I've been to this food truck at the Sigel's food truck festival, Murphy Maize, and at the Walgreens in Mesquite. It's such a cute trailer in cotton candy pink and blue, and has a very retro look to it. I've tried all of their fruit pies, and there was not one I didn't like. They are made to order so they come out piping hot. The outer crust was fried to perfection, crispy and flaky. The fillings were sweet enough for me and tasted good. They had fried pumpkin at the Murphy Maize and I loved it. I bought one of each pie and brought it home to my family. They devoured them in a matter of seconds. I haven't had the fried bologna sandwich yet, but will try it next time. I did try the fried guacamole once, and it tasted good. I didn't even dip it in the side of salsa that it came with because I liked the way it tasted. The people running this food truck are very sweet and easy to talk to . Paid them a visit at Walgreens in Mesquite. Tried apple,cherry,apricot, and peach pies. They were all great. She does not fry them up until you order so they are fresh and the crust still has a nice crunch to it that I loved. The fillings were all delicious and not overly sweet, as can sometimes happen with fried pies. The fried guac was great! Homemade guac wrapped in crust and deep fried. I am glad I got two orders as it was a big hit at the house. The trailer is very cute, and I like them playing the old songs and TV themes. It all led to a very nice experience. I was teetering on if this was a four or five star visit-but the couple who own the business were just so nice and pleasant to be around that I had to go with five stars. They were very friendly and really liked talking about the business(which they clearly love). I was disappointed that I wasn't going to be in Deep Ellum the next night as they were going to do fried bologna sandwiches. In summary, The Bomb Fired pies are, well, the bomb! read more

I have been hearing about a lot about the fried guacamole, so I was super excited when I got to the truck and there was no line! I thought there was nothing between those smashed avocados and my mandibles, and I was going to get my hands on some instantly. But half of Dallas had the same idea, and the line was only nonexistent because they turned people away temporarily to catch up with the orders. I waited for about an hour before I could even place my order, but let me tell you that hour-long wait was completely worth it. The fried guac was good, but it just tasted like as if I took a tortilla chip fresh from the fryer, piled up with guacamole and drizzled with homemade salsa--in other words, there was no "wow" factor to it other than the fact that it was fried. On the other hand, the fried fruit pies were completely overshadowed by its savory counterpart. I also ordered a peach pie, and I let my three friends sample some. We were all fighting for a bite because it was THAT good. The filling was not too sugary, and the peaches were fresh and soft. The crust's where it's all, though. It was flaky and buttery and melted in our mouths. I hope that the owners would take a lesson from Whiffie's Fried Pies from Portland and start doing savoury pies with meats and tofu. We bought a fried apple pie from The Bomb while at the Real Texas Festival at the Mesquite Rodeo. The texture was great -- not too doughy, perfectly flaky and golden with a good but not excessive amount of grease on the paper wrapper. The taste could use a little work, though. It wasn't quite sweet enough -- even my boyfriend, who was born without a sweet tooth, said that the better bites were those with more powdered sugar. It definitely needed a little more sweetness to balance out the tartness of the apples. Other than that, though, the technique is clearly perfect! And for $2 a pie, hey, it's worth trying. I might suggest trying one of the more exotic flavors (apricot, anyone?) to see how those fare. The apple one was just a bit boring. read more

I tried the fried guacamole while waiting at a carwash one day. I was surprised at how amazingly fresh and homemade the guacamole was, and it was served with a perfect little side of salsa. The outer crust was beyond perfection. I am definitely going to be stopping by this trailer next time I spot it around town! read more
