I had hoped for a rib-eye or a prime rib and was disappointed to see that the menu photos I found online were out-of-date and that they no longer offer these items on a regular basis. The only steak on the menu was an 8oz sirloin. This didn't appeal to me, so I ordered a shrimp alfredo special. The shrimp were overcooked and the toast was burnt. The service was friendly and reasonably prompt. The pricing is reasonable, but they will charge you extra if you use a credit card. read more

Food Burnt, some tasted the flavor of dog food and smelled of it. Very expensive for what food was on the menu. Mentioned and no response. Took FOREVER! They were busy but had plenty of staff. We were there over an hour. If you ask why we didnt leave...it was the only place open and we could not drive to Billings. The $2 jello shots were the size of the cup they put medicine to give you at the hospital. The staff was.very very loud with the patrons. We had a big group of friends and family from all over. The service was pretty decent for being on the patio. Do not drink the water! Smells and taste like straight up ass! Straight from the Yellowstone downstream of the shit palace in Billings. The food all around was pretty decent. I got the porkie sandwich and it was great! I have never in my life been treated with the most disrespectful waitress in my life yesterday. Usually, we don't have an issue with the food and atmosphere here, but this waitress was nothing but rude and snotty. We had to get our own napkins, condiments and waited 45 minutes for our food which she chose to argue with us about and didn't bother to communicate a thing about our service. Each time we looked for her, she was behind the bar, eating and drinking. After the type of service we received, she didn't deserve the tip she did and had the audacity to come back and ask us if we wanted it back. We don't typically tip like this as we know the service industry relies on tips for their livelihood. Needless to say, if an establishment has staff like this, you can guarantee we won't be back! read more

If I could give this place negative stars, I would. We walked in and were told to sit wherever we wanted. We sat down and watched 2 hostesses doing nothing but walking around and looking around the restaurant. They made it a point not to make eye contact with any of the patrons, who were all waiting patiently. 5 minutes went by. Then 10. Then 15. We finally asked a hostess if we could get some service, and she responded she would send someone over. We watched as the server (who had not even taken our drink order) took an order from the table behind us. Mind you, we were there before they were. At close to 20 minutes we were over it, and left HANGRY. I can't critique the food because we were never served, but even if it was a 5 star restaurant it is pitifully managed with crappy staff. Do yourself a favor and skip this place. We went right down the road to The Blue Cat where we were welcomed warmly and had our orders taken almost immediately. read more

Hidden Gem!!! Excellent restaurant 10miles outside of Billings. Worth the trip :) came in on a Monday and had the Grilled Prime Rib, was to die for 14oz for $26.95. Also comes with a side of soup or salad and 2 sides (steamed veggies, baked beans, coleslaw, rotate cheese, baked or mashed potatoes, potato salad or fries. I can't believe I forgot to review this. Strange as it seems, Montana has become a regular destination for me. Even more strange, I absolutely adore it. Places like this are part of the reason. Just outside of Billings, this treasure is hidden in a quiet community that sits along the Yellowstone River. My Montana relatives say this is the best steak around (and there is a lot of good steak here). I've only tried a couple other places in Billings, but as of now, I agree. First, make sure you are lathered up in bug repellant, and then sit outside. While bugs did not bother us on the patio at all nor add extra protein to the meal, you will regret not venturing off patio towards to river to really take in the view...and it is buggy that way. But the view is insane, particularly at sunset. It's amazing there is land left like this that hasn't been ruined by big businesses, buildings, homes, but here it is. Second, definitely grab a patio seat if available. Unlike the hideous east coast, there was little or no humidity in July and it was one of the best outdoor July dinners I've experienced outside California. The service here is incredibly friendly. I mean, it's a cowboy bar. Our waitress was very laid back, yet professional, made excellent recommendations, and knew when to stop by without hovering around too frequently. No fancy wines or cocktails here, but I did enjoy a couple glasses of their house white which was tasty and refreshing. The men of course were able to enjoy their favorite beers. Our party of five essentially went with the same 2 things. Prime Rib or Rib Eye. A dinner salad (iceberg lettuce and tomatoes guys, that's it...hello we're in Montana!) comes with the steak as well as toast and a side. My potato loving bum of course had fries. Crispy and delicious! The meats were perfectly cooked (we all enjoyed either med rare or med), well season and tender. The portions were a great deal for the price. Most of us ended up packing half of our meals to go. Incredibly stuffed, we chose not to get any desserts but took a walk around the inside later. The bar is rustic and spacious, there are pool tables and plenty of indoor seating. I can imagine on the weekends the place is probably packed. I could see myself being a nightly regular if Iived here. Guess I always had a thing for cowboy bars, or cowboys...lol. Nice little resteraunt next to the river. Started with Rocky Mountain oysters, had to see what it wad all about. The oysters tasted like fried beef not bad and no weird taste. Then had a bowl of mushroom soup, WOW well made great flavor and lots of mushrooms. Finally, I had the Fishwich with fries and coleslaw good piece of halibut with all the vegetables on tbe sandwich, beer battered fries and a tasty coleslaw. The resteraunt was very clean and has an attached casino which is nice if you want to drop a few dollars. read more

This is a GREAT place to eat, situated right on the Yellowstone! We have lived in Billings for a long time and wanted a place to take out-of-town visitors where it reflects the West and CowBoys is it! I had the Cowboy Salad with brisket, which was excellent, and added the Cowgirl BBQ Sauce which is very tasty! My guy had the bacon cheeseburger, cooked exactly as he ordered...a huge 1/2 lb patty! The baked beans were delicious and so was the cole slaw. Our server, Devon was prompt, friendly, and very helpful with the menu. We have a friend arriving today from Switzerland, and will be at CowBoys on Friday night for the prime rib! read more

After driving by the Saturday night prime Rib Special sign for weeks we decided to try it out. So glad we did as it was excellent and service was great. Two of us had the Prime Rib which was served as ordered and cooked to perfection. Two had burgers which are gigantic in size and served with plenty of sides to fill a grown man up. The meals are not the same quality as a few years ago. They are definitely on the pricey side for what you get. The noise from the bar or parties doesn't make for a pleasant experience. Nope. Just a big Nope. We began badly and ended badly. It should not take 10 minutes to get drinks. If you're asked if you need anything with your appetizers, like plates and ranch, you shouldn't be ignored and still sitting there waiting 10 minutes later. In an hour, our drink was refilled ONCE. The salads came 5 minutes AFTER the steaks, and only after we asked about it. The steak was flavorless, and definitely nothing special. The fried potatoes had no salt nor pepper. We were clearly not important, as the table behind us with a "8 person party" was openly referred to as the "money table" by the waitresses. While we were there, 3 different tables walked out. Wonderful food here. Great people. Great food. Try the baked beans. They say they are it Bushes but seem like modified Bushes to me. Regardless very very good beans! Decided to try Cowboys last night for dinner. Sever was a bit cold at first but warmed up quickly and made small talk with my kids, she even cleaned up the chocolate milk that 4 year old spilled. We ended up having to leave before or meals were ready and she happily had our stuff boxed up for us. The burgers we got were awesome even after being boxed up and driving home. The kids enjoyed their chicken as well. The restaurant it's self was nice and have a good vibe. The view was amazing and I can't wait to come back and eat or drink on the patio there. read more

We had their chicken nacho plate at their food trailer during the Alive after 5 in downtown Billings. We were appalled at the poor quality of such a simple serving. We counted five (5) small pieces of chicken on eleven corn chips that were barely covered with "COLD" nacho cheese and ??barbeque sauce??. All this for $9,00 !! What a rip off of people looking for a decent snack with their refreshments !! It was an overpriced entrée that had minimal ingredients and was barely edible. This is a place to avoid during the Alive after five events. You will feel disappointed and hungry after being overcharged for their food. read more

20 minutes to get menus and waters. I think they filled up the Kraft of water right from the Yellowstone river. It was gross. After looking at the menu for 20+ minutes our server finally appeared wanted our order immediately. I asked her if they had a porter or stout or anything dark. She didn't know and didn't offer to assist in any way. So I asked for a drink menu in hopes I could find something on my own. 10 minutes later she reappears, says they don't have a drink menu. Onto the food. My husband ordered half rack of ribs and I ordered the sirloin - medium. The ribs were dried out to look at and tasted like jerky. No amount of sauce made it better. My "medium" steak came out so well done it was like eating rubber. I would have complained about the food but we were so done we just wanted to get up and leave. My husband brought me there as a surprise. We drove from west end to Huntley just to eat there and have a romantic dinner. We were so excited to try it for the first time. I have never wrote a review before but I am so disappointed I wanted to warn you to not take the drive for this restaurant. I read all the other reviews, they made it sound so wonderful. I really hope my experience was just a one time fluke. But I'm sorry Cowboys restaurant I won't be coming back. read more

Besides the fabulous juicy steaks and cooked to our liking; They have the best burgers in Billings! I have yet to have an overcooked or undercooked burger. The best all around! And not to mention their crispy and always fresh tasting fries. They go out of their way to give you an awesome experience. We always leave a tip cause they are always on top of your needs. So my wife and i went there to get the prime rib. When we opened the menu there was a LOT of "mesquite smoked Texas bbq" on the list. Being back here in MT after 18 years in Austin Texas, we were missin the food back home so... against our better judgment we went for the $36 bbq sampler. Im not a hater, but Ive never / ever had meat that was more dry than the brisket, chicken, and ribs. Tough, dry and under seasoned. Imagine meat thats been under a heat lamp all day, got cold, then reheated. The brisket was grey and crumbled when i tried to cut it, it was so dry. Then there was the pulled pork, dry dry dry and luke warm and bland taste - terrible - "old tasting" in my wifes words. We asked the waitress if the owner was actually from TX, she said something about him working with Dallas cowboys (?) Either the bbq process (hours of smoke, dry rub, mop sauce, resting meat, etc) isnt being monitored by the owner, or somewhere along the way hes forgotten what TX bbq is. Sad because it is an absolute opposite of what the menu portrays. We'll try one more time but will stick to prime rib next shot i guess. They were very very busy, waitress was clearly overloaded, and rude.. but for the record the bad service is not the reason for the bad food review. It was just that bad. Sorry to say.
