Used jack for 20 years and he was always honest and fair. Called for a sweep/inspect and apparanatly his brother has taken over the business. He double charged for the sweep because a small bird made a small nest. Then he scribled a bunch of "needed" work on the reciept, told my wife don't use it and left. Jack would take the time to show and explain what was needed to be done and provide an estimate and we would always say do it. Never, i repeat, never will i use or recomend them. We had this company clean our chimney last year and the cost was around $300 when I learned later from other companies that this should cost around $100. I tried to contat the company this year with multiple attempts for estimates and they were around $6,000 and the owner was too involved with the MN State Fair booth to return calls or transact core cash business. I needed a 125 year old unusable chimney knocked down to the roof, cleaned out, and capped. They had to remove it brick by brick, then capped and sealed it, cleaned out 100 or so years of yuck, and vacuumed on the inside. Thought I had bees in my chimney, but needed it cleaned regardless. Dave came out within 2 hours and confirmed no bees (awesome) and that the chimney was indeed filthy. He cleaned it, showed me on his camera where I had some cracks forming (which he fixed) and was super courteous and professional the entire time. I assumed I'd end up with soot all over the place, but not a trace...he left the place as clean as when he arrived. Priced about the same, maybe even a little more reasonable, as others in the area. My boyfriend and I wanted to see what we had to do to start using our fireplaces again, so we had Jack Pixley come out. The guy said he had to clean out the chimneys to inspect them. He cleaned the one on the main level and the one in the basement. He wore his dirty shoes on our newly cleaned carpet. The end result was that it would be $3,000-$5,000 to fix both of the chimneys, and it would be $600 for the visit that he just completed!!! We were not given an estimate beforehand that it would cost $600! We really would have appreciated it if after cleaning and inspecting the upstairs chimney that he would've told us that there was a lot of damage and it would be an extensive repair, and asked if we wanted him to continue with the basement chimney. We felt so ripped off and scammed. Nobody just has an extra $600 laying around for an inspection! I would never recommend Jack Pixley Sweeps. read more

What a horrible experience with this company. I reached out to them to replace a chase cover. First they install an oversize cover even though they came out to take measurement. They knew it was an oversize but still install it hoping that I would not catch it. No one wanted to admit that they screw up. Secondly they took money from my Visa card without my authorization. I have never dealt with such unprofessional money hungry people such as this company. Please if you were smart take your business else where NOT with this company. You hear about lousy contractor who do horrible work and take your money. This is one of them! Worse company to deal with & the owner and how they treat customers. This is a follow up to my prior post. Had another more reasonably priced sweep out today and w tax it was a little over $100. They were very courteous, professional and had a nice rig of equipment. They did a very thorough job and insisted on showing us before and after by having us look all the way up personally. About a half hours time and very clean. Left a report with diagram and no pressure for a return any sooner than two years as we are casual burners. Explained the flue, damper and fans etc. I have not suggested Jack Pixley does not do anything less than an equal job - we've never hired them so we can't say - only that we got it done much cheaper than we were quoted and we do not see anyway the job would have been better if we paid more. We purchased our home in November 2008, and at that time our home inspector noted a cracked chimney cap that should be replaced. We called JPS, who provided a quote over the phone, and was able to come out and complete the work as soon as we took possession of the home. The repair was fast, easy, and matched the estimate. We were pleased. Fast forward to today, and we are now selling our home. The buyer's inspector noted the same issue: a cracked chimney cap that was causing water to leak into our boiler/water heater chimney. But didn't we have this fixed 7 years ago? As it turns out, both inspectors used the wrong language: we didn't and don't have a cracked chimney cap, we have a cracked chimney crown, which is the concrete ledge on which the metal cap sits. After speaking with another chimney repair professional, this mix-up is common with home inspectors, which is a shame. However, I'm disappointed that when JPS came out to do the "repair" initially, nobody mentioned that the "repair" they completed was not necessary or complete. The crack in the masonry was obvious then, looking back. Both us and the inspector were using the wrong language, but I'm surprised and disappointed that when the Jack Pixley person was up there they didn't take note or mention the cracked concrete. This led to another 7 years of leakage and damage that could have been prevented. Again, we used the wrong language as novice homeowners forwarding information from our inspector, but I would hope that a professional would have noticed the actual problem and explained and repaired it then, especially when it was in plain sight. read more
