This place has very poor customer service. We were standing in line, waiting patiently to place our order, when someone walked up to one of the servers and asked if they could just buy a couple of bottles of water. Even though I was next in line, the cashier helped him first. I told the cashier that I was next, but she replied that his order was quick. I explained that it didn't matter because I had been waiting in line and my order was quick too--I was only buying an ice cream for my child. She was rude, seemed to not care that we had waited our turn, and acted like it was perfectly acceptable to let someone cut in line. It was disappointing and disrespectful. Such a disappointment!! I have been a fan of both Jacks and Dwight's for almost 50 years. Because Dwight's is still closed I stopped by here a few weeks ago craving "Strips & Cheese" The girl at the counter told me they were out of cheese. WHAT!! That's a first for me! OK so not cheese so I guess no Strips and Cheese! The girl at the counter was clueless, I even asked her if the owner was in and she said no, then I asked if the owner was aware that they didn't have any cheese because I have met the owner several times and I know that he would fix this situation right away. The girl at the counter just shrugged her shoulders and said nothing. Yesterday, the wife and kids went to the beach and again we stoped in for some strips. There was no line to order but there were 5 or 6 unhappy people waiting for their food. 25 minutes later we got our food while we watched a girl texting on her phone while food sat under the heat lamps. I asked the girl for an extra strips sauce and some BBQ sauce for my kids chicken fingers. The girl brought me a cup of salsa, like she filled up a Coca-Cola cup to the rim with the dipping sauce and then said they were out of barbecue sauce and all they had left was one side of ranch. Me and another customer looked at each other and then started talking about how bad the service. That other customer told me that Jack's lost their lease and that this was the last summer that this place was going to be here. I asked the employee about it and she confirmed it. It's kinda like this place it's just going downhill because why offer good service when the restaurants is closing in a few weeks. The whole situation was very sad because I remember old man Dwight, his son Jack who is now I think 90 years old is someone I've known since I was literally like five years old and then watching his son and his grandson run this particular store and now watching it fall apart again makes me kind of sad . My family of six rented single bikes from this shop and it was a frustrating experience from start to finish. The cruiser bikes were old, poorly maintained, and in some cases, defective--definitely not safe for rental. They also didn't have enough functioning helmets, and when we raised concerns, we were told, "As long as you're not biking fast, you should be fine." Be very careful with the rental timing. Although we didn't leave the store until 15 minutes after the time noted on our receipt (due to figuring out how to use their faulty bikes), they began charging us from the moment I signed the form, not when we actually left. The staff didn't explain how the contract or billing worked and just said, "We'll settle when you come back." We returned the bikes after 80 minutes and were charged $187 + tax, because they bill for a full day once you go past one hour. There's no grace period even though the bikes were difficult to ride and in poor condition - riding them for over an hour wouldn't be enjoyable anyway. Learn from my mistake: don't rent bikes near the beach, especially from this business. If I could do it again, I'd rent farther from the beachfront, carefully review the rental terms, and confirm the exact start time before signing anything. read more

Have been here twice now and it is my go-to spot at Huntington Beach for lunch! Food is super fresh. I got the cheeseburger which was cooked perfectly with fresh veggies and condiments! My fiancé got the chicken tenders and fries which came with one of the best homemade ranches I've had for dipping. Service was fast and friendly so we could get back to swimming and hanging out at the beach. The area was clean and well kept and stocked with all the condiments you would need for whatever you decide to order. Great stop for a quick bite without having to leave the beach. A burger sounded great, but I'm always so apprehensive when ordering from places I haven't been. They can be the worst. I decided to go for it as well as ordering some chicken strips and fries. We also ordered a fountain drink and a root beer float. Service was good and of course other on the beach so vibe is always pretty chill. Downside was the root beer float prices are nuts. My daughter bought her own and was charged $7 for a small drink size. When I walked up a bit later and ordered ours with food they charged the same price but we got a very large cup. Stopped here on a bike ride and I must say the employees are super nice and helpful but the food is just so-so. My husband said the hamburger was way over cooked so it was just meh. I got the strips and cheese which were piled Mike high with cheese so a little hard to eat but they were tasty with the sauce. Came out to do a surrey ride this weekend. We opted for a double seater surrey to fit our party of 6. We did it for about an hour and only paid 35$. The surrey itself didn't have a horn or chime that worked so we had to yell that we were coming through which wasn't a problem. The pedals on the back right of the blue double we had felt like they weren't working at times or that you were falling off the side. Overall we had a pretty good time cycling and getting our exercise in for the day. I would recommend doing this activity with friends or family. The food on the other hand -- the shaved ice was not up to par. The ice itself tasted really bad like watered down and no syrupy flavor and the spoons we were given were dusty and dirty. Very much a disappointment. We also purchased the chicken tenders and they were also very greasy. If you're thirsty, definitely purchase a fountain drink but maybe skip the tenders and shaved ice because it was a waste of money. read more

I came here and got a single surrey rental for $25. You pay per hour. I rode for one hour. You pay at the end of your ride and they hold onto your license. I'm a little under 5'3" and had a little bit of difficulty reaching the pedals on the surrey. A single surrey fits 2 people. They also have surreys that fit 4-8 people. Bike rentals are $10. They also let you rent balls, boogie boards, and much more. They sell towels as well. The concession also sells food. They're known for cheese strips. They open until 5PM. The location is great because it's right across from the busy and popular Pacific City shopping center. There's street metered parking or parking in a parking lot for $15. read more

The seating is ample here and the customer service is fast and efficient. The location is really good (in the middle of the beach) so I guess they have the ability to charge higher prices since all we ordered was some ice cream (Dippin' Dots) and it was $7!! PLEASE READ IF YOUR'RE CONSIDERING A DOUBLE SURREY: We had 4 adults for a double surrey. We thought it'd be easier than two single surreys because it's more people working together right? No. We pedaled pretty hard and the single surreys would pass us up easily, while we're exerting 110% energy into pedaling. I guess it should be noted that one person who was 4'10" had a hard time reaching the pedals (I'm 5'1 and was kinda fine), so it was more like 3 people pedaling the weight of 4. Regardless, I kid you not, I did the math. We traveled at an average speed of 2.3 mph while literally pedaling our hearts out. Please note that in the one hour we had, we barely made it back on time after the round trip to the river border. Please do not go there unless you rented for more than 1 hour, or else you're gonna have to literally pedal to death while you watch bikers and joggers pass you by. In addition, the only reason we made it back on time to avoid the $50 fee if you return it after closing, is that three people got off and pushed the surrey while the main biker pedaled at an egregious speed. That got tiring really quickly as one of the people who pushed and ran. So the two people in the back got off and we had just the two people pedaling in the front and that made the ride significantly easier, but still hard as hell. We moved faster but not faster than the single surreys, bikers, or joggers. Side note, the bell doesn't work but that's okay. All in all, the customer service was good, pretty friendly. The surrey was relatively clean. For speed I'd recommend a bike instead of a surrey, but the single surreys seem to move much much much faster than us. Which is wild. I wouldn't recommend the double surrey unless you want a really really slow more chill ride. But don't expect slow to mean less effort. It's gonna be a lot of work AND also slow as hell. We went 2.3 MPH pedaling like our lives depended on it (because of the $50 fee). None of this is really the rental's fault, we had to exert all this energy because we went too far. We think it was a 5 mile round trip (the guy said we can only go from the pier to the bridge where the river was, so naturally, we went to the pier and to the river lol. As long as you stay close it should be fine, but just know that the double surrey is excruciatingly slow. it's like speed walking but 1000x the effort. read more

You're at Huntington Beach and you're tired from a day's worth of surfing, body-boarding, swimming, reading, or even from all those exercised calories from flipping whilst sun bathing...suddenly, you're stomach starts to grumble. Main Street is only a walk away, but for some reason, when you think about trudging through the sand..it seems like miles. BUT!!! don't overlook Jack's Stand so quickly! Located to the left of the pier (if you're facing the ocean), it is uber convenient for anyone who decides to hang out on the beach in that area. They carry a variety of beach food including pretzels, hot dogs, soda, ice-cream, chicken tenders, and most importantly CHEESE FRIES. These fries are seriously unlike any other. Made to order, these are crinkle cut fries with a handful of cheddar cheese sprinkled over it. Write after you retrieve them from the take-out window you encounter a condiment stand where any amount of cold ketchup can be added to your piping hot fries. These fries are always served in a brown carry out tray and is put in two disposable fry containers. There is a reason for this!!! Besides having an extra layer for the oil to soak through, it is recommended to take the top container and flip the fries into the second. After you do so, the first container will be free to be used as a cover for your cheese fries...accelerating the melting rate of your cheese. Take this tray with your covered fries and take a short stroll back to your previous seating area. The cheese will be melted to perfection and will be ready to be enjoyed! This review would've been a lot lower if it wasn't for the food and the plesant service I received while renting a bike cruiser. I've been to Jack's twice. The first time to rent a beach cruiser. When I came, it was $7/hr to rent a beach cruiser but they're very lenient on the time. I believe we got back 20 minutes after an hour and the guy was cool with it. The second time I came here was to grab a bite to eat after a day of tanning. My boyfriend and I placed our orders and the girl behind the counter just couldn't get it right. After confirming our orders for the 10th time, we paid. When we got our food, they didn't give us everything that we ordered. Apparently they took our orders wrong. No apology AND we had to get back in line again. Come on, it's not so hard to take someone's order I assume? Besides that ordeal, the food was actually good. The chili cheese fries were amazing!! The only think I was disappointed in was the fried burrito. It seems like they are using a different brand that is not as tasty and crispy.
