We had two 18 year olds who wanted to ride wave runners. We did not book ahead of time, but had rented from Jack's a couple of years ago, so we took our chances to see if they had any wave runners available. They did! The guys there were great. Helped the girls take their boater's test on the spot, trained them on the runners and got them out enjoying pretty quickly. Equipment was in good shape and fully functional. Easy going staff. We did 1.5 hour rentals and spent most of that time in the Gulf. On the way back had to shut the ski off for a few minutes to let a pod of dolphins pass. Pretty fun time, would definitely do it again. read more

great rental experience! we are local but do not own a boat and wanted to get some exposure boating on the intercoastal - Jack's is perfect! super easy to park in the Johns Pass parking garage (if you get there early!!!) and hop right on the boat from the broad walk! Had a great experiencing renting a pontoon boat here. Our family if 8 adults and 3 kids were in down in the area for the holidays so my mom booked a boat for us to go out on the water to spend the day. There is a parking lot out front that is affiliated with the restaurant attached to the dock. The sign said $5. When we arrive the restaurant wasn't open but the employees said it's cool to park and pay the guy when we get back. I searched all around for him when we got back and he was nowhere to be found, so BOOYA... Free parking. Seriously though, $5 for all day is cool too. When we arrived at the boat there were two employees. One a little more hippy long heart looking and a younger dapper fellow named Andrew. They were both very friendly and helped us carry our items onto the boat. They gave instruction and we were on our way in no time. The boat (see pic) was relatively new and was very comfortably for our sized group. I noticed another review where they felt nickel and dimed. I can't say we experienced this at all we paid the rental fee and the fuel charge. No other hidden fees or upsells. When we came back in the same two chaps were there as well as another beefy dude that looked like he's on the cast of jersey shore. When the kids were getting off the boat he was super cool asking them if they had fun and if they caught any fish. Andrew the dapper younger fellow again insisted on helping us unload our pile of stuff off the boat. These guys made it a very comfortable experience. Next time we are down for a visit I'd be happy to use these guys for our next rental. read more

This place is ran by a scam artist! My friend and I had a great time riding. However, when we returned he accused us of causing a crack on one of his already cracked jet skis that was taped together. His stoolie went over the damage before we rode and pretended to take pictures and even pointed out and acknowledged the existing cracks. When we get back it was like the owner was waiting on us and immediately walks to the side and started lying, when we denied the accusation he immediately started getting rude and combative . We asked us to see the pictures, he never showed us the pictures he took before we left, he kept showing us pictures of jet skis with no damage, he was a complete moron. I have a good mind to have him investigated for a criminal lawsuit due to all the others he has scammed the exact same way. Check out his horrible reviews on Google, go to Jack's Marina, reviews and click on jet ski's, he has done this to multiple people, I'd bet that there are even more people that didn't post reviews. Had a great time and staff were very nice, respectful and courteous. Had no issues with "highway" robbery or being charged for damage.

I would stay away from this place---especially if you are going as a group. It is worse than a highway robbery with undue "damage" charges. The jet skis are worn and very old. They claimed we caused a scratch just above the waterline. However because of the age and amount of use on the jet ski, that could already been weakened and damaged and when we were riding it, the tape holding the ski together could have come off. This business could be closing soon for all I know and try to milk out any money they can off these ancient jet skis. Don't take the risk here. This is also a great jet ski rental place in John's Pass and the prices are the lowest among all the other rental places. This is also the reason why they may be all out at certain times like at noon because everyone already took them out. I rented a waverunner with my friend and we had an amazing time out in the Gulf. We had an excellent experience here. We rented a perfect boat (the 21 footer with the 150hp motor) from Jacks to take my parents out on the water and had an unbelievable day, seeing dolphins all day long, stopped off Shell Key beach to swim and collect some shells, and passed a pirate ship on the way back (that boat can be fast!). Shout out especially to the service - Brian is such a pro and took great care of us from the first phone call to talking us through all the paperwork. Prices are very fair - for something like this (we did 1/2 day) and the memories we got out of it will be a lifetime. Thanks guys we'll be back when our other friends visit. Our experience was out of this world. We are on our honeymoon and have always wanted to do this so we stopped by and made a reservation and got $10 off for the early bird special. We had to take the boating and pwc test that they do on site and then we got on our way. They were really nice and the employees were helpful to answer any questions before you are out on see. We both got separate wave runners and they were both really nice and ran like brand new runners. We did an hour and it was breathtaking, and we saw dolphins on our drive bqck in! They give you a pretty big area to explore and they give you everything you need to fully run the runner. After our hour was up we came back in to dock and they helped us out and got us on our way. They also give you a $10 off card after your first time on. We really enjoyed our experience and highly recommend this place to get your boats or wave runners! read more

My boyfriend, his dad and I rented jet skis for an hour for the first time. It was a great experience! We fell off twice. Once in open water out by the main beach and once trying to get the jet ski back on the ramp. "Human error" for sure. I think he needs a new drivers license. The guys there were very nice and well organized. You have to take a ski test before getting approved to drive one to ensure safety. We had our 3 year old with us and they were very sweet with her. She didn't go on with us since she's too little. It was still great for our first time. They were very informative and made sure we all felt safe and understood the rules. When we fell off by the pier we had two instructors come and help us up and pull it back to the ramp. -helpful tip- if you fall make sure you have some good upper body strength. It's pretty hard getting back on from the water. I just kinda flopped back on like a whale on land. IT WAS STILL FUN THOUGH!!! Would definitely recommend!! read more

No stars for this place. Do not rent here. They charged us $600 for a scratch after renting for one hour. Be aware of all the fine print you sign off on. They charge $150 per inch. Their jet ski's are at least ten years old and all of them are taped up. I called to complain and Jake would not let me talk to the owner of course. Then he proceeded to get mouthy with me. The entire process was very unprofessional. Explained we are locals who work in the tourist industry and he said he did not care because they have been in the business since 1986. In other words they are in the business of ripping off our tourists. Please spread the word to all your local friends and the people who come down to visit. read more

The owner was very helpful and professional in providing rental options to us. My husband and I each decided on a jet ski rental. While out on the water I noticed two fins just 6 ft from my jet ski. Two dolphins stayed beside me for almost ten minutes. It was a wonderful experience !! The son greeted us upon our return. We were past our deadline as we lost our sense of direction while out on the water. He guided us into the dock area and did not charge us for the additional time. We just rented a boat this past weekend (in july 2013). I was a member of Freedom Boat Club at one point, rent a lot of boats all throughout FL and love boating...having said that...Jack's was a great place. It's HARD TO FIND but it's behind a restaurant at John's Pass Boardwalk (cute area). The boys that ran the boats and reservations were nice, patient and they had our boat ready and recommended an island to visit. I saw many people renting waverunners as well. They were a little higher than a few of the other places in town, but I liked that their boats didn't post a huge phone number AND JACK'S BOAT RENTALS all over the boat. read more

Very disappointed with my rental, rented a 21 ft hurricane deck boat; wow, it was bad!! At the beginning of the rental process the guy checking me in says, don't complain about the boat speed, the engine is to small for the boat. What am I gonna due at that point, I reserved it 2 weeks out for incoming guests from out of town; Omg, it was ridiculous, we had 4 adults and 3 young children on the boat and it was unbelievable slow, the engine was only 115 hp and it was straining to move. It was not enjoyable at all; also they only had one anchor which makes it difficult to park your boat off the shore, really should have two anchors... I have rented many boats before and thought I would give them a chance based on the reviews here, but such a disappointment. PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE CONSIDERING RENTING HERE. The jet skis are terribly damaged, tape on multiple jet skis, and supposedly come back from the shop a lot. One of the jet skis tapped the other when I was idling at 2 mph and made a pretty decent crack. I don't know who repairs these things or what material they use to patch up damages but it is very poorly made and I would be terrified to drive them considering how fragile. Came out to "$2000" worth of damage even though he rented it out for 2 hours directly after the damage. He then proceeded to tell me I was a liar and must have " came in hot" to make that type of mark on the ski. There are plenty of other jet ski rental areas and would highly consider taking you money elsewhere. read more

We went to Jack's Rental after a bad experience at another place and they couldn't have been nicer. We had to do a quick boaters education test to make sure we could handle the jet ski and they made it as painless as possible. After passing, they gave us a quick overview of how the jet ski worked and then sent us on our way. The equipment was great and we had no trouble maneuvering the jet ski and went up and down the coast a few times. The experience was a real blast and we were very fortunate to see a pod of dolphins playing in the water and they even trailed our jet ski for a bit. Seeing the gulf from this angle was so beautiful and I would definitely come back again. Definitively recommended! read more

My boyfriend and i rented a boat for four hours. The owner was very friendly and chatted with us for a long time before we got out on the water. He then proceeded to explain to us what to do when we got out there. He talked really fast and even when we got out on the water, we still felt uneasy with the directions he gave and what we were doing. We had to call 4 times because we had gone the wrong way, and finally, we started going the right way, we got stuck on a sand bar. We tried move the boat ourselves but we were unlikely to do so, so we called in for help. A boat passed us told us we were supposed to stay between the red and green signs, the owner never told us this. He then accused us when we got back of being liars and it was completely our fault. We were told it was going to be ATLEAST a 433 dollar charge, on top of an already 300 dollar charge for the boat. We maybe got 40 minutes of actual time in the boat. They told us they would call back the next morning to know the total amount and we still haven't heard back from them. Meanwhile, they close in a hour and this is totally ruining our vacation now. We called to check up on it and they told us the owner had already left for the day. Just be smart when you rent. Record your conversation with him and take pictures!!!!!!! read more

Unfortunate way to sign up for yelp. What a blast what a great price and then the games begin - the team at jacks works to get every dollar out of you by playing a game that you have hit another jets ski because they remove a piece of tape. Our jet skis never hit nor where close. These guys use a piece of tape to hide a scratch and the piece of tape falls off in the water and then they blame you for it. Does anyone believe tape stays on for an hour at sea. Take lots of pictures ask them to remove all the tape and bring your lawyer. Terrible way to try to take advantage of one time customers. Please use caution. Came here because I saw the reviews and their prices were better than the woodys jetski place. I went there on Sunday 06/07/15 and thought I got a deal. The guy, Jake or Jay maybe Jack told me that he would only charge me for one hour even though I was going to do an hour and a half. Everything was good until I came back in from the ride. The jet ski was really worn down and didn't drive well to begin with. Then it started to make a noise and burn a little oil. Nothing extreme but the scent was there. He accused me of "riding it too hard" and told me that he would dismiss it (I'm guessing he wanted a good tip?) I get to my hotel and start looking at my bank statements to see yhat I got charged almost triple the price for the jet ski rental. Apparently he charged me for two and a half hours instead of one hour then only refunded me an hour. So instead of getting the previously arranged deal of 65$ I had to pay over 100$. When I confronted him about this and asked him to honor our original deal to which he said "shit happens when you're a d***" (which I wasn't) and then kept refering to me as stupid. Dude had a temper and was obviously on some sort of bullshark testosterone. At one point i thought he was going to push me off the dock. Would give 0 stars of I could. Don't come here. I can't make this stuff up! HIGHLY unprofessional. read more

I've been a repeat renter at Jacks for over 6 years now, own a condo one mile up the street. The last time, the unit wouldn't go much faster than 25 mph. Of course I didn't find out until the 10-15 minutes of slow/no-wake out to the intercoastal, and doing the extra 30-45 minutes to return it wasn't in the cards, so I made the most of it. I should have turned around when I first left, as the unit seemed to be running rough, but figured maybe it hadn't run all day and just needs a little warm up, it was an older unit already had a few chunks taken out of it. Upon returning, they indicated the issue was seaweed (I take them at their word). I would have been fine with "our deepest apologies sir" (much less any present or future discount), however I was forcefully told it was my fault and could have blown the motor, which would have been my responsibility. Incorrect assessment. It is YOUR responsibility to check the operations out on units between rentals. And while I recognize that 95% of your business is "one and done", blaming the customer without so much as an ounce of an apology is 100% bad business. I'll be renting from one of the others from here on out, and advising my tenants at the condo to rent elsewhere as well. I tolerate mistakes, I do not tolerate the rude accusations. We had a great experience with Jacks when renting waverunners. Without even asking he told me if I would rent before 11 I would get an early bird discount of $55/hr. He was also very understanding when one of our kids got sick the morning of my rental and we had to cancel one of the waverunners.he did not charge me for the second one nor give me any type of penalty, my son and husband had a blast and felt very safe and they gave us very good training instructions.
