Husband and I went for dinner here and loved it! I'm pregnant and can only have my steak cooked to a certain temperature. In the last 7 months this is the first restaurant I haven't had to send my steak back to the kitchen. They cooked it wonderfully! And it was so good! Husband got tilapia grilled and seasoned, and it was absolutely to die for. The fried pickles hit the spot, the tea was awesome, and we both loved the sweet potato fries! I've had two experiences here. After driving through a dodgy part of town and into a gravel driveway, my husband and I are greeted by the most friendly cat. Honestly, the cat was more friendly than the staff. Probably the best part of this experience and saved it from a one star review. Moving on, there are several signs that tell you to seat yourself, however do not sit at a dirty table as they would assume you've been served. Odd system but whatever. Ordered an 8 oz steak, potato and salad. Salad is definitely from a bag and severed with Newmans Own packaged dressing. Potato is served with butter and packaged sour cream. No cheese. No bacon bits. I ordered my steak rare to medium rare and it came out well done. Be prepared to be served on plastic plates, paper towels and five star prices. Service wise, once our food came to the table we never saw the waitresses again. Yes, waitresses, plural, as they all split the tables...I think? They bring pitchers of water and tea to the table so you can refill your own glass. Ambiance wise, it is an odd feeling to have the restroom/bathroom literally next to your table that you're eating from. I mean...it's not even a large bathroom. It's a one person bathroom. Imagine coming out and saying "hey" next to a kid blowing out birthday candles on a cake next to the bathroom. You think I'm joking. It's pretty much a concrete cinder block building serving flank steak well done, everything fried and then disappearing staff. They never came with a ticket and we had to go find it. This was my first experience at Jack's on the River. When we arrived the restaurant was at near its seating capacity, but we were seated after a very short wait. A waitress was promptly at our table to take drink orders, & subsequently our food orders! The waitstaff were friendly, courteous, knowledgeable about the menu, & very efficient! Now to the reason we eat out, The Food. Our food was delicious, well prepared & presented; & ticket times were extremely short! Kudos also to whoever runs the kitchen! Even at near capacity, orders arrived at the tables quickly! This is an extraordinarily efficient restaurant with a great staff & absolutely delicious food! I heard about "Jacks by the River" from a friend. My wife and I dine there most Fridays. We have learned to get there at 5:00 when they open to avoid the crowd and get a parking place. Our server is ready yo take our order with in five minuates of being seated. the fried oysters are perfect. I don't know of any place in Dublin that serves Mulle. Jack's on the River serves a good portions. Every server we hav had is courteous and eager to please. I recommend Jack's On The River in Dublin if you want fresh sea food prepared just right. I ordered the seafood plater. The plate was so full I couldn't eat it all and the taste was good too! Our server was excellent and we did not have to wait long which I was surprised considering we had a table of 11. It's a hole in the wall on the river, the ambiance is about what one would expect from a hole in the wall. I will definitely return and I would highly recommend the place. It is only open three days a week. It is busy, so depending on when you arrive you may have to wait. We arrived late, 9:15pm and did not have to wait at all. read more

To anyone who reads this review.... Keep in mind that we are down south. Like 2 hours from Atlanta down south. I am a young African American lady who ate with this establishment pretty often. Food is good. Don't get me wrong. BUT , I called in a order one night and couldn't go get the order because something came up. Life happens. That's normal.... So a week went by and I called in a order and went to go pick it up this time. They wanted to charge me for the previous order THAT I DID NOT GO PICK UP. Wanted me to pay for food. THAT I DID NOT EAT. I nicely declined and this woman (don't know what position she has) RUDELY says to me "ITS COMMON SENSE!" I held my composure, because this place is ALWAYS filled with NO OTHER RACE but white people and dint want to be the "black girl showing out." So I paid for my order and left. I realized when I got home I dint receive my shrimp with one of my orders. Odered a steak also for 20.99 said add oysters for a extra 3.99. went to pay they server up graded the steak to a surk and turf for 28.99. that's a 3 dollar difference. This place is a complete dive. Out in the middle of nowhere in a rundown neighborhood with trailer homes & swampy trees. The dirt/gravel parking lot was overflowing which seemed promising for the food. They were super busy with large tables and we had to seat ourselves which was difficult due to no clean tables, but we found a small two seater. The table was uncomfortably close to a six seater table so we had to wiggle into it. The food is on the expensive side, and they did get our order wrong. Ordered a medium steak that came out well done. They forgot our appetizer They forgot a side item to my wife's catfish dinner. I hate to give a negative review to a local business but they have a lot of work to do. They have catfish, which is not an option in most other places here. This restaurant, although a local dive restaurant (located in a dive neighborhood), I have to give it 5 stars for consistently meeting my expectations for decades. You simply can't replicate the old "fish camp" aesthetic and performance in a new place. Yes, it is just a old, squat concrete-block building located under the draped Spanish moss with concrete floors. But the fried catfish cannot be matched anywhere, not to mention their fried potato thins. They have even added steaks to the seafood and swamp creature menu in order to expand the options for families dining out. Those steaks are not thick, but they are cooked flavorful and correctly. We eat at Jacks about every other weekend and are never disappointed. Whether you want seafood or steak, the food here is always very good. Our favorites are the Swamp Man's Platter and the Surf and Turf. If you are look for something fancy, this isn't it; but the food and friendly folks are worth the 20 minute drive to Jacks for us. read more

My wife and I arrived @ around 7PM on a Friday night. We were third in line and waited about 10 min for a table. Our appetizer, fried green tomatoes, arrived fairly quickly. When my wife sliced into one, it was so greasy it literally squirted her on her shirt. Our waitress apologized, but did nothing else. Our entrée arrived about 30 minutes later. The coleslaw had a very strong sweet pickle flavor. The catfish was fine. The shellfish was just wrong. The oysters were cooked till rubber, the scallops dripped of grease, the shrimp had no real flavor. It is sad. Jack's was a very good place, but on our last visit we decided it had gone downhill. The food is not consistent . Some of my potatoes were warm some were not even room temperature .My fish filet was room temp. My husbands was piping hot. Had a good flavor but as many times as I have gone the food is never the same. read more
