The Jampot was on my UP bucket list of places to visit and that came true today!…read more The Jampot is a bakery run by a community of Byzantine Catholic monks, known as the Society of Saint John. They are famous for their homemade jams, jellies, baked goods, and fruitcakes, which are sold under the name "Poorrock Abbey". The Jampot started in 1986 as a way for the monks to support their monastery, Holy Transfiguration Skete. Fun fact... the individuals that started the monastery had a black Great Dane. After a short wait, we were able to purchase a handful of goodies. Thimbleberry jelly is out of stock until late July but lots of other options were available. For jellies, I picked up a jar of rosehips jelly and sugarless wild blueberry jelly. For snacks, we purchased a carrot cake muffin, chocolate chip muffin, cinnamon sourdough bread, and a cream cheese muffin which was warm out of the oven. We purchased a couple of drinks too - cold pressed blueberry juice and cold brew illy coffee. The cream cheese muffin was my favorite! It was a combination of pound cake and cream cheese with hints of pineapple. How can you go wrong? Plus it was warm! The best! I really enjoyed the carrot cake too. It was full of nuts, raisins, and carrots. Very hearty, just the way I like carrot cake. There is parking, picnic tables, and a dog run on site. No bathrooms. Closed restrooms are 1.6 miles away. The monks were so friendly! Great place to stop in you're in the Cooper Harbor area. Just check the hours to make sure they are open.

This review is for the deli-sandwich portion…read more One of the best sandwiches I've had in years. I live in Chicago area and simply cannot get a good sandwich. Either the bread, the condiments, the temperature (what's with heating the sandwiches) something is always wrong. Originally I am from northern New Jersey so I am used to NYC style delis, which consistently speaking, are the best in the country. That's how sandwiches should be. Anyway, ole girl and I were doing a road trip, this place had good reviews. The sandwich was absolutely delicious and made with LOVE! I would absolutely go back, and absolutely highest recco! We are approaching a thousand!

I certainly did not expect to find morels or lion's mane mushrooms! I got two sandwiches and a pickle from the deli. The pickle had a good snap and wasn't overly salted or spiced. It was refreshing on the trail. The sandwiches I picked out were the Gratiot River and the Brockway Mountain. I liked the Gratiot River more as the avocado gave the sandwich good moisture, while the Brockway Mountain was rather dry. They were well packaged for portability. The bulk foods section is extensive, and they have a good variety of snacks and frozen food that punches above its weight given the smaller size of the store. If you're in town, definitely stop by to pick up something new!
