I was initially evaluated by a recent medical school graduate with only four months of experience, who discharged me with a vague diagnosis of "headaches" and a prescription for nausea--without adhering to proper protocols or completing the diagnostic orders I arrived with. The attending physician never entered my room or spoke with me prior to discharge, relying solely on Dr. Zapien's inaccurate assertion that I had presented for headaches, which was far from the truth. It was only after a family member--an experienced Emergency Room Physician and faculty member at a leading medical school--advocated on my behalf that my discharge was canceled and I was admitted to 4 East. Unfortunately, conditions deteriorated further upon admission. My stay on 4 East was characterized by patient mistreatment and a disturbing disregard for ethical standards. My assigned nurse, Branden, exhibited gross unprofessionalism and moral insensitivity, engaging in unsolicited, inappropriate, and psychologically intrusive commentary that had no place in a medical setting. His conduct demonstrated a complete lack of respect for patient dignity, emotional well-being, and trauma-informed care principles. He said this facility was for emergencies only. Well, shingles on the face and around the eye IS an emergency for some people. He wrote a prescription for antiviral medication and sent her on her way. He didn't even prescribe an ointment or drops for her eye! This is not how a medical health provider should treat any patient.
