We hired Jack for a magic show to celebrate Grandparents Day at our senior living community. To begin, he was extremely unprofessional and abrasive when informed of our mask policy. He refused to discuss the topic and threatened to leave right before the show started. If I had any other alternative, I would have let him leave. He let his personal opinions and beliefs about COVID be known loudly and wouldn't compromise at all. He was rude and agitated when it could have been a simple conversation. If you have any COVID or mask regulations, (like we do as a senior community), do not hire. The show itself was mediocre and only consisted of slight of hand card tricks. He reprimanded and kicked out the children in the audience even though they weren't acting inappropriately. He was well aware there would be children there since he was hired for a show for Grandparents Day. His unprofessionalism alone is enough to never hire him again, let alone his political rants. I've never rated anyone less than 5 stars on Yelp. We saw Jack at a retirement home. In a room full of senior citizens, there were about 6 children, all under the age of 6. He reprimanded them even before the show began for being loud. There was not one child that was yelling or acting inappropriately. About 15 min into the show, 5 of the 6 children left due to being reprimanded. The last one (6th child) said they were "kicked out" when we saw them outside. This was sad, as this magician had been hired for the Grandparent's Day celebration at the retirement home, and the only grandchildren that were there were pretty much felt unwelcome and had to leave. We left just because the magic was tedious and lame. I don't know how he got these 5 star reviews. Maybe he was having a bad day? I've hired Jack for the past five years to perform at a fraternity reunion party, and every year he's been absolutely amazing. Because all fraternities suck to some extent, Jack often has to deal with drunk idiots during his show. Luckily, he's somehow just as good at crowd control as he is at magic - I've never seen someone so adeptly get a rowdy room to shut up while still being so incredibly charming. Has cards, will travel. I met Jack on a party boat on a weekend brunch cruise and he was nice enough to give my party a free 10 minute comedy magic show. Mostly card tricks but he had two amazing egg related tricks that baffled me to this day! (And I watched closely!) So impressed with this demo, I decided to hire him to surprise a dinner party I threw with a magic show and needed him to show up two days after I contacted him for a quote on the event. He was able to come down with such short notice and had some new tricks in his routine more suited to our event, but still brought the impromptu comedic wit with him as well. Overall, the experience was exactly what you need in life from time to time. Don't we all get so caught up in our responsibilities and routines that even our entertainment options seem ordinary or routine... I was so happy to bump into him and have him give the party such a spectacular show. None of us had anything like this happen "randomly" and its now a moment that we recall and laugh about together when we gather again for other engagements. I had the pleasure of seeing Jack Velour twice in a short span of time (a few months apart) The first time was at a nieces birthday party. He did an amazing job at keeping the children entertained and an even better job of keeping the adults entertained. At the birthday party for the children there were some little skeptics (one knows how children can be) and he was sure to handle them with grace and in the end put them in awe. My wife and I hired Jack Velour for our wedding cocktail hour this past weekend. He exceeded all expectations! Amazing experience with him.
