We have dived with a lot of dive shops over the years and this one is our favorite. The crew, especially Toby (our divemaster) were amazing. We felt very special every step of the way and the night dive with the Manta Rays was spectacular. They take care of you and even will tell you corny jokes while waiting for the next dive. AND, as an added bonus, you get a hot shower after your dive. For real! If you are going to dive in Kona, this is the place to go. The Manta Rays were plentiful and we were entertained for an hour watching them perform with somersaults, on top of us, beside us and generally all around fun. They were magnificent with a 12' wingspan. This is the dive to make! We also got to see alot of other cool fish, animals and eels. read more

Dove with these guys three days in a row and had some amazing trips! We got the "Keller Special" the first day with Suck Em Up and Golden Arches. Keller is an awesome guide if you haven't dove with him before. Highly recommend requesting him. Second trip we dove with "Tall Ross" whom we also really enjoyed diving with. We will definitely request him in the future as well. This dive we went South and got a Southern Eagle Ray, some nudis, octopus, and lots of yellow fish. Booked the manta night dive and was blown away! Keller, Sam and the rest of the JDL team were super professional, friendly, patient .... And funny to boot. (Amazing dad/sailor jokes from Keller!) No one can guarantee manta sightings but boy did we get a real show! Nearly a dozen rays showed up and entertained us for an hour! Jack's is the best! I did Pelagic Magic Tuesday and it was excellent. They are top notch with top notch people. Thursday I did snorkel Manta instead of dive because I had to trade the day to do another Blackwater. I cannot say that I recommend the snorkel for Manta. Driving it is much better because you're looking through the divers bubbles and you're staring into bright lights so unless the manta comes high in the light column to your board you really don't see anything. Wow this dive center and their staff are amazing! My boyfriend and I went into the shop and Olivia helped us out with booking our dives. We booked for a classic 2 tank dive and the night manta dive. She was very informing and her passion for diving had us even more excited about our upcoming dives. Jack's has great boats (hot water to shower off and a bathroom!) all of the staff was so helpful and friendly. On our night manta dive Keller was our diving lead and he is not only super informative but took extra effort to go above and beyond to give me some tips for staying warm (I get cold in the water). The crew was great. Just went on a two tank dive with savannah as the dm and she was really good at finding all the cool life tucked away in little hiding space. Jimmy was with a different group, but was immensely helpful with some gear I had brought along, and went above and beyond, as I understand that's not his job. I also went on the Pelagic Magic night dive, and Ryan was fun, helpful, and kept us all feeling safe. Christine was our boat captain, and she was super funny and friendly. We went on the Manta Swim. What an experience! The mantas come right up to you which was a bit freaky at first, but then you get used to watching them. The crew members at Jack's were experienced, knowledgeable about the mantas, and conscientious about protecting them. They were helpful and considerate to us passengers. Where to start on this "six star" review for Jack's Diving Locker with regard to our two days with them last week. My company takes care of extremely high touch, high net-worth individuals and their families. My husband and I took our 18 year old, who had just finished her certification dives, to Kona for a week. We did a two tank dive last Wednesday and then a two tank night dive with Manta Rays last Friday. I can tell you this review was already penned in my head based on the professionalism and personalization the entire team showed my family on the Wednesday dives. Seeing 11 giant Manta Rays on our second night dive on Friday was the icing on the cake! We want to thank Angela for the quick responses on email setting everything up. Captain Neil was the right amount of stern which commanded respect and engaging which my family greatly appreciated. The keystone to the entire experience both days was Keller. Keller always had a smile (behind his mask of course) and a joke to tell (or 100 jokes to tell) during the dive trips. Keller had the scientific name of most species of animal we were viewing and took the most incredible pictures of my family while diving. Thank you for memories which will last a life time! We had an amazing time diving with JDL in October 2021. We went for the 2-tank manta ray night dive with Shannon and the classic two tank dive with Chase. Captain Russell and the rest of the crew went above and beyond to give us the best (and safe!) experience. The boat is great, very well equipped (with warm water shower!), and with plenty of snacks and drinks. The crew switches over your tanks and helps you get into your gear, making it overall a very relaxed experience! Although not guaranteed, we saw a bunch of mantas during our night dive. We waited for some of the other boats to take off, so we basically had a private viewing! There were 6 people in our night dive group with Shannon and I really appreciated that those with more air left could stay underwater (with the guide) for longer time, instead of everyone having to go up. It was a really impressive dive, one we'll never forget! One of the other guides brought a camera and was so kind to share his pictures with everyone at the end of the night (thank you!) The 2-tank classic day dive was also great. We saw a bunch of cute fish and turtles, and a pod of dolphins came to play up by the boat. The group for this dive was smaller, with only 3 people per guide. They really showed us some great spots and were very knowledgeable about the locations and the fish. The briefings beforehand were handy to know what to look out for. Overall great experience and would highly recommend diving with Jacks! read more

Had another great dive with Jacks's, Captain Gary and divemaster Toby were on point. We saw octopus, white-tip reef shark, turtle, many eels, nudibranch, lobster, we checked out some caves, we saw whales and dolphins when we were back on the boat. There were some new divers on this trip and the team took great care of them and made everyone feel comfortable. I've been diving with Jack's for many years, and they helped our kids make their first dives when they were young. I've also had them work on some of my personal dive gear. Jack's Diving Locker - My 16 year old son and a manta - Snorkeling Near Me - Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

Snorkelers skip this boat! Scuba ppl, this is mostly great for you (hence the 2nd star)! They have 2 dives and "dinner". Here are my snorkeling and dinner observations. I'm writing this post because this trip was really expensive for what I got. Their 2 dives go like this for snorkelers: boat over to the airport for a 20 min ride. Dive 1: you go into the water for about 45 mins (after the scuba ppl) and float above a pretty deep area and can't see to the bottom very well, so you are waiting for fish to swim by. The person guiding you tells you to stay with the group constantly and if you do see something cool they bug you to get back with the group. Get back on board, dry off, then "dinner". "Dinner": a half a sandwich and a bag a chips with maybe some grapes or oranges. Really? Not even some Hawaiian fruit? Not cool. Was my veggie sandwich good? It was just ok. Dive 2: it's just past sunset (the scuba ppl are 2nd off this time). There are many more boats now and most of their ppl are already in the water. You get in and have to hold onto a rope on the side of a surf board. So we all keep bumping into each other. Yes, 8 ppl around a surfboard. The board has lights in the middle of it and this is how it attracts the manta rays. Did our board attract any manta rays, no! The guide moved us around to several spots with no luck. We could see that manta rays were swimming down at the bottom, but it was even hard to see them because it was so dark. We barely saw them. After not seeing manta rays up close we got back on board and my towel was soaked. I was really hungry too! I asked for a refund, no refunds - they can't control the wildlife. Well, every person I've ever talked to about the nighttime manta ray dive has had manta rays come right up to them and it was one of the best experiences of their lives! I paid $248, and other 1 dive boats that will see mantas are $150. Rip! read more

My wife and I recently completed the Open Water Diver training and received our PADI certification at Jack's Diving Locker. The instructors, Elle and Shannon are the best. They definitely take the training very seriously but also make it enjoyable. Also, the sales staff (Patti) were very helpful fitting my wife for a new mask. My first experience with this establishment was when I called initially to inquire about the MANTA RAY NIGHT DIVE. The staff that helped me out was Andy. He was very professional, courteous, and answered all of my questions. Unfortunately I forgot my dive license but Andy was quick enough to search my info and verified it for me via online. Within a few minutes I was booked for a two tank dive and since My sister isn't a diver they had a snorkeling option. We met at the dive shop at 315pm to check in and sign and turn in waivers. When I first walked into the shop it was very brightly lit with lots of open space and plenty of great items to choose from. Every person that worked there that I came across was very welcoming and inviting. When that is all said and done, they shuttle you in their van to the dock in order to get fitted with gear and get you on the boat. Gear is in great condition and is pretty up to date. The boat itself was also in great condition. We started off the first tank exploring the dive area and following the dive guide. Once we were done we safely return to the boat with a safety stop. Once on the boat They changed our our tanks and They provided snacks such as sandwiches, chips, juice, and water. Unfortunately it was VERY choppy being a night dive and we had about an hour and 1/2 between dives I got very queasy and the food didn't stay down so I helped chum the waters for more marine life for us to see later on Lol. But once I returned back underwater everything changed and the sickness disappeared. We saw an estimated total of 20 mantas that night. What an amazing crew and experience. Crew was knowledgeable, hilarious, and very professional. When I'm back on the island I will definitely be stopping back here to get my dive on. read more

Not safe! I did the Manta Ray night dive. The mantas were a wonderful sight. The boat and rental gear are good. BUT the dive master, Semoni, was watching the mantas through a camera lens rather than keeping his eye on the divers. Upon returning to the boat he handle out his photography business card ,wanting to sell photos and or videos of our dive for $50. My dive buddy is new to diving and was lost when first reaching the bottom. I was not there because I had some equipment dysfunction. Simone was on the surface with me. My buddy had requested a private guide for her first night dive. Unfortunately the price of a private guide was a high $300 US, which is more costly than standard. Money seems more important to Jack's than safety. read more

We had a terrific experience! We saw a manta ray on the surface before we even anchored. We saw a few while snorkeling in the afternoon, then saw a dozen while snorkeling at night. We rarely went more than 30 seconds without seeing a manta, and they looped under us, almost brushing us, MANY times. The crew - Captain Sienna, Sam, and Brad - were outstanding. Water was choppy and bcd they provided for me did not fit properly once a wet suit was added. As a result it was very constricting, I was unable to breathe properly and descend. I had signed up for a dive the next morning but felt too sick and called that night to cancel. They refused to cancel or provide any type of refund. Offered another chance for the Pelagic dive. No thanks. Out over $500. I would not make a reservation with them unless it is a few hours in advance. I had an ear infection that contributed to my issues. A doctors note was not acceptable to them. read more

Love love love! I'm so glad that my group booked to have our night manta ray experience with this company! You have two choices: for the scuba dive certified and for the non scuba certified you get to be a snorkeler for the evening. Great way to keep your entire party together. I went as a snorkeler but the others in my group were all divers. Lucky me! I was the ONLY snorkeler, so I got a personalized experience. I'm not sure if I had paid more to go with this group as a snorkeler since there were other boats that came with plenty of customers. It was pouring while waiting to depart and as we were heading out in the water but rain stopped! Yay! Dolphins swam with our boat midway to the spot with the manta rays. Apparently this doesn't happen to often. We were all able to jump into the water and see the dolphin pod. We went in the water 2x with the ability of free swimming option in between during dinner. Dinner was chips and a half sandwich. As a single snorkeler with of our group I have to say I got to see quite a show! Worth every penny. The manta rays did summersaults less than a foot from me. I could see the little sea worms attached to the manta rays. Amazing! I also got to see a double rainbow when I came out of the water the first time we came back up. Excellent! read more

I'm an experienced AOW diver and JDL delivered a superb 2 tank classic dive experience on the Kona Coast. Mother Nature has hand in the captain choosing specific dive sites for the day. We went to Lone Pine and Air Tanks sites, each debrief noted cool fish and critters we were to encounter. Our DM Jim was great in pointing out nudis in small coral and lava tube spaces! A few swim throughs and some surge at shallows made for a fun trip. Captain Christine was great stopping for whale sightings along the way and did not disappoint. I'll be back again for next trip.
