Vegan here, so I need higher standards of cleanliness. Grew up in Nampa, everyone knew the Jade Garden. They were second best to Hong Kong. On Thanksgiving I came in to ask for a simple fried rice with tofu. After much arguing with the hostess, they finalize my transaction. I waited 30 minutes to get al dente rice and chunks of raw tofu. I have been going to the Jade Garden since I was a child. It has always had the best Chinese food.

We went to the Jade Garden for a Sunday buffet all you can eat lunch. We've ordered take out many times before with no issues at all. They serve great food. But, the AYCE buffet lunch is a bit tired and dried out. We arrived at 2:30pm for a nice lunch. But when walking up and down the isles, you could see a big selection of dried out items. It's truly disappointing when you purchase the buffet to find out it's all been out way too long now. It's tough to find that fresh tray of food that just came out of the kitchen. We did try to make the best of it, but that wasn't really going to happen. You can really see certain food items that have dried out. Some looked like they were the original items brought out when they opened for lunch. To have trays of food sitting out for 3 to 4 hours is a bit too long in my book. I'm not here to talk bad about Jade Garden, they really have good food to take out, but the buffet is really something to take a pass on. It's not worth it. You'll end up throwing your food away. If you still want to give it a try, I wish you good luck. We will only be back to pick up our to-go orders in the future. An average of 2 1/2 stars is failure in my book! read more

I have ordered from them several times, and each time worse. I ordered the shrimp, sweet and sour chicken and chow mien. First it arrived cold. The shrimp had so much breading on it..I had to peel it off. There was a small shrimp inside and it was surrounded by dough. They used to make real tempura fried shrimp, now it is dough balls with a tiny shrimp inside. They NEVER give you enough sweet and sour sauce for the chicken or pork. It is always so dry, and also a lot of dough. The chow mien, was so dry I was getting sick eating it. I had to throw it all away, it was so disgusting!!! Tried Jade Garden for the first time for Lunch today, walked in around noon. Was asked if we wanted buffet or the menu, nice to have that choice. Was seated at a table in the middle of the room, let's get into it! They had a nice variety of options, food was fairly fresh since it was right at the lunch hour, most items I tried I enjoyed. Salad Bar, Sushi, Steamed Buns & Dumplings, Soups, and the standard fare of Fried Rice, General Tsao Chicken, Sweet & Sour, Egg Rolls, Shrimp dishes and selection of desserts. My one thought is a lot of the dishes were over sauced and sticky sweet, causing them to be soggy and no crunch or texture. Sometimes less is more! My husband has been wanting to go here for months. We finally went tonight. To be honest, I was not expecting it to be good, as we haven't had much luck with Chinese restaurants here. Jade Garden proved me wrong. There was a wide variety of dishes on the buffet, and everything we tried was good. All of the food we got was hot and tasty. My family and I have been eating at Jade Garden for years and w have never been disappointed. The food is always hot and fresh. The staff have always been friendly and attentive. Tonight however, I told that they don't allow service dogs to go through the buffet line and they are only allowed at the seating area. They really need to brush up on the ADA rules and guidelines. A. Yes. Service animals must be allowed to accompany their handlers to and through self-service food lines. Similarly, service animals may not be prohibited from communal food preparation areas, such as are commonly found in shelters or dormitories. Please educate your staff about service dog laws. I know some people might complain that it's gross to have a dog so close to the food. Also be aware that service dogs are required to be groomed often. My dog had just been grinned and I brush her daily to keep the hair issue under control. You are more likely to get a hair from the people who prepare the food or have a hair fall off of a customer get into the food than a service dog that is only 20" tall. read more

Decided to get door dash and wanted Chinese food so I looked at my door dash app and decided to order from Jade I've never ordered from them before I ordered a combination plate of fried rice and fried shrimp. The fried rice has no flavor except the soy sauce I just drenched it in. The mandarin chicken.. NO FLAVOR The shrimp... the tempura on the shrimp and the chicken is FLAVORLESS. The Moo Goo Gai Pan has NO FLAVOR . I don't see how they managed to cook this food and have it all taste the same. I used to live in the San Francisco Bay Area in California and have a real appreciation for real, tasty good Asian food. We were sent here by a friend, but we were really skeptical. So far, every place on Yelp for Chinese in Nampa, Caldwell, and Meridian that get 4+ stars has been a real dud and disappointment. So, when we went here on a Tuesday night, we were very surprised! First, Sue the mgr/owner(?), has started having Dim Sum and Fresh Fresh Sushi in the All You Can Eat buffet at Lunch and Dinner. The Dim Sum and Sushi are NOT for take out. Sue has started making Philadelphia rolls sushi... avocado, cream cheese, seaweed, rolled in rice! A real favorite for people that cannot eat crab or crab substitute. I love sushi and for the price, it beats the best places in Boise and Meridian. Very flavorful and fresh. (not mushy, tasteless like another Buffet place across the street and down a block or so... S.B.) Dinner is $10.95 for all you can eat AND individual dishes are $10.95+. The best value is the All You Can Eat. The cuisine is Cantonese and Sue told me honestly that many of the "dishes" have been "toned" down since most Idahoans don't have an appreciation for real Chinese food. Real traditional Cantonese dishes, like Kung Pao Beef, Kung Pao Chicken, and Kung Pao Shrimp just sit uneaten due to the "heat" they have. Similarly, normal Sweet and Sour Pork with the red sauce doesn't get eaten. For instance, instead of Chow Mein, she serves "Chinese Spaghetti".. made with real spaghetti noodles. The real Chow Mein is in the Mongolian BBQ section and you have it cooked yourself. The hotter dishes, like Kung Pao Chicken, are not "chinese hot", but the Jalapeno Chicken (americanized dish) has very hot jalapenos. All in all, this is the best value for the best tasting food in Caldwell and Nampa. We have been there 5 times in 2 months. The food is very fresh, while lacking the true "chinese" flair of traditional cuisine. I would love to see some Hunan, Szechuan, Mandarin, or other flavorful dish. Unfortunately, most Idahoans dont like traditional chinese or good flavor. Most folks we have observed avoid the Dim Sum (in the bamboo baskets) and the Sushi since it is NEW and they are not willing to take a "risk". After we ate here the first time, I told several coworkers about this place. One had eaten here 4 months ago and said it was less than a 1 star restaurant. She ate there a week after we did, and told me the place has gone 180 degrees from what it was and gave it a 4 stars... They have some daily specials, some not on the table, but if you ask, they will give it to you. Specials: Mondays, Kids Eat Free! Get one free children's buffet with purchase of one adult meal. I placed an order for delivery and asked for only chicken and eggs in my fried rice, but it arrived loaded with green onions. I also place an order for some kind of spicy beef stir fry dish and asked for no onions, mushrooms, or bamboo shoots...there were no bamboo shoots, but it was loaded with onions and mushrooms (both of which are exponentially worse than bamboo shoots for me). My daughter loved the food and I liked the stir fry after picking everything out, but I couldn't even eat the fried rice. I wish I wasn't so picky, but I truly don't like the things that I asked to be withheld from my food and it was very disappointing to receive both items made incorrectly.
