From the beginning Manuel was challenging to get ahold of (no responses on emails mostly). Work started a week later than we had agreed on and Initially the project was supposed to take 3 days - demo, install, finishing- and it was suggested that it could be done in one week. The project started September 25 2024 and was finally finished November 15, almost 2 months. During demo we had to ask them to stop because they did not tape off the space and spread huge amounts of dust throughout our house that we ended up needing to do lead and aesbestos testing to move forward (not to mention, I had to take a day off of work to clean up the mess created). We had to call and text and basically beg them to send people out to finish the work and we could tell we were a very low priority- mostly working Saturdays, canceling multiple times after committing to dates, unwilling to commit to days until a day or two in advance, etc. He pretended he would work around our schedule but if that was the case, this work would have NEVER been completed. I canceled plans 3 times during this process to make myself available to get this work done. After demo, I think they realized this job was more complicated than originally anticipated but instead of telling us that, Manuel just kept us guessing, unsure if the timeline had changed- he did not want to communicate specifics with us which we would have really appreciated and welcomed. We learned quickly that they were not particularly respectful of our space so we began taping up our own plastic space dividers to keep dust and fumes out of the rest of our living space. The workers were very nice and I believe the issue is with management rather than the workers themselves. In the end, the work is nice enough which is why I give 2 stars instead of 1. The finished work was absolutely not worth the headache and displacement we experienced to get it done. It was a truly painful experience. I have other cabinetry projects I would like to do but will absolutely not be hiring MJ Custom cabinetry again to do the work.

Robert came in, assessed the issue, and got to work. Within a couple of hours, everything was functioning properly again. I'm not sure where these good reviews come from because my experience has been the opposite. We had…read morea brief chat, he seemed busy and wanted pictures sent to him directly instead of actually coming by in person to do an actual inspection. I've had at least two others come by, one of them hasn't given me a quote, the other had followed up and I did receive a quote from them. I can't say the same for this guy, he just left me on read and never bothered to follow up. I'm not going to go out my way to pay someone and give them an opportunity because it's not my job to go after people and to follow up. Also if you're more "value orientated" like me, he has a $550 a day minimum so keep that in mind. It could be that my job didn't hit this so he couldn't of bothered, but I am just speculating. The process to find a reliable contractor is a quasi part time itself. All of them are situational and with that being said, it's a huge YMMV based off when you need or want them and if they will even bother to entertain you because they just don't care enough to follow up if its a bad time (Which you'll never know). There's a happy ending to this story though, one of the people did get back to me and I just need to figure out how to schedule him when we figure out how we're going to get things done. This is all the time and effort I will put into this.

It started off fine. I asked them to hang a door, and they asked for pictures of the old door. I…read moresent those, they quoted and scheduled the job. Great! But when they showed up on the installation day, they announced that they had quoted it wrong because the door was a different size than they had imagined. They had to select a whole new date, and they raised the price by about 50% (for a door 1 foot taller than it was in their imagination). They also mentioned, for the first time, that my initial price had been "discounted" because they had included staining, which I had declined on my signed work order - where it was shown as a separate line item with its own price. No sign of a discount anywhere. Anyway, after some haggling we agreed on a new price and a new date. The guy who hung the door was actually great, but then the stain guy did not show up. I was told he had an emergency and would come early the next morning. We agreed on 8:30 AM. No sign of him at all until just before 10 AM. The first full sentence he spoke to me was a suggestion that maybe we should wait until the *following* morning to do it (Sunday). I said I didn't want to devote a third day to this, and that we should just forge ahead and get it done. I had an any case already canceled everything else I had planned for Saturday just to make sure I would be available for these guys. He then announced that he had to go get supplies, even though the team had now seen the door at least twice previously. I asked how long that would take, and learned that it should be about a 45 minute trip. 2 1/2 hours later and no sign of the guy. It seemed clear when he arrived that he didn't want the job, and as I write this my expectation is that he is not coming back at all. At this point, I don't think I want him to. It would be hard to trust the quality of his work. To make matters worse, there appears to be no way of communicating with the company so that we can be sure we are all on the same page. The office line does not pick up, and emails have gone unanswered. All this despite agreeing to a far higher price than initially quoted, giving them the stain work that they insisted they wanted in order to give even that price, and then devoting several hours on each of two consecutive days to allowing them to do said stain work only to have them do no such work at all. Based on other reviews, I realize this is not typical. But the fact that they appear to have no good way of managing the situation when there's a problem with one of their workers does not reflect well on the company as a whole. UPDATE: The guy who hung the door (whose work had been great) took over the job and handled the stain. He was able to get back out fairly soon, and though the overall time commitment to this job on my part was unacceptable it seems to have been largely due to this one fellow, the original stainer. I imagine they will take steps to prevent it from happening again. And the oversight in quoting the job properly, while hard to understand, was probably just that - an oversight. Raising from 2 stars to 4, though I can't see my way to 5 given all of the above.

Paul did a beautiful job on our custom maple wainscoting and bar work at Bohemia. This was not a…read morebasic install. The project involved a lot of layout decisions, uneven floor conditions, outlet coordination, panel proportions, cap details, and making sure everything would work both visually and practically in a commercial space. Paul was thoughtful throughout the process and clearly knows finish carpentry. What I appreciated most was that he did not just rush through it. He took the time to think through the details, explain options, and flag things that could affect the final result before cutting into the material. He was especially careful with the panel layout, wood movement, grain direction, and how the base and trim should be handled so the finished product would both look right and hold up well over time. The wainscoting came out really elegant and clean, and the craftsmanship is obvious in person. It gave the space warmth and character immediately. The bar work also came out great and tied in nicely with the rest of the room. Paul cares about the end result and it shows. If you are looking for someone for detailed trim or custom millwork and want somebody who actually thinks through the job instead of just nailing things up, I would absolutely recommend him.
