Beautiful location that everyone flocks to on a weekend, which creates a nice atmosphere. Scone was top notch. Everyone in my party loved their bakery goods. Disappointingly, the coffee was very watered down. It's been a long time since I've had coffee this bad even at a gas station or hotel breakfast. My mates agreed and they had a different roast as well. Best to order the dark roast to try to make up for coffee incompetence or neglect; though perhaps this was just an off morning. read more

It seems to be a bakery and not a fish market. There's a walk up window to order, and a chalkboard with the daily menu. 3 sizes of coffee are available, hot choc, tea and other beverages. They have a couple donuts, turnovers, cookies and a breakfast sandwich available. The biscuit and the turnover are very good.! Maybe even perfect. I'd been wanting to try thimbleberry. I tried the BEST coffee cake I've ever eaten here in this shop. I think it's because they use salted butter on the crumble part of the coffee cake. Anyway, it was absolutely delicious. Their coffee was also great. My inlaws got a donut and I thought that one was pretty decent. There are a few picnic benches near the shop that sits along Lake Superior. This is a small walk-up counter with coffee, hot chocolate, tea, soft drinks, donuts and other bakery items. It is open seasonally (when there is no snow). You need to try the donuts with thimbleberry icing. We tried the chocolate and raised donuts. Both were very good, though you will need water because they are quite sweet. The shop is located right on the water, so you can enjoy your food and/or drinks while looking at Lake Superior. There is limited seating. read more

This was an amazing bakery, my wife had the Finnish Pancake, muffins, cookies and scones (we were in Copper Harbor for a number of days and in the hotel next to the bakery). Only bake goods were available, no smoked fish was available. We were there starting the Tuesday after Labor Day during COVID. There was a line each morning and all of the customers and staff wore masks and were practicing safe distancing. Ordering took place at a "take out window". I cannot say enough about the quality of the food and how great the staff was every time we stopped in. To top it all off, it is located on the water with a brilliant view. read more

Thimbleberry donuts? Thimbleberry donuts! The first time I've ever heard of thimbleberry was in Copper Harbor. These are probably the best donuts I have ever eaten. They do run out, so make sure you are there early. The other baked goods are also really good, too. I've never got past the baked goods to the fish. Jamsen's is a seasonal business, which they close in the winter. They also have picnic tables on the docks, so you can eat your baked good and look out to Copper Harbor, which is a very beautiful view. I look forward to my next trip to Copper Harbor for more thimbleberry donuts. read more

I've been coming to the harbor and this place for years. I really want to like it, but just can't do it. I stood in line for close to a half hour. When I finally got to the front, the guy yelled out that they were taking boat customers first... I turned behind me to see that the line had grown longer than the first one I stood in. He then started serving the people behind me. Needless to say I left and won't be back. Wouldn't recommend it, unless you like standing in line for hours. If you have to go, just say you're on the boat... otherwise your business doesn't matter to these people. What a really disappointing experience. read more

This is a cool little shop on the ferry dock that serves coffee and home made pastries. They also have delicious smoked fish that you can purchase by the lb. and fresh caught lake trout that you take home and cook also by the lb. Only open from 7 to 3 it is well worth a visit when you are going over to Isle Royal or coming back. Or anytime if you are looking for a great cup of coffee and a pastry. read more

Don't Miss This Amazing Local Gem! Bakery Co-Owner Jill Protzel was smoothing the batter for a rhubarb-and-sparkleberry buckle onto a sheet pan when I arrived at Jamsen's, relieved, it must be said, that bakery smells were all the smells I smelled. Fresh local products seemed to be in everything Jamsen's sells, from the Keewenaw Coffee Works in my cup, to the local rhubarb and tiny heirloom strawberries in the buckle, which Jill personally picked with her three-year-old "helping" her at Henry Ohtonen's farm in nearby Chassel. Jamsen's cheddar-bacon-chive scones looked so good they almost swayed me from my mission to eat a thimbleberry donut, which comes in both vanilla and chocolate flavors. I chose vanilla, to better taste the wild thimbleberries, which taste a bit like raspberries with more personality and texture. I had picked some on a sunrise hike myself, and I liberally studded these extra thimbleberries into the buttercream atop my donut, and sat in one of the Adirondack chairs on the pier to watch the ferry to Isle Royale head out. I didn't get anywhere near the fish case, though it was packed with some good looking fresh and smoked fish from the adjacent Lake Superior. You literally cannot go wrong here, unless you wait a bit too late in the day to visit. They close up shop once they've sold out or at 3 pm, whichever comes first. Don't miss out! read more

We visited Jamsen's on 9/10/16. Our visit was a fluke; we were unaware of its presence, because we'd only driven to that part of the harbor to have a look at the Isle Royale ferry. Let me say that it must have been kismet. We purchased huge Oatmeal cookies, Thimbleberry jam from 'The Jam Lady', and smoked whitefish. All were excellent, especially the fish. I've eaten smoked fish from around the Great Lakes for decades, and have also smoked my own catch. Jameson's was delicate and flavorful, neither over smoked or subject to heavy brining. My wife and I devoured it in record time around our campfire that evening. And the cookies barely survived the Copper Harbor city limits! We'll certainly visit again when in the area! read more

Visited July 22-24th of this year, some of the best muffins I've had in a long time (Also a good breakfast place to visit if you couldn't get a table at the other place).
