We've been diving with Jack's diving locker for over 30 years. It is our go to for big Island diving for both day trips and always a night Manta dive. They are also one of the few to have a night Manta dive and snorkel if your party has snorkelers. That said, with both divers and snorkelers on the same boat either party ends up, waiting for the other. If you need gear, they have all the equipment and the service is fantastic. There are light snacks and plenty of drinking water. Also, hot showers off the deck and shampoo and conditioner.

Why mess with a good thing - rhetorical but deserves a response. Once again, a spectacular experience with Jack's Diving Locker. Sierra did a phenomenal job captaining the boat and caring for getting us divers off and back on the boat for our dives. Our gear was taken care of for us as if by magic. Greg and Mongo did a great job with briefings. Mongo, my instructor for my Underwater Photography cert provided some great instruction about the how's of getting great photocaptures of the amazing waterworld. Great way to dive the Big Island.

Absolutely amazing experience with Jack's Dive Locker on the Big Island. This was honestly one of the highlights of our trip. Keller had us laughing nonstop. His dad jokes were so good and made the whole boat feel relaxed and comfortable right away. He brought a really fun vibe to the whole night. Our guide Michell was incredible. Super friendly, easy to talk to, and she took us to the perfect spots. You can tell she really loves what she does, and it made the experience feel even more special. And the manta rays... unreal. Watching them glide right under us was something I'll never forget. It didn't even feel real. If you're in Hawaii, you have to come here. Jack's Dive Shop is the place to go for an unforgettable adventure.

Always incredible people. I've been diving with jacks for about 20 years. Dive sites come and go. Some days weather is less than perfect. But the people at Jacks - Keller, Jim, Sabrina, too many others to mention - always deliver a fun, safe, and incredible dive adventure.

Jack's is my favorite dive shop. I received my Master Dive Certification with Jack's. They provide concierge service by setting up your dive gear each day and storing your equipment at night. Just needed to write another review and celebrate this crew. Did 5 dives this past week and everything was excellent. Shout to Sam for being extremely detailed oriented. Knowing his shit and articulating expectations and checking in frequently. I'll be coming back in the next 6-8 months and will definitely be hitting them up for some more adventures. BIG mahalo!

The only diving company we'll use - Jack's is the best and why mess with the best? My boys and I completed our open water PADI certification last year with Carlos, and he gave us the experience of a lifetime. I cannot recommend him enough, he's patient, knowledgeable and wise in the ways of teaching teenagers. This year (25) we came back to complete our advanced open water certification and Carlos wasn't availablebut we had Elle and Jim to help us with our course. Each dive is something special and this week was no exception - we saw so many epic animals and as usual, the boat was clean, professional, well run and exactly the vibe we love. Jack's is something special, don't look any further, you've found the right place right here.

The boat is spacious, they provide snacks and drinks during the surface interval, and they handle all of your gear setup which makes everything so easy and stress free. The team is super knowledgeable and does a great job grouping divers based on experience level so everyone has a good time. I'd also love to give a big shout out to Daniel and Cody who are always a blast and so much fun to dive with. Maxine is an awesome boat captain and Ashley was incredible dive master as well. She led our manta dive a year ago, gave such a great pre dive presentation, and was super thoughtful and fun to dive with on two separate occasions. Honestly, because of this dive shop we keep coming back to the Big Island and continue rebooking with them every trip. Highly recommend and I wouldn't look anywhere else for diving in Kona!

We've been on several black water dives before and day are part of our top list. The next day we took apart in the two tank afternoon dive and manta dive. Again, Fernando and Ashton were very thorough with the dive briefing and safety. I particularly liked how he emphasized not standing or touching the reef as well as not harassing the wildlife. I've witnessed many dive masters, who don't do this perhaps fearing unsatisfied or offended guests? I also really liked how Hawaiian culture was integrated into the dive briefings. Under the water, he helped spot various endemic creatures. Another thing we really liked for the manta dive was the small group. On past excursions we've been with larger groups and were later to the site. Whereas this time we were first to the site and we were treated to a spectacular showing of mantas. Our diver, Bradly, said that Hannah did a great job as his dive instructor, and she was great at helping the newest diver of the group who was heavily struggling during his dive. Myself and Lisa were snorkeling with Laura and she was very helpful! She was great at finding mantas for us even when they wanted to hang out by the campfire. Chad, our captain, was super friendly and talkative. I get extremely motion sickness very easily. The waters were extremely rough during our visit, and I did get sick during the last five minutes of the snorkel, as well as the boat ride back. All members of the staff were very understanding and kind, and made it very clear that if I had to return to the boat during the snorkel or did have to hurl during the ride, they wouldn't be upset or judge, and wanted to help me in any way possible. A super nice and interactive crew, and they shared lots of stories about the rays that frequent the area we explored! We were lucky enough to see two bottlenose dolphins (a mother and child), a Galapagos shark, 4-8 rays for the snorkelers and 11 rays for the divers. I highly recommend booking through Big Island divers! They provided all of the equipment needed, and we were welcome to wear/use our own if it made us more comfortable. The only request I would make is that the snorkel instructor be more adamant about keeping our feet up straight in the water, as the two snorkelers across from me on the board constantly had their feet in the water as if they were doggy paddling, which over rated our view of the marine life and caused the board to shake (increasing my motion sickness). I chose not to wear fins because I had gotten anxious while wearing them earlier in the day, but I kept my feet up the whole time because of my previous snorkel experience . It would have been really helpful to have our snorkel guide get those guests to keep their legs up, but otherwise every staff member did amazing! Chad let a young girl steer the boat for a while which was really kind.

The directions were accurate,…read moreeverything was well organized, and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful from start to finish. Our crew included Mike, Justin, Eric, and another Mike (I think!). I wish they had introduced themselves a little more clearly because every one of them deserved recognition--they were all fantastic. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, but what stood out most was how genuinely respectful and non-judgmental the entire crew was. At many popular tourist attractions, it's understandable that after giving the same presentation countless times, things can start to feel rushed or impersonal. That was absolutely not the case here. Every crew member seemed genuinely happy to be there. They welcomed every question with patience and respect, and if the answer to something was "no," they took the time to explain why instead of simply dismissing it. As a parent, I especially appreciated this because it's just as valuable for children as it is for adults. Justin did an amazing job teaching us about manta rays before we got in the water. He took the time to show everyone charts and photos, explain their behavior, and answer questions. It made the experience much more meaningful than simply showing up and jumping in the water. Once we were in the water, one of my kids became a little overwhelmed by all the gear and new variables. Mike handled it beautifully. He stayed calm, encouraged them to sit on top of the float board until they felt comfortable, and made sure they were doing okay before moving the board farther from the boat. That patience and reassurance made a huge difference. I have two suggestions that aren't complaints at all--just ideas that I think would make an already excellent experience even better. First, it would be helpful to give guests a quick overview of the evening at the very beginning. Something like: "We'll have about a __-minute boat ride out, anchor at the site, pass out and fit gear, wait for sunset, then enter the water one at a time and hold onto the floating boards for about 45 minutes before returning to the boat and heading back to the harbor." Having that roadmap would have helped both my kids and me know exactly what to expect. Second, I would recommend letting guests know to bring an extra towel to sit on during the boat ride. The ridged metal benches became a little uncomfortable after a while, and a folded towel would have made a big difference (we were allowed to move around the boat which was also awesome- just for those who didn't want to). Overall, this was an incredible experience. We came for the manta rays, but what we'll remember just as much is the crew. They were knowledgeable, professional, patient, and genuinely passionate about what they do. We felt welcomed as people--not just another group of tourists--and that made all the difference. I would absolutely recommend Manta Ray Dives of Hawaii.

Lesson learned. During the night dive, your GoPro will work without any lighting because they light up the entire area with 6000 lumen lights in a "campfire" circle. It was the coolest thing to see those manta rays! We even got a show by an eel dancing around. Anytime we come back, we will dive with this company. They are amazing!

It took days for me to get in contact with them to book with my Groupon or to ask questions. I called or texted for 5 days and finally got a response. Groupon only allows 3 days for a refund, so thankfully someone did finally call. The woman on the call seemed very rushed and not so nice. Groupon times were very late and also cost an additional fee for the "manta guarantee", which is unclear that it costs more. It actually says you get the manta guarantee "for FREE" on the Groupon but that it only applies to certain bookings. This is misleading. Then it says to call the office to get more info on this insurance but again it was extremely difficult to reach anyone initially... The crew was amazing. We didn't see mantas on our first tour, but we were rebooked for the next day. Jake was very nice and amazing with communication, providing info, and renting us our wetsuit shirts. Erica and Kua were great captains and made us feel safe and welcome. Cody and Greg were knowledgeable and caring. All of the crew deserves 5 stars. This company has a lot of potential, but there needs to be some administrative improvements. This company needs a better system for getting in contact with them at first... like setting up a voicemail box or simply texting back after you call them at their office phone number. If someone had a question regarding accessibility, safety, or a concern, the likelihood of having actual helpful communication with the office seems slim. I urge management to come up with better systems so this crew can continue doing an amazing job. If you book directly online, you won't be disappointed.
