I have been a patient of Dr. Curtis for the majority of my adult life. I'm 57 and I love her honesty and straightforwardness. She listens and then gives you the reality of the situation. I think that there are people who have a hard time with the truth, but sometimes if you keep going to someone with the same issue, the only way to get through to the person is to be blunt. She's dealing with people's lives and doesn't want them to keep going down the wrong path. I appreciate her honesty. Her staff is very accommodating. read more

I am changing my score to 1 star. If it could be zero stars, I would do that. At my last appointment with her, she looked me up and down and criticized my weight gain. I told her I had actually lost weight but the nurse had inverted some of the numbers! She prescribed metformin for diabetes and polycystic ovarian syndrome, which I DO NOT HAVE. I said I wouldn't take anything without a blood test. She then proceeded to tell me how she could smell the frozen yogurt on my breath and that I needed to start taking nutrition classes and do meal replacement shakes. I asked her why I would stop the eating of real food for a clean eating diet I had been eating for over a year and had lost significant weight?!? Clearly fat shaming is the name of her game even though I tried to explain myself. Cut to a few weeks later at Kaiser with my new doctor. I did not take metformin and my A1C is well within normal range, she confirmed I DO NOT HAVE PCOS, she also took me off the blood pressure medicine because I don't have high blood pressure! Also my thyroid medication was way too strong, so she cut that. I finally feel better. No more dizzy spells, heart palpitations or fat shaming. Dr Curtis is the worst doctor I have ever seen. I was with the Doctor for over 15 years, and received excellent service and care. Due to retiring, I had to leave her as my new Plan, HealthNet, PPO, did not have her contracted. After 3 years on that Plan, I was able to return to Blue Shield of CA January 2022. So happy to be back. All her referrals, for specialists have been very good to excellent. Some of them, I have been with for over 10 years now. I highly recommend her....unfortunately with changing healthcare industry contracting...her panel for accepting new patients is closed. I like that she is willing to try things to get to the bottom of the issue . I prayed for a doctor that would do her best to take care of me and Jesus helped me find Dr. Curtis. Dr. Curtis always takes her time to listen to me and really does her best to find to prescribe the best treatment plan. I like that she doesn't try to medicate the symptoms, she's all about finding the root cause of the issue. She even helped to diagnose my aunt, who had been suffering with pain in her stomach for a year and a half. Other doctor's would only treat her symptoms, but Dr Curtis discovered that it was something way more severe. If you're looking for a primary care physician I highly recommend Dr. Curtis. I've dealt with many doctors over the years (I've been on dialysis for about 7 years), and she's one of the best! read more

This is an addition to my previous review. I love Dr. Curtis but I cannot stand her medical group: St. Joseph Heritage. I called today to reschedule an appointment and, after waiting on hold for nearly 15 minutes without reaching an operator, I chose the option just to leave a voicemail. I figured I'd just tell them I had to reschedule and hope I got a call back. I waited on hold 10 more minutes hoping just to get the voicemail! I finally hung up, disgusted. I'm sick of having to jump through St. Joseph Heritage's hoops just to leave a fucking voicemail! Time to find a new doctor. Sorry, Dr. Curtis. read more

So sad. Had to recommend a different doctor for my Mom because Dr Curtis really made a huge incompetent mistake. Mom had labs done and a wellness check with Dr. Curtis. She said Dr Curtis looked very disheveled, did not answer several questions, and was rushed out of the office. 3 months later, still not feeling well, I took Mom to my doctor. He looked at the lab tests she brought in and found that she clearly had diabetis. Dr. Curtis never said a word, nor did she start Mom on new meds. Very disappointed because she could have become very sick on the diet she was on. I would never recommend Dr Curtis, although I love the St. Joseph's network. read more

Just started seeing Dr. Curtis in Jan. of this year. My experience has been so good compared to past experience that I felt compelled to write a review which I do not do very often. Dr. Curtis is a cut above. She is good at what she does and actually cares about her patients. She has an excellent set of physicians to refer you to as well an excellent staff of nurses and administrative staff. St Josephs systems, the medical group Dr. Curtis is with are cumbersome but once you get the hang of how they operate you can live with it. I think Dr. Curtis epitomizes what a physician can be and is the physician I wish I had from the get go. read more

This doctor of internal medicine is a joke. Dr. Curtis pretends to listen to your medical problems however takes no action to resolve them. Her medical practice is run like a Starbucks. Their Santa Ana location consistently overbook patients. The medical scheduler won't disclose their poorly run office management over the telephone. After several medical appointments and urgent health concerns of mine, this physician never took the time to accurately diagnose and come up with a comprehensive treatment plan. read more

Dr. Curtis excels when it comes to providing compassionate and competent patient care. As a medical scribe, I have worked closely alongside several physicians over the years, and Dr. Curtis definitely stands out. I am continuously amazed how she actively and consistently increases her knowledge base in order to better serve her patients. Her passion is evident each time she willingly shares her experiences and up-to-date medical knowledge with her patient. I've seen and enjoyed many of her informal presentations and "teachable moments". Treating chronic illness can be difficult and it takes a certain type of character and technical skill to be a competent internist. I believe it is her knowledge, compassion, pragmaticism, and effect provider-to-provider communication that have led to a steady improvement of patient outcomes, often including ones requiring complex care. On numerous occasions, I have witnessed patients express gratitude for her competency and ability to find solutions to their medical and emotional needs when no one else had been able to. I also appreciate her willingness to work with patients who prefer a more holistic approach when treating their illnesses. Dr. Curtis has an outstanding bedside manor. She does ask about your life taking a more holistic approach to her diagnosis not only based on your symptoms but also on your overall mental and physical well being. Like any large office it depends who you get on the phone/front desk but there is definitely room for improvement... Particularly when you contact them via telephone. My daughter is in recovery from anorexia and had her first appointment with Dr. Curtis. It was her first appointment in this area outside of the doctors in her treatment center. My daughter told her about her eating disorder and also asked not to see her weight. The doctor's attitude was arrogant and proceeded to tell my daughter her weight and that she was border line over weight. My daughter is an athlete and is not over weight. I think doctors should think about the patient before they put them all in a box according to a stupid chart. We are lucky that my daughter has really worked hard to get well and change her body image. It still made her feel terrible but she knows that it is total ignorance on the part of the doctor. If you have a daughter with an eating disorder or poor body image, DO NOT TAKE HER TO DR. CURTIS!!! I hope the doctor gets the training she needs in dealing with eating disorder patients. I also encourage the doctor to sign onto an eating disorder website and see all the women and children that day every day from this illness. My daughter felt that she just didn't think it was that important. You would think that Dr. Curtis would call my daughter and apologize for the way that she treated her after I called the office and let them know what happened(but she didn't). read more
