Jack's Diner has quickly become my go to Albany diner. It's a small diner, with maybe 10 tables and some counter seating. Every time I've gone the place has been busy, but I managed to get a seat right away. Service is quick and organized. The diner is worn in but not in a shabby way; if you are very into "aesthetics" this may not be the place for you. If you are into delicious unpretentious diner food that is delicious and affordable, then get on over to Jack's! They have a Mexican menu in addition to the standard diner food. I have yet to come at dinner time but am looking forward to the day I try out their tacos! Their parking lot is tiny, but there is plenty of street parking in the area. read more

Was so excited to check this classic diner out. This diner is a dive but for me some of the best meals have been had at dives unfortunately this was not one of them. The food was OK but nothing great. The french onion soup was bland and oily. They did bring around a Mexican menu and maybe that would have been better than traditional diner food. Unfortunately, we order the more traditional meal choice. The Service though was wonderful and staff were friendly and attentive. Found this little diner just recently and gotta say I am decently impressed! If you're looking for some classic diner food for some GREAT PRICES really this is your place. On top of classic breakfast diner food they have authentic Mexican cuisine with AMAZING flavor, very unexpected for a random diner but nonetheless really worth the drive over to try it! The service there is so welcoming and the waitresses are super friendly, accommodating and fast! As well the vibe of the restaurant is just very cute, the old fashion diner vibe is always fun. Jack's is an Albany staple. It's got new managers. The food is just a little too dry for anything but a four star rating. My burger was stale and it had no toppings! No side, either... Love the waitresses! But this place has become ghetto. Nobody here says anything to anyone if they are disturbing customers. We have no lie 5 people phones turned all the way up while customers were trying to talk and eat peacefully. These places need to have a policy no volume on phones. read more

While you expect a true Diner to be a bit rough around the edges and need a little TLC, Jack's Diner in Albany just felt a bit gross. Everything was sticky and seemed in poor repair, taped up signs, servers that just weren't interested in serving and food which was pretty bland. Was it passable for what it was? Sure. It seems like the last few reviews I have made have all been 5 stars. It's easy when I walk into a restaurant and they constantly exceed my expectations. Jack's diner was no exception. My wife and I were on our way to a conference in Albany and had some time for breakfast. Looking on Yelp, we found Jacks... GLAD we did! All the reviews spoke about how good the food was and somebody even mentioned the small parking lot which wound up not being an issue as we parked on the street along side he diner. I love these old style diners. As we walked in many people said hello and told us to sit where ever we wanted to. As soon as our server came over, I knew we were on for a great experience. A simple order of eggs over easy with sausages and a vegetable omelette. (see picts). This food was perfectly prepared. Vegetable omelette well done for my wife was perfect with loads of fresh vegetables and my over easy was just that... over easy. Great sausage links and wonderful potatoes. This will definitely be our new breakfast spot when we're in Albany for our Kiwanis conferences and conventions. Kudos to the team here at Jack's for serving up a great meal. read more

We stopped by Jack's Diner today for the first and were quickly greeted and seated in a corner booth. While the nostalgic diner is showing its age, it is comfortable and looks to be clean. They offer a wide selection of breakfast and lunch items; since we were there for breakfast, we chose the huevos rancheros, french toast, and a side of sausage. The huevos came with two eggs, a pinto bean chili, rice with peas and bay leaves, tortilla chips, and a side of sour cream and salsa. It wasn't fancy but it was good and the eggs were cooked to my liking: over medium. The side of sausage was two large, plump links and tasted good. The menu states it's made from homemade challah bread; it definitely is not. While good, it lacked any spices such as sugar, cinnamon, or nutmeg. Our server was extremely pleasant and helpful and checked on us a couple of times during our meal. While we had a primary server, the staff works as a team as they check on each other's tables. Good food at a reasonable price. I saw on another site that someone said the restaurant is racist. While I did not experience what that reviewer did, during my visit I observed all customers were treated equally despite varying races and ethnicities. read more

If you need a diner and can find something else, I'd suggest that. I got a turkey club with Cole slaw in the sandwich and asked for fruit instead of fries. What I got was a very light serving of turkey and sugary fruit from a can. Quite disappointing. Service was also quite slow and inattentive as they were not busy at all. I walked in alone this morning looking for a great breakfast. I found the place not busy and plenty of seats at the counter. I sat at the counter on a stool where I struggled to figure out where to put my feet. After sitting there for 5 minutes with two servers standing and chatting with another patron 5 feet away, no "good morning", no "hello", no "I'll be right with you," I got up and left. Apparently, the staff is not eager to serve or earn their living. I think I'll give Gateway Diner my money instead (review to follow). read more

They were very well seasoned and had the right amount of crunchiness but smooth potato interior. The omelette itself was good but it was more vegetable than egg. It's an old school diner with a tiny parking lot on the outside, it's quite comfortable inside. The service was incredible, food was ready pretty fast and the staff was very friendly. The food was absolutely outstanding, I'm depressed at how many other diners we tried before this one. I had corned beef hash, scrambled eggs, hime fries and toast. The hash was fresh and the crisp on everything was perfect. My wife had French toast, eggs and bacon ordered well done ( I love her but she is very particular) it was outstanding. She loved it.
