My social media feed frequently shows me places in NY and NJ that look like fun places to grab a bite. Jackson Hole came up in a diner list one day and its retro decor, neon sign and an Old Skool camper trailer parked out front made this a must visit location for me. My GF and I recently headed out for the 30ish minute drive to check this place out. I want to say ahead of time that my 4 stars is me feeling generous. This is "really" a 3.5 star review, but before I get into that let's talk about what's awesome. Out of all the diners I have visited in my life, this is one of my favorite in terms of decor and layout. The interior features a counter where you can sit and eat (classic). Booths with coat hooks built in line the diner and each one has a jukebox! The music is a mixture of classic and contemporary music. Want to hear Elvis followed by Lady Gaga? You can do that! The decor is filled with retro items including a display case featuring an old camera and toy diners from the past. It is a total nostalgia trip and I loved it. When you walk in there's even a pay phone encased in glass. The trailer outside is awesome, featuring a set up inside that includes a dinner setting and retro 50's/60's era furniture. The host was very friendly and had us sit anywhere so we chose a booth towards the back. I noticed a lady sitting alone in the booth behind ours (more on that in a bit). We eagerly ordered and started putting quarters into the jukebox and selected a bunch of retro music to help keep the mood nostalgic. Our waitress came by and took our order. We would later learn this is partly where some of our issues began. My GF had ordered her omelet to have egg whites, but the waitress didn't write it down so she wound up getting a regular egg omelet (she still ate it and it was okay). I ordered the buffalo wings and a turkey burger. The way the menu is laid out, I expected it to come with tomato, lettuce and fries - but for some reason they were not included and I had to ask for them after the fact. Here's the other issue, our waitress never came back to check on us. I literally watched her sitting at the counter bouncing a ball to distract herself while I was waving for someone to get me some water. I'm not saying she needed to keep a laser sharp eye on us, but coming over *once* during our meal would have been nice. For the record, there were only three other booths with customers. They were hardly overwhelmed. Had it not been for a nice waiter who was talking to the lady behind us, we wouldn't have gotten any service at all. He was great. The food was "okay" to "very good". The buffalo wings? They were super tiny and not crispy at all. The sauce was okay though. The burger was like the size of my fist so I was very impressed. The swiss cheese I requested was nicely melted on the turkey and the mushrooms in my burger were beautifully cooked. The burger was the highlight of my meal. I did eventually get fries with it but the serving was so anemic I was shocked. I think there were maybe about 10 steak fries in the order. They were good, but it was the saddest fry order I've ever seen size-wise. I tell myself that since this visit was late on a Sunday perhaps we were not gettin the "A-Team" of this diner. The nostalgic trappings are enough to bring me back again, but next time I'll try a slightly busier time in hopes of getting better service. read more

Came here on Father's Day because I had been craving for their burgers for quite some time now. I used to live in upper eat side NYC and this was my go to burger. The food doesn't disappoint, but the lack of service consistency needs to be polished better. I get it that it was busy, but it literally took over an hour for me to receive my order. I was very patient and didn't make a fuss about. I get they were bombarded with a lot of to go and delivery orders, but you shouldn't neglect dine in customers and we shouldn't have to ask for our order follow up. Table touches need to happen more often, especially after 30mins of guest still not having food on their table after ordering. I just want this business to do better in this area. read more

I've been coming to Jackson Hole for breakfast for years and honestly nobody does it better. The open kitchen, friendly staff, and fresh ingredients always make it feel like a neighborhood staple. Portions are generous too and you'll never leave hungry. I highly recommend the Wyoming Omelette if you love mushrooms and bacon. It is absolutely stuffed to the brim with freshly sautéed ingredients. The pancakes are super fluffy and taste freshly made, and the fruit has never once tasted frozen. Plus, your coffee cup somehow always stays full because the servers really stay on top of it. They serve breakfast all day and just a heads-up: it's cash-only so make sure you come prepared. My only small disappointment is that prices have definitely gone up and some of the little touches I used to love aren't included anymore. Coffee used to come with breakfast, you'd get a complimentary shot of fresh OJ, and they served amazing link sausage but now it seems like a standard frozen patty instead. It's still very good but it used to be the best. Breakfast for two now runs over $50 which feels a bit steep. Still, despite the changes over the years, Jackson Hole remains one of my favorite spots for a hearty classic breakfast. read more

He ordered the Cheddar Burger with fries, and I had the Bacon Cheeseburger with onion rings both were delicious and cooked perfectly. The pickles were awesome and definitely stood out! What a FUN FIND during my Englewood weekend! Driving down Grand Ave, you cannot miss the giant glowing sign that says "DINER" underneath . EYE CATCHING ! Then I spotted this adorable sea-green caravan (trailer? camper?) parked on the outdoor patio, and I had to stop. That day I just took photos of the exterior and promised myself I'd come back for breakfast. And yes, I kept my word. Two days later, I marched right in and was seated all the way in the back --like, way back. I didn't even know they had more tables tucked back there. When the waitress waved us toward the kitchen, I was confused thinking, "Where is she taking us??" but it ended up being this cozy little nook ....kind of like entering the "Bridge to Terabithia"--but this wasn't a mystical forest ...this was a hidden wing of 50s nostalgia, diner mugs, and sweet French toast bliss I had already memorized the menu online (yes, I was that excited), so I knew I was ordering the fresh-squeezed orange juice no matter what. Also , I got a coffee (they have almond milk!!), and we shared the French toast with Canadian bacon and scrambled eggs , it was plenty for two people. The place is clean-ish ( lots of clutter memorabilia.. everywhere), the staff was friendly, and the music was perfect (Marvin Gaye and Johnny Cash --I was vibing). Decor-wise, it's a lot -- a little overstimulating with all the decorative artifacts for my taste, but I know people who'd love it. I still enjoyed the atmosphere. Know before you go: CASH ONLY This was such a cool spot to visit. As a burger lover, as a photographer, and as a lover of all things nostalgic, this retro diner ticked all my boxes. In fact, the dressings and decorations are such that were it not for the smartphones in everyone's hand, it'd be hard to know you weren't suddenly thrown back to the 80s. They set down plates of their fresh pickles as soon as you get to the table, and I loved these. They're closer to brined cucumbers than the taste of full-on bottled pickles, and it was hard to not gobble all of them up before we got our food. The menu is diner-like in its scope and variety, but I personally wouldn't dare order anything but its burgers. One, because the very name suggests their speciality; two, because such a large portion of their menu is dedicated to their burger varieties, and three, because I was seated with a direct view of the grill, and it was clear they knew what they were doing when it comes making burgers. What sets Jackson Hole's burgers apart are their size and cooking method. Each burger is an entire fistful of fresh beef, which has a goblet thrown on top of it as soon as it hits the grill. What results is a giant patty that is both large and juicy from the steam-like action. I ordered their New York burger, a more classic type, while my husband went a little wild with their Texas burger, which comes topped with chili and an egg. Both were extremely filling and somewhat messy to eat. For my preferences, I found that the large patties threw the bun-to-meat ratio off a little, but we certainly didn't leave hungry. Also note: the prices reflect the serving sizes. Most of the available seating are booths and small tables, but our server was kind enough to let me walk into the back where there were larger booths and a semi-private room (which looked like it could seat up to 9 or 10). Nice ambiance and retro vibe. Brought my wife after visiting her mom in the hospital. I was so looking forward to having their burger. We sat down and the server came over and took our drink order. Waiter came and took our order. 2 cheeseburger platters medium. Simple right? Burgers showed up looking fabulous. Cut it open and the burger was raw in the middle. Literally RAW. Waitress came over realizing there was a problem and took the plate back. My wife cut hers in half and same thing....RAW in the middle. Gentleman came from behind the counter and asked what was wrong. I explained that we ordered our burgers medium but they were still raw in the middle. He asked if we wanted them medium to which I replied "That's what we initially asked for but just make them well done". They returned to our table after a few minutes with our burgers. Mind you they were the ORIGINAL ones we sent back. They just put them back on the grill and served them to us again. So disappointing that they didn't re do the whole thing. Then I look at my cold fries and see raw meat on them. Wow! that just killed the whole experience. So sad that they would do that. Very very disappointed. Oh well this is a one and done. I love both the original Queens location and the New Jersey location--they each have the same great food and welcoming vibe that keeps me coming back. Deciding to rest today before an early departure tomorrow morning, we ordered Uber Eats from Jackson Hole. What a great experience! The menu was quite extensive! It was hard to decide what to order! Once we narrowed it down and made our choices, the order process was somewhat easy... I say somewhat because it took me a minute to figure out how to customize/personalize my sandwich. After placing the order via the web, we watched the process via the app and within 20ish minutes our order had arrived to our hotel. The turkey sandwich was perfectly made to order! The potato salad, mustard based , was delicious! If I had to complain one thing, I'd have to mention that the sandwich meat was room-temperature. I feel like it should've been refrigerated -- but that may have had something to do with the other meal ordered along with the sandwich. It was a burger. Regardless, they both tasted very good! I stumbled on this place while visiting family. It's like walking back in time. An old fashion style diner. Chrome and glass everywhere. They even have working table side juke boxes. The place is very clean and in excellent condition. They even have an electric juicing machine to make fresh squeezed OJ. My server was terrific. He was always around, seeing if I needed anything. I was there for breakfast. I had a "Healthy Omelet". This was three egg whites, fresh diced turkey breast, guacamole, and onions and diced tomatoes. It came with the ubiquitous home fry potatoes and i got multigrain toast. It was huge. I could not finish it. And it tasted awesome. I wrote a thank you note on the check and left a good tip. It's cash only, but they have an ATM. It's covered head to toe with artifacts of the past- bar stool seating, jukeboxes, vintage wall art, Coca-Cola glass bottles, payphone, etc. We walked in for Saturday brunch and were seated immediately. Service was great the entire time, so no complaints there. Like most diners, the menu is extensive and there's something for everyone no matter what kind of mood you're in (breakfast, lunch, dinner). I ordered the Greek Spinach Omelette ($15.75) with home fries and multigrain toast. We also shared a stack of Blueberry Pancakes ($14). My omelette was dry, thin, overcooked, and overfilled. It came with spinach, garlic, onion, scallions, cherry tomatoes, and feta cheese. None of the ingredients tasted fresh... The home fries were decent, but bland. I don't think this omelette is worth $16, especially since it doesn't have any meat in it. The pancakes were good and they used fresh blueberries. We asked for maple syrup (ACTUAL maple syrup, not that corn syrup bs) at an additional charge of $1.50 and they just gave us Aunt Jemima's in a tiny cup. Overall this was a mediocre experience, especially for Jersey diner standards. The higher prices don't match up with the quality of the food. $15-$20+ for burgers, sandwiches, omelettes, wraps, pancakes, waffles, and paninis?! Nooo thanks. So we used to go to the Jackson Hole at 517 Columbus Avenue on 85th Street which had been open for 42 years and closed in 2016. Jennifer Aniston [yes that one!] used to be our waitress early in her acting career. I discovered this as all the other locations were a client of ours at the time [payroll processing] but for this one. It intriqued me as to why not and we started going there to see if the owner could be convinced. Well what's to say about Jackson Hole...if you are looking for the BIGGEST burger [they say 7 ounces, we say 8 ounces = 1/2 a pound!] ever served to you in your life in a retail setting, then this is it! They are massive, meaty, and very filling served as platters along with steak fries, lettuce and tomato + BEST cole slaw EVER. You get free pickles at your table, all you can eat when you eat in like at a good NY deli [i.e. Carnegie, Katz's, etc...]. This location is set up as a classic 1950s-style diner, which looks like it came straight from a movie! The Jackson Hole Diner is a vintage looking diner that includes classic coca cola bottles, an outdoor seating area, and neon lights. The interior of the diner is cozy and definitely has the classic diner 1950's look from their retro diner counter to their mini jukeboxes on the table. And yes fresh flowers on the table. My annual bday lunch is a cheeseburger and milkshake. We've gone to Baumgarts every years for many years. Baumgarts had homemade ice cream, so I was off to trying something new. Jackson hole is an old fashion greasy spoon diner. Decorated in a 1950 kind of way with booths and jute boxes. I ordered my usual bday lunch, a cheeseburger, fries and a mocha milkshake. We get a small bowl of pickles first, they're very good. The cheeseburger comes out and a good size burger. Their meat is ground course and a bit greasy, but I like it, but where's my milkshake.i had to ask 2 more times for it, I guess my milkshakes was my desert. It was a nice day and there are many outdoor tables but everyone stayed inside. A hostess greeted me and directed me to my table. The theme is classic diner with ornamental jukeboxes at the tables. I ordered the Copsegmore burger platter which comes with more tomatoes, lettuce and fries. The burger was huge, both width and height. I had to take a layer of toppings off just to fit it in my mouth. It must have been 4 times the size of a Wendy's burger which gives you more fries than burger. Although in theory, more is better, it did diminish my burger dining experience since it got messy trying to decide how to consume it all. It was tasty for the times when I could savor the taste and not worry about dripping sauce everywhere. They played 1980's music in the background including The Police. It was so much food that, at least, I didn't have to think about dinner tonight. read more
