I've been playing in adult rec sports leagues for about 15 years now. I've never had an experience as bad as the one I had with JAM sports this year. Sharing this in detail in case it helps others that are considering joining one of their leagues. My team registered for a JAM softball league in March, paying a little over $1,100 for the season. We played only three regular season games -- another three were cancelled and never rescheduled. The refund we received for those missed games was $180, which just doesn't add up considering what we paid. When we did play, the on-field organization was weak. There were no league reps at any of our regular season games, the rules of the league were often not clear to the umpires, there were fewer umpires at each game than were needed, and our first playoff game also did not have an umpire at all. I would maybe say that this is adult rec sports and a few of these issues can be expected in one form or another, but my biggest pain point has been with the customer service in trying to understand schedules, cancellations, game rules, and in general what we could expect from a JAM sports league. I'm still looking for answers here. I've been in conversation through email with the org for six months since our season ended. The reps I've spoken with have all been polite and responsive, but they've said repeatedly that they don't have the authority to make decisions without approval from management. Pursuant to that I've had three phone calls scheduled with their customer experience manager -- on July 3rd, August 5th, and September 3rd -- but none of those calls ever actually happened. I've received neither a missed call nor a voicemail from their experience manager since I first gave them my contact info, only apologies for the missed conversations through email. As I've told them in our emails, it feels like JAM leadership is trying to shield itself from its customers. I don't see why a legitimate business would need to do that. After about 4 years with their predecessor, my team has left JAM sports. We've signed up with a park league that offers more than twice the games for half the price. I've heard that others have had better experiences with JAM, but I can't justify registering with them again given their poor value and customer service. If your season goes south like ours did, you might find that there's no real recourse. read more

There is zero communication with the teams on schedule updates or rain outs. After 4 years of playing softball in the rec leagues for Atlanta Sports and Social I will not be signing up to play for JAM Sports again. Played sand volleyball with atlanta sports social for five years and ever since JAM sports acquired it, the cost has gone up, we no longer have refs for games (we had one game in the whole season reffed), and they just cancelled our league DURING PLAYOFFS due to poor scheduling on their part. This leagues used to be pretty good for soccer, but ever since the acquisition by JAM Sports, its really taken a turn. The T Shirts they provide are cheaper quality, the referees and league managers are always late. Its sad to see, but this is a good example of private equity taking over small local companies. read more

We had an upsetting first night and will definitely not sign up again with this company. We are in a RECREATION softball league aka new players, rusty players, etc. and yet we were paired up with a team of 6 foot+ athletic men who were good enough to be A league. Why they were allowed to sign up for rec league is beyond me and why would they even want to? This caused them to beat us 15-2 and cut our game down by 20 minutes due to the stupid mercy rule. We are there to learn and have fun and get our money's worth, not have our game cut short because a team cheated themselves into the wrong league! It really sucked all the fun out of it. Also, they told us they were drinking alcohol, which is supposed to be against the rules?? And why ask for our shirt sizes when we had nothing but mediums and 2XLs? Why did we just pay $100 each? And there is zero instruction given, you're just thrown in. read more

Rick in the office is really sweet. I couldn't play my season due to a bike accident and he gladly moved me to the next kickball season. I loved the way they handled rain outs by extending the season. It felt like more for your money. They had 8 teams go to playoffs instead of 4, so we were included in that as well. read more

This company is fraudulent and will not refund us our money. We signed up for a full season of volleyball that got canceled. Every member of our team has since moved out of Atlanta and live no closer than 1.5 hours away. Additionally, this company took out $106,000 in PPP money that was forgiven, but will only give us credit for signing up in another league. Again, we do not live in Atlanta. For someone to take tax payer money then treat their customers so poorly that they will not refund them is nothing short of fraudulent. The only solution is to refund the money for a service that you did NOT provide us. read more

Playing any sport here, typically ends with you playing against individuals that work for ASSC, so they stack teams and manipulate schedules to ensure they are set up for the best advantage. Sometimes you'll see during playoffs they rarely verify the roster so they can add whoever. This company shouldn't allow employees to play the same sport that they manage. Its also expensive. I signed up for my first coed basketball league and my experience has been absolute trash! The league fees are ridiculous and we only get 6 games a season! We are approaching the last game of the season and we still haven't received our jerseys! The first game the ref and score keeper was yelling and cussing at each other. Then that same ref a few games later started cussing and yelling at players on our team. It's by far the most ghetto league I've ever experienced!!! I'm kind of surprised at the low ratings ASSC has here. Maybe I've just had a good experience with basketball this season. Yes, their leagues tend to be more expensive than other leagues out there, but the ability to join a pre-formed team as a free agent and not have to worry about collecting money, ordering jerseys, etc. is a nice perk. You can also join with friends or run-it-back with old teammates The officiating is slightly more hit-or-miss than other leagues that I've done, but ASSC is one of the few adult leagues I've encountered that has multiple divisions for basketball (including co-ed). I'm not sure how closely people follow those distinctions (I'm sure some people sign up for divisions based on convenient days and times), but I appreciate the effort. There's also an app (which doesn't do much) and a website which are easy to follow and give you some data on your opponents. read more

Let me first say that I have patronized ASSC for several years, and only just got fed up with the quality of the leagues. ASSC appears to only be in the market for new, first time players, because they focus heavily on advertisement and exposure, yet very little on actual quality of leagues. Advice: Try ZogSports, GO Kickball, City of Brookhaven, Ultimate Sports Atlanta For more information (and to ASSC, if you read this), pay attention to the organization itself: - They often do not communicate with the parks/city to make sure the league has the right to play there or the facilities are maintained or that the lights have been turned on or that the field is in playable condition (all actually happened to me). - They often communicate poorly. whether by shouting at players, failing to communicate rules to players, captains, and many times to officials, or by changing schedules at a whim with no/little regard for previous communication. (Again, I have first hand experience with all these happenings) - They claim to be a social (read: drinking) club, but do not be fooled. The drink tickets are only available for specific times on specific days at specific bars. Often these bars are at inconvenient locations to the sports fields and have their own limitations on these deals. Further, most parks that I have played do not have alcohol friendly policies and will give out citations for enjoying a beverage. BE CAREFUL. - They have earned the moniker ASSclub for their repeated shortcomings and refusal to acknowledge their lowering quality. Sure, they have the quantity: you can pick a league on virtually any night for virtually any section of the city. DO NOT be fooled, there are other ways to meet people and play sports. They will try to sucker you in by offering "discounts," but lower prices for rec league sports are available in other leagues, even with this discount. read more

Of everything I have done in life, I have never had a bad enough experience that I would actively tell people to stay away. I can no longer say that. I have a large disdain for Atlanta Sport and Social Club. We signed up because two of our players are brand new to volleyball and we thought a rec league would be appropriate to teach them how to play the game before we brought them to more competitive leagues. We also liked the social aspect so it would be fun for them and not overly competitive. However, after I see it is all social and no sport. Playing in this league is dangerous, teaches bad mechanics and doesn't follow any rules. They post a link to the FIVB beach volleyball rules, yet none of those are followed. Not even the height of the net or court size. We play on a womens height net on a doubles court even though we have 4 people. Doubles, carries, touching the net, carries, interference, carries, block redirections, carries, setting the ball over the net, attacking serve, carries and especially receiving the first ball on a double touch (open handed receiving) have occurred in 90% of the plays here. Did I mention carries are a problem? I mean not even a slight carry. I am talking about catching the ball and tossing it carries......ITS NEVER CALLED..... These things don't even happen in most competitive leagues. You will occasionally see a touch of the net call and doubles on sets, but other than that these never happen. These are common place in this league. It's not only against the rules of volleyball it's very dangerous. As an example from our second game, a player on the other team dived for a ball he thought was on their side even though it was coming over the net. He went completely under the net, plowed into our setters legs and knocked her hard to the ground. The ball landed right beside of them and the ref gave the other team a point. I asked the ref if that was interference and he said "Bro, he didn't mean to." It doesn't matter. That is interference by any rules and should have been our point. It should have been called so they know it's not ok and discourages them from doing that because someone will get hurt. Another example is when players are blocking they swing down catching the net and following through. It happened twice that they would just hit the net and push it into the hitter if our hitter was close to the net which is also dangerous hitting someone in the air. Once again nothing was called by the refs. Just to give you an idea, in our first two games our "refs" haven't made a single call on anything. They simply keep score except for enforcing one thing. They make you rotate on a side out. That is an indoor volleyball rule only. Only serve rotation is required in beach volleyball, not of positions. I know the two new players on our team will never learn how to properly play volleyball and it's even likely they will get hurt if we continue. In addition this leage is expensive. It cost us over $110 per player when other leagues are only $65 per player. They also expect you to have 6+ people. It's no fun sitting out 20% of the time when paying so much money and then you only get two games in a match where all other leagues give you 3 games. This is absolutely the worst league around. It's dangerous and in no way resembles the sport you are trying to play. I will never again use ASSC for anything and really encourage everyone else to find another league to play in as well. read more

A lot of folks bring up good points about some of the disorganization. I've even experienced it a bit myself, but overall I think this is a great place to play a sport you haven't played in a while or ever and make some new friends. Moreover, you can see that many of these items highlighted have been or are being corrected. I'm excited about what they're doing. I've played on the soccer, volleyball, and flag football leagues. I loved soccer and volleyball; great people and lots of fun. I had a similar experience as one of the other posters about the aggressive play and language in flag football. It was hard to follow some of the refs too. It just wasn't for me; it was much harder to just start having fun than the other sports I've played with them. read more

This company would be so much better if they were more organized. I play kickball with this company and or team, along with several other teams did not get shirts on time. The schedule was put up at the last minute and there was always an excuse or reason that these things weren't done on time. This company is very inflexible with their refund policy. I only asked for somewhat of a credit being that my registration fee was to include "shirts by the first game"...along with referees. Because the shirts came in late, they could have gave me back a few bucks! It's all about principle. A few of the games started late and this was not really a pleasant experience all around. I attempted to come to a resolution/agreement with the company but nothing was resolved. I won't be playing with them again and that is pretty unfortunate. read more

I have played in several rec leagues in different areas of the city, and this is far and away the biggest mess of a league I've experienced. Originally, I signed up for softball with a friend of mine. I was excited because they had a league very close to my home. We attended the happy hour to pick up our t-shirts the Thursday before the league was to start only to find out we were the only people to sign up for our league. Why they didn't inform us of this before then, I don't know. It's not like 9 full teams were going to sign up over the next two days. We were given the option to choose a different softball league, a different sport, or get our money back (should have gone with this one!). We decided to give flag football a try. Now, I had not played flag football since high school (circa 1996) but I was up for a new experience. Apparently, you need plays, planning, and practice to not look foolish. You also need to study the rulebook because there are a thousand crazy rules. But don't spend too much time on that because the rules change from week to week. Because we were on a free agent team, nobody knew each other. Luckily, our teammates were great people, super nice, and fun to play with. The other teams were full of aggressive, tackling fools and our injuries have been numerous, including one guy who now has loose teeth! Game times have been changed last minute, communication is a mess, and we don't even know how many players are on our team (it's not enough since the most that have ever shown up is 9). On top of that, if someone needs a sub, they have to pay to play. I've never experienced that before, and given that we don't even have a full team, it seems a bit ridiculous. All in all, this has been a hot steaming mess. Will definitely not be signing up to play with them again. read more

This organization is awful. Not only it is overpriced to play 7 games (i.e. $80 per person for 7 games) with a nasty cotton tshirt that no one wants to wear, the communication/organization is terrible. They won't post the schedule until the day before. They won't return emails/calls with questions (you have to bug them to get through). In our last volleyball season, we had 2 no shows for refs and had to self ref the game. Of the times that the refs did show up, one was definitely high. The other didn't pay attention to the score and kept saying the wrong score. Honestly, there is no value to this organization other than getting strangers together to play. I would recommend you all NOT join this league and reserve a court through Piedmont (I think it's like $5 an hour to reserve a court) and get together your friends instead. Or, if anyone is interested in starting a competitor company, I bet we could easily get these guys out of business. read more

If there was a -5 star, I'd pick that. If you like miscommunication, rule-breakers, and disorganization then choose Atlanta Sports and Social. Every week was an inconvenience. We even made it to the semi-finals and had 7 players show up because of how fed up we were. We'll be doing Go Kickball next time. read more

In my experience, AssClub is a social group where occasionally a sport is the focus of the group. However, it is not a traditional sports club. It is a for profit system and is not intended to foster any sort of proper mechanics or even really follow the traditional rules of the sport being played. I think AssClub is a great venue for those who have just left university and are longing for greek week. I feel it is a good match for those who are more interested in social outlets and not really a competitive sporting situation. Austin H. said it well "I see it is all social and no sport. / Playing in this league is dangerous, teaches bad mechanics and doesn't follow any rules." I'd take it one step further and say that the sports they are playing are not official versions of the sport and the officials do not understand the official rules of the game. This creates an environment of poor quality play and it can be potentially dangerous for those playing any kind of contact sporting... But it is a good social outlet and it seems to be organized more like a novice meat market and social gathering venue. It is just too bad that the AssClub doesn't seem to have any focus on sporting even though it is the first S in their acronym. read more

I have been playing different sports with ASSC for over 2 years. The amount of different sports that they offer is second to none in the Atlanta area. I have played with other groups and they seem to be falling behind ASSC as they seem to be focused on the same locations and sports. I also like the fact that ASSC offers sports other then your typical flag football, basketball, and soccer. They have sports like inner tube water polo, ultimate, and bubble soccer. I also really enjoy the fact that I can sign up for any league and get placed on a team. Other leagues I've played with in the past, I've had to sign up and then wait to see if I was going to be placed on a team. ASSC guarantee's me that if I want to play they will find me a team. I also like the fact that team shirts, officials costs and equipment are included in my fee's. It's nice not to have to go out and spend extra money on a team shirt as well as not having to worry about weekly officials fee's and other things. I have also been to a couple of their social events as well. The wine event they did at Opera last year was fun with a wide assortment of wines (20 if I recall) as well as the live band and special VIP area. I also attended there independence Day event Red, White and booze. The event was great. We were on the 12th floor of the Hilton garden Inn downtown and the facility had both an indoor and outdoor area over looking Centennial Olympic park. During the fire works display we were right at eye level with the fireworks. It was a great time and i can't wait to go back again this year. But the thing I love the most about ASSC is that all of the leagues i have played in are fun and social and i have meet many new friends through the leagues. If your new to Atlanta and want to get active by playing sports, have fun doing it and meet new people, ASSC is the best thing going. read more

This will be my second year playing co-rec soccer with ASSC. Besides the awesome collection of t-shirts, I've also accumulated an awesome collection of new friends. I had just moved to Atlanta and this was the perfect way to continue playing soccer as well as getting to know new people in the area with a similar passion. The level of competition is perfect. We started in the rec league and moved up to the competitive league after a couple seasons, which is filled with plenty of skilled players. I'd suggest ASSC to anyone looking to get back to the good ol days of playing soccer! On a side note, bubble soccer (which they run every now and then) is AWESOME and worth joining the league alone! read more

My rating is based on my experience with the Thursday flag football league at the Mercer Atlanta fields. I write this having played five years of college intramural flag football on serious, organized teams. The people running this league are more incompetent than I could have possibly imagined. We were informed two days before our first game that the league was delayed two weeks because not enough teams were signed up. Not the worst thing ever, but it forced us to play double headers the first few weeks of the season...(keep reading) At the start time of our first game (6:30 PM) there were no refs, no league officials, no cones set up, no nothing. It's as if the league didn't exist. About 20 minutes after the game was supposed to start, some refs and a league official finally rolled up and set up the field. First, the refs argued with each other about the coin flip rules. Second, one ref realized mid-game that the field had been set up wrong and started adjusting the width mid-game (which led to confusion during plays about which cones were marking the correct width). Third, either contact and stiff arming are allowed in this league or these refs are literally blind (honestly might be the latter) because I was absolutely dumbfounded by what people could get away with. Fourth, remember that they were trying to fit a double header in on that night. The game didn't start until 7:00 PM (due to late refs), this field has no lights, and sunset was going to be at approximately 8:15 PM. Thus, they essentially eliminated all clock stoppages and halftime in order to squeeze both games in that night (and the second game still finished when it was very dark and tough to see the ball in the air). The next week I showed up and the game going on before ours was being played on a field that was 30 yards wide. The league official didn't believe me that the width was wrong until I pulled up the league rules on their own website and showed him that it's supposed to be 40 yards. At least they had the decency to fix it before our game started. Also, in our game that evening after I got decked in the head while trying to catch a pass, and the ref told me I shouldn't be complaining because it's not tackle and we don't have helmets (yes, you read that correctly, that was his logic). In summary, this flag football league is a disaster in every possible way. I might give some other sports a try, but I will never ever pay a single penny to this organization for flag football ever again. read more

I have played a few seasons of ultimate frisbee with Atlanta Sport and Social Club and have really enjoyed it. I have tried other rec leagues in Atlanta and ASSC is by far my favorite. The availability of sports and various locations that they play all over the city make it easy for anyone to join. I have never had an issue with their organization or the way they run things. I feel like ASSC offers a good alternative to some of the other rec leagues in Atlanta that are hyper competitive. Atlanta Sport and Social Club really emphasizes the social aspect of their sports. Everyone is encouraged to go to the league bars after the games which usually have pretty good discounts for the players. I have met several friends through ASSC leagues that I see regularly outside of our weekly game. I also attended their Uncorked event last year on Valentine's Day which was at the Opera and had a great time - already looking forward to doing that again this year. I haven't done any of their other social events but know they do beer pong tournaments and special events on holidays like July Fourth. Plus I always see them at beer festivals and once you become a player in one of their leagues you are treated like a friend of the company. Would highly recommend Atlanta Sport and Social Club to anyone in Atlanta looking to meet people or try a new sport. read more

If I could give this league zero stars, I would. First, let's start with the field conditions. We've played at Piedmont Park. There are so many holes on the field that if there is any standing water, the batter box and area in front of the pitcher mound turns into a dangerous, watery hole. Despite letting the league know about these dangers, they've done nothing to address this and continue putting the players in danger. Secondly, let's talk about to manage teams. An entire team did not show up for the majority of their games, which grossly affected end of season standings. Instead of applying a fair tiebreaker using averages across games played, they pick and choose their metrics that are most important to them at that given point in time. Per their webpage, the primary tie breaker is points scored. Our team had more points scored than the secondary team. They have a secondary tiebreaker of points scored differential. They then have a fallback tiebreaker of "standings points." If you actually use these rules as applied, our team should have been ranked second, and would have received a bye in the first round of the playoffs. Both the primary and secondary rules are meaningless when teams don't play the same number of games. Yet, their league managers seem unable to comprehend averages (not shocking, considering this entire operation only seems to be looking for ways to money grub and play on shoddy fields). Oh, and they randomly decide to change the standings on a Wednesday afternoon after people have already been making weekend plans? Poor operation, ASSC. Poor indeed. There are so many other places to play in Atlanta that are more fun, better run, and cost less. Don't waste your time with these fools. read more

If you sign a team up for softball, BE WARNED! ASSC states they have a field and day that you will play at, but they might not have the field rights when you sign up. My team and I have been playing at a field on Wednesday nights for over 24 seasons, and when we signed up for ASSC thinking we signed up for our normal field and night, we were told a week before the season starts that we had to choose another field or night to play. ASSC blamed this on the city for not giving them field rights, but they never had field rights from the beginning. Worse, they knew they didn't have the field rights 2 MONTHS prior to the season beginning, and decided to tell us a week before the season began. Now we are forced to play either at some field almost outside the city or choose a night that doesn't work for most of my players. They pulled a bait and switch on my team and would highly recommend looking at other leagues before signing up for this one. read more

I have been playing with Atlanta Sport and Social Club for over a year. I have played softball, flag football, soccer, and bowling. Each one has been an absolute blast. This is the worse run league I have ever been a part of. It seems like they just picked people off the street to be the referees at the games with no training at all. The league is quite pricey for what it offers in both experience (for the individually) and from an organizational standpoint. Atlanta Sport and Social Club has been absolutely terrible at scheduling games, getting to the field at the right time as to not delay any of the already late games, and as well as bringing the proper equipment. The referees have a hard time making any calls as they say they can only concentrate on one thing at a time, while the league has not decided to provide more refs for these games (even after several emails from different participants in the league). I've played in college intramural leagues (of the same sports) and the difference is astounding as well as the price point (granted subsidization). But it would be comparing Apple to a lemonade stand in organization structure and what the leagues have to offer. I would never recommend Atlanta Sport and Social Club to anybody and believe that anyone else could set up a better league if they wanted to. This league is unwilling to hear out the complaints of their customers and unwilling to improve. This is a sinking ship and I don't see this league lasting in the future as I can surely see their customer base evaporating in the future. read more
