We ordered a shrimp and clam appetizer for $17 and got 5 frozen shrimp and 6 little neck clams with half of a baguette. A group of four of us came today around lunch time and were given a 15 minute wait. We were given a hand-held alert to let us know when our table was ready. My best friend and I can here for dinner.. staff was nice, ambience was cool.. the wait was about 20-25 mins which was ok because initially they told us 45 mins. They did have a band there which was pretty neat. Now, I wanted to love this establishment. I really did, but unfortunately things fell short.. like the menu - I honestly thought there would be more seafood on the menu; Like a lobster roll, calamari, soft shell crabs, clam strips, mussels. When the restaurant literally on the water you would think that the menu would have a vast amount of seafood. But it wasn't. Granted the food we order was good. I had the crab cake sandwich and my friend had the shrimp roll. We order a shrimp/clam app that was smothered in wonderfulness! The chips that came with both dishes were pretty salty. We go there often for a little change of pace. Unfortunately, the hostess we had for our most recent visit 7/14, was not personable at all, was wearing heavily mirrored sunglasses so you couldn't even tell if she had eyes, never mind whether or not she was looking at you, she didn't smile at all, she didn't speak "to" us, she spoke "at" us and she appeared generally miserable. Really enjoyed getting my drink on with some friends! Great place for drinks. I mean 2 words, rum buckets.The rum bucket was great and the tuna tacos I got were pretty good. The only reason for one less star is the prices. The drinks are definitely on the more expensive side but I mean, you're right in the water so I guess what do you expect. The bartender and bouncer were really nice and funny. The entertainment was all right, classic rock. When we needed a break we just hopped right over to the beach to walk along the water. This place sucks! Anyone of color dont go to this place!! They only serve Caucasian people! I was the only Latino decent there. Drinks are not good. The food is overpriced! This review was a long time coming. I ate here a few months ago and just now got around to posting a review. Let me start by saying it's a nice view and in a decent area. But it's incredibly windy so be prepared. I walked up and it was quite dead. As in waiters standing around doing nothing. I stood around for 10 minutes before I was seated. My waiter didn't come to my table for over 35 minutes. No water, no "hey it's crazy we are sorry" nothing, acted like I had inconvenienced her. I ordered a drink, which was completely forgettable. I ordered the clams and shrimp, which was actually decently tasty, but the portions were about 3 shrimp and 3 clams and they were NOT large. For 15+ dollars you'd expect more. I than ordered the Mahi tacos. I was served 3 tacos, absolutely disheveled and the mahi on each taco was about the size of a tootsie roll with two of those in each. They added a wasabi sauce which made it borderline inedible due to the heavy handed saucing. I won't eat here again sadly and will let others know to avoid it. read more

Stopped in for a lunch while I was on the road working. Had the tuna tacos and they were stellar. A little heat but great flavors. The appetizer of chips and pico were good. The amount of pico was limited and the small cup large chips made it slightly difficult to eat. The view and atmosphere is amazing. The numerous fans on the railing helps keep the air moving and cool. The umbrellas add great shade. Service was nice and helpful with the menu. Nice outdoor tikki bar atmosphere, but disappointing that the beach project prevented good views of the bay beach while enjoying a beverage & bar food. Also disappointing that one now has to pay for parking in that area @ $3.00 per hour, which is pretty steep considering it's not an ocean beach town. Otherwise service by young adults is very good. I have a feeling that the obstructed beach view & new parking fees will deter regular patrons from going there, and may decide to go to the places in the Atlantic Highlands instead. read more

Location, Location, location. It's all about the gorgeous view. Union Beach is a weird little town. Nothing here but this place and a small beach area. We are not from around here. Just wanted to find a place on the water for lunch before driving back home. The food was less than average and the service was awful. First Sunday of summer vacation, hardly anybody here and it took waaaay too long for a burger and a chicken wrap. I've never seen so many people standing around doing nothing at a joint that should be hopping. The bar looks fun, but we just went for lunch. An hour a half for a burger is just crazy, when the place isn't busy. I'd come back to hang at the bar because of the view. But I wouldn't eat here again. This place is over-rated. The atmosphere is eye-catching and interesting yet very windy. It's literally on the water. We went here during lunch hours and the restaurant side of it wasn't really busy; the bar was. Their was more than enough staff that was working and there was about 75% of the tables available. Yet, there was about five staff members waiting around looking for something to do. I had to walk up and ask the hostess to physically seat us at an open table. She sat us at a remote location and I had to tell her "no, were sitting over there" and sat there. We ordered and the food came to us, tasted it, and it's just mediocre. I used to come here all the time when I was a little and haven't been here in about ten years, so way pre-Sandy. The food was okay at the time, you just had to stick to a few basics and you'd be alright. The atmosphere was always great, even if the weather was a little iffy, as there were plastic sidings and a roof over the back portion of the restaurant. I was in for quite a shock when I arrived last night, the entire restaurant is outdoors! It's a wonderful, sprawling area with a great bar, picnic benches, bar tables and even fire pits for when the weather is a bit cool. Then in a separate section is the dining area that you put your name down for to wait. The really neat thing about this area is there's not one bad seat in the house. You're always against the railing to look down at the water. You also have a clear view of the Verazzano bridge and the New York skyline. Wait was about half hour-forty five minutes, it was nice to hang at the bar with a drink while waiting. The hosts/hostesses have a great system where they write the name down on a whiteboard so people can see as well as hear when a name is up for a table. Service was very nice, but just very slow. Maybe they were short-staffed. Food was outrageously good. Like, I was surprised how good it was. Menu is relatively small, but what they do make, they make well. We got the ahi tuna nachos, which was our favorite by far, and was a great big portion. It had tuna, napa cabbage, freshly made wontons, and a wasabi dressing. It reminds me a lot of the tuna appetizer that Houlihan's has. We also got the oaxaca shrimp with tomatoes, cilantro, jalapeño and avocado. It tasted just like a shrimp gazpacho soup and I mean that as a high praise, it was fabulous and it was absolutely clear they used Jersey tomatoes. Dinner I had a crab cake sandwich that was pretty good - I ate it without the bun. I wish it came with a wedge of lemon but wasn't too much of an issue since I just used one from another's plate. This place was such a home run. Since this place is all about the atmosphere I kept my expectations low on the food front and they were completely blown out of the water. I am just sad I waited till the end of the season to come here. I can't wait to come back next summer. read more
