I just finished consuming an $8 pulled pork grilled cheese sandwich and I was let down. The title of the sandwich already gives you the impression that you're going to be eating a delicious Gouda gooey soft pulled pork delight. BUT it's not. It's very average. The cheese was a basic sliced thing that didn't really melt with the bread and the pork. Although there was a nice sweet flavor from the pork it wasn't enough to compensate for the lack of cheese. And I overpaid for something I could have done myself. I suggest trying another dish or verbally request that the sandwich be done better. read more

Mmmm... these guys can make a MEAN pulled pork grilled cheese sandwich! They put a ton of juicy, smokey pork on there, as well as smokey gouda. The bread is also buttery and perfect. The main reason I am giving them three stars is because they forgot the BBQ sauce on the side, which would have completed it. Also, the prices are pretty high ($8 for my sandwich!) and the wait was horrible (45+ minutes in line). I also got Cajun fries on the side. They have a very nice kick and flavor. Anyway, I definitely recommend trying Jack's out if you have plenty of time and money. read more

Jack's Chowhound catered a fourth of July boat party my friends and I put together. We couldn't get enough of the pulled pork sandwiches...I think I had three that day! After a few drinks I was eating layers of pulled pork and potato salad in a cup and called it a Texas Parfait ha ha. We will definitely order from here again. Is it possible to fall in love with a food truck? You will probably see me glued lovingly to the side of the truck whispering sweet nothings and what not. I love this truck. The pulled pork grilled cheese was amazing. The meatball sliders were even better. The meatballs were perfect and fit snugly on a Hawaiian roll with a little bit o' cheese. The menu included burgers and portobello burgers, steak fritte, pepperoni eggrolls, Cajun fries and more. The folks operating the truck were super nice and really asked a lot of questions regarding locations, and what brings you to their truck. They are really trying to please their public. I've hit three of the four trucks I'm aware of, and this one by far is my favorite. Here's why--I like plain cowboy food. Most food trucks have some fusion of Asian and tortilla going on. This place is busy fusing my meat with cheese in a Texas sort of way. I can take my meat and tater friends to this truck without having to explain what diakon and kimchee are. Don't get me wrong. I love pickled diakon on my banh mi and caramelized kimchee on my tacos, but it's hard to convince someone who's raised on home cooking that they really want sour cabbage and pickled radish on their tacos. Food for the common man served with uncommon quality! I'm all about that. And it rolls up to my hood. How SWEET is that?! read more

I wanted to LOVE Jack's. It has some serious potential. Here's what I mean: We tried Jack's as part of the Food Truck Experience happening every Wednesday evening for the next month, located at Sigel's off Greenville & Lovers. I was all too excited about the Pulled Pork Grilled Cheese sandwich. I expected a cheesy, gooey, messy sandwich that when ripped apart would ooze cheese from all sides. Instead, I got a pulled pork sandwich loaded with too much pulled pork and a single thin slice of gouda. The bread - thick toasted slices of Texas Toast - held up nicely, and I even let it sit for a minute to see if the cheese would melt. It was still very good; just not what I had pictured when I read "grilled cheese." Jack's, I recommend putting less pulled pork and more cheese on your grilled cheese sandwiches - and melting the cheese before handing it over. Otherwise, you can't taste it :( read more

Tried them at UT Arlington during homecoming, it was closer to the end of the night, and someone from Jack's was trying to get rid of cupcakes...WHAT? ME ME ME ME!!! but seriously, she must've handed out at least two trays of the caramel cupcakes. I'm not a big sweets fan, but that was daaang good. I thought, "oh this is what caramel truly tastes like... what have I been eating my whole life?". Free awesome cupcakes is the best way to stick your name in the consumer's head. This is a pretty good food truck. I've had my fair share of them, in multiple cities. I enjoyed the pulled pork grilled cheese. It was well-made and well-balanced. The flavors were tasty and pleasing together. The owner was very pleasant to talk to and quite nice. It took quite a while to order and then to get our food. I'm not really sure why...they weren't that busy. I also found the prices to be a bit high for the portion I received. $9 for a grilled cheese with pulled pork - no sides or toppings. It was a pretty small sandwich. I support food trucks, but it's supposed to be cheaper than eating out at a sit-down, not more expensive! Still, the food was good. Jack's came by our office today (7/31/13) and I came away extremely disappointed. For starters, the wait to order was ridiculous. I was 29th in line and it literally took more than 30 minutes to get to the front to order -- just to order. Tack on another 15 minutes just to get the food, which was the veggie burger. I can tolerate a wait for good food truck food. But this was not good food truck food. I've had way better much quicker. The bun was soggy as can be and the patty was basically just a greasy portabella mushroom top. Not a veggie burger patty, just a mushroom top with greasy onions. Had to throw most of it out because of the soggy bun and chewy "patty." Safe to say they won't be getting my money ever again. read more

I get its really hot outside, and they had just opened, but I'm a stickler for customer service. I guess I just got spoiled at Nammi where both of the owners were so so so sweet, asked questions and really seemed to appreciate their customers. I just wanna be appreciated DAMNIT! Onto the food... I did have to drive mine all the way back to North Dallas, so I didn't deduct a star for the wimpy cajun fries, they looked crisp and right out of the fryer when they handed me it initially. I will assume had I consumed them right away they would have been on point. The pulled pork grilled cheese was missing something, maybe more cheese, maybe pickles (mm pickles), maybe more bbq sauce- infact I think it was missing all those. It wasn't bad by any means, and I devoured it happily with some mustard (I know, I'm weird) but for an 8 dollar sandwich that seems to be the darling of their menu, I was just expecting more. I feel bad giving them only 3 stars because I am so pumped about the food truck movement here in Dallas. The food was good, above average even, but something missed the mark for me. All I can say is their pulled pork grilled cheese is amazing! We first tried Jack's at the Food Truck Festival held at Valley View and again at Taste of Dallas. To those that complain there is not enough cheese and too much pork: it's a matter of opinion. We loved having so much pork on the sammich, the cheese was melty-gooey, and the thick Texas toast held it together well. Wish I could give zero stars. Never got food. This truck was at the Dallas Arboretum concert. Wait times to order were almost 30 min. They were out of fries, hot dogs, hamburgers, and bacon. Wifey had their signature pulled pork grilled cheese while I had the meatball sliders. Both were extremely tasty. I personally was ok with the meat to cheese ratio on the pork grilled cheese. I think I'd prefer a slightly less sweet bun for the meatball sliders, but that's my own personal taste. Today was my first visit to Jack's for lunch and I had the Steak Frites. It was DELISH! And I'm not even a big fry person. Although they looked soggy, my first bite right out of the truck was crunchy and tasted of yummy steak juice. Now, I did walk back to the office before devouring the innards of my styrofoam plate but it was still good, even after it started to get cold. Anyway, the tenderloin was beautifully medium rare, though the heat from the fries continued to cook it to medium. The fries were supposed to be garlic parmesan but the steak juice kinda drowned that out a bit. Every so often I would get a tasty bite of the garlic parmesan, and it was GOOD! So, maybe next time I'll ask for an extra shake of the cheese. I should be concerned that I could see the fat that would slowly clog my arteries, but my taste buds won me over. I would definitely get that again! read more

Well, my opinion might be a little off since I have only tried one item. The Steak Frites was disappointing on the day that I had tried it. It was a generous portion at $9. Perhaps it was because they were pretty busy, but when I got my Steak Frites, I would say it was cooked kind of rare. I never specified and it's a good thing I don't mind Rare Steak. On top of that though, everything was way over-salted. I LOVE SALT. I even salt my bacon. So if I think it's too much salt, then it was. The french fries were subpar also. read more

Just had an awesome Portobello Burger and Cajun fries from their food truck. Really nice guys, and top quality food (for a truck...). The mushroom cap was HUGE, perfectly cooked, and the veggies were all crazy crispy. Fries were good (portioned a little small), and a friend let me try her Sweet & Spicy rubbed fries which I'll definitely try next time. I have eaten at this food truck several times and not once have I been disappointed!! The pulled pork is simply the best around!! My kids ate the hot dogs and my husband had the fried bologna topped with an egg and enjoyed it very much!! They have really sweet help on their truck too!! So not just Jacks but all of these Dallas food trucks need to get a handle on the time it takes to make food in a "food truck" timely manner. I just waited over 25 minutes AFTER ordering for a pulled pork grilled cheese which just seems WRONG! I wouldn't expect to wait over 10 min. after ordering. Some will say "then don't go" and that is fine because I won't. I am just looking out for all of those other people to approve what is a fantastic thing for Dallas just could be improved. read more

I think any new business deserves a chance to improve and can be very successful. People on my floor are eating and enjoying many things. I got the parmesan fries - but I think they need a little help. They seem to be fried, then reheated - not a good idea. People like fresh french fries. And bigger portions - even if you raise the price .50. Having the truck right at the door is a wonderful convenience and the servers were great - just work on those fries a little, Jack! :-) read more
