This is an easy 5. I can't get this in California. I can't make it any better. Actually, I don't do smoked wings very well, so Pecan Lodge has me beat. The wings were as good as can be. Subtle & distinct rub. Very crisp but juicy. Nice smoke. 4 excellent sauces if you want them. The Dino beef rib was perfect. Salt & pepper infused. Moist with right texture, not fall off the bone, some gentle pull, but bendy...which is the best way in my opinion . Likewise for the brisket! The sides were perfect, the crisp slaw was tangy & not drowning in sauce. The potato salad was infused with scallions. Also right amount of dressing. Well seasoned. The biggest compliment: you really need no sauces for the meat. Thats what great BBQ should be. Maybe small dabs intermittently. Mind you, the sauces are awesome, but I preferred vinegar for beef & blue cheese for wings. Again: sparingly, letting the meat shine. If I have to critique a 5 star: maybe have a heat lamp. Because even the best brisket can get dry if you linger. Out of 4 big pieces, half a piece got a bit dry, but the rest stayed succulent. Ha ha. Nice staff. Nice guests during the football World Cup. You order & get from counter. $135 for 1.5 lbs beef ribs, 0.5lbs brisket, 12 wings, pint slaw, pint potato salad, & soft drink. My son & me splurged, very happy happy.

Fantastic BBQ place and great service. Come here before the lines get long. Arrived at 10:30 on a Friday so not bad for the lines. Family oriented and great time to spend with friends. There's TVs to watch the games.

So when you look up best bbq. This comes up. We love Terry Blacks. We are not Texas natives. But the reviews did not disappoint!!! Beef ribs were sold out. We got pork ribs brisket, jalapeño sausage. Meat was fall off the bone. I mean so tender it falls apart on touch. Use your fingers to grab because it's slippery. You don't need sauce!! Collards ----- wow Okra good but I'm biased-- my mom makes fierce okra Bartender Emily amazing!! Blackberry mango margarita was on point

Things change. People change. Tables turn. Bridges burn. Ya live & ya learned: I learned this is my fav Q spot in DFW area. I love Q, i grew up cooking on charcoal Websters, & old wood smokers filled with oak food off the coast & in the riparian hills of the Pacific. Chicken, tri tip, etc.. But THIS. IMO. PECAN LODGE IS THEE DEFINITION OF TEXAS Q. All the meat was not too rich, hardy, moist, fall apart, smoke rings & surprisingly i was astounded by the pork rib quality the most. Surprisingly not as salty as i thought especially since ima salty person. Lol Enjoy!

I've been to Pecan Lodge multiple times, and it's definitely one of the most famous BBQ spots in Dallas. Deep Ellum is also a fun area to explore, so it makes for a nice stop if you're visiting. I really enjoy their brisket and ribs, and the sides are pretty decent as well. It's not the cheapest BBQ, and I do wish the portions were a little more generous, but the flavor is solid. If you're visiting, I'd recommend showing up early. Like many famous BBQ places, the popular items can sell out pretty quickly. Parking tip: try using the parking lot under I-45 nearby.

Brisket was okay and sausage was delicious

Yes it's good BBQ but there are higher standards in Texas and this doesn't blow you away in the same way some of the greats in this State do. I came on a Tuesday night and it was pretty empty. I was alone so I got just the brisket, the jalapeno cheddar sausage, the jalapeno hominy, collard greens, and the banana pudding. The brisket was fine. Some bites were tender, juicy, nice salty balance, and other bites were dry and lacked flavor. Overall inconsistent. The sausage was pretty good as the cheese wasn't overly rich and had a nice spice to it. The collard greens were a little on the sweet side which I didn't love. The jalapeno hominy were delicious as the slight cheddar flavor with a little heat was a pleasant contrast for something that can be pretty bland by itself. The banana pudding was delicious. Not overly sweet, creamy and rich but not so heavy after a heavy main course. I like the vibe but it's fun when a BBQ place carves the slices in front of you. The service is fine. It overall looks like a fun place to go and given how they have live music, etc. it's clear that's what they're going for. But I prefer a place that's focused on its craft over vibe.

Mac and cheese, pork sausage, peach cobbler, burnet ends in the middle.

This place definitely has a good reputation, but my experience ended up being pretty middle of the road. The interior is extremely casual (almost "busted" in a sense). It feels like it's trying to lean into a rustic barbecue aesthetic, but it ends up coming across more cheap and old than intentionally charming. It's not quite the atmosphere I expected given how popular the place is. The food was a mixed bag. The burnt ends were okay, but honestly nothing special. They were fine, just not the standout I was expecting. The pork sausage was actually pretty good flavor-wise, but the casing was really tough. I had to bite down pretty hard to get through it, which was not the most pleasant experience. The mac and cheese had a tiny bit of spice to it, which I liked, but the texture was more mealy than creamy. For dessert I had the peach cobbler. It was decent, but leaned a little too granola heavy for my taste and did not quite bake together the way I expected. I was hoping for something more cohesive and gooey. Overall, it wasn't a terrible meal, but it also wasn't good... This place didn't live up to the hype at all.

Good classic BBQ. Would go again but was surprised that the reviews are as high as they are. Did not think it stuck out much compared to other BBQ places I've been Good if you just want classic BBQ. Staff was very nice and atmosphere was good.

Really enjoyed the food . Meats were cooked so well. Brisket was my fav. Mac n cheese and potato salad was really good . Collards were sweet I did not care for them.

    THREE MEAT PLATE
    Marie G.

Ordered take out and wow - it lives up to the hype. The turkey was thickly sliced. The sausage was a full piece and the pork rib was large. All were tasty and all did not taste the same- sometimes you get a three meat platter and all the meat has the same sauce on it that was not the case here each meat at its own individual flavor. The other thing I liked about the food here is that the smoke taste is not overwhelming. I have had barbecue from many places across Texas and sometimes I can't eat it because the smoke smell is so strong that I am totally turned off and don't want to eat the food. Here. It was so so mild. it was perfect.

I haven't been here in a while but was in the area so had to stop and get a to go meal. It's as delicious as i remember. The turkey was juicy and melt in your mouth the waffle fries had a brisket dusting they put on it which was perfect and the wings were smoked to perfection. Service was quick and efficient as well and even though there were many others there, that's normal, i got my food quickly.

Pecan Lodge is one of my top three BBQ spots in DFW. The price and location can't be beat. The food is fantastic, and the customer service is excellent, with staff who are friendly and attentive. Overall, a great experience and definitely worth visiting.

We heard about the famous Pecan Lodge. It was our 3rd BBQ stop during our time in Dallas. We came during lunch and it wasn't busy. We ordered beef rib, and their 3 meats combo with 1 side. The 3 meats we got were pork ribs, brisket, and turkey. I wish they would give 2 pork ribs and less turkey. There were like 4 slices of turkey and 1 pork rib. The turkey was good and so was the pork rib. The brisket was pretty dry. It was thick but dry. Their beef rib was good, more meat than others and not too much fat, however lacked some flavor. They don't give you complimentary bread, like other places. We initially got their crisscross fries and they were god awful. It was too fried to the point that it was hollow inside, we returned it but didn't expect anything else. But one of the pit masters came out to apologize and offered to replace with another side, we accepted and got their Mac and cheese which turned out to be the best Mac n cheese! Over all, compared to the other 2 places we tried, we thought pecan lodge was in 3rd mostly due to the flavors not being as strong as the other 2 we went to (Cattleack and Heims). Still good to try though! Would still recommend this on the bbq tour.

At first, I was a little hesitant because the menu is fairly small, but after my meal, I can see why. Every dish we ordered was absolutely a 10/10. I do want to start with the positives. Our waiter was fantastic. He was very attentive, explained the menu thoroughly, and provided excellent service. The food also came out incredibly fast and piping hot, which is becoming rare these days. We started with the cornbread, and it was easily a 10/10. It was worth every bit of the $12. We ordered the fried chicken, greens, shrimp fried rice, biscuits, and hot water cornbread. The fried chicken was crispy and tender, but it lacked seasoning. I'd give it a 7/10. They served it with a house hot sauce, but surprisingly it had no heat and almost no flavor. I even asked the person I was dining with if they tasted anything because it was like pouring sauce on the chicken without changing the flavor at all. The greens were just okay on their own, but once we added the vinegar they became amazing. That made me wonder why the vinegar isn't incorporated into the greens from the start. The hot water cornbread had virtually no flavor. The shrimp fried rice was cooked really well, but it had an unexpected Caribbean-style seasoning that threw me off. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't what I was expecting, and it made it hard to fully enjoy. The biscuits were probably the biggest disappointment. They were dry and hard. One thing I also noticed is that, for a family style restaurant where you're encouraged to order several dishes to share, the tables feel too small. Once all the food arrived, there wasn't much room left, and even packing up our leftovers was awkward because of the lack of space. One standout that deserves recognition was the iced tea. It had what tasted like a subtle hint of mint and was incredibly refreshing. Easy 10/10. From the cuts of chicken we received, it appears they break down and fry whole chickens, which is perfectly fine. However, at $56 for a fried chicken that lacked seasoning, I found the price hard to justify. Maybe the cooking method or oil contributes to the cost, but I expected much more flavor for that price. Overall, I'd rate my experience a 7.5/10. Would I come back? Yes. I'd be willing to give Roots another chance and try something different from the menu. But when I hear Southern food, I expect bold seasoning and comforting flavors, and that's the one area where this meal really fell short.

At around 1pm, I was one of the first to arrive at the restaurant. Unfortunately the parking is a bit confusing. There was construction being done on the same street when I went but there's a parking garage for customers that's difficult to navigate AND the elevator that connects wasn't operating at the time which was an issue for many (but not me, I got a good spot & walked). My party hadn't all arrived yet so I took a gander. Upon entering the tall doors, the space breathes southwestern elegance: wooden structure, leather seating, separate dining areas with highlighted ranch-style art. The abundance of space gives it an open-concept feel. The lighting fixtures are modern, the space was dim but not too low, with an option to utilize the large windows also. I was quiet impressed at the overall presentation. When my party did arrive, I wanted to keep it simple so I ordered the Chicken Cobb Salad and a Hibiscus Haze with Vodka. The table shmoozed as we ate some of the appetizers: the Crab Dip & Green Tomatoes, both amazing. The food did take some time but, considering it was 10-12 of us, that's expected. The Hibiscus Haze was splendid: smooth & flavorful, a great concoction. Cobb salads are usually pretty thick but this one was HEARTY. It came in a large bowl stuffed with the all the toppings. The dressing it was tossed with was well balanced but could've used a tad bit more. With some pepper & a little ranch, I was set! I defeated the salad but it also left me stuffed to the gills. Satisfying meal that I would order again! There are tons of restaurants to dine at in Dallas & sometimes you never know which is worth your time. Despite the inconvenience of parking, I'd bet my bottom dollar that this is a good place to eat. Whether you want a fine dining experience, it's a special occasion or just want a good drink with a meal, Haywire has enough to satisfy all interests.

WILL NEVER BE BACK!…read more HATED. EVERY. MOMENT. OF. THIS. PISS. POOR. EXPERIENCE. EVERY. SINGLE. MOMENT. VALET. NOT. FREE. I called before deciding where to eat on a Sunday afternoon to confirm parking situations. Parking is not easy downtown so this played a huge factor in figuring where, out of the dozens of brunch places, to eat. Definitely a bit of a walk to get accommodated at the actual restaurant so valet seemed the most reasonably enticing for parking solutions. Well, I called and spoke with the lady at the front desk. I confirmed with this little girl FOUR TIMES IF 1. They had valet available today 2. If it was complimentary. Come to find out it was not complimentary. And $7 for parking just doesn't sit well with me when there are ample free options else where with satisfying beverage, meal, ambiance, and service. All of which, I DID NOT GET AT HAYWIRE. I come in and although I had a reservation that I was 10 minutes early for while noticing tables available, I was told by that same girl who lied to me about parking I needed to take a seat. Reassuring me that it would only take two minutes to be seated. 10 minutes later I see coupled and groups walking in and guess what? They were immediately sat. While I am waiting to be sat at one of the three clean tables I'm staring at. I finally tell my boyfriend I am about to eat at the bar and he goes to the hostess stand to inform them our frustration and guess what? We were sat immediately. I get seated and there are two standing fans placed next to my table that's blowing my hair all over the f*****g place. I had to tell them to turn them off. What? No AC in this place either?? We immediately ordered and got the elk tacos for an appetizer. The tacos are WAY too spicy and way too salty. Too spicy AND too salty?? They're a no for me. You literally can't taste anything because of both! I HATED these little tacos. Probably the worst I've ever had. Ever seen someone attempt to pinch a bit of salt to season and the entire top comes off?? These tacos. My boyfriend had the chicken fried steak. He loved it (loves spicy and seasonings because he's Cajun) but I tried it and it was over seasoned. Again? Couldn't taste what I was eating. The mashed potatoes were divine. Enjoyed those! And then the green beans were tasteless. Hahaha what a joke. I ordered the barbacoa chilaquiles and it was literally too spicy to eat. Inedible. My eyes teared up, my nose started running, and I couldn't taste anything after a couple bites of the spice. I was so f*****g over this place I just ate my boyfriend's mashed potatoes and we left. If I had it my way, I wouldn't have paid for a thing here. They don't deserve our money and I HATE they got a cent from me. I'm livid. I hate this place W I L L N E V E R B E B A C K

Over the years, They have added grilled items that are quite tasty, but Ima go for the fried anything along with mashies, baked beans, etc. The chicken and dumplings are heaven on earth anytime of the year. Prices are decent, considering the economy these days. If you dine in, there's staff that are happy to help you get your grub to the table, will make sure you have butter and honey for the fluffy buns, and smile no matter how busy it gets. Leaving a buck or 2 is not expected, but a nice gesture for their efforts. Blanca sez check'em out!

Thought I would try the Chicken Livers today. I haven't had them since I was a teenager... and…read moreno... not doing the math on that one! Walked in, joined the line and placed my order. Noticed ladies working in the dining room to assure tables are clean as soon as customers leave. Once your meal is ready, they will call your name or someone will bring it to your table. Retro decor. Loved the music. Located across from SMU. You have the college crowd, residents from the neighborhood, grandparents with their grandchildren, and drive thru all buzzing with conversation. I found the chicken livers lightly battered, crispy on the outside and very tender meat on the inside. Mashed potatoes, gravy, and green beans were my sides. All tasty. Add additional seasonings and pepper sauce if you prefer. Be sure to check out the banana pudding. I requested extra meringue. Dessert was made fresh and tasted great. Pick-up, drive through, or dine in. Side note: Although there is no place for a tip when paying for your order... I always leave a tip on the table or hand it to the ladies working there. Much deserved for their hard work, friendly smiles, and pleasant attitude.
