calls, msgs on Yelp and everything else... This is literally one of the best service calls I have ever had in any industry. These guys (James and Axel) were respectful to me and my property, knowledgable, eager to share their knowledge when I asked questions, and SHOWED UP when they said they would show up. They initially came on a Saturday to run a diagnostic, and J. Stephens (owner) even stopped by to check-in with them, which added a nice touch. They were not the cheapest, but after calling multiple plumbing companies and getting several quotes, they were definitely the best value when considering the expertise, commitment to get the job done timely and correctly, and their overall professionalism. I think their 10-year warranty speaks for the faith they have in their work. They worked like a well-established team, and that is something very refreshing to witness when in a distressed predicament regarding your property. They even put the tabby back down with care. This is the type of company I really enjoy doing business with. I called late afternoon when our water heater failed. It was old and clearly needed replacing. They were at my door within 10 minutes of my call!! Granted, they had a crew nearby finishing up another job. Even more impressive, they fully installed a new heater with a hot water recirculator before dinner the same day! When I had a stupid question, they offered to come back - the same night. When I had another question, they responded after hours and offered to come back again during the weekend, no additional charge. Thankfully I figured out my stupidity so the service call was unnecessary. Honestly, this is the type of business I love working with, and I'm almost hesitant to give such a positive review because I like keeping these great companies to myself, but they were so awesome I'm willing to share. We live in Mt Pleasant. Our water heater wasn't, I changed out the upper & lower elements to no avail about evening of the second day. Got a couple of estimates from Lowe's & Home Depot CTR'S. We were very disappointed with the service received from these plumbers. Needed copper outflow pipes replaced in the bathroom and small leak in cold water line repaired. The first plumber who visited gave us a quote for $2800 and we had to have the owner, Jay, come out a second time to view the job and get a more reasonable quote. After the work was done, I requested an itemized receipt several times and got no response. Two months after these plumbers worked on our bathroom, we hired contractors to repair some damaged subfloor only to find the pipes that were supposedly fixed and replaced were still leaking. I have sent them pictures and have been calling these plumbers repeatedly about this issue and they will not return my calls. We went with J Stephen's because of their good ratings on Home Advisor and Yelp, but these guys did not deliver on their 5 star reputation. Unfortunately we ended up with leaky pipes and no attempt to fix the situation. read more

Our under-mounted sink became disconnected from the stone counter to which is was glued. I called J Stephens, and the owner very carefully explained how the repair would be done. It would require the techs to cut into the stone, attach hardware that would hold the sink in place in tandem with new glue. After a time of setting, the techs would make a second trip to the house to reconnect all of the plumbing. The techs came, and used pieces of wood and screws, in addition to glue, and were done in an hour. No cutting into the stone -- no second visit. I called the owner to let him know how the job went, and he graciously refunded a portion of our agreed upon fee. He explained that there wasn't enough exposed stone under the sink to attach the clips, so they used the wood supports. It is clear he cares very deeply about his company and about the satisfaction of his clients. J Stephens will be my go-to plumber. read more

Unethical. Came out after Thanksgiving. Had a clogged sewer line that over flowed into our house. We were told it was due to using babywipes and the main line was blocked. We were told he knew this because he had to use a camera to see what the issue was. A month later we are having the same issue. The reason for the blockage is because AT&T put a fiber optic cable through the sewer line and split it in half. If the plumber had used a camera why didn't he see the line that was in 2 pieces. AT&T did the cable install in the beginning of November. All BS. The plumber should have been honest and told us the truth. How are could it have been to see the sewer line in half. $385 down the drain for a scam read more

Excellent experience with Jay and Louis. Our toilets and showers backed up late on a Friday night. Called them at 1PM and Jay answered. Jay spent a lot of time on the phone with me and scheduled us for Saturday. Louis came to our house the next day. He got us temporarily fixed, till he get schedule the job to replace our waste pipe under the house. 70 feet of the original cast iron pipe needed to be replaced. The job was done this past Tuesday to our satisfaction. And the price was reasonable for comparable jobs. Definitely do what they say they are going to do and stand behind their work. We called J Stephens because of their 5 star rating. They showed up and gave a rather pricey quote to replace a shut off valve on our irrigation back flow. The quote was doubled when they arrived to replace the valve since he suddenly saw "2 leaking valves." The job took about 45 minutes from start to finish (including wrapping back flow with an insulating material) and he charged $460!! This is the epitome of price gauging (probably because the job is in an upscale neighborhood), and I will never call him back. read more
