We had the best tour with Doug. It was my father in law's 80th birthday and he made us very special for us. Even for my other in law who isn't too much into wine. The kids had some smores activities during the tour and it was wonderful. We had such a great time, we stayed for lunch which was amazing. The beef tartar, coconut shrimp, and clam chowder/stew. We were celebrating our anniversary and stopped at a couple wineries which were all wonderful except for our experience at Jackson-Triggs. We ordered one tasting with the wine tasting staff, she completely rushed us during our tasting and seemed annoyed, maybe her shift was ending and didn't want our business. Then she charged us for two tastings and when we questioned her so acted surprised then agreed we only had one tasting. She issued us a credit and never apologized. Not a great place to stop in for tasting or at least not with that staff member. read more

This was my first time at Jackson-Triggs but will not be the last. We stopped here during the ice wine festival and although I was not drinking, they had a great Tom Collin's mocktail. This was such a wonderful spot. My partner and kids came here recently for some lunch. It was the perfect place for the kids to run around and get their energy out. They were also very kid friendly, bringing over a kid's menu, coloring sheets and crayons. My partner and I also felt so welcomed by the friendly staff. Our lunch was served on the patio, overlooking the vines. It was such a scenic spot. We had the tacos and the dip appetizer which included eggplant, tuna, and a wide range of tasty dips with flatbread. We definitely want to come back. The wine flight was a great way to taste the wide range of wines they offer. I also love that you can build your own tasting vs. having to taste whatever they give you. read more

I came to Jackson Triggs Winery for holiday lunch with my family. We had a reservation, so we were immediately seated, though I did see some other tables available on a weekday. The menu was quite limited, which I'd what I've noticed at other places as well, which makes sense since the wine is the main focus here. The winter cocktails caught my eye as there was ice wine hot chocolate on the menu. My whole family was super intrigued by this, so I ended up ordering it to try. For my main, I got the short rib tacos, and for appetizers, we got the cheese charcuterie board, mussels, and baked brie to share. The food came out relatively quick. The mussels were amazing!!! The wine cheese sauce that was soaking in was delicious. The one thing I probably won't get again is the cheese and charcuterie board, very limited options for the price you pay, and I was just not a fan of the cheese or meat. The baked brie dish was okay. My tacos were pretty average. I'm a big taco fan, so this is not anywhere comparable to some of my favourite places, but yet again, we are at a winery so that was what I expected anyway. Now, the star of the show, which is the ice wine hot chocolate - it was waaayy too sweet, which I expected because putting chocolate and ice wine together is definitely a sugar overload. I can taste the slight hint of wine in it, but otherwise, it was just an overly decadent hot chocolate. It was rainy so I couldn't explore much. Others in my family got the tasting flight, and all agreed that it was pretty mediocre. However, the ice wine was okay. I would also like to note that the dining area was freezing!!! The wall for the place was actually just glass windows that opened up to the patio in the summertime (we went in the dead of winter), so the insulation basically nill. We asked the waiter if there was anything they could do, and he basically said nope this is as hot as it'll get which is equivalent to freezing. All the tables around us had their winter jackets in while dining. He did however moved us to a table that was a bit further away from the glass pane, which we appreciated. read more

Thanks to Yelp, we decided to visit this winery in the Niagara on the Lake area. My husband and I were greeted warmly by a nice young man (Angelo). Decided to do a 4 glass tasting, with a cheese and charcuterie plate. We both have a sweet tooth, so Angelo selected what he thought we would like. We started with the mild tasting (sparkling wine) and finished with the Cabernet Franc. What an education! When I tasted the first option, it tasted like swill! Nothing can compare to the Icewine. So we decided to take home the icewine (Cabernet Franc), a Brut and Moscato. I have to say the Vidal was very close. Oh, forgot to mention the Canadian mimosa is 2 ounces CF with 6 ounces of the Brut. This was outstanding! We are not wine enthusiasts, but really enjoyed Angelo's patience and understanding. We would definitely be returning for more on our return. Oh, they are also very nice about letting you wander if you wish. Understand they have a concert summer series. The staff greet you at the large open entrance lobby area and escort you to a table of your choice. Once seated you can choose from a variety of tasting options. A server takes your order then prepares your order at the bar and then brings it to your table on on a serving board. It's a great system brought to us thanks to COVID but it works better than the bar style tastings of days gone by. The building itself is a gem with a great view of the vineyards. Naturally we got some to bring home. Overall, this winery was the best in the area. They have clearly put a solid effort into hiring quality employees to promote their quality wine. This is a review for the winery's pre-concert cellar dinner, which I've had the pleasure of enjoying 3 different times. If you attend a concert at the (AWESOME) amphitheater on the grounds, you can book a dinner and get early seating selection for the show. Great system set up to place a card with your name on the seat back of any chair set up for the show. Then down into the wine cellar to enjoy a sparkling selection as you are seated in long tables amongst the wine casks. Service is always spot on. Food prepared by a local chef with a heavy emphasis on using local products. Lovely local cheese and meats on the charcuterie board to start. All 4 courses are paired with a JT wine. 5 star ambiance but 3 star wine. Really nice winery location- modern, big outdoor seating area. Arrived around 445pm and ordered a flight of 4 samples for $10 Canadian dollars. When I asked for recommendations, the staff was not super helpful. No written descriptions of the wines anywhere. I ended up with a Pinot Grigio, Sparkling Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Honey Ice Wine. Pinot Grigio was ok, what you'd except, sweet and crisp. Sparking Merlot was strange. Pinot Noir was just yucky (I have been spoiled in California). This large winery does no have rolling hills and amazing sunsets but the building is beautiful and people friendly. The winery's ground is very manicured and leaves looks like there is no struggle producing the sweetness but the owner is capable of pulling the quality out of those too-nice-to-be-sweet grapes. The winery is a comfortable place to enjoy an afternoon and it is served by well trained staff. It is a perfect spot to combine with the nearby Niagara Falls so after furry of the fall water you sit and enjoy your time in peaceful and clean Canada. I am not an authority of wine quality but I am sure that you will like something to like very much - out of wide varieties of white and red wines. I liked Merlot (and other wines as well). A friend won a VIP tour for 10 people at a recent trivia night and I was lucky enough to score an invite, so I happily arrived at the Jackson-Triggs Winery for a free tour on a recent Saturday. Our tour started just after 11:00 and our guide was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We were taken around the Jackson-Triggs vineyard and walked through their actual factory. Along the way, of course, we got to sample four different wines. I'll admit I was a little disappointed at the rather puny serving sizes - each wine sample would barely have added up to a single ounce, I'd guess - but the four did end with a generous cheese platter, so that was nice. As for the wine itself, I quite enjoyed three out of the four, with the Shiraz being my favorite. But the icewine... Yikes. Like cough syrup. read more

In winter my friend mentioned to me that he had bid on a dinner at Jackson-Triggs through a charity auction. He had been there several times prior and already knew what to expect which is why he had wanted to go back with his wife. Jackson-Triggs hosts a dinner every month or so called "Savour the Sights" which is dynamic depending on the season and what is in season. I purchased tickets for the May 13th event. The event included a tour of the facility, several tastings including dinner somewhere on the grounds. While I don't consider myself a wine lover, I have throughout the years come to enjoy it more especially with the right meal, it can truly accentuate food basically at a scientific level . Flavors of food basically combined with the characteristics of a wine are essentially just that, scientific but it is still and always will be subject to one's taste. To start off the facility is amazing and has a very modern design. The grounds are well kept and the facility itself is spotless. You'd think that would be a priority considering they are producing consumable products here. Along with the tour comes the education about the facility itself, the history, their processes for the creation their products as well as a well thought out and planned event that from what I've been told is always changing so really like my friend who has been to numerous Savour the Sites events it's never the same thing as far as the menu and pairings go. That's important because this really isn't or doesn't have to be a one of type of tour and dinner. The fact that it's something new each time makes each visit special in its own way. We had checked in at the counter on the right and handed our tickets over to the hostess and she had directed us to the bar in the Great Hall which was pouring their 2014 Grand Reserve Entourage Brut (sparkling). Hors d'oeuvres were being brought to the group gathered around the bar as they returned several times with several different selections as the group was gathering and the initial presentation from our guide had begun the tour. We gathered just out the doors to view the main vineyard behind the entrance of the Great Hall. As the tour continued up the ramp to the upper level and back into the building to where the white wines were produced to an area referred to as "the Atrium". It's an area where you can view the vineyard because there's a large window that overlooks it. This area was large enough to have the entire tour gather and have samples of the 2014 Grand Reserve Sauvignon Blanc which was paired with fried charred scallion gyoza served with spicy miso and lime. The very clean and crisp taste of the white paired nicely with the fried and tangy dumpling. Leaving the atrium we proceeded to the red wine barrel cellar where the dozens of large oak barrels were aging a variety of reds. In the corner, we had 2 long tables set up for the entire group which is where we'd be having our dinner and where the evening would continue. My friend told me that he hadn't had dinner in the cellar before and the other times were on the terrace outdoors so this was a new experience for him as well. The estate on premise Chef, Tim Mackiddie explained each course to pertaining to the preparation and the ingredients for each. The first was a 2015 Grand Reserve Chardonnay poured with the salad plate of seared Atlantic scallops, ice wine infused bacon, sprouted lentils with arugula. The bacon was to die for. I'm not big on ice wine but basically these little crispy bits were taste packed crunchy savory and sweet hinted bits of meat candy. The next course was a little different in that we were served veal sweetbreads (pancreas) with broken up samosas, a tamarin chutney, raita and cilantro. This was not your everyday type of dish with an Indian spin to it. It was very different and the texture was quite unusual. It was paired with the 2015 Grand Reserve Pinot Noir. The final course served in the cellar was pasture raised Ontario beef served with a caramelized onion croquette, wilted greens and Norfolk mushrooms with leek butter. It was paired with a spicier 2013 Grand Reserve Shiraz. We then moved to the retail store where 2015 Reserve Cabernet Franc ice wine with a few choices of dessert. This dinner was amazing and for somebody like myself who is not a longtime lover of wine, it was a good introduction to how different wines can enhance your dining experience. All the varieties of wines served (all grand reserve) were only available for purchase from the on-premise store. Although Jackson-Triggs supplies many different varieties of their products which are available at the LCBO, the drinks served that evening are not. From the tour guide to the presentations of the facility to the food and the drinks presented by Chef Tim, the Savour the Sites event we attended was well worth the price of admission and was an all-around excellent and very favorable experience. read more

We were in a group of 4, and we were all sure we were going to love this place with all the great reviews! Sadly, none of us were impressed. The tasting started out great, with a really friendly, knowledgeable guy who was asking us our likes and dislikes and he would take it from there, but he abruptly left the bar and some lady with a sour puss took over and the tasting went from friendly to non interested and she didn't care to hear what you liked or disliked... None of the wines jumped out at us... The grounds were very beautiful, but the service was poor and that is what sets the mood at places like this. This tour/tasting was AWESOME! Our guide Tamara had a wealth of knowledge that she shared with us. I felt like I had wine class 101 on this tour. I walked away wine smart. We started off with a yummy sparkling moscato that I ended up buying. Then she took us out to the vineyard and showed us the vines. And explained their planting and harvesting process. After some fun pics we headed to the room with the huge metal fermentation barrels. And more wine. Then we headed to the wine cellar where Tamara explained how the type of wood used to make the barrel effects the taste if the wine. And we had more wine....lol. Then Tamara brought out a tray of cheese and dark chocolate to go with more wine. We headed to the back of the cellar where we got to try Icewine......real Icewine and it was delicious. Canada has strict rules on what can be labeled Icewine and I could tell the difference. It is pricey but so labor intensive and worth it. The grapes are on the vine frozen for 3 day...picked at night. Only one drop of juice per grape. WOW! If you find yourself in Niagara Falls head over to Jackson Triggs for a tour/ tasting you won't be disappointed. read more

We stopped here during one of the Wine and Chocolate weekends in February and were instantly greeted by the bartender. She was very nice and provided us with our wine and food pairing right away. She engaged in conversation with us and was quick to provide us with anything we may have needed. We went to another section of the winery for additional tastings. The employee explained their wines and what made them unique compared to other wineries. She provided history of Niagara on the Lake and described differences in ice wines in this region compared to other places. She was very informative and allowed us to sample a variety of their wines. One that stood out to me was a Sparkling Merlot - though I am not a dry person, the combination of the Merlot with carbonation reduced some of the dryness and made it pleasant on the pallet. We thoroughly enjoyed our stop at this winery. I definitely think it will be a place we will return if we plan another trip to Niagara on the Lake. read more

I'm giving JT a 6/5. This is my absolute favourite winery on NOTL having been here twice, both times having a fabulous experience. The building is stunningly modern amongst picturesque vines. Although this is one of the busiest wineries the atmosphere is still wonderfully relaxed. That's because like other big wineries, they don't restrict where you can go according to how much you can pay. The outdoor patio area and the shaded picnic area offers some of the best views on NOTL and you can go sit there whether you buy anything or not (unlike other wineries where I've paid $60 for lunch for comparable views). We saw other people who had packed lunches enjoying the views without the staff telling them to move on! But should you choose to eat/drink, which we always do, the prices are almost too reasonable for what you get with the views!! The cheese platter which comes with goat cheese, double creme brie and cheddar each the size of your palm with fresh baked bread is only $12.50!! 5 oz of some of their best wines is only $7.50 and a bottle is sold at cost with only a $10 corkage fee added on top (most other wineries charge double or triple). The servers are super friendly. Let's just say that enjoying cheese and fresh baked bread with a glass of moscato in the JT vineyards is my ultimate happy place!! Now the generous nature of this place continues at the tasting bar! Most samples are a $1, even for most of the best wines. The pours are generous. Fees are waived if you purchase. The first time I bought a bottle of the moscato, the second time the same and a bottle of the sparkling merlot (yes I like my alcohol bubbly ). Based on my experience I believe the approach JT takes with their winery is to make it accessible and approachable to everyone. You can see that they are really proud of the wine and want everyone to take part in the experience. It's a smart business strategy since both my friend and I walk always away with atleast a bottle. And I appreciate this place even more having experienced some of the other big wineries which were absolutely horrid (I'm talking to you Trius)! BTW they supposedly have one of the best tours but we haven't been able to partake yet. Looking forward to this the next time! We spent $600 for the two of to have a four course meal and watch Tim Hicks! The service was bad! when asking for a glass of Chardonnay or Pinot, the head server or manager proceeds to tell us they have none. Laughs it off and says "well at least you know our wine is good when we sell out". I'm no wine connoisseur but who pairs beef short ribs with Riesling (that were not good to begin with) and ice wine? We asked if we could get a glass of red wine, any kind and we had to buy a bottle. Thought about the Chardonnay situation later and I could have probably went into their tasting room and bought a bottle. The service was not good either. Food was so-so! $1,000 night for what? We have been here twice and both times it was just an amazing night. We did the Savour the Sights progressive dinner/tour and it was just out of this world. The Tour I really like when you get to tour a facility like this instead of just being shuffled into a tasting room. We did tours both in the summer and fall and they are a little different (more outside stuff in summer) but they both follow roughly the same path. The tour guides are all very knowledgeable on wine and the the history of Jackson-Triggs. As you go through the different areas the group stops and has a tasting and a food course which is a great way to break up the evening. The Food and Wine Never in my life did I try so many new foods in one night. The chef is a genius and is always trying new things and so every time you go there are new things on the menu. The first time we went we had things like Beef Tartare, Salmon Sashimi, Mushroom Risotto and some quail egg and soup thing as well as Chicken for the main. The second time it was oysters, clams, a different risotto and steak for the main. Every time the food is super fresh and amazing. The wine pairings they make with each course are a perfect mach. They like to pair with their Delaine wines and they are just great. We are fans of the Chardonney, Syrah and the Gewurztraminer. Their Grand Reserve Sparking Brut is good as well. The Service/Staff Everyone at Jackson-Triggs was great. They took amazing care of us throughout the night and never left us wanting for anything. The tour guides were entertaining, the kitchen staff made amazing food and the serving staff took care of our every need. This is an amazing experience and I recommend it to everyone. The only drawback is it will hit your wallet hard (both with the dinner as well as the wine after) but it is well worth it. I just wish we could go more often. read more

We've stayed at Niagara-on-the-Lake for a night as part of our trip to Toronto. We decided to stop at three wineries on the way from Toronto and our hotel. When I was doing research this trip, I had a hard time narrowing down which wineries to visit. As such, I thought it might be helpful to do a quick side-by-side comparison of the three that we visited. Strewn Winery - My personal favorite out of the three. It was the smallest, and the quietest winery that we visited. The tasting room consisted of just us and another couple. I liked most of the wine I've tasted here, particularly the Cabernet Franc and the Riesling-Gewurztraminer, both were delicious. I gave away the bottle of Cabernet to a friend, who couldn't stop raving about it. I wish I brought multiple bottles to give as presents. Out of the three wineries, Strewn seemed to have the most reasonably priced wine list. Jane (I think that was her name) was extremely knowledgeable and helped me narrowed down the wines I want to try base my tasting preference. We did not tour the winery, but I did notice that the restaurant had a beautiful balcony that overlooked the property. Konzelmann Estate Winery - this was by far the most beautiful winery. It borders the lake and you can get a glimpse of the lake from the property. The tasting room is in this gorgeous structure with numerous windows. There was a small crowd in the tasting room, but Konzelmann also had the most number of staff to help the customers. This was the only winery we visited where we had undivided attention of a tasting room attendant, who was very nice, but did not dispense much information about the wine. We went toward the end of the day, and perhaps she was tired. The wine here were hit or miss, I was not a big fan of the Cabernet Merlot Reserve or the Pinot. Shockingly, I loved the Peachwine, which is something I normally avoid as I tend to go for the drier whites. The attendant mentioned that the Peachwine was their best seller, and I can see why, it is light, slightly sweet and very easy to drink on a hot summer day. The prices here were a bit higher than Strewn, but cheaper than Jackson-Triggs. Jackson-Triggs Winery - the largest space out of the three we visited. The tasting room was in a modern structure that stood out amid the traditional architecture in the area. This was also the most crowded winery, with only one attendant for at least 10 people packed by the bar. The wine prices here were also the most expensive on average compared to Strewn and Konzelmann. Despite the crowd, the attendant was very nice and made time for every customer that approached the bar. Unfortunately, I did not like any of the wines I've tried here. This was the only winery out of the three that I did not end up purchasing any wine. The winery ground was beautiful, and I saw a lot of people lingered on the patio for pictures. We did not have a lot of time, as such, we did not have lunch at any of the wineries nor did we do a full wine tour. The area itself is gorgeous, and I would love to come back here in the near future to visit more wineries. read more

Jackson-Triggs was part of a Niagara on the Lake tour we found on TripAdvisor. It was the first winery stop and by far the largest operation. Despite us being the only people on the tour they didn't skimp out on taking us around and telling us the stories of their heritage. The ice wine sampling was free during the tour and was probably our favorite of all the stops. Be sure to sample the Sparking Merlot in the store and take advantage of the $10 off a bottle per person offer they offer to most of the tours coming through. They had a list of summer Canadian music acts coming in, if you're in the area I think it would be a good spot to enjoy a show. read more

Had a great tasting experience here. The building itself is beautiful and modern with steel, glass and wood. The "shop" and tasting area is elegant. It was $1 per taste and $3 per taste of ice wine. The wines we tried were great and I left with a bottle of the dry Riesling. The pours were generous and were really like 1/4 of the glass instead of just a sip. It turns out the tasting for me and two others were free because we bought a couple bottles. That was great news. We headed over to Lake Ontario and enjoyed our picnic lunch with some wine from Jackson Triggs. Delicious. read more

This place was fantastic. From the tour guide, to the vineyards and over to the wine tasting, this place was a lot of fun. Our group really interacted which made all the difference, and as a result we were all having a really good time. The staff are very knowledgeable and helpful in teaching and answering the many questions that came their way. And I will agree...the ice wine was incredible. When back in this area, I have vowed to return for another session of wine tasting...uhh I mean tour. read more
