My boyfriend has been talking about this place since he drove through Billings back in summer of 2018, and has constantly said it's the best steak he's ever had. Every steakhouse we go he says, "Well it's good, but not as good as the steak in Billings, Montana". Well, his word sure lived up to the hype. Driving across the northern states and we wanted a good Montana steak. Found Jake's through yelp and the desk attendant at the hotel said that many guests rave about it. I want to touch on two things. The yelp description and the food. The food was delicious. If you want to spend $35-60 on a steak I recommend this place! The bar menu is a little more similar to the cost description on yelp, the main dinner menu is more costly. My husband and I both had the 8oz sirloin, which was cooked perfectly, came with a salad and a side option. I had a loaded baked potato and he had the garlic mashed potato. We enjoyed our meals. My complaint, if you will, is about the yelp description. I They are not very kid friendly, which is what we look at when deciding where to eat based on yelp. There is no kids menu- our two split a chicken tender meal from the bar menu. However, they enjoyed their food, but I would not call this kid friendly. read more

Waiter didn't bring drink got excuse he "didn't" know had to get big rock himself to take to the bar for drink. Food arrived before drink did asked for lemons to go with water never got it. I previously wrote this review but do not see it, so to insure its posted, I'm writing it again. Last night my friend who's from Billings decided to go to Jake's West End for dinner. He's eaten here many times however this was my first visit here. Upon arrival we noticed there were not many people dining however we were seated at a table for 4, instead of a table for 2. We placed our cocktail order. Our waiter delivered our cocktail & immediately left our table. Upon return, I had to ASK for a napkin for our cocktail. We placed our orders and after eating 2 bites of my steak that was over cooked, 2 bites of my baked potato and later 1 bite of my dessert, I became extremely sick. I was hot, sweating and nauseous. My friend complimented the waiter on how good his food was and I immediately threw up at the table because I couldn't make it to the restroom. A woman came to our table & I concluded she was the manager and asked IF WE HAD TAKEN CARE OF OUR CHECK AS IF WE WERE TRYING TO GET A FREE MEAL. I couldn't address her unprofessional behavior because I was so sick. She asked if I were allergic to anything but because I was so sick, I could only respond by shaking my head to say no. She asked if I'd like some ice and provided a bag for me. Upon leaving the restaurant I made it to the restroom & threw up again. By the time we arrived home, my friend stomach was so upset, he was in the restroom moaning & groaning for an hour, and I threw up again. Thank God his condo has 2 bathrooms. During my 1 month visit this time, I've dined at many restaurants but the service and food at Jake's West End was THE WORST. I WILL NEVER DINE AT OR RECOMMEND THIS ESTABLISHMENT TO ANYONE. My wife and I grew up and Billings and raised our family there. We have moved several times over the past ten years and came back in July to visit family. We decided on Jake's Bar & Grill on the west end for a special night with family, in spite of the fact that it was rather expensive. Big mistake! The service started well. The salad was good and then the steaks arrived. Maybe I'm old and out of touch, but I think there should be certain expectations when you buy a $50 steak. They were edible but NOT great. They were cooked well but rather tough. I complained to the waitress and she told her manager. He came to our table and, with no apology, took my steak and baked potato back to the kitchen. He said I would get my replacement in 10 to 12 minutes. A half hour later, after everyone else was finished eating, my steak arrived. It was better but still not better than much cheaper steaks that I have had in my life. I was done complaining until I tried the baked potato. HE BROUGHT ME BACK THE SAME BAKED POTATO HE HAD TAKEN FROM ME A HALF HOUR BEFORE BUT DIDN'T EVEN BOTHER TO HEAT IT UP AND PUT MORE BUTTER AND SOUR CREAM ON IT1 I was angry and told him so. I travel a lot for work so I'm privileged to go to some nice restaurants. I've been here before but wow has the service went down hill. I sat at the bar, had an old fashioned...well, it was kind of an old fashioned...would not recommend. I would like to say I tried the food but the bartender never came back to ask how my drink was, if I wanted another, to refill my water or even offer a menu. I finally flagged down another bartender...when they weren't busy talking to one another to close out my tab which of course I left no tip as the service was terrible. I always try to have dinner here when I am in town. And for good reason! I always love the friendly and speedy service, delicious steak and Mouthwatering dessert. Due to COVID, the menu was slimmed down from what I remember. However, they made sure to keep the best selections! I always go for a filet, as it is always soooo tender. Out of all the places I have eaten at while in Billings this was the best in the area I stayed in. I was skeptical I tried going the day before but I was turned off by the loud personal conversation the two hostesses were having while I was standing their. So I walked off and went to Ten and had salty fries great service though. I was not happy with the meal at Ten the salad I wanted could not be made with arugula. The meal at was nothing to write home about. I went back to Jakes to give it another try I saw they had prime rib and it came with a side. Oh and it was not $78 it was $28 that was a score. I was seated in the restaurant I asked not to be in the lounge I don't drink and I feel weird being in a lounge alone while not drinking. I had a sweet server with short blond hair she was very attentive. She told me the specials even going over the 4O bone in rib-eye I said yeah that's too much. I ordered the smaller prime rib I asked if they had rare or medium rare she went back and said yes there is a lot in the kitchen. I ordered it rare with a side salad and backed potato I wanted to order the French onion soup it's a favorite of mine. The house bread was alright it came with whipped margarine not my favorite. The salad was good simple crisp lettuce grape tomato and cucumber slices. The prime rib was good it needed a little salt it was seasoned with salt but it's on the outside so it did not make its way in to the meat. I was happy with my meal I did not finish it and could not take it back to my hotel the posh hotel did not have an in room refrigerator. I did see some desserts they looked good but much to big I was told about the cream brûlée so I got that it was good silky and not heavy but still very much a custard mmm non frozen French vanilla ice cream with a candy crust. And some strawberries the only fruit I had for the past 5 days. The bill was not had at all the food was very good and the servers there are attentive. I strongly recommend this restaurant far and above the others in the area. I heard stacked is good too. Walkers is across but it costs a lot more abd they don't have traditional stack house items. There is a place called Buffalo something but that is date night once a year kind of prices not I'm here for work until I get to go home prices.
