@Barbara Piccolo was a truly wonderful representative, very kind and attentive. I was lucky enough to work with Barbara as my Jalen focal point for 16 years. Unfortunately the owner of the building I lived in was not good at all, so therefore Jalen had very little authority to offer support as needed. Ultimately this was not Jalen's fault and yet they get blamed constantly. Wish there was a better way to hold NYC apartment building owners accountable. Yeah. This place is not good. There's a couple of good workers. Literally only 2. The rest are very rude and don't take accountability for their mistakes. They throw it back on the tenant. Also, I guess the process is a super needs to get approval to fix certain things in a building and they take forever. We had washer and dryers broken and it took them a year to order new ones. They kept pushing it back on the Super, that they heard no complaints of a broken washer and dryer (when I called as well as other tenants whom I've spoken to, have complained of it being broken to the company). I don't know how much blame the employees should receive, I personally think it stems from the top. They don't provide a structure and solutions to their employees to solve possible problems. I've been a building managed by Jalen for a little over 20yrs now. Yes there has been some bumps in the road over the years, but everything gets handled eventually. I will say this: whenever there's an issue in my apartment (plumbing mostly) they get right on it. Barbara is the best when it comes to correcting those issues! I had a problem with a faucet in my bathroom after offices hours and she called me immediately and got a plumber to fix it within a reasonable amount of time. It is reassuring that someone actually listens to you. I am confident that the office will get things this done in the future. read more

Jalen Management is a horrible management Company. They do not show respect to coop owners or Prospective owners. I lived in the building for a long time and when I saw sold my coop it was the closing from hell it took months and excuses after excuses. Absolutely the worst, most horrible management company on the planet. The churn is higher than Grand Central. The people you spoke with just months ago there are gone "and no longer work there" which tells you all you need to know about this company. The staff are rude, nasty and aggressive, and are only there to serve landlords. Any tenant needs or complaints are ignored as a routine. The management company is responsive. My husband and I purchased a co-op in Flushing's Blossom Gardens complex. The process was fairly smooth Jalen Management provided everything we needed to the mortgage bank, TD. After the purchase we had work done on the apartment. Our contractor worked with the management company and the process was smooth sailing from there too. Aside from covid happening and the city shutting down, which was not Jalen's fault, the process went well. Our contractor finished up the work and we never had any issues. Except the super didnt know about the work, which was quickly resolved with our contractor and Jalen. The key is that I remain as stress free as humanly possible. Closing. Having a new mortgage and construction work and covid shut downs are all stressful, so I'm glad I have been able to keep my sanity as far as Jalen is concerned. read more

This place is infested with roaches. I literally have panic attacks waking up to see them. I try to keep my place as clean as possible and I am not a dirty person. The monthly exterminator said that other tenants have the same issue. This is sad. read more

Everybody who works there is a sweetheart, especially Barbara, who always gives me personal attention and care whenever I need it. Any time I have had any sort of problem in the apartment, they are always there to help and fix the problem ASAP, sometimes even that same day!! They are super attentive and helpful, and you could tell that they genuinely care about you and want you to live in the best possible conditions possible. Jalen Management and the employees who work there are by far the most unprofessional, rude, spiteful, and unhelpful people I have ever encountered. You will receive better service at a 24 hour McDonalds on a Saturday in the city. Michelle Demasi, Christine Champeris, and others at the company lack any common sense or basic skills like answering a phone call or resolving literally any issues. I was threatened that I would have to get rid of my very friendly, blind dog because another neighbor complained ONCE of hearing her barking OUTSIDE, during regular hours. This was the final straw and I left their building. Even the President of the Board personally called me to inform me that what Michelle threatened was not correct or legal. This type of scum business is the worst of the worst. Avoid any of their buildings or employees if you can. I feel bad for the neighbors I left behind who are still actively dealing with severe rodent problems and other issues Jalen refuses to fix. read more

Christine has been tremendously helpful from the day that I moved in. She is always responsive and reliable - a beautiful person inside and out. Recently, my bathroom was in desperate need of a renovation. Christine put me in touch with Barbara who was both personable and professional. Thanks to her quick response, I was soon contact by the contractor, Vadim, and within two weeks I had the bathroom of my dreams! The superintendent isn't even willing to sweep outside or mop the hallway. Filthy dirty ! Not a single person employed by this company cares at all for the concerns or any issues tenants my have. If you call the office the standard response is "all complaints must be sent by email", of course they never follow up or even reply. Paula Z (owner) or any other employee in over 4 years has never replied to a single email. Just had my 1000th great experience with Jalen Management, and felt compelled to write this review. Barbara at Jalen Management is just plain awesome. I am sure everyone over there is very good but I mostly deal with Barbara. I have been dealing with Jalen Management for about 20 years. I am a real estate broker. I have dealt with many different management agents over the 20 plus years I have been in business. Very few are as good as Jalen Management, and even smaller amount have employees like Barbara. Barbara goes above and beyond to let you know she takes her job seriously and holds herself accountable. Whenever I reach out to Barbara I get clear concise answers in a timely fashion. This allows me to do a great job for the buyers and sellers I represent. In the end it is for them not me. It does not matter the reason for my call or email, she is always responsive. The most recent dealings I had with her was today, literally just now, I am the listing agent. The buyers loan officer called me frantic, she cannot get something from Jalen. I literally said, "I dont believe you." And hung up. I sent an email to Barbara, it is Friday at 2PM, and less than 15 mins later I have exactly what I need. I forward it to the loan officer. I told her, "It is impossible that you contact Jalen and in 24 hours or less you dont have what you need or an answer on how to get it." I know that I can speak for the many buyers and sellers I have represented over the years and say, Thank you Barbara, really. It is a pleasure doing business with you. I appreciate you and your efforts. I know the buyers and sellers do as well, but you make things go so seamlessly that they may not even know to say thank you by writing a review. I would give it a ZERO! Worst management I ever encountered!!!!! I have a problem with my maintainance bill. Sent them letters and receipts as in reference that I paid. They said they didn't received it blah.. blah.. blah.. and keep on sending me the wrong billing statement that they charge me with and on top of that with late payments!!!! Stay far, far away if you are thinking about buying a co-op with this management company. This management company does not pick up the phone and numerous times Susan D. was unavailable for questions. Also, I submitted my board package quickly and they took 3 to 4 weeks to review the information and verify employment etc. Susan D. said there would be an additional $275 for another applicant but it does not say that anywhere. Read the find print because they will try to nickel and dime you unless you protest it. After the 3 to 4 weeks of no response, you have to keep on them to get in touch with the co-op board. They had the nerve to ask for an additional form 4 weeks later when they should have asked us for it right away when we submitted the board package. We met with Sted Tenant Corp co-op board, the owners of 1345 East 4th Street and 1350 East 5th Brooklyn NY 11230, and everything went well or so I thought. I found out the board member is actually a realtor in the 1350 East 5th Street building. I personally think this cries conflict of interest and because they may reject your package if the asking price is low because this realtor, David Maundrell, is trying to sell similar co-ops for higher prices. They may take your application fee money without any remorse, so buyer beware!!! The elevator at 1345 East 4th Street could use an update because there is a jerking motion when it stops.Check the Department of Building websites for any fines and violations. Also, there are bikes chained to the front of the co-op building and this is very unappealing to any potential buyer. Save your money and find a better co-op board and management company. I disregarded the reviews here when I read them a few months ago, but I don't want anyone else to fall in the same trap. read more

One day, I discovered bed bugs in my apartment. Jalen Management told me to call back next week if I didn't have an emergency. I did that, and they didn't return my call. I had to foot the bill to exterminate them myself. And again when the bedbugs returned months later. One day, I noticed graffiti on the wall outside my door. I notified the super, who shrugged his shoulders and told me "the guy living next to you is a little crazy." One day, the key to my door broke in two as I was trying to turn the handle. I notified the super, who was visibly irritated, and told me "don't bother me if this happens again." One day, apparently residents decided it was perfectly fine to leave trash in the hallway instead of the trash room. That became the norm. One day, my mailbox broke; I had to fix it myself. One day, a dog urinated in the hallway and no one cleaned it up for two weeks. One day, roaches crawled up my leg while I was sleeping. One day, I tried to do laundry without rats running over my feet. One day, I left. That was the best day. read more

I really liked the super in my building, but any time I had to communicate directly with the management company was exhausting. It takes literal weeks of repeated calls and emails to get action or even a response on anything. The thing that really prompted me to write this review, however, was the treatment I received when I requested to move to a month-to-month lease rather than re-sign for a whole year. I had been an ideal tenant for 4 years, but was furloughed due to COVID and was therefore reluctant to sign a year's lease on a New York apartment before my future became a little clearer. I completely understand that this decision is not up to building management, but the woman I spoke to at Jalen refused to even pass my request along to the landlord. She spoke to me with such rudeness and defensiveness that I hung up the phone, put my head down, and sobbed. I hope that if the folks at Jalen ever find themselves in the scary situation I was in this summer, the people they ask for help will at least treat them with a little more kindness and respect than they offered me. read more

Despicable, unresponsive, non-communicative, and careless. A sad example of a company who doesn't respond to inquiries of any sort unless they stand to benefit immediately... because frankly, there's nothing you can do about it. You can call or email multiple times on a simple, non-problematic issue and never hear back. Even the easiest little detail or logistics question will be sure to cost you hours and hours of your time, engaging in what feels like harassment just to get a callback. They follow up on urgent issues and have been diligent with some ongoing problems. Any issues/maintenance troubles we've had are solved quickly and efficiently. Sadly you cannot leave a "0" stars in any Yelp review which is a shame because that is all that Jalen Management deserves in the scheme of things and I feel even the single star is too generous. They managed my buildings property needs with high levels of both disorganization and confusion. Paperwork was never in order much less correct and despite what was asked of them would end up costing us money based on their lack of followup, timeliness or processing. As a resident who would call for occasional needs I would be always told no one was available to speak or I would be called or emailed back. Very rarely did that happen so matters always had to be brought to the property board members as a last recourse for any resolution. Their incompetence always seemed to cost owners more money which is hardly the actions of a company working with you. I honestly cannot believe they are in business at all much less for as long as they state. Avoid if at all possible. Unless you want to throw money away. Fortunately my property has moved on from this company so perhaps in time all their disruptions will have been rectified. read more

Not sure why this piece of stool business is called "Management". My cat can manage my apartment better than these people. Makes me wonder how they get contracts at all, and how did I end up with them. The problems started way before we moved in, but now I've been fighting with them to get my moving-in deposit back for over a month, and I keep getting new information every time I call. And I've already called about it over 10 times. They still have previous owner on file after 3 months since we've moved in. Nobody seem to know what's going on or give any clear answers over the phone, and most of the time I get "oh, the only person who knows about this is not in, call tomorrow". read more

When my wife calls to talk to the property manager for our building she is told that he is not available for a couple of days, then told that he was in all week and available to take calls. They lie, never answer emails, and the word rude doesn't even begin to explain them. I've had to chase them down for a number of reasons. If you need something, plan it a month in advance. When it comes to your maintenance they're on top of you like hawks but God forbid you need something. They cost me money in building fines because they lie. They've covered up all sorts of nonsense without any reservations. If you or any one else even thinks about using them you're better off burning your money in the fireplace. read more
