This was a fun dinner on our first night in London. I had wanted the steak hand pie however they did have chicken hand pies. My mom got some fish balls, she liked the breading. My sister did the standard fish and chips and said it was good. The chicken hand pie was good. The sticky toffee pudding was the show stealer. Short of licking the plate, it was all gone. The place is bright with many tables. For sure a spot that draws in tourists. Service was fine. We did have to ask a few times for the check.
Jack the Chipper offers a decent introduction to classic British fish and chips, making it a good place for tourists trying it for the first time. The fish is usually crispy and the chips are chunky, giving you the traditional experience many visitors look for. That said, the quality can be a bit inconsistent. The seasoning is mild, the chips a little oily, and the seating area can feel cramped during busy hours. Service is friendly but can slow down when the place gets crowded. Overall, it's not the best fish and chips in London, but it's a fun and easy stop for first-timers who want to tick the dish off their list while exploring the city.
Was in the neighborhood for a different activity and stopped by here for some fish and chips. I knew the moment I walked in that it was definitely a tourist spot due to the decor but was starving so I gave it a go. I ordered the cod and chips while my friend got the sausage and chips with curry sauce. The meals came in massive portions and presented nicely with the curry sauce in a huge dish which my local friend said is not usually the case. After adding tons of salt and vinegar, I tried my dish and was disappointed. The fish was tender but super bland and greasy while the chips were dry and felt like they were left out for a while. The tartar sauce was strangely sweet and so was the ketchup. My friend said her dish was also subpar with the same issue with her chips where it was super dry and stale. Later that night she also felt ill from the meal. Overall, not a place I'd come for fish and chips but the service was very nice.
Fish and chips the ever elusive go to food for me. We tried a few places and now we had to try this place. Salad for starters, fish and chips, and salmon pasta. Salad was good, fish and chips was excellent, the salmon pasta was delicious. I may have found the place for fish and chips. The service was great and the staff was super friendly. A good place for a hungry couple looking for some good grub!
Very good food. I enjoyed the steak pie and Mr S had fish n chips. We both enjoyed. Kiddo liked his chicken nuggets (not very adventurous, I know).
This place was delicious! The service was somehow even better. I had the Haddock which was perfectly battered and fully flaborful. Charlie was my server and he was delightful and attentive and helped my choose. He also had playful banter with Talgot who was also a gentleman and great server. If you're in London by the shoreditch area; I recommend popping into Jack the Chipper. Not only is the name a cool play on words, the interior was beautiful and the service was efficient. Located within 3 minutes walking distance from several public transit and underground We were a family of 4. Unfortunately they were out of the tilapia so we opt for paddock as our fish & chips meal. The meal came with many sauce options such as ketchup, mayo, tar tar sauce and we ordered curry sauce on the side. We also tried the shrimp scampi, fried chicken wings and caramel sticky toffee pudding. Everything was delicious ..food was a 7/10 I ordered the passion fruit mojito ..double. Tasted like straight juice 4/10
Service at Jack the Chipper was a solid 5. Wait staff was super friendly and food came out super quick Food: the fish and chips around 3.75 stars. Just fish n chips. Nothing bad but would say average. The burger was cooked a little longer than I would like , but was edible. Ambience: 3 stars. Lots of tables packed in a small space.
Okay, this review is going to be a bit of a mixed bag. Wasn't going to post it, but I was looking through pics from my trip, and that memory hit hard. So, here we go... The food? Excellent. Service from waitstaff? Friendly, expedient and knowledgeable. Decor? Clean, vibrant and jovial... ..here is where it goes bad: the Manager is an arsehole. Openly, and unabashedly. When you and your business "associate" decided to arrive from downstairs, you then very openly and aggressively barked orders at waitstaff to realign tables and chairs whilst diners are sitting for meals. Don't do that: first point. Second point: when a waitress checks with you about cleaning cloths to be used to clean tables, don't belittle her and say "No, use your apron" like you're speaking down to a child. The look of humiliation and defeat on her face almost had me snap, and unload on you for being a prick. I fucking loathe bullies. Instead? I decided telling her she was doing a good job and telling her "Ignore that guy, he's a dick.." at least put a sad smile on her face. I've seen that type of smile before - it's on someone that regularly gets bullied: that changes post review: I MEAN IT. Now after doing that, and then toadying up to me and commenting that staff are "like family" you made me feel repulsed. (You lost stars for that..). This is where it changes slightly again. To your credit? When an older chap (an ex butler, can't remember his name, but talked about his daughter a great deal) had trouble with his credit card, you covered his debt. Very much in earshot- but still. So what is apparent is you're not entirely without compassion - that was very kind and I do respect that. But it does not excuse the rest of your attitude or deportment. Going forward (and this is someone who's ex-Military and an ex-Chef), DON'T belittle waitstaff - I never did, so you don't either. Praise and support in public - direct and correct in private. In case you're dismissing this as a fake review? I was the big, tattooed Australian bikie eating there with you on the 20th of October this year. I will be back. I'm hoping that there will be a positive change in management..
Recommended by a local we wandered in after a long day of sightseeing. Cod Fish & Chips were great, light crisp crust! The salad quality was a very nice, better than expected from a fried fish place! Water was served with lemon and apples which was a nice touch!
On our last night in London, we wanted to end the trip with fish and chips. We saw Jack The Chipper when we were on the Jack The Ripper tour and it stuck with us, plus the reviews were good. The service was the best and they really treated us Texans with love. The fish and chips were on point and the beer was good too. One of the highlights of the trip!

Basic fish n chips. As an American, I find it underseasoned but it was crispy and made well. It's weird being in a 50s/Elvis style diner in London but it is what it is. Good service and decent prices.
We visited as tourists looking for a fish and chip experience and found a great one here. The staff was friendly, the decor was cute, and our portions were huge even when getting the regular size. I got the cod and really enjoyed it. No fishy aftertaste, and the tartar sauce that came with it was especially great compared to what I've had in the states. We recommend and would return! read more
We thought it would be cheeky to come here for Fish and Chips before going to a Jack the Ripper walking tour right down the block. It didn't disappoint! Although the reviews make this place out to be very touristy and as kitschy as it's name, the fried fish we had here was actually the best we had all week! I got the cod, my husband got the haddock. It was crispy and well seasoned. The fries were just ok. Service was good, decent beer and ciders available as well. read more

On our last night in London, we wanted to end the trip with fish and chips. We saw Jack The Chipper when we were on the Jack The Ripper tour and it stuck with us, plus the reviews were good. The service was the best and they really treated us Texans with love. The fish and chips were on point and the beer was good too. One of the highlights of the trip! read more

As the locals say, it's "proper" fish and chips. Even before ordering, I figured it would be good because of the line of people waiting outside. Menu is pretty simple -- various types of fried fish and chips. Options for adding curry sauce or sides like mushy peas (this was good by the way). The fish was tasty. Good flavor, crispy, and light. Good choice for this classic English entree. read more

My first impressions of this place when we walked in were good. It looked like a cute diner and there was a fun energy to the place. The staff looked like they were close and there was even a picture with all of their faces painted on it like a family, so it definitely made me feel at home. The service was great and the staff were flexible! I went with my family and the waitresses we had were very accommodating for us. My only issue with the place was the food. I ordered the Cod Fish and Chips, and the fry on it was perfect and crisp - but there wasn't much seasoning to the chips (fries) or the fish, and it was a bit bland. I also tried the 1/2 Fresh Roast Chicken, and the gravy and chicken were good, but just once again bland and a little dry. The traditional English Breakfast was decent but same problem as the other two, just a bit bland. This place has a lot of potential, but just is a bit bland for my taste. read more

If you're looking for the best fish and chips anywhere, Jack the Ripper is it! We first found this gem 3 years ago near the Tower of London and were thrilled to return--even after their move, the food and seating are still top-notch. The customer service is outstanding. Ali, possibly the kindest server ever, even gave my wife a free umbrella when it started raining. We'll always come back and recommend it to everyone we know! read more

We ordered cod and chips 2x, wings and chips, ribeye steak with a side is shrimp scampi. Was going to try the salmon pasta but they didn't have anymore. The cod is good, not more nor less than of the competition Poppies. This place gives you extra tartar sauce & ketchup. They gave me extra chips because I asked for extra crispy but did served as normal and not extra crispy. The cod is nicely fried and crispy on the outside and very tender moist on the inside. Same bland flavor. It could use some salt on the batter to up the taste. It's better with salt, more tartar sauce and a splash of vinegar. The chicken wings and chips... it just OK. Mildly flavored and good thing it is crispy or we'll be totally disappointed. The ribeye is thin, good grilled flavor, not strong but good enough. Came with mushrooms and grilled tomatoes. The scampi was a disappointment, perfect definition if the word shrimp, very small and if it's not battered, even disappointing. Good enough to be eaten, we did since we're very hungry. No alcohol pairing since the license stopped at 10pm. Just paired my cod with a cream soda, steak with coke, chicken with Coke Zero. read more

I was never a fan of fish and chips but once I tried this place it was actually pretty good. The place is like a diner. We ordered the cod fish and chips as well as the jellied eel for kicks. The fish was battered lightly which I liked. The jellied eel was surprisingly edible. It wasn't bad at all it just looked weird as I think it should be. The service was great of course. read more

Our first meal since arriving in London, Jack the Chipper was a friendly and welcoming diner style restaurant. Their food was pretty good and fairly priced, but I wouldn't say it was anything extraordinary. They did a good job with the classics. read more
