Ever since Rodrigo left this store, everything went downhill. The communication has been pretty much non-existent and after getting my taxes filed with Matt which took months to complete, I ended up getting charged by the IRS and FTB nearly $2000 due to late payments. This could have all been avoided if they gave me a voucher and instructions on how to pay and when to pay the dues before I got charged late payment fees. I get that they are short staffed, but the management should have re-hired or prepared for Rodrigo's departure. Trying to get ahold of someone there is next to impossible. I kept asking how much I had to pay and when do I need to pay by to avoid the penalties and after weeks I finally get a response but by then it was too late. This could have been avoided with proper communication and having my taxes done sooner. I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

We had an incident with Matt B. We filed our Taxes with him earlier this week. He clearly messed up and put the wrong name on the files and when we brought it up to him to change it. There were a lot of things that I had spent money on that could be written off that I had no idea about. I was charged $375 for the service and it was well worth that cost. Came here last year after moving from the Westside to the Valley. Had been using Pronto Income Tax in West LA, but wanted to try a more local tax accountant after the move. Not impressed though. During 2014 I sold restricted stock units (RSUs) that had been vesting over the last couple years. So I knew that I had capital gains and would have tax due. First red flag was when Matt wasn't sure how to deal with the RSUs and the cost basis vs taxes witheld etc. After a while though he came up with a federal refund. I knew this couldn't be right and told him I was skeptical... Later in the evening he called me to say he had reviewed it again, wasn't sure and had to check with an expert at Jackson-Hewitt. It took about a week to get the numbers right. Now, I'm glad he did check and that they fixed my return so I'm not slapped with something down the road. However, the reason I came her in the first place is that they should be the experts, not me. It's a waste of time if I have to send emails about sales (that are already in the papers) and calculate the taxes to make sure they get it right. I might as well have spent my time in traffic driving to Pronto's (who knows how to deal with stock and RSU sales) location. At least I got a partly refund, cause it was pricey too. I'm sad. I want to say I'm rather neutral about the experience because it wasn't horrible customer service, but it wasn't the best either. I'm mostly sad because it cost around $230 for tax preparation fees, even with the $50 dollar discount they gave me, I think that's way too much. I was expecting to pay less than $100. I also bought this voucher on Yelp that was suppose to be $30 for $50 so I thought I could have saved another $20, but my tax preparer said I couldn't redeem it. So hopefully Yelp or someone will refund it since it's really useless, and I've already been robbed!!! I didn't feel like I got the most out of my return either, the preparer was asking another person for help at times and didn't really say/ask much. I only wanted to go here because I thought a 1099 and 1098 form would be complicated to do on my own, but seriously I would rather risk getting in trouble by the IRS than have someone charge me over $200 and still feel like I didn't get the best return. Sighhhhh no love/breaks for the struggling post grad student...SAD. read more

Matt is very knowledgeable and nice and really takes you through the taxes process. I would come in and bring three w2 forms and he would be so quick to process them and asking questions about other payments you have made during the year or if you have made any donations that you have paperwork of or if you work in education like I have then you just show him your receipts and bam. More refund money! Plus don't forget if you are still paying off your student loans because that helps you out too. Another time I was freaking out about another w2 I got from a 401k I pulled money out of so I went directly to him and he answered all my questions and gave me a peace of mind that it wasn't actually a big deal lol. I have been coming to this location for years and his extra people during tax season are good too. But Matt has been taking care of my taxes for a few years in a row plus he's the owner of the franchise. He also just earned his CPA. So you can trust that he seriously knows his stuff and new laws that come up! read more
