Here's why this place beats out online purchases for the same items. 1. It's local. When you go in you know EXACTLY what you are getting. If it is defective, they take it back. I've made numerous online purchases that were junk or described incorrectly. It's hardly worth the lower price if you have to go through the hassle of documenting, packaging and sending back, then hoping you get your refund or keeping track of the transaction. My time is more valuable. 2. They are knowledgeable and helpful in suggesting what will work and what WON'T work. On numerous occasions I've gone in and received a great work around with electronic mismatches (equipment that needed to play together but wouldn't). Closed during service hours without signage. I was really excited to visit this as it was No. 1 on yelp for what I searched for on google. Pulled in at 12:00 on Monday, closed. Hours posted online said Monday - Friday 9-5 Sunday 9-4 This was also posted in the window. Another sign in the window was posted "We will be closing at 3PM Tuesdays." I am disappointed, that is all. I don't do this often, but without signage or anything about going to lunch or something would have been acceptable. But to pull up and just be closed in the middle of business hours is kinda dumb. read more

Jake would make most any cable for you. I only shopped there a few times but got exactly what I needed. Unfortunately I think he passed away. The last time I visited the shop there was a sign that said come to ........ I Blank on the name but it's another custom shop and he purchased Jake's inventory. His shop it just a little further up the road at Eubank and Menaul, NW corner in the same plaza as Taco Sals'. This guy also took care of me. He didn't have to make the cables, he had them in stock. Jake is a gem, plain and simple. When my computer USB Port started heating up and causing my hard drives to malfunction, I was recommended by a friend to stop by Jake's and tell him my story. He had me do a crude diagram of my desk layout. He was very engaged and enthusiastic and quickly got me hooked up with a StarTech 8 port Hub and some cables that would work best for my specific set-up. Though it wasn't cheap, it was not exorbitant either, and worth every penny. My experience almost felt in an odd way like the difference between buying a bespoke suit vs grabbing something off the rack at Men's Wearhouse. Jake is the bespoke suit of cables, and if it can't be bought he will custom make it in his shop very quickly. So grateful we have him here in Albuquerque! His set-up has more than paid for itself in happy hard drives with no overheating, and you can just walk over to Flying Star if you need to wait for a custom cable. A+++!!!!! read more

Shop Local! We needed this funky little connector for the speakers to our TV. It seemed simple so I ran to Target to get one. No luck. They suggested Best Buy. No luck. I was just about to order it on Amazon when I remembered this cool little shop on Menaul. I went there a while ago to recycle an old printer. I remember thinking I had never seen so many cables in one place in my life. So today I ran over there. I showed the guy the picture of the connector I needed. He said no problem, hopped up and went straight to it. Cost me a whopping four dollars. Amazing customer service and just what I needed!! Thanks for saving the day!! The hubs was already impressed with the service here after getting their help with an old antenna that needed repair/updating. Then when he was installing it he couldn't find a little fitting that he knew he had bought. So we went back a couple days later to replace it. The person helping him told him that someone had found the fitting on the ground outside the store & returned it to the desk. Needed a cable to connect our new HP laptop to our Century Link WiFi Router. Went to the bigger stores, but they had no idea on the type of cable that would work, and they had limited inventory on stock. Jake is extremely knowledgeable. He has hundreds of cables on stock in the store. He immediately knew what we needed and went over to a rack and secured the proper cable; and, unlike the bigger stores, he will take the time to actually talk to you and explain how these things work. Great selection and service, but the prices are a bit much compared to what I expect to pay for these items. I understand it's hard making it as a local bricks and mortar business but I had a hard time justifying paying some of the prices he was asking for things. I expect and I am happy to pay more than Amazon at a local business but not inordinately more. If you're looking for cables or adapters or general networking equipment though, he'll probably have it in stock and ready to go, and there's a lot of value in that. read more

I originally gave it 2 stars a long time ago. I believe it was justified. However, I can only give it one more star because they met my needs. And then I went to Home Depot and saw that Home Depot offered the same item at a fraction of the cost. I mean like 1/20th of the price. So, I guess one can compare them to movie theaters that make their profit from the popcorn, soda, and candy because it is priced so high. I've had absolute disgust for this company. The owner is very condescending and doesn't really explain anything. I've been to other repair shops in town there they help you understand the problem. Jake sells awesome equipment. But for me, the best thing about Jake is how helpful he is and how much he knows. Before he helped me unravel and solve a very complicated problem, I had spent 13 hours on tech support calls to no avail. They were reading off a script and had no idea what the real problem was. Come for the cables, stay for the service. These guys have been around for awhile, and their new space on Menaul (next to Relish) is easily accessible. They really DO have nearly every cable imaginable, and I found what I was looking for quickly. Jake asked a couple of questions to help make sure I was getting the right cable, which saved me frustration and a return trip. I appreciate that kind of customer service, even for a little $9 transaction. It's a pretty industrial setup, and could use a bit more signage to help customers locate the type of stuff they're looking for, but I was only there 5 seconds before help was offered, so no big deal there. I would definitely recommend supporting this local business; they're selling high-quality computer, A/V and other cabling at reasonable rates, with great service to boot. read more

Well while reading some other reviews there are a couple of constants that hold true 100% and confirm my disgust. Number 1 thing is the prices are astronomical and about double to triple what Amazon, Fry's, even best buy. I went to look for and purchase a special one-off type cable to broadcast to a TV from an android phone. RIP OFF!! I had to buy a cable that's literally a third of the cost than anywhere else and online. Not to mention the arrogance and in lack of other words to explain them straight D bags!!! Super arrogant, think they know everything when they don't. Not by a long shot. When I'm designing something for the Labs or military I, of course, run through the engineering and design before sourcing out the parts. I also test them. So when I walked into this place and was treated like I didn't know sh## what I was talking about and dealt with the owner, who not only condescending towards 'me but had not to clue. This place has always been shady and if you know the industry ripping people off for years and now especially under the new owner Jake. DO NOT SHOP HERE!!! There are OTHER SHOPS THAT ARE SOOOO MUCH BETTER. read more
