    Potstickers, very greasy
    Sandi P.

Food was very bad, service was good but you would be better served to open a can of Chun king chow mein. Pot stickers swimming in grease, mandarin chicken was just fried chicken with tasteless sauce. I was really hoping to find a good Chinese restaurant, even if we had to drive to Nampa. Dreams crushed again. Our waiter was great - William.

Seeded pork, orange chicken, pork fried rice, finger steaks, salad.

Seeded pork, orange chicken, pork fried rice, finger steaks, salad. I was in Nampa to visit family, I saw Hong Kong restaurant and the memories returned of family dinners at the large tables with large lazy susan to distribute the food to patrons of the table. First of all the person who took our order for delivery was extremely rude. We did not get a name but she was an older Caucasian woman. The food was just ok.

This is their "Fried Wonton"? We were charged $10 for 8 tortilla chips? Some unidentified piece of meat in the top corner.....

I have been going to Hong Kong for 30 years. I am ashamed to say that tonight was one of the worst experiences I have ever had from what used to be a great restaurant. Below is a list of items that reflects my 1 star review: 1. When I called in my order I specifically asked and made sure that the pork & seeds would come with hot mustard. A quote from the host "Well absolutely, our pork and seeds always come with hot mustard, unless you have been somewhere else." First off, what a weird and off putting response. Secondly, guess who didn't get hot mustard with their to go order....me. Oh, and I didn't get seeds either.....cool. 2. Make sure you look at the photos in my review. Those are not tortilla chips you are seeing, that is Hong Kong's version of fried wontons. Fooled me. Oh and by the way we paid $10 for 8 tortilla chips... 3. People used to ask me what my favorite food was and I used to respond to them, specifically, "pork fried rice and mandarin chicken from Hong Kong". Now that statement couldn't be further from the truth. The mandarin chicken tasted like the batter was fried in week old oil. It had no crunch, was soggy and disgusting. Out of both items I still had hope for the fried rice. My hope was quickly tarnished as I took my first bite of rice. TASTELESS! I understand that their old cooks have probably retired or quit, but I can't imagine they would change the recipe, right??? Both items taste nothing like the days of old and Hong Kong is nowhere near my top 10 list. Idk if it makes my top 50 to be honest..... 4. Not only did I personally have this experience tonight, but I shared it with my wife, mother and step dad. All who grew up in Nampa and all who used to enjoy eating at Hong Kong. Across the board the consensus is to never eat there again....ever. So, if you are feeling up for it and want to order from this restaurant I have a few recommendations. - Don't.... spend your money elsewhere. Did I mention that we spent $96.00 on our overpriced and terrible meal? Turning of a page, end of an era, good riddance!

Hot and Sour Soup. the color was not right, the ingredients were not right, the taste was not right.

My husband and I are visiting Nampa and he found Hong Kong Restaurant and decided to take me there on Mother's Day because I am from HK. I give it an OK because the service was good, the interior was comfy and clean. The food was "meh". First of all, I think the restaurant name is definitely misleading because most of the dishes on the menu is American Chinese, I would say maybe a couple of the dishes are Hong Kong. We ordered Hot and Sour Soup, Chow Fun with beef and Mongolian Chicken. The Hot and Soup was the worst I've had - the flavor was fine but it was nothing like a hot and sour soup - nobody uses beef broth as the base and put beef in hot and sour soup!!! The Mongolian Chicken was tasty - my husband liked it. I can't tell if it was authentic because we don't have Mongolian Chicken in Hong Kong and I have never ordered it. The Beef Chow Fun was bland. The noodle (fun) was al dente - which is a big NO NO in a chow fun dish. Both chicken and beef dishes were greasy. I asked the wait staff for some chili paste because my chow fun was so bland. They charged me $0.89 for the paste! I can't believe they charge you for that, even though it's not much. I was happily surprised to see a Hong Kong restaurant in Nampa but I was very disappointed and I think they should change their name to something else, nothing Hong Kong at all.

CLOSED as of July 30, 2025…read more A couple originally from Portland (I think I have the city right) opened their kitchen offering take out only (delivery in limited area) Cantonese food that was pretty good for what it was. They operated out of one of the 17 ghost kitchens in what was the former CRAVE! Delivery kitchens in maybe 2024. (Honestly, the original owner of this original ghost complex added the naming emphasis but the original line up and the one that followed was a terrible disaster.) Now the owner of the ghost complex is apparently going to sell it. My understanding from the Wei people is they are closing now, they plan to travel (including China) for a while. Hopefully they'll come back and be able to open a bricks and mortar place. PS - Mai Thai that was also operating a take out operative from this same ghost complex after the kitchen fire and closure of their restaurant in downtown Boise announced earlier this month that they were leaving this ghost kitchen complex on July 27 and reopening in a Boise ghost complex. They didn't mention that the Meridian complex was being sold.

I was anxious to try Wei's because the reviews. I ordered three items: General's chicken, Kung pao…read morechicken, and chicken chow mein. The generals chicken was soggy and perhaps it'd be better not to mix the sauce with the chicken, the other two dishes left something to be desired as far as I was concerned because the chicken pieces were too large like two slices and made vegetables were also large chunks. Overall flavor was acceptable. I guess the presentation was a biggest problem.

Never in my life have I ever walked out of a restaurant until this place. We ordered the egg roll (which is not a typical egg roll), it was huge with a lot of stuff inside it and was so big it could be an entree. That was the "better" item. We also ordered the spicy orange chicken. We could not figure out what parts of the chicken it was from, the meat looked so strange I honestly questioned if it was chicken. The breading was greasy & gross tasting (and I'm not opposed to greasy things). We had also ordered chow main at the same time as everything else, but after receiving our chicken dish & waiting 15 mins, we decided we wanted to just leave at that point. While we were waiting to try to get our check, the chef came out to go to the bathroom & his apron was disgustingly dirty. I'm scared of what the kitchen looked like if he was that dirty. When we got up to pay, we talked to the couple next to us & they agreed the place was terrible but they keep coming there (why?!). Writing this to try to save others from the disappointment (how is this a 3 star avg?).

The seats are cracked and the tape they used to repair them was peeling. The Chinese lanterns are dusty, carpeting in disrepair. The greeting upon entering was a young woman yelling across the room for us to seat ourselves anywhere we'd like. The young man who was our server was wearing a hoodie and jeans. He took our beverage order. The food: crab pops, they're supposed to be crab Rangoons. There wasn't any crab! They consisted of a quarter tsp of cream cheese and a piece of scallion. The chicken fried rice was soggy. The pot stickers were under cooked. The lemon chicken hardly had any lemon sauce . The egg rolls were huge but dry. The meal was awful. Our check wasn't itemized. This experience cost us $60.00. Within 30 minutes of leaving the restaurant my daughter was in the bathroom vomiting.

She also speaks Chinese to whomever is doing the cooking in the kitchen behind her that diners can't see into through the high open widow space into it but one can hear the sounds of cooking and Chinese being spoken. In that exchange it is also friendly and maybe even familial. In my book it is the delightful attitude that adds the extra star to rating. And as much as local people are boo-hooing about the closure in this calendar year (2025) of a number of long time Chinese food restaurants in the greater Treasure Valley, from Middleton to Nampa to Garden City and Boise, it seems they want to be super critical of the true little mom-n-pop places like this. Just saying. THE FOOD: This Cantonese - Mandarin menu is structured to appeal to American palates for diners who think Orange Chicken or General Tsao's are real things. That isn't my husband and me given we have been able to enjoy some extraordinary Chinese cuisine via Chinatowns in NYC and SF when we lived there and in Portland (OR) too when there was briefly a restaurant with Xinjiang dishes. But even for us there are things here to appreciate (although, as with all Chinese food places where we do not know the owners personally, we focus on vegetarian options) and if one is looking for Chinese food to take away, one can do a lot worse than this. Dishes (rice included) are generously sized and are in the $12 - 14 range. Noodle dishes maybe around $12. THE SPACE & SEATING: If you are planning to go for the first time, you need to know the space is very small, a handful of booths split between both sides of the room, and a round table in the middle. Also, because it is small, they are going to occasionally have things like bags of rice and other supplies stacked on the floor outside the kitchen. For that reason I am unable to report if the loo is unisex or not because I couldn't get to it on the only eat-in visit because of the supplies that had just been delivered and stacked in the way. And on that note, in the vein of everything being connected to everything else, the owner and delivery driver had a delightful conversation as if they were old friends through this connection of supplier and owner. Our preference here is take-out and we note there seems to be a brisk business for them in that. PARKING: This is a sort of old time Western town themed strip mall in Star (which at one time may have been thought of as that kind of town but which has been gentrified of late by out of state - read California homebuyers) and it has a parking lot. ACCESSIBILITY: ADA parking in the lot. The round table seating might work for a wheelchair user but I didn't look at it closely. Other than that, booth seating. WON'T YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR?: Right next door you will find Sea Salt Creamery + Bakeshop where the owner crafts outrageously good small batch ice cream and also does baking of delicious things from cookies to handpies to cakes to...
