me and my friends were simply shopping and we found a phone on a shelf. We thought someone must have lost it so picked it up and bring it to the front desk. We told the front desk lady that someone must've lost their phone and she proceeded to tell us not to pick up other people's things and then it was one of the staffs we said we were sorry and put it back. This was when we started getting weirded out by their service. She then started yelling at her employee to " watch what we're doing watch what we're buying watch what we're stealing". I have shopped here for the last 5 years and have spent thousands of dollars here. I bought two shirts today and walked home to find one with a hole. My husband walked it back to the store and the owner said "what did you stick your finger through it?" We literally took it out of the bag and I went to wear it as pjs and noticed the hole. First of all if your clothes are so cheap that if I stick my finger through it, a hole occurs I guess it makes sense why you have the 50 percent off sale then $10 sale. You were incredibly rude and all we wanted was an exchange. This is not the first time you were rude either. You have lost yet another customer and we already know you do not care. I was walking around the store with my friends when I picked up a squishy that was on display with the rapper already half off. I did not touch the rapper just squished it a few times and then she came over to me and ripped it out of my hand and told me to put it down because i was breaking the packaging even though it was already broken. She then continued to stand around my friends and I lurking so weirdly. Looking at my friends pockets as if she wanted to steal a cheep squishy from her store. My friend also took a sip of her water and was told to get out in a rude way as if she was going to take her water and dump it all over the floor. Just walked out of this establishment (that we had supported for over a decade) after my wife tried to return a matching sweatsuit set that was purchased this summer but only just worn recently as "who wears a sweatsuit in the summer"? This item was defective and unwearable after the first wash. Unfortunately we were helped by an individual (possibly the owner) who at best was rude and could not have cared less. Wondering if the item is actually real or a knock-off. Will be reaching out to the manufacturer to discuss and will take necessary steps if confirmed as such. Accidentally walked in the store in a good mood from a really bad week. Just had a fire at my house.. Had a closed plastic Poland spring water bottle in my hand and I got halfway through the store and one of the ladies could not have been nastier. I said I'm so sorry I'll finish it she said No! The rudeness, the loudness, the insults, the acting like we rule the world and you are just a peon coming in here being permitted to shop if you don't leave a mess. I've tried to overlook this for about 30 years but, it came to head this year and I amongst others are no longer shopping there, especially with their new nasty vicious manager. I love supporting all the stores in Margate and I am friendly with many of the owners and workers. I attempted politeness, which meant nothing. I even wrote very kindly to say I prefer kindness and they attempt to say they do too. There was no response to my letter, reminding them of what happened. Today I witnessed a horrifying sight. 4 teenagers walked into the store while i was shopping and looking at sweatshirts. They couldn't walk forward because there was another family trying on clothes in front of them. The owner Roz decided to stop the 4 teenagers and rudely share that they can't socialize and that if they want to be there they can only shop. They had items in their hands and were only talking at a low volume like the rest of the few costumers in there. Very rude service and I walked out right after in disappointment. We are fortunate enough to own a house a couple of blocks away from this store, and have frequented it for many years. Just today I went with my mom to check out their sale. I found a cute little $5 bracelet for my son which I picked up before continuing into the second room. I said "'scuse me!" as I squeezed past an employee in an aisle (heavy set middle aged blonde woman with frizzy hair in a low ponytail - only providing the description so anyone who works there can know who I am talking about) but instead of letting me past she stops me and says abruptly "No. Go put your drink and jewelry on the counter I don't want you walking around with it." Now, lots of stores have no food or drink policies, which is fine, but never have I seen a sign saying so at Jamaican Me Crazy not have I ever been told this before. The implication that I was trying to steal a $5 bracelet (worth noting I am a mid-30s attorney and don't exactly present as some kid who may be trying to rip her off) is what really set me off, along with her delivery. The level of condescending is something I haven't experienced since the narcissist I dated in my 20s - ha. Anyway. I replied "you know what? never mind." put the jewelry on the counter as she asked, and walked out. Only giving it two stars because of the previous incident free years. That woman needs a new job. Every time I visit this store, it becomes more clear why it has its name. Within 15 seconds, you'll be swarmed by a salesperson, likely before you've even had a chance to look at anything. And after you shoo the first person away, another comes to take her spot and watch you make your way around the store. It is BEYOND irritating. Even if the salespeople don't speak, they follow you around and watch your every move so that as soon as you pick something up, they can offer to hold it at the register. I read past reviews which were very interesting. I admit when I visited I was on my guard to see if i witnessed any of the same treatment. I was there on a busy weeknight about an hour before closing. The owner actually went out of her way to try to find my size, hunting through out her shelves. Most rows and piles on shelves were in order, many by size and labeling; Ventnor, Margate, Longport. I had only a good experience. One of the items I bought did not fit well & 5 days later, I went to exchange it. They did not have my size after one saleswoman searched the entire store for the size needed. 15 minutes later she went in to the back and came out with 2 last shirts in my size! Omg! The WORST customer service EVER! First of all let me start with I love shopping local I've shopped in the store several times and never ever had a bad experience. I stopped in today to purchase an Philadelphia Eagles T-shirt. When I got up to the register to pay, I asked the lady that waited on me. I said do you take Apple Pay? She responded with yes now keep in mind a new law went into affect in New Jersey back in August that is supposed to notify the customer of the 3% surcharge on Apple Pay ,credit cards ,debit cards etc. etc. unless you're paying cash you're going to get that 3% charge on any plastic used for that transaction. I realized once I left the store I looked at the receipt it said $21.17 so when I got home I checked all my phone and I checked my bank and I was charged $22.42 . I called the store to get some clarity on this and she's like oh that's the 3% surcharge. I'm like well I didn't know about it she said there's a sign at the register OK well I didn't see it the first time I've been in the store in quite a while so That being said, the girl on the phone was incredibly rude was talking over me was arguing with me telling me she wasn't being rude. She wouldn't let me speak. Love this store! Always fun to stop by the in the summer and see what they have in stock and if I'm ever in town during the fall or winter, I try to swing by for their crazy sales. The employees are always helpful and walking in there on a summer afternoon has a fun, party atmosphere. I never leave empty handed and my nieces and nephews are always when they get their new Margate sweatshirts every year! The owner is well...different. She's a bit of a local legend. Definitely comes across as a bit crazy, but I guess that's where they get the name. She helped me out for over 30 minutes picking out gifts for my family one time while the store was packed. And if you catch her at the right time, she'll always have some cool stories or insight to share about the community. Definitely not for the sensitive types though! Adding another review that was the mess of shopping here last weekend. We were screamed at the moment we got in the store until the second we left by the owner. They needed to close the store for an hour to restock and have lunch. Have they heard of taking breaks? Having people restock during store hours? She screamed at every customer. She was screaming at her own staff. Every customer was in shock. This store had a long line with customers willing to deal with her horrible behavior and still buy. The piece tag was conveniently hidden but other similar chairs were half the price, so of course I thought the chair I was prepared to buy was about the same. I have been shopping at Jamaican Me Crazy for over 20 years. This morning at 9:15 AM, I tried to exchange two items I had purchased earlier in the summer. When I purchased these items for my daughter I specifically asked if they could be exchanged and was told yes if within the month. Before I was ever rudely welcomed the owner of the store had an issue with the woman Susan behind the counter about some tubs of items that were really "bugging" her and honestly couldn't have been much rougher with her tone. Well, the tone came right to me at this early morning hour. I told the owner I didn't need to be spoken to in this manner and our conversation just escalated where I walked out of the store. I returned with my other daughter to see if we could find something else to replace the items I bought. When I entered I happen to have a cup with coffee me. And, I was asked to leave the coffee at the front. I said I'd leave it outside and returned into the store. This time, the owner said she needed to speak with me and I said there really wasn't much to speak about other than her tone in which she had spoken with me 20 minutes earlier. Naturally, she pointed the issue back at me which only escalated my tension and I rose my voice so EVERYONE In the store could here what was happening. If you are happy doing business with rude proprietors help yourself. If you like to be spoken to with kindness walk away from this place. #kindness matters. read more

The store owner and her staff are the definition of unprofessional. I am surprised that they have not been reported to the BBB. It's beyond me. She decided to have a sale @ 50% off. Typically when you do this you need to expect large amounts of traffic. Most business owners want these kind of traffic. My friend and I grabbed some things to try on and they wouldn't let us in because they needed to "close the store to restock" mid day, never heard of that in my life. They started to scream at us if we wanted to purchase or not. I explained I need to try things on before I purchase. Finally after going back and fourth the 15 year old let us into the store to try on. As we walk in, the owner starts screaming at her as to why she let us in... We try the clothes on and wait on line to pay. As we are waiting the crazy owner is going on and on about how we should feel bad for her and her staff because they didn't eat lunch. And that she does not need the money and that she donates these clothes anyway at the end of the year to the homeless. It was horrifying to watch. Every single person on line was horrified. She should sell this business to someone that would be happier and treat customers with respect. Especially since this piece of work doesn't "need the money". WORST shopping experience I've had in a LONG time! The owner is absolutely miserable; almost looking/waiting to start a fight with purchasing customers! I grew up in margate and have been coming to this store for years. I was so excited when I saw their 50% off sale and love to support my community and local business. As I walked around grabbing clothes I wanted to try on I was followed by who I assume to be the owner or manager. She was constantly behind me seeing what I was doing and was extremely rude to not only me but other customers. She acted as if I and my mother were going to steal or were doing something bad. The service in this store is far from good. The girls working the floor are very pushy, following costumers around making them feel uncomfortable. When I shop I would like some space not a young girl behind me trying to take my items from me before I can decide on a purchase. You feel very rushed in the store and are not given time to make your purchases as you please. Even at the counter the woman has an attitude. ********RUDE ROZ"***HOW TO LOSE $500******** Before you read the review below keep these two things in mind... 1) on the outside of the store there was a huge sign that said EVERYTHING in the store 50% off 2) we spent over $100 at this store earlier that morning before we came back in the evening. We have also visited the store multiple times during each summer Now for the review. After eating dinner, my 12 year old son went into Jamaican-Me-Crazy, alone, with his allowance money. Immediately some noise makers, "snaps" caught his eye. They were originally priced st $.50 each and stacked by the register. He brought eight "packs" to the the cashier and she looked at him and said in a disgruntled tone, $4. My son gave a puzzled look and said "but they are half off, which is $2. The cashier leaned close to him, and said "hey, do you want them or not? I have to go outside and bring in my clothes rack". My son still bought them and came running outside saying, upset, he felt ripped off. My wife decided to go back to the store and to talk to the owner. We went inside, calmly explained what happened to an employee. She then went into the back of the store to speak to the owner, "Rude Roz", of the store (who just so happened to be the cashier that was rude to my son). "Rude Roz" never came up to the front of the store to talk to us. Instead, she sent the employee back. She said, I'm sorry but everything is 50% off the store except these $.50 "Snaps". Really? Yes, as of today they are no longer on sale. Startled at the bold lie, my wife said are you you sure? And the employee said "yes, as of today this item is no longer part of the "entire store 50% sale". Ok, we left the store and didn't look back. I never would spend so much time over $2, or leave such a detailed negative review about a local business that I liked supporting, but ripping off a kid will now cost "Jamaican Me Crazy" $500 per year, which is what I typically paid over the course of the summer purchasing their shirts, shorts, beach towels, hats and "snaps". I won't go back to this store EVER and I'm proud of my son who was brave enough to go back into the store to confront the bully owner. I doubt this owner, "Rude Roz" reads Yelp or realizes the importance of social media. But perhaps this will teach her the same lesson my four kids learned at a young age. I've been frequenting this store for 20 years. Still has fun merchandise on the lower end of the price scale. But, the store is crowded with hundreds of items to the point where you can barely walk. There are more people working there than customers. The owner, Roz is strangely nasty to customers and staff alike. Fun store with a not fun owner. Very odd. She actually used to be friendly and nice and she was a highlight of the experience. Now it's the opposite. The last time I was there, and it will be the last time, which was today, "I greeted her by name and she (or her evil twin) said, angrily, in front of my wife and daughters,"Who the hell are you?" Now as a business owner, why would you do that, when the customer who just addressed you obviously has been in the place before. If you have any diplomacy, you just say, "I forgot your name, nice to see you." The other people that work there are so annoying, as they keep hovering over you like you're going to steal something and incessantly asking you questions every five seconds, like "Would you like me to take that to the register?" or "Did you find our sale rack in the back?"
