We had a wonderful time boon-docking at Strewn Winery through Harvest Host. Our hostess was Naomi and she let us taste some of their wines. They offer two types-dry reds and white Riesling. They also have an ice wine and some nice souvenirs. Naomi explained that they had food but they're in the process of reworking the menu and they hired a new chef. So the restaurant will reopen soon. The actual tasting room was beautiful and comfortable. They only have two people on staff so they can't accommodate big bus tours at this time. Definitely check this place out. read more

I will start with the positive..... The food and wine were both very good. Our waitress was excellent. The negative......Our sommelier was very knowledgeable, however I was very insulted that he twice presented the 2 men in our foursome with complementary samples of wine, but nothing for the 2 women. He actually walked over to our lunch table with 2 glasses of wine, gave them to the men, and walked away. He did not acknowledge the women at all. I would not go back to that winery for that reason. But the beauty of being smaller, the services so much more personal. 50 cents per tasting is well worth the price, to experience quite a few of their offerings that only available at their winery store. We've stayed at Niagara-on-the-Lake for a night as part of our trip to Toronto. We decided to stop at three wineries on the way from Toronto and our hotel. When I was doing research this trip, I had a hard time narrowing down which wineries to visit. As such, I thought it might be helpful to do a quick side-by-side comparison of the three that we visited. Strewn Winery - My personal favorite out of the three. It was the smallest, and the quietest winery that we visited. The tasting room consisted of just us and another couple. I liked most of the wine I've tasted here, particularly the Cabernet Franc and the Riesling-Gewurztraminer, both were delicious. I gave away the bottle of Cabernet to a friend, who couldn't stop raving about it. I wish I brought multiple bottles to give as presents. Out of the three wineries, Strewn seemed to have the most reasonably priced wine list. Jane (I think that was her name) was extremely knowledgeable and helped me narrowed down the wines I want to try base my tasting preference. We did not tour the winery, but I did notice that the restaurant had a beautiful balcony that overlooked the property. Konzelmann Estate Winery - this was by far the most beautiful winery. It borders the lake and you can get a glimpse of the lake from the property. The tasting room is in this gorgeous structure with numerous windows. There was a small crowd in the tasting room, but Konzelmann also had the most number of staff to help the customers. This was the only winery we visited where we had undivided attention of a tasting room attendant, who was very nice, but did not dispense much information about the wine. We went toward the end of the day, and perhaps she was tired. The wine here were hit or miss, I was not a big fan of the Cabernet Merlot Reserve or the Pinot. Shockingly, I loved the Peachwine, which is something I normally avoid as I tend to go for the drier whites. The attendant mentioned that the Peachwine was their best seller, and I can see why, it is light, slightly sweet and very easy to drink on a hot summer day. The prices here were a bit higher than Strewn, but cheaper than Jackson-Triggs. Jackson-Triggs Winery - the largest space out of the three we visited. The tasting room was in a modern structure that stood out amid the traditional architecture in the area. This was also the most crowded winery, with only one attendant for at least 10 people packed by the bar. The wine prices here were also the most expensive on average compared to Strewn and Konzelmann. Despite the crowd, the attendant was very nice and made time for every customer that approached the bar. Unfortunately, I did not like any of the wines I've tried here. This was the only winery out of the three that I did not end up purchasing any wine. The winery ground was beautiful, and I saw a lot of people lingered on the patio for pictures. We did not have a lot of time, as such, we did not have lunch at any of the wineries nor did we do a full wine tour. The area itself is gorgeous, and I would love to come back here in the near future to visit more wineries. read more

Had lunch in winery restaurant, service was great and nice. We had Salmon chowder, Cabernet beef ragout($19) and provencale pizza($17). They were all well prepared but I was bit disappointed. This could possibly be my favorite winery of all time. Definitely as good as Napa valley, but cheaper! Their riesling is so fantastic. I usually go for cab sauv, but the woman helping us recommended the riesling. It was not sweet and really smooth. I could drink it all day long. I tried 6 wines and loved every. Single. One. It was hard to pick what to buy bc we had to fit everything in our suitcase. Looks like you can order wine but their site is now set up for purchases so you have to call. Boo. We came in winter, and this was my favorite winery of the 3 we visited (also went to Konzelmann and Hinterbrook). Interior is nice and new looking. Tastings are separate from the wine shop which was nice. The lady helping us was so nice and helpful. There is also a place in the same building where you can take cooking classes. This winery was a mixed experience for me and my partner. While all the wines we sampled were great, it took a long time for us to get service and another couple who had just arrived were acknowledge before us. We were left wondering if we were being ignored because we were a young lesbian couple. The service staff caught us just as we were about to leave the tasting bar, and were friendly enough about pouring us wine, but there was a significant difference between the quality of service the older couple next to us received as they were guided through the tastings. Might be a one off experience or a problem with just one server. Definitely felt odd to not even be acknowledged by any servers until we were about to give up. But the wine was good, so ‍ read more

Good little winery that's not too crowded like some of the bigger wineries on NOTL. The building is pretty. We went for the free tour and tasting that they have at 11:30 am with Jane. Worth a visit just for that! The tour was interesting and ends with a structured tasting of 3 wines. From all the wineries I have been to on NOTL the tasting was the most informative in that Jane actually provides instruction on the method of tasting each type of wine (ie. sight, smell, taste). We tasted a riesling, a cab franc and a late harvest. Pretty good! They have a pretty outdoor patio area for lunch and a cooking school that looked interesting. Worth a visit! read more

A great small winery that we came across almost by accident. Saw the sign and decided on a whim to take a shot. Very clean and tidy. Immaculate grounds. There is also a cooking school and a small restaurant attached so on the day we visited there was a lot of activity but the tasting room in the back was not very busy at all at the time. Shared a tasting and the wine is quite good. Easily the best winery we encountered on our impromptu tour of the Ontario Wine Country. We are suckers for a good Cabernet Sauvignon and the one from Strewn is as good as any. They have made a sizable investment putting together a quality property and it shows in all areas. Too bad its so far away as it would be a great place to visit regularly. It was the second of four wineries we visited that day and would have stayed much longer if we hadn't felt a need to get back on the road to make sure we saw a sufficient number of places. read more

Had an absolutely wonderful day of wine tasting, education, entertainment, and old-fashioned courtesy compliments of Jane, Evan, and the rest of the Strewn (and Oliv) staff! Jane led me and my wife, and our two friends, through a quick ice wine and almost ice wine tour because they had to leave. Then she spent over an hour humoring me by listening to my Riesling stories and adding some of her own! We truly enjoyed the several dry Rieslings and Gewürztraminers that are usually far too sweet for our palates. (But they also offer off-dry for those who do enjoy more sugar!) Additionally, Jane gave us generous pours of the Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon to enjoy. We are pretty hard-core white varietal drinkers, with occasional reds. Jane blew us away with a Viognier that was so aromatic and full-bodied, we thought we were in Northern France, lol! Do yourself a favor, especially if you think Riesling Rules- go to Strewn, ask for Jane, and prepare to be dazzled! Thank you Team Strewn!! read more

Strewn Winery was the first stop on the Niagara Fun Tours Summer Wine Tour, and it was a perfect first stop! The grounds are beautiful, and the tasting room is spacious and bright. We had a sizeable group (40 perhaps?) and didn't feel nearly as cramped here as we did at other wineries. Strewn was the best winery we visited in terms of being able to accommodate a large group. The sommelier took us through a tasting and demonstrated the "right" way to taste wine. It wasn't long before we tasted all three wines here, and I walked out having purchased a $10 bottle of Riesling. The sangria was also very good; our group excitedly chattered about different fruits and booze to mix with it. We briefly walked through their cooking school area: crisp, clean, bright and airy...like no real kitchen in a restaurant could possibly be! Strewn offers cooking classes for recipes that will complement your wine. Back on the bus, guys! I've got more wineries to review. read more

I got a certificate for 10ppl wine tour for this winery and we visited it nov. the customer service is very attentive and even though I was moving the dates and times few times and the number of ppl in my group was changing every now and then - the lady on the other side of the phone was trying to accomodate the tour to fit all our needs. we ended up being 16 ppl on the tour and we had some great time walking around the winery and having a tour into the cellar with different wine tasting. read more

Four of us went for dinner at Strewn in late October. We were there to celebrate two birthdays. When the reservation was made, and again when we arrived, we told the staff that this was a special occasion for two of the patrons. We were disappointed that the birthdays were not acknowledged by a slice of cake or glass of bubbly to mark the special occasion. In our opinion, this was a case of Strewn being penny-wise, pound foolish. We are local residents and spent a decent amount of money on the meal including two bottles of wine. To make things worse, one of our party took the time to send an email the next day to express our disappointment in a very polite manner and never even had a response. The food was pretty good, but we left feeling somewhat let down by the restaurant and will likely not return. An acknowledgement or an apology would have made all the difference. read more

Strewn Winery was my first winery tour ever, so for those who visit vineyards a lot, the experience might be a bit different. The tour guide was fabulous and the tour totally went beyond my expectations. I learned a lot of interesting facts about wine. And the wine we tasted was amazing! After the tour we were dropped off in the "Tasting Room" where we continued sampling wines, including a delicious spiced mulled wine and an amazing amazing red ice wine (wow!). I ended up buying a Gewurztraminer that wasn't sold in the LCBO (Ontario's booze palace). Can't wait to drink it! read more

Crostini should be toasted bread but because what was prepared was sitting for a few hours it was spongy toast with an ok topping except for the garlic hummus that gave it a "feet" note, yes what you walk on. This is a pretty small winery in comparison to some of the competition in NOTL, but they do a good job of holding their own. The wine tour took place in a garage area which is where they store the wine. We tried a riesling which I didn't like (but most others did), a cab sauv (which was decent), their ice wine (pretty good!) and a hot mulled wine which was pretty bad. I don't recall anyone liking it, though it smelled amazing. The tour was short and sweet, which I liked and then we were escorted to the gift shop before we left. The wines are a good price if you like their brand. Definitely way cheaper than you'd see at LCBO. read more

We spent a beautiful day in wine country going from vineyard to vineyard on a Sunday afternoon. We had a small bag of dry beef jerky in the car to hold us over until dinner, but little did we know that we would be continuing to eat dead dry meat at Strewn. We ordered the French Pork Chop and were served a sole of combat boot cooker within an inch of its life. Nice enough place, but I think it was a bad day for them. read more

Went to the winery and restaurant today with my beautiful wife. We are visiting from Montreal and decided to go out for Lunch. We ordered a platter (tray with meats, cheeses and pickled vegetables) and also we had three different tapas. For the Tapa's we tried the lobster macaroni, the lamb and we had this other one with a beef and fois gras. All three were visually stunning and delicious. We also ordered desert (I had a trio of crème brûlée) which once again looked like something on the cover of a magazine and tasted absolutely delicious. My wife had a sort of apple fritter pie thing with ice cream which was also visually stunning and tasted amazing. The service we had at the wine tasting and the restaurant was second to none. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and clearly loved their jobs which is always a good sign when you are out eating. My wife and I love to dine out and I have to say that this restaurant exceeded all expectations. I would consider it to be one of the best meals I have ever eaten at a restaurant. I will be returning next time I am in Niagara on the Lake and I am very happy I discovered this place. read more

Went to 'oysters and jazz' on Sunday. I have never felt more taken advantage of. The oysters were 3 for 14.99 +tax+tip. They were tasty but about the size of a quarter! At that price I at least expected extra large ones. Try splitting an oyster that size with your companion! Ridiculous! Everything on the menu was over priced but that beat anything I've ever experienced. We will never return. read more
