This was a true hidden gem that I would've never looked for had I not seen an enthusiastic recommendation from the Two Gay Expats, a pair of travel-savvy YouTubers who have explored Mexico pretty extensively. Not particularly LGBTQ-targeted, this out-of-the-way cafe serves unexpectedly delicious Mediterranean fare. After browsing the nearby Mercado de Artesanias, Jamie W and I made a detour into the peacefully bucolic Callejon de Pueblito.
We were immediately directed to go up to the dining room on the second floor where we found the menu to be quite enticing. Jamie went for the MX$234 Chicken Market Salad, a generously robust bowl of market greens mixed with grilled chicken, green apple, celery, spring onion, watermelon radish, cucumber, pickled onion, and roasted cashews, dressed in a champagne vinaigrette (Photo 9). The variety of fresh flavors and textures impressed us.
It tasted pretty healthy, too. I was feeling a bit more carnivorous and ordered the MX$224 Greek Meatballs Pita where they stuffed the grilled yet soft pita with large, savory lamb and beef meatballs mixed with chunks of tomato and cucumber. That was delicious all by itself, but it came with a creamy tzatziki dip, pickled cucumbers, a pesto sauce, and a little bowl of Greek salad (Photo 6). The combination of flavors was uniquely satisfying.
We also decided to share the MX$94 Original French Fries which were lightly crisped and well seasoned (Photo 8). They didn't serve American soft drinks. No problem. Jamie had the MX$54 Iced Americano with milk on the side, while I went for the MX$64 Arnold Palmer which they generously refilled (Photo 10). What a great, unexpected lunch in the heart of SMA and just further proof that this atmospheric city is truly an international culinary destination.
