I've been to YMCAs across the U.S. and Canada and this is tied with only one for as my favorite YMCA! Besides the location and staff, the best part about it for me is the dry sauna and the stationary bicycles facing the windows. I'm also super stoked that it became 24 hours starting this month/April...at least the main workout area is. The only cons I've experienced so far are: 1. The showers were only cold water at the time I tried them - but, in all fairness, it was end of a Sunday and lots of kids there. 2. There is only one Hip Abduction & Adduction Machine/Dual Inner/Outer Thigh Machine and someone is always using it. Despite being at the gym for hours, I've never seen it open so I have to use my thigh bands at home. There really needs to be two of them. Many of the machines around it go unused so they could easily be swapped out for a 2nd Dual thigh machine. Otherwise, this place is great and I feel safe when I'm there. Since it is such a nice YMCA, I can see why it gets so busy at certain times. I adjust my workout time when I can to avoid the crowds, but I understand that not everyone can do that. read more

Well, we aren't members of the YMCA, we did do the kids swim lessons there for about two months. I really appreciated. The fact of I had swim lessons for kids. I work with them individually well also in a group to be able to get them to swim safely. The changing rooms were very nice and quite clean and private, which was really great as well. Everyone was super nice and super welcoming and we really had a great time taking some lessons there. I would join the YMCA if I didn't already belong to another gym though, because it looks like it has a heck of a lot of stuff. Even a climbing wall! And lots of classes and activities too! This location has made some positive changes in the last 9 years. We were members when we were stationed here then as well. It can definitely get tight in there as the space is limited and the area they are located in has a big population. They have many classes there like karate. You do not need to be a member there to participate in those classes which is great. Pricing is reasonable. $84 a month $100 joining fee which is waved at this time... for a military family of four. They have many activity areas to workout in, childcare, a pool, locker rooms (under renovation), teen center, weight room and so much more. They also offer many workout classes. Taking my son for swimming lessons. It was a really great experience. The instructors really care about the kids and are very patient. The indoor pool is large and clean. We are considering a gym membership, they have a lot of great classes- and even child services for a parents night out. Definitely recommend! read more

I've been a member of this YMCA for about a month now and use it four days a week before work. The main reason I got a membership was for use of the pool to swim laps. I figured that getting there between 5:30 and 6:00 right when they open would be a good time to get a lane in the pool. Rarely am I able to get a dedicated lane, but I'm usually able to get a shared lane right away. Only once so far have I not been able to swim at all because the lanes were too congested. In fairness, that was on a Friday morning when I'd expect a lot of people to be at the gym. The other facilities are nice. Nothing special. My two boys are signed up for gymnastics classes starting at the end of the month so I'll amend my review once those are over. read more

A gym without working, reliable wireless is like a Charlie Chaplin silent movie! I've been to *everyone* at this facility, but they keep making excuses, shrugging their shoulders, and pointing to someone else. *So* frustrating when you're walking over to the bench and the tunes cut out. Wireless is table stakes for modern businesses like this. The customers expect it. The customers pay handsomely for a great workout environment! This has been broken for (at least) the past quarter of a year! When I mentioned this on their Facebook page, they turned off customer comments altogether! I used to be a member 2 years ago. Recently became a member again. The cardio selection is large. Lots of ellipticals, 2 rowing machines, several bikes, treadmills... I mean it's very cardio heavy. The weight lifting section was okay enough. I lift at home so I don't really care about that too much at the YMCA. There are lots of water classes and group fitness classes. I'm pretty stoked to try the arthritis class in the pool. I haven't used the childcare but I do know it fills very fast. The parking lot is on the smaller side. However you can park across the street at the library. All gyms on the peninsula are busy af. Just find one you like and give it a try. Or Maybe try to not go during peak times. read more

The facility is great! New and clean. I give the Y 3 stars based on the gym aspect alone. I joined for the lap pool and the weights. The pool is a 25 yard pool (that's a plus) and has multiple lanes (plus). The downside is that is is disgusting on the bottom and on the walls. It made me scare to swim in it at first but I made myself get over it. Next, most people are there to just float up and down the pool. So if that is your thing then this place is for you. I swam in college therefore, I like to work out when I lap swim w/ a swim set. There is 1 pace clock that is hard to see from some angles. And I almost collided with a person trying to walk past my lane to get to the stairs which did not make me happy. All in all, it's 25 yards and tegu have plenty of hrs for lap swim so not a total lost. The gym: I was not too happy when my daughter and I went to a studio, that was vacant and open, to work out with her and teach her some work outs. The staff kicked us out and told us there is only one work out area she was allowed in. I didn't understand the big deal 1) I was with her the whole time 2) the room was open and unused 3) we were not using any equipment just the big mirror. Most gyms I have been too allow people to use rooms that are unlocked and open. She was not to happy and had not wanted to return with me (she is 11 and sensitive hence why she liked being in the studio alone). It is a great place if you want a community. Not a great place if you want a real work out. read more

Very nice place to go get some exercise, good childcare, and friendly staff. It can get crowded at times but in comparison to other Y's it is very nice. They have a very sweet piano teacher who is wonderful with kids. read more

I was there in March. Compared to the 24 hour fitness I go to in California you folks are 100% wonderful. Hands down a great place operated by wonderful people. This gym is clean and well equipped. This place is great! I've been going here for over a year and am very happy with the services they offer. I mostly go for cardio and weight training but they offer many different classes to help you stay busy and fit. The equipment is in great condition and the staff is really helpful. If you like out-dated fitness centers, an overpowering stench of chlorine and overcrowding akin to Woodstock....this is the place for you! First of all, good luck finding a parking space. Once you do get in, there is a very limited free weight selection and classes instructed by those less qualified than my teenage son. They do have plenty of elliptical trainers though! We were willing to overlook a lot of the negatives just because of its proximity to our home. But, and here's the best part, if you have any issue requiring extra help or decision making, the staff is both clueless and powerless to help. My family has had memberships to other YMCAs in the past that weren't this way. Their hallmarks have always been caring, respect and service. Not here. I guess they feel they have so many members stuffing the parking lot, those traits just doesn't matter. Don't feel like you have to go here just because they offer occasional (yet unreliable) childcare. Nowadays, almost every fitness center (to include austere crossfit boxes) provide more dependable child care options. Check my bona fides, I don't give any bad reviews unless totally justified. Seriously, deserves no more than 1 star. Those that rated it higher must be senior citizens who just like it for the nude social hour in the locker rooms. read more

The child care is not great as far as summer camps go. I have picked up my daughter on more than one occasion and no one even noticed! I told an employee who was in charge of my daughters camp about it and she told me they have a lot of kids to keep track of so its not easy to keep track of who is coming and going... The camps have been going down hill over time any way so we wont be returning. read more

Been a member here for about a year now and it has its share of pluses and minuses. First the good: There is a very friendly staff here. My son really enjoys the swim lessons and looks forward to them each week. Lessons are very reasonable with a membership. My SO and I have been frequenting the classes and they run fairly well but the number of classes is much greater to the non working day crowd. The weight room is adequate but far from what I would call a gym. You can get a great workout in but you may be waiting for a specific machine/bench etc. Now the downsides: The locker rooms are just downright creepy. There are 5 locker rooms; mens, womens, boys, girls, and family. Because I take my son to swim lessons, I have him change in the boys room. However I have seen a number of grown men changing in there as well which just creeps me out. If its just me I try to get in and out of the mens area ASAP. Not sure why some grown men need to read the newspaper naked in a locker room. The pricing is downright high. The YMCA doesnt turn anyone away so if you make a decent wage you're subsidizing someone else. This gets frustrating because all you're doing is increasing the number of people in the facility. Last, this place is geared toward the retiree/stay at home mom. If you're looking for a place to be before 5pm theres a lot going on but if you have a FT job and are looking for something after work you may find one class you're interested in per night, if you're lucky. And weekends....they close at 6pm on Saturday and open at 1PM on Sunday (ridiculous). If you want a real GYM go to onelife. If you want a slightly overpriced 'community center' the Y will work. read more

I've been a member of YMCA's all over the Nation in the last 15 years, a member of this particular one for about a year now. I must say that this is the cleanest, most efficient, friendly YMCA I have ever had the pleasure of being a member of. The employees as well as the volunteers take the morals and ethics it's known for and live up to them. When there was an ethical issue with one employee the staff was quick to remedy the situation and made it clear that behavior would not be tolerated. The childcare is one of the biggest selling points for me, without it I would be unable to take that time to workout. Their childcare facility is exceptional! My children look forward to going there and have a large variety of educational and stimulating activities prepared for them daily by the staff. It is closer to a preschool setting than it is daycare, they read, do crafts, have themes, and a large variety of sensory activities/objects. We're always greeted with a smile and I can have peace of mind knowing that my children are being stimulated and lovingly taken care of. I would strongly recommend this facility to all of my friends and family! read more

First, they're over-priced. They charge you by how much you make (a high school kid will review your pay stub... yes, I'm serious). If you make good money, they'll charge you much more to cover the unemployed people that become members and pay a fraction of the price. They don't have much better weight lifting equipment than Planet Fitness (PF has no pool, however), but they're still more expensive. One Life runs circles around the YMCA's equipment. The basketball courts are rarely open for basketball. During peak hours (after 5PM on weekdays) they'll use up both courts (6 hoops unavailable) so 7 or 8 people can play badminton. Very strange. Their hours are horribly inconvenient. THEY CLOSE AT 5:00 PM ON SATURDAYS. You read that correctly. They're open from 1PM to 6PM ON SUNDAYS. Absurd hours for people that need availability to workout on weekends. If you have a guest, they put them through a gauntlet of ridiculous protocols: $10 charge, all personal information, wavier forms, PICTURE TAKEN (enough info to make a passport and open a credit card with). This process took almost 20 minuets. DON'T BRING A GUEST! The hours are the worst part-overall. They close at 10PM on weekdays. Bottom-line: They are more of a family day care/community center/children summer camp organization than a gym for adults. Go to One Life or Planet Fitness. read more
