On our way home last night, on foot of a recommendation, my family and I decided to visit Jack White's. From the minute we arrived the staff were rude and unfriendly. When we entered the place seemed very dirty (walls and carpet) and there were very unpleasant smells emanating from the kitchen area. The staff were very curt with us and made no effort to find us a table. However, we spotted one ourselves that had been recently vacated and asked, politely, could we have that? A very surly waitress then came over to clean the table which was covered in jelly. She gave two thirds of it a cursory wipe. as she was starting to walk away, we pointed out, again politely, that the rest of the table still had dirt on it she turned round and barked volubly that she knew it was and she was going to wipe it! She then roughly wiped it, flicking food particles onto my youngest son. At this point I went quickly to find the gents. I was looking around for them and happened to glance up the corridor leading to the kitchens. A waiter spun around and backed me out very aggressivlely, forcing me to walk backwards and nearly trip over a bar stool. He then leant into my face and said in unfriendly and intimidating tones "the toilet's are over there, buddy". When I returned to our tables the waitress had also returned with the menus. She slapped them down on the table and said very aggressively, and very loudly that the children's menus were for under twelves. Our two sons are 11and 9, but they often order off adult menus anyway. However, before we could even look at the menu, she turned around and pointed angrily at our nine year old and said "I'm only serving HIM from the kids menu". We were very embarrassed because other customers started looking at us as if we were trying to "pull a fast one" or defraud the place. We hadn't even looked at the menu. I pointed out that my other son was only 11 too. She walked away, but on an afterthought returned and again shouted at us "the kids menu is for under twelves only, You can only order for HIM on it". Again, we hadn't ordered or even looked at the menu yet. However, I was annoyed and embarassed as we were being made unfairly and unnecessarily to look like liars when we hadn't even ordered and this time I said to her firmly, "my other son is 11." she threw her hands up and shouted "fine then" and stormed off. At that point we decided to leave. I have rarely come across such universally rude, unprofessional, and unwelcoming staff anywhere else in Ireland in my whole life. read more
