Haven't been here in a few years, decided to try it since we were in the neighborhood. This place is a sleeper for sure with some really good food. The burger was cooked to perfection and so much more tasty than other places I've gone the service was good with glasses of soda that were filled as soon as they needed it. This restaurant has been around for a long time and is very plain & simple inside. This is a "locals" place, workers know where to stop and grab a bite. Mike's Diner is a warm and friendly restaurant with pretty good food. We heard positive things about this place from friends and swung by one Saturday afternoon for a bite. The staff greeted is upon entering, and we sat down pretty quickly. The diner was clean and has a warm old school local vibe. The menu had a bunch of options, without being overwhelming. Honestly, it's nice to see that now and again compared to those massive six-page diner menus that have me choice locked for 20 minutes. I was craving my usual diner meal, which is often a Greek Chicken Wrap or a Mushroom Swiss Burger. They had a Greek roast beef wrap on the menu, and also a Greek Chicken salad with tzatziki, so I asked to combine the salad into a wrap with added kalamata olives and feta cheese. The food came out very quickly, fries still hot on the plate, with an extra side of tzatziki. I quickly spread it on the wrap and was delighted to see that it was thick and flavorful with dill and garlic notes. There's nothing worse than flavorless runny tzatziki, and Mike's did not disappoint. The chicken was cooked perfectly, still hot and juicy, with oregano, garlic, salt, and pepper. It'll came together beautifully in the wrap alongside the lettuce, tomato, onion, feta cheese, and kalamata olives. Overall a good experience eating here for the first time. I would definitely come back and recommend everyone check it out. read more

1:45 pm restaurant was not overwhelmed. Waitstaff is welcoming & we were seated right away. Tracy is our waitress. Served drinks right away & got us silver ware too. I was underwhelmed by this meal. There were 4 slices of banana total on both "sandwiches". (If I were making it I would at least use 1/2 -1 banana so it would taste like it's named). The sausage was brown on one side only. The kitchen didn't communicate with the waitstaff about running out of biscuits so my hubby had to change his order. Coffee needs sweetness added. Here's the silver lining ladies: our bathroom is closer than the men's room! Now they take credit cards, they used to only take cash. There's always got to be something good. read more

not a frequent stop for me but periodically for breakfast or lunch. On a recent trip, I noticed that the menu had changed somewhat in specifically something I liked for breakfast, buckwheat pancakes, that you can't get anywhere else was no longer on the menu.. I suspect there has been a change in ownership as the wait staff I was used to seeing were not there. I ordered a veggie burger with cheese. Do you know how something small can just turn you off? Normally when you order a burger, meat, or veggie, it will come out with a slice of cheese on top to make it appetizing. My veggie burger came out with. Shredded yellow cheese, the kind that was that you would put on a salad bar, for example. A cheeseburger should have a slice of And it didn't look like a cheeseburger should look and also there was not taste of cheese. taste of cheese. I stayed in town for two weeks and ate here almost everyday !! The food is amazing and the employees are as friendly as someone you've known your entire life! Quick service, great location, and good tunes on the radio! The staff Karen, Brenda, Linda, Casey, and Jazmine are phenomenal!!! Mike's used to be the best. I was surprised they weren't busy at 10:00 am on Saturday morning, it should have been my first clue, now I know why. Today unfortunately I found they're under new ownership. I and two other people went for breakfast, simple orders, pancakes, a side of fruit, a basic omelette. a broccoli cheese omelette with a side of bacon with two sodas. The bill was close to $70. That's not the worst. I had a simple request, please make my omelet breakfast dry and dark, no big deal, no oil, no butter and a little bit of extra cooking. I received a a yellow grease laden grease dripping off omelette, white greasy hash browns and warm buttered bread as toast. The waitress was great. She took it back, "fixed it", but nothing was really fixed except I had different pieces warm bread "toast" without butter. I tried to soak the grease off everything, it didn't work, I couldn't eat it. Sorry, I won't be going back. The good news... The extremely expensive pancakes were okay per the 10 year old. Great little diner! I didn't expect it to be half as good as it was. The menu is large and there are daily specials. Open for breakfast and lunch (they close at 3pm)...special options included sweet potato waffles and a breakfast burrito. I went for the breakfast burrito and had it without any meat plus veggies and cheese. (You can choose whatever combination of ingredients you want). Had a side of home fries (which can be put inside the burrito if you prefer). Delicious and satisfying. My companion had the gyro platter and really enjoyed it. Food was served piping hot and the service was friendly. Would absolutely go back. read more

I saw reviews on this place and finally decided to try it. Very happy we did. We were warmly greeted by Brenda who also became our server. She is a very pleasant and attentive person. Hubby ordered the Eggs Benedict and I ordered the Combination Breakfast with a choice of pancakes or French Toast, I went with the French Toast (great choice). We had a bit of a wait for the food, but it was well worth it. Eggs were made perfectly to our request, the French Toast was the absolute best. Hubby said the Hollandaise was "different, but good", I forgot to taste it so taking his word for it. Overall, clean, pleasant, comfortable environment with plexiglass between each booth and a bottle of hand sanitizer on each table, kudos for the safety. Limited seating for parties over 4 or 5, but they make it work comfortably. Will definitely go back and try more of the yummy sounding items on their menu. See you there! read more

No problem with parking but came at 11a on a weekday. The coconut cream French toast is amazing! Our party also ordered burger and fries, turkey reuben, chicken fingers and Greek salad with grilled chicken, all reported to be good. Everything appeared very fresh and freshly made. My only complaint about the service was that my coffee cup sat empty til the end of the meal and that rarely happens at a diner. Reasonably priced, around $65 for 2 adults and 3 kids(2 ordered regular entrees.) Will definitely return, could eat a truckload of that coconut cream French toast. read more

We hopped off the highway in search of breakfast on our way to Syracuse and decided to try Mike's after reading a couple of newspaper reviews. We were initially worried when we were the only ones there, but the place gradually filled up with locals before long. The menu was great- so many choices and unusual offerings made it difficult to choose. I ordered an omelette filled with a ridiculous amount of ingredients, including bacon, two kinds of cheese, spinach, tomatoes..... with home fries and rye toast. My boyfriend decided on the apple and cheddar omelette. Both were delicious and served up quickly by a friendly waitress who kept our coffee mugs filled. The decor was a bit tacky, with an over abundance of faded plastic flowers inside and out. But we didn't come for the ambiance. We'll be making the same trip again next month and might just get off at the same exit to find breakfast at Mike's again. read more

I've been here for breakfast a couple times now and everything is consistently good. I really like that they have a good selection of creative breakfast items. For instance, they of course have old reliable plain French toast, but they also offer French toast with toppings such as peanut butter and banana, peanut butter and jelly, cocoa, coconut cream, and, one of my favorites, chocolate coconut almond. They also have a really good selection of pancakes and omelets. The coffee is good and so are the home fries. They always have a wide variety of baked goods on the counter, including but not limited to several different types of muffins and Danishes. The service is quick and friendly. This is hands-down my favorite diner in the Capital Region - small but in the coziest way possible, with friendly attentive staff, quick service from the kitchen, and delicious homemade food. Open 7 days a week, 700 a.m. to 300 p.m., FYI. Breakfast is always a winner: I love the Florentine Super Omelette ($9.50), and the Buckwheat Pancakes with Blueberries ($8.95), though the Eggs Benedict ($9.25) is sort of like eggs in yellow gravy - skip that. Anyway there are lots of choices, including waffles and homemade pastry, so you're sure to find something you like. Last weekend Peanut enjoyed an Eggwich with Cheese ($3.50), asking for a tomato slice (no upcharge - nice!) - egg over easy, on a toasted English Muffin, Uhmerican cheese - all perfectly prepared. She asked for a bowl of fresh fruit - they had some choices though you could only order 1 kind (weird) - the cantaloupe was nice and ripe and sweet ($4.50) - lovely. I enjoyed a Chicken Gyro ($9.50) - asking for extra tzatziki on the side (agin' no upcharge!) - lots of tender nicely marinated white meat chicken, lettuce and tomato, with just a hint of red onion in there (I would have liked more). I was told my fries would be coming - I think the oil wasn't quite hot, as I was probably the first of the day to order off the lunch menu - I appreciated that they waited until the temp was just right - these fries were hot, crispy and delicious. Sometimes there's a line at the door (the smallish parking lot is a good indicator of how busy they are) but it's worth the wait. Once seated you will never feel rushed, and I like that. I have been eating breakfast here with my daughter almost EVERY Sunday for years. I love a place that cooks the food in front of you. Now that we are regulars we get pretty good service. Not a huge fan of eating eggs over easy on a plastic plate but the food is hot quick and plentiful. The only complaint is the tiny coffee cup. Can't beat the price. This was the best diner I've been to so far in Rotterdam/Schenectady. The prices are pretty cheap with a ton of options. The food was really good. I got the blueberry pancakes, cinnamon raisin French toast, and sausage and cheese omelette. The pancakes and French toast were delicious. However, the omelette was just average. I would give this place 5 stars but the omelette, home fries, and sausage were the only downfall to the meal. Poor service. I ordered huevos rancheros and it was the most flavorless thing I've ever eaten. We asked a waitress if she could cash us out since our waitress was busy. The woman told us that only our waitress could cash us out or have us go to the front to pay it. We paid and left a tip out of courtesy but we are never going to this establishment again. Mike's is an ok diner. Parking is horrible. It's always busy and there's an accident waiting to happen when it's busy for breakfast. It was a little expensive when I last went and our waitress was rude and inattentive. Came Sunday 11/19/17. Felt like I walked into 1980 when I walked in. Place is very dated. Ordered 2 over easy eggs with home fries toast bacon. Reasonable price came with coffee and juice. Food came out fast and wait staff was great. Unfortunately 1 star because there was not a single hot item on my plate. Not even warm. Being that it came out so fast I just can not understand, either the plate was stored in the freezer, there are no heat lamps where they are kept until brought to table? Even the home fries were cold, aren't they kept on a grill or in a frying pan on low to stay hot until served? I wouldn't come back because I like hot breakfast.
