I'm not sure exactly what his course is though, quizometry perhaps? It was a Tuesday night and the place was a nice level of busy, not empty but not packed either, juuuust right. The quiz event was held in what is called the Living Room where the atmosphere is chilled out with sofas and big TV screens. They also have a room called the Playroom where you can play your friends on the Xbox in some cool gaming chairs. This room looks a lot like the kind of living room boy students would have in their flats! Just off the Living Room is an area known as the Rack which is filled with plenty of pool tables. The tables are all still in good nick as well since Caffufals hasn't been open very long. None of those strange damp patches, worn away areas and missing balls, yet! There is a separate girls only pool room which is garishly pink but the Rack looks more appealing to be honest! This area is called Absolute Angels which is a pretty tacky and naff, but at least it's a nice idea to have a girl's area I guess. Caffufals does sell food and cocktails as well as the expected alcoholic fare. Unfortunately I never sampled either of these. I was on the orange juice when I was there so that I wasn't impeded by alcohol during my quest for quiz glory! I'm not sure what Caffufals would be like as a Friday or Saturday night venue when they have a DJ and drinking and dares style games. It doesn't sound like my kind of thing but for your average 18 year old who enjoys the likes of Campus in Glasgow, Caffufals sounds like a similar place at the weekends. I really liked Caffufals on the Tuesday night I went as the people there were around my age and the atmosphere was relaxed and not too in your face for a week night. I don't imagine the same could be said for the weekends though from looking at the website! In case you're wondering, we came second in the quiz! Better than that though, we won first place for the best team name competition. Our team name? It was "Can I get pregnant if you quiz in my arse?"

My second time here! I joined a couple of friends for a game of pool.(I'm rather not bad at it…read moreeither, who knew?!) Upon entering I grabbed a pint of coke (I'm hardcore that way) and headed over to the pool tables where my friends ha already started playing. Since it's the holidays and it was the middle of the day, the venue was fairly quiet, probably around 10 people including ourselves and the bar staff, so we had the place to ourselves. A short while after, it was my turn for pool and as I maneuvered round the table I caught a strong smell of gas (not me, I promise) so I went and told the bar staff who immediately looked worried and asked me where it was and said, I'll be right over to check it out. TEN minutes later she came over and checked it (not that worried were you, dear?) Apparently there is a small cupboard nearby which has some sort of gassy thing in it which wasn't turned off, very good eh? Gas crisis averted, I went to the loo, nothing unusual there...except the toilet rolls are held with massive chains on the back of the toilet wall, which by the way...if you're of the female persuasion is a bit awkward. That much thought or effort should never have to be put into going to the toilet. Just sayin'. Over all? MEH.

The place was great. The rough guy behind the bar may or may not be one of those guys hired to throw fighting drunkards out onto the street, but if so, he was a friendly rough guy who could recommend the right beer along with the outstanding onion rings with a smile on his face and a description of their ingredients and preparation that was straight from a chef's school's creative menu-writing class by way of a genuine love for the establishment's own big circular fried veggies. Our waitress was a engaging, beautiful, well-rounded and very cheerful Sco'ish woman with equal enthusiasm for the burgers and beers on tap. Good service, all y'all! The beer recommended for my wife was a Czech Pilsner draft, Krusovice, a mass-market offering from Heineken that's tasty, if not very challenging. She said it was meh - but she was on the way to finishing the whole pint when I expressed surprise that she'd gone through more than a third of the glass, her usual place to stop. Either she liked it more than she let on, or the day's exertions led to a need for extra alcohol. Mine was a more-local-er IPA that I don't have the name of because I've been counting on the name being on the receipt and it isn't. Darn, because it was tasty and went well with the food and you should get that. So why should an American get a burger in Paisley, UK? I dunno. We were here to join an organized tour of northern Scotland, where we were promised all the Scottish food we cared to mange for the next week, and didn't really want to go overboard; plus, we'd been in Edinburgh the previous few days, and tried some of the local versions of lots of kinds of foods, so just wanted a quick somewhat-familiar bite as a respite. It was the right thing for us. Somewhat familiar, anyway. The burger was delicious, but ground a little differently, so not quite the same texture. It was singed on the crust (mmmm!) but cooked to medium-doneness in the inside (mmmm!). The roll was a beautiful, shiny egg-white-finished thing with excellent texture and an actual flavor of its own. We each got slightly different toppings; even though they had familiar American names, the outcome was just a little different - and seriously yummy. Get a hamburger or a cheeseburger! The fries were potato-y, perfectly done and very tasty. Skins on, peppered as well as salted, yum, get those. My onion rings were among the best I've ever tried, due to the wonderful beer batter. The sauce was OK, not great. Which brings us to ketchup. Heinz ketchup in the UK is just a little different from American Heinz. UK palates apparently appreciate a condiment that's slightly sweeter, with maybe a hind of cinnamon and maybe cardamom. I like it, but it's kind of a funny thing. Your tongue may expect one thing, but since it gets another, there may be some cognitive dissonance going on. Don't let your brain tilt to the "it ain't right" side! No! Gently, mindfully, pull it over to "Mmmmmm, this is good." Because it is. This isn't an American burger joint. It's a Paisley American burger joint. Dude, you're in Scotland. Enjoy it, it's good. Go there. BTW, the taxi stand is a few steps across the square next to the train station. It's about 5 - 6 pounds to the airport Holiday Inn, one pound cheaper than our Uber ride coming in - and the Uber driver was an asshole who gave us a lousy review, preventing us from getting the return trip. Whatever, dude. Sorry you're bitter that you lost your business, but might it be due to your attitude?

If you remember the much missed Fouters Bistro you won't recognise the place now! The Smoking Goat is primarily a traditional pub with cosy nooks and crannies, real ales on tap and in bottles, and a great wee bar menu. The lunchtime options feature rare breed beef burger, venison sausage sandwich, pulled pork slider, smoked haddock fishcake, black pudding scotch egg with whisky mustard and more - all pretty imaginative stuff for this part of the world! Vegetarians are valued customers and it was a rare treat to find myself swithering over the menu. I narrowed things down to the red pepper falafel or the jerk spiced portobello mushroom burger with pineapple salsa. I went with the latter and it didn't disappoint, though I could have done with a few more of their lovely crisp fries on the side. Yay for free wifi without a password. I found it impossible to get a data signal down there so it came in handy. Customer-wise this is a good spot for socialising as well as dining. There are events going on throughout the week including pub quizzes and they have a pull down screen which I think they are showing the 6 nations rugby on, though this is not a 'sports bar' and there are no TVs. This is just a personal opinion, but I'd love to see the music turned down a wee notch to make conversation easier, and the lighting turned up a wee notch so the menu can be more easily read. Despite all the hard stone surfaces the acoustics were excellent. I can see this being a good venue for the occasional intimate music gig. Recommended!

Stocks a good range of newer beers in cans & bottles as well as having a couple of ales on handpull. Probably does cocktails to an extent. Quite a few nooks & crannies to sit in, giving it a nice amount of privacy if that's what you're looking for. I can see how the low lighting would be an issue when reading the menu but, in terms of just being in for a drink it was okay.

I went in for a few drinks last Sunday evening and it was reasonable busy but not too busy; my friends and I found a table quite easily. To be honest even on a relatively dead night you don't care due to the friendly staff and excellent decor. Sometimes people prefer having an empty cinema all to themselves. I sometimes like a similar experience when out for drink. I'm weird like that. Talking of drinks. It's a bar. Why wouldn't I mention ''happy juice''? The wine list is ample, the pints of Guiness superb, the spirits and cocktails are admirable. The food is decent but not mind blowing. But I can recommend the whole menu, but my personal favourites are the chicken fajitas and the exquisite spicy chicken and chorizo pizza. The place is 2 minutes walk from the local train stop so it's perfect for young professionals grabbing a bite after a long day in the city. Weekends are busy but it never feels overcrowded due to the lay out. The prices are a little dear for a Paisley watering hole but not extortionate. The staff a very friendly, not to mention a good laugh. But they are also very efficient and attentive. Excellent décor throughout, comfy leather sofas in the bar area, create a lovely welcoming ambience. The regular crowd is a good mix of young hipster types, 30 something couples and young professionals. The bar is a stones throw from middle-class suburbia and yet tucked away from the main street pubs. So it definitely feels safe and relaxed. For a bar-restaurant outside the city but possessing a classy city atmosphere you can't go wrong. Oh and there's a quiz night on Sundays for a bit of cheesy fun.

Still a pretty new looking place that's bright, modern and very clean, with the weather being cold and raining outside I needed a hot drink to warm me up. I sat near the back area of the cafe where I could see a log burner on display, not sure if this was an ornament but could have done with being lit. I chose the large latte with a slice of the fruit loaf, service was quick but the young server placed my order at the opposite end of the table than in front of me, with the knife being placed blade towards me, I've been in the hospitality trade for over 25 years and this is the first time that I've seen this. In the time I was there that was a whole twenty minutes I was asked for my order twice even though I already placed it at the bar, the confusion was that the servers where not assigned a particular section and clearly didn't know what they where doing. The space is nice - there's lots of room and although it got a lot busier quite quickly after we went in, there was nobody sitting really close to us and it didn't feel crowded. As an aside, I don't often comment on the toilets but I was actually really impressed with the toilets here, they were lovely and I liked the little notice board in the ladies' with local notices on it. The breakfast menu has a great selection, with everything from a full breakfast to pancakes to French toast to eggs benedict to simpler options. And it's really reasonable - french toast with bacon and maple syrup would only set you back £4.50, the full breakfast is under £8. I went for the eggs benedict with crispy bacon, Him Indoors went for the full breakfast. Both were good - not knockout fantastic (one day I'm going to write a book about my hunt for the best eggs benedict in Scotland), but really good and, considering the prices, seriously good value for money. We sat and had a second round of coffees afterwards (the coffee was lovely) and with breakfast and two drinks each for three people it came to around £35. The staff were super friendly, really chatty and the whole atmosphere is warm and welcoming. I'd like to go back to try their evening food as well to see how that compares, but I would definitely recommend it for a good breakfast at a great price.
