Great chicken, huge tenders, nice pepper gravy and one of the few places with livers and gizzards

    Jack Pirtle's world famous chicken!

@jackpirtleschicken #SINCE1957. This a memphis staple. I first time had the chicken I had to be 4 or 5 years. Til this day this is why I LOVE CHICKEN. One of the best in town true homestyle fried chicken. I usually get the chicken livers and rice. The gravy no words! @yelpmemphis chicken foodie #memhopeats901

Imma give them 2 star just because it's hard to let that chicken fried steak go. But as for the workers that was here today get 0 stars . Arrived at window told me to pull up which already had a line. So I parked and went inside to order. Upon entering restaurant worker was arguing and cursing. No one at front counter to acknowledge or take order. So I just left stomach growling and shxt... this is ridiculous, when you try to spend wit us and us just dont never seem to be on point.. this location to me is off limits order at you own risk...hell you might even make it in WORLD STAR...I'm very upset cause my taste buds was ready for that chicken fried steak sandwich...

    Refried/old chicken

It's like roulette, sometimes the chicken is fresh and others it's not. I normally got through drive thru asking for my order to be cooked fresh (freshly dropped), only to get refried food, unacceptable. Tonight I asked repeatedly and each time I was handed my food, I was disappointed, I just gave up, but insisted on placing this review. Do better, Jack Pirtles!!!

I'm not going to rant... I've been here about 4x within the last several months and I guess it's not them, it's the new recipes that they've been using. It seems that each location is like this, but Long story short? Jack Pirtles isnt the same. Everything is so very bland and has no taste. Gave this location three stars because the service Is good! :) if you catch them on a good day, the gravy may be decent!

Memphis has plenty of places to get fried chicken but Jack Pirtle's is in a lane of its own when it comes to flavor. Many talk about the arrow ding areas of the different jack Pirtle's but I don't go for the ambiance but for the flavor. The chicken has a savory flavor that isn't too salty or spicy and you can always count on the gravy and biscuit.

4 piece mixed box with fries, biscuits, and gravy. After drink and tax, just under $10.

It's fast food chicken, but it sure is good! That gravy is really the shit. It's an old, worn out building with little attention to the dining room, but they do have a 98 health score. If you don't mind getting messy, you gotta try that steak sandwich! This is 5 stars in my fast food category, which is a lower standard than I judge full service restaurants.

Anthony at this Jack Pirtle's location is an absolute joy. His customer service skills go above and beyond. I have never had such a great experience and I have visited every Jack Pirtle's location in Memphis. I'm so happy to have found a location with not only wonderful food but also great customer service. Thank you Anthony and all that you do!!!

My sandwich was very good! $10 is pretty fair for what I got. I loved the sauce, the meat was also really good. The tater salad was AMAZING! I'd get a large of it everytime I eat there if this was a local place for me. The meal was a solid 9/10 If you're in Memphis and you want some good BBQ made with heart and soul, then you should try Elwood's. The only thing missing from my meal that would've completed it for me was some hot buttery cornbread. I'll certainly be back to try their ribs and other foods!

Thankfully, right…read morewhen I walked in, someone pointed me in the right direction and said, "If you're trying to decide, go with the Redheaded Stepchild." I took the advice, and I'm really glad I did. It was fantastic--stacked with pulled pork, smoked sausage, and beef brisket, all topped with slaw and BBQ sauce on a bun. I also tried a bite of the barbecue bologna, which is a thick-cut slice served on white bread, and that didn't disappoint either. Inside gets pretty smoky, so you'll probably prefer sitting outside. Luckily, there are plenty of picnic tables and seating areas to choose from. I didn't catch the name of the guy who helped me, but he was friendly, energetic, and made the whole experience even better. Overall, a really enjoyable visit.

The waiter we had was being trained and that made the experience better. We got the attention of two waiters. This place was not busy at all. I think there were only 4 parties there. This place deserves a lot more business. For drinks, I ordered the Peach Martini and Long Island. The Peach Martini was a little too sweet for my taste and I couldn't taste the alcohol. The long island was good. I ordered the Creamy Cajun Pasta. It is not as big as it looks in the pictures but it packs a ton of flavor. They seared the sausage on both sides and thinly sliced it. Everything about the dish was perfection. The apple cobbler was also very good. Be patient with this place because they will be out of certain menu items but the food you get will be wonderful.

I definitely enjoyed the convenience of it being in the Cordova area as well as the ambiance. The art and music were definitely a plus. I had the pasta, which was fine. It was nothing to write home about; however, it seemed that the night I went, they were understaffed. The bar area was particularly quite slow. However, the servers and the bartenders were all nice and doing the best that they could. I will be back to try it again. It is a great stop for a no-frills, relaxing time near the house if you life in the suburbs of Memphis and don't want to make a drive to have a good time.

The hostess seated my wife & I and our server Carter did N excellent job for us. The restaurant is large and well spaced out. It is also clean and the ambiance is a home type feel. We started with the Fried pickles cooked in fresh oil and came out hot. The country dip is good. Basically roast beef cut up and provolone melted cheese on top within a roll plus an au jou dipping sauce. It's chunkier than a normal French dip but it is good. Flavor wise, it was average and could have been seasoned a bit more. The beef is barely above the bland side as far as pot roast beef is concerned. However, combined together the components elevate the sandwich. It's worth the try to see if one would like it. French fries were good and freshly lightly salted. Cole slaw was basic. Not too creamy but also not sweet. My wife got the fettuccini Alfredo with grilled chicken. It was good and you will notice the grilled flavoring on the chicken. For me, the food could have benefited from a bit more seasoning but that is subjective. The meals were well worth the cost and Pop's deserves to be on anyone's go to eateries if you want good comfort dining.

This was my first time to Tennessee, and my first time trying southern food there. I'll try and break this down quickly. The restaurant was cool and super clean. The cornbread and okra were probably the worst I ever had. The cornbread had no sweetness or flavor at all, and the okra was just hard, cold and rubbery. The sautéed squash was ok, with no flavor or seasoning really. I really enjoyed the green beans though. The macaroni and cheese wasn't that great at all, and the grilled catfish was decent. Now for the star of the show, the fried chicken. It was absolutely terrific! The thin and crispy batter and the juiciest meat! Yummy! We took home three desserts. Cobbler a la mode, banana pudding and bread pudding. The cobbler was great, the banana pudding was awesome, but the bread pudding wasn't that good. It was very dense, and the vanilla sauce was missing. That might have helped it a bit. Overall, we had a great visit and the service was completely top notch! Thanks again Grace!
