I was hoping to find a place where I could safely enjoy a date night and eat out for the first time in nearly 14 years. While I appreciate having a local health food store in Longview, I was disappointed to find that the kitchen and premade food section doesn't fully align with a clean-eating standard. Because many meals are pre-assembled, it isn't possible to remove common allergens like corn or cheese. Looking closely at the ingredients, items include mayonnaise with high fructose corn syrup, sweet potato fries cooked in soybean oil, and Hormel meats with added hormones. Longview has a strong demand for truly non-inflammatory and allergen-friendly options. Simple kitchen updates would transform this into a go-to spot for people with strict dietary needs: Offering customizable, build-your-own options (so ingredients like corn or dairy can be left off) Swapping to clean base ingredients, like avocado oil for cooking and corn-syrup-free mayo (like Primal Kitchen) Introducing organic ingredients, hormone-free meats, and grain-free menu items There are so many people in our community with sensitivities who would love to be loyal, regular customers if safer, cleaner options were available! read more

The restaurant/smoothie side's menu and staff were disappointingly inadequate. I tried to order something that would accommodate my food allergies, by substituting one fruit for another, and nondairy milk for frozen yogurt, in a drink. First the guy had to check if it was alright. To substitute things. Which, um, why doesn't he already know? Then, he overcharged me, and when I said something, Valerie came to 'help', overcharging me even more, such that what should've been a $6.99 drink was NOW going to be $11, despite my not including 4-5 of the ingredients in it! If you are at all concerned with the integrity of ingredients, want to know exactly what you're drinking, or would prefer a place that works with you so you can actually have something that won't send you on a flare, DO NOT come here. If you're traveling through and need something healthy, for the love of god, pass by this place and go to either The Granary or to Natural Grocers, both just a few minutes down the road. The store side was unfortunately unimpressive as well - they just didn't have the selection or stock of say, The Granary or Natural Grocers, and it was really expensive. Also the staff over there reeked of bad perfume, and didn't know where stuff was. This may be a healthy place for lunch if you've just started trying to be healthy and are comparing it to say, fried chicken and fries. We like the food at Jacks's but the service is painfully slow. The cashier was not friendly, nor was she knowledgeable about the menu or how to enter a coupon for the order. Jacks has been on my list for some time since they recently moved to a brand new spot. When you walk in, the new space boasts Natural Grocer vibes, but with a much better seating area. It does have a ton of seating with great lighting that makes it a desirable remote working spot. If you need to meet up with someone, this a great place to do so. The store, ambiance and employees are 5/5. The restaurant is really what I want to dive into more. I ordered a Bruce's Best Sandwich, along with the Mega Nachos. It took quite a bit for the food to come out, but it was fresh. After eating plane food then take out after dine-in and late-night travel snacks.. we really needed to put something nutritious into our bodies- enter Jack's. We went to the drive-through and could barely decide what to order because Jack's has so many healthy options. We narrowed in on smoothies knowing our Texas BBQ stomachs needed a break. This place had great customer service. The smoothies did take a little longer than they normally do at other chain style places but once they were ready, they were really good. This is a good option. We ate here some time ago. Health everywhere. We tried a TNT Sandwich, a Bruce's Best Sandwich and some Bean & Cheese Nachos. The TNT has turkey on toasted bread with tomato and cheese and spinach sprinkled with the Spike salt substitute.....very tasty. The Bruce's Best Sandwich was similar but with a meat, spinach, avocado and jalapeno and some Spike as well.....also good. The seating is to the side in this health food store. They have a lot of other eating options and smoothies and drinks too. It is a good lunch. read more

If you are alternative in any way (Goth, Punk, etc.), I would NOT recommend stepping foot into this establishment. I went in today to grab a veggie burger (approximately 12 noonish) before heading back home, and when I finished, I placed some napkins in my purse and started to browse around. This VERY rude cashier stormed up to me and said in a very abrasive voice, "Uhhhhh can I HELP you? ". While she was speaking to me in this accusative tone, she kept giving me nasty looks, and kept staring at my purse as if she suspected that I stole a product. I am a professional in the workforce, have plenty of money, and I would never steal from anywhere. I do not appreciate the way I was treated due to my Goth attire. I will NOT be back. read more

I have always enjoyed Jacks! I have purchased the chocolate express for the past 10 or more years at the old location as it has always been my favorite! I went to the new store and it was beautiful but when I received my chocolate express it was nothing like i had been getting for years. It was like a slush watery. I took it back and they added more ice to thicken it. Just seemed they cut back on the yogurt and decided to use more ice. Jack's Natural is a lifesaver in Longview, TX. Not only do they provide a weekly Produce Box option where you get the most superb quality organic fruits and vegetables but they also provide a wonderful juicing center where you can get fresh organic juicing and smoothies, organic sandwiches, supplements and friendly service. When you are out and about in the Texas heat, which we are still getting used to, a smoothie from Jack's is the perfect pick-me-up. Jack's definitely has the potential to be the vegan/vegetarian headquarters of East Texas. The store itself has all the vegan staples-veganaise, daiya cheese, meat subs, etc. And their supplement selection is impressive. But the restaurant could be really good if they made things in-house. When I go out to eat, I don't want a Bocca burger. I'd much rather have a handmade lentil patty. I also don't want to eat salsa from a jar. I'd much rather sample someone's own unique recipe. That said, it's kind of like a deli set up. Large menu. Pretty diverse. I got The Greek with no avocado, cheese or mayo. It was fresh but I wish I'd been offered some veganaise and vegan cheese. Or extra hummus. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Longview though. Maybe the menu will have more homemade items on it. read more

There's nothing like this for miles around... (East Texas isn't exactly known for health food and open minds). I love passing through and getting a smoothie or fruit slushy. They have decent sandwich and burrito options and even recently started offering vegan cheese! Snacks, drinks, convenience foods, a small freezer section and a personal products area with soaps and lotions complete the store. Very grateful Jacks is right off I-20 for those of us that travel and also don't wanna eat crap. read more

I always get great service at Jack's! I consider it a treat to be in town and have the time to grab lunch from there. The Earthquake sandwich is one of my very favorites (tuna, spinach, tomatoes, monterey jack cheese, avocado and spark seasoning). I also like the papaya slush. My girls love the black bean nachos. Their "trail" mixes are great, too. I can pick up my favorite vitamins, protein powders, some natural snacks for the kiddos while my sandwich is being made or in a hurry, take the drive thru. read more

This is the healthiest lunch place I've found in Longview. (And sandwiches always seem to taste better when someone else makes them.) Most of the sandwiches and salads are vegetarian with the option to add turkey or ham for a little extra pocket-change. I was happy to see my favorite Red Hot Blue chips as an optional side. The smoothies are heavenly meals in themselves as well. (and cheap!) This IS my lunch place when I work in Longview. I have eaten at this location for many years and NEVER had anything bad. I can taste the Earthquake sandwich before I go in. I also have had several of the turkey sandwiches and love them all. The serve with good chips but I usually request the blue chips. The zinger tea is good really cold. I also have had several smoothies and again always good. The staff makes it even better. They are always clean, nice and happy to see you. The best part is I am able to shop and grab a few things also. I choose to shop at these stores as much as possible and do NOT want the government to dictate what I can buy. (See HR-bill that will close our choices to health food) If you want a great fresh healthy alternative to the usual heat lamp pre-made processed food crap (subway) then run into Jack's and enjoy. Be sure to read the Energy Times mag on the table and look at the page on government watch to see what our government is doing to our health food industry. Super friendly people. The only place I can find Tofurky any time of the year in the area. Love the vegan selection and natural health focus. When goods gets close to expiration, they put them on 50% clearance which is awesome if you plan on using them reasonably soon. Produce boxes are awesome--love the variety we get in them. read more
